As a life long fan of Led Zep, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and many more brilliant rock bands, I can honestly say that Karen Carpenter was utterly brilliant. Not only did she have a fantastic voice, she was no slouch on the drums either. What a sad loss.
I'm sure the members of those rocker bands (that I love, too, BTW) would agree with you 100%. Great artists appreciate other great artists, and there was never a better singer than Karen Carpenter.

Not everyone is a stick figure, which that can be beautiful too but she was just as beautiful. Its a shame people couldn't leave her alone enough and her life was tragic. It's been repeatedly said that Karen sounded like an angel. It seemed she was right there beside you - inside your head, close to your heart, soul deep. A true living comforting entity coming thru those cold speakers . Karen's voice was reeeeally low alto. Virtually every woman who sings down that low has a smokey, husky, almost manish aggressiveness in their singing. Somehow Karen was able to sing with a rich, velvety chest voice while maintaining an almost impossible lightness that made it sound like she was singing in a high register rather than low, all the while with unspeakably perfect phrasing, breath control and matchless even tone. Utterly incredible singing.
