She is absolutely beautiful and her voice, delivery, and enunciation are second to none. It’s crazy she’s only 23 years old or so in this video. What a Superstar!🌟

It's been repeatedly said that Karen sounded like an angel. Granted, she had superhuman vocal technique and ability but her voice possessed the most human quality ever put on record: warm, full and resonant. It seemed she was right there beside you - inside your head, close to your heart, soul deep. A true living comforting entity coming thru those cold speakers . She wove a deep sense of intimacy and an enduring connection that no vocalist could replicate - then or since.

Karen's voice was reeeeally low alto. Virtually every woman who sings down that low has a smokey, husky, almost manish aggressiveness in their singing. Somehow Karen was able to sing with a rich, velvety chest voice while maintaining an almost impossible lightness that made it sound like she was singing in a high register rather than low, all the while with unspeakably perfect phrasing, breath control and matchless even tone. Utterly incredible singing.

If Ms. Carpenter were still here today, I believe she would have already been a recipient of both the Kennedy Center Honors and the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her many contributions to American music and culture..
And, as great as Ms. Carpenter’s extensive musical talents were, she was also a very warm and wonderful person, who left this world much too soon.

    • @lamarravery4094

Millions of people love the Carpenters, you shouldn't have felt embarrassed. I'm sure the people that teased you, also liked them but were embarrassed to admit it too, which is stupid. Who's to say what is cool and what is lame? No one can deny the Carpenters are really talented. The Carpenters are definitely on the soft side, but I like soft music.

Yup! Can identify completely. Carpenters music moved my heart, but that was not allowed - Led Zeppin et. al. ruled the day. 45+ years later, I don't give a crap! Proudly supporting the Carpenters!

@welch shaman, they were the first concert I saw, in 1973 when I was twelve. My mom's friend's daughter took me -- she was 16. I'm sure someone paid her to do it because I could tell she really thought it was uncool, LOL. But I had a great time. When I was nine I saved up my allowance to buy the Close To You album, and it went on from there.

I'm an old man ... been here for well over 80 years. Seen many come and go, obviously .... In my opinion, by far, the two greatest losses of our time in the entertainment world ... were Karen Carpenter, and Michael Hedges. Both these individuals can never be 'replaced'. Both were many leagues higher in quality, skill, and talent that ANY others of their fields. Such losses .... so tragic .... I never hear either that I don't long for them both to be here to be able to continue to produce their magic!! Never again!!!! God bless you both!!!

I could listen to Karen and Richard Carpenter all day, everyday. The arrangements of music by him and her gorgeous velvet PERFECT voice just warm my heart and quiet my soul. Karen was also the fun and spontaneous of the two of them and that little segment with Bob Hope was fun to watch the “banter”,, albeit scripted, was still fun to see the playful side of this brother/sister duo!!!! 😊
