Man, I was 16 when I played this game in 2006 on PS2. I FELL IN LOVE! Back then we didn't know the tricks since YT and walkthroughs weren't largely available as today. I mostly used shotgun and mostly sold handgun ammos. If I knew the tricks like today, I would of finished the main game in a day, another for separate ways and mercenaries in 2. Then I could just use handcanon and Chicago Typewriter to do it all again. This game don't need Remake, it needs Definitive + extended version that will always be made available on future consoles. Real OG RE4 fans need to gather to make this plea to Capcom

The camera in this game is pretty clever, for not needing to ever be touched, by design. On the console original, the “look around” control is merely a digital up down left right “look around corner” function, at most. No point in ever touching it, once the way the game is designed gets familiar. But indeed there are one or two parts where they overlooked programming it so you can get a cinematic look at a couple things in the distance. But really, the “aiming” is the players camera control in this game. The whole level design is based on the camera being fixed behind the player, alternated with the aiming. It’s quite impressive actually.

I've been binge watching all of your reviews, they're so entertaining. I really hope you blow up someday and get the exposure you deserve. Also, I just wanted to point out that you can instantly kill all the plagas that pops out of enemy heads with a flash grenade, you didn't mention it when you went over the grenades and I didn't see you do it in any of the footage so I'm assuming you didn't know, forgive me if I'm wrong. It's a great mechanic that can make a lot of encounters so much easier. Works in the remake too if you ever get around to playing that. Anyways keep up the great work, and thank you for letting me take a trip down memory lane with all these classics.

This game was truly ahead of its time and still ahead of most modern games with environmental details. It's crazy how a nearly 20 year old game still has better physics and environmental effects than newer games. I think modern games need to focus on this rather than realistic graphics, just make a good game with a nice art style, they don't have to pour the whole budget into ray tracing or being able to see individual hairs on the characters. Of course the RE4 remake still does pretty much all of this just as well. Great video, one of the best Resident Evil videos I've seen
I'm sorry my reply is so late! I wanted to have chance to write a proper reply! And I couldn't agree more, this game puts a lot of modern releases to shame. New games have sacrificed environmental immersion for visual immersion, but games have always been about interacting, more than looking. A nice art style as you said, can carry a game a whole lot further than every blade of grass or hair haha! I am still on the fence about the remake, but I still haven't played it, so it's always nice to hear good stuff about it. Yes thank you so much about giving props to Ashley . There are some things to mention about her . Gameplay : During the Catapult section you can shoot the red barrels next to them to make it easier . When Ashley follows you and turns her head , she is hinting that someone is behind you . She points out mechanism like at the spike trap , she points out the buttons . At the island you need Ashley to crawl one time because Leon can't , they both have their pros and cons I love it ! Cutscenes : After jumping from the church , she ask "What's gonna happen to us " not just "me" showing that she is also worried about Leon . After Ashley introduces herself to Luis , she gets slightly embarrased . When they meet Luis for the second time she admitts that she already cought blood once . Immidiatly asked what Luis dropped and could have maybe prevented his death because even in cutscenes she can notice danger like those waves at the ending . Leon was already heading towards that dumb trap, so if Ashley didn't cough up blood had a panik attack and ran ahead , Leon would have gotten trapped instead . After all, he did landed on that falltrap . At the oparating table she asks Leon if he really wants to do this because after all those traps , she suspected it was gonna be another deathtrap . Let me remind you that we didn't see Leon give ashley the medicin to stop the growth of the parasite . So it was maybe still growing . And even so while getting oparated , she holds back from screaming . She doesn't wanna sound helpless anymore not some "Aah Leon I'm in so much pain help me " . There is still some things to discover like that butlers note she found . But still thank you for seeing her as a unspoken sidekick .
These are great holy smokes thank you! I missed a lot of these bits but I tell ya what - I cut out a bit about operating table (I think) for runtime but also, Leon trusts Ashley to remove the parasite as well. Again showing how their relationship has evolved into mutual respect, and demonstrating her competence. And yeah like you said, Ashley is tough and has her own pros and cons like Leon. I also love the difference between leon saying something and leon "checking" something. I always imagined that what stands when you check something, he just thinks that to himself. Which would make sense, because it is more serious but sometimes still a little playful Very good and well made video. You really see and hear the effort and time as well, that was put into this. Just finished this game for the first time a couple days ago. I really enjoyed this review. This game was a blast and i actually find the tank controls to be genius and makes it so that no other game but early RE play like this.

So I got this video recommended. Well, I certainly am glad. Lots of people already addressed obvious things, so I'm going to say my piece about Professional difficulty. First thing first, Professional difficulty, Leon is the main protagonist name. It's a reference to Leon The Professional movie. More about pro difficulty, the enemies aggressiveness is at it highest, and won't be affected by in game's dynamic difficulty feature. Ammo drops are lower. And yes, at some spot, more enemy spawn compared to lower difficulties. Lastly, in Pro, Mike is basically not helping much. Beside those I've mentioned, nothing different in other aspects of the game. Now, do I enjoy your video? Absolutely. Even as someone who knows this game basically inside out. Fun review as always. Recently replayed it, with HD Project installed and fully enabled tweaker options, and had a massive blast. With these enhancements it plays and looks fantastic, on top of great atmosphere, fun vibes (even when corny, they're still enjoyable), good music, tight pace... Great game overall.

It is kinda crazy. The character models, especially in the cutscenes, always impress me. What a journey of a video this is, throughout the whole of it i was just seeing myself as a young boy again, playing the game for hours on end on the wii, it really was good to remember how impressed i was at it through your own fresh impressions, once in a while or even more often than not tis maybe better to let oneself be carried away and amazed, playing along with the game and what is trying to convey rather than analyze and evaluate from a sort of constructed distance, anyhow, thanks for such a wonderful job and as i said, quite the journey!

2 decades later, this game is still a legend who gives us panic attacks from every corner of the chapter. Thank you for giving fair and just review of this masterpiece. Characters, story, dialogues, and designs were all enchanting teenager me back then, still does. We don't need a Remake for this, IMO, we need Definitive + Extended version. Aside of improving the graphics without changing their elements (and characters' legendary voices), perhaps extending the extras to Luis Sera, his background, history with Los illuminados and gameplay on his effort obtaining sample of main plaga. Then Ada, I'm sure she didn't handle the main plaga sample to Wesker, she probably took sub-sample and we want another extentions on the extra for this. And what about Krauser? we want to know about him from story + action-packed game on how Krauser survived NDE and joined lunatic cult. Yeah, folks, us the real fans of OG RE4 must gather our voices and ask Capcom to create this Definitive + Extended version for us and for it to be made available on future consoles so our children and descendants will be able to enjoy this legendary game. Again, man, thanks a bunch for this wholesome review! I feel you speak correctly and completely of how we all feel about our beloved OG RE4! ❤🎉

Also yeah, Luis deserved more time in the OG haha and I love your ideas for the continued exploration of these story threads. I'd just like to see Leon come back in the new games, but I fear that won't happen. Thank you again!

Really fun reviews, first time commenting (I think?) but checked out a couple before (sin episodes, dark messiah, dragon's dogma) Replaying RE4 myself for the Nth time (lost count), BTW, you said you used re4 tweaks, and it has a lot of cool stuff constantly added to it (using version 1.9 from the github, HD project comes with an older version I think), I find it making RE4 play almost like a modern 3rd person shooter with the mouse tweaks (still tank turning in a way, but much more tolerable, camera does at times still recenter, you can disable some recentering), fov tweaks let alone all the other fixes & stuff. ... Oh, and though it's not in the GUI yet (maybe beta feature, it does look "janky" in gameplay), the trainer ini file inside the re4 tweaks folder lets you assign buttons to swapping out weapons in real time! (a simple line to switch to true) Number key 1 cycles through handguns, 2 shotguns, 3 rifles (&TMP), 4 rocket & mine launcher, 5 throwables, all without ever entering your inventory.

One of my all time favorite games, so much so that I’ve bought and completed it on several consoles (Gamecube, PS2, Wii, PS3, PS4, and Switch). So I was more than ready to listen to ya talk about it for an hour and a half! Great video, very thorough, and even more entertaining! Also, I’m happy you liked RE8, I feel like Village is incredibly underrated. I hope you give RE4R a shot; I’d love to hear your analysis on it, like you did this game. (Also maybe one for RE8 too? 😅)

As much as I enjoyed the remake I see myself replaying the og more just because it was able to let its hair down & be uninhibited. Luis: You stay here with Leon he's better with the ladies It's interesting that the final scenes of Leon and Ashley on a jetski mimics that of Solid Snake and Meryl on a snowmobile in MGS.

Luis got a bigger role I think so it's got some upsides. I have no idea about MGS but the parallel is neat to know, I'll have to remember that! People seem to forget that the parasite was already making Leon and Ashley do things outside their control, thus the trap scene, altho contrived , does make sense

Where the fuck did this channel come from?? Outta nowhere UA-cam hits me with the recommendation without fucking it up! This man is funny, kept the retrospective entertaining throughout, and I'll be goddamned if he also managed to highlight some details and have some insights that I've somehow never heard despite me having watched at least 150 videos talking about this same game. Here's cynical - I have no desire to blow up because I would probably try to make serious money off my channel. UA-cam without Patreon, sponsorship deals, etc... Just would not be proftable for me unless I churned out daily videos. I could do it but they'd not have any soul or entertainment to them, and I would have turned my hobby into a joyless job. And as you said, I'd have no ability to connect with people who love these games and hopefully get a giggle out of my videos. Played RE4 for the first time a couple years ago. I played games with tank controls before but never in combination with over-the-shoulder view, my brain kinda short circuited from that setup and initially I had difficulty even with going through the doors💀 I have too much class, never discovered THE NUT SHOT x) Leon is so pretty (❀❛ ֊ ❛ )♡ But Ramon was best boy for me, smol campy childish cutiepie x) Maybe he's still fun in the remake (didn't play it yet), but I can't get over how they massacred his looks and took away his lil tricorn hat ಥ ヮ ಥ💔 I liked Ashley, not everybody can be Ada Wong and I think she manages okay for the type of character she is. I know I would be so much worse in this circumstances. Probably will refuse to leave a safety of the dumpster or something🗿 Great video, really fun watch! ˗ˏˋ ♡ ˎˊ˗
I think that is completely fair haha! I lucked out with the tank controls, I think having played another tank controls game a while back helped me out. I respect the class as well but I always check for nut shots :D And I tell you do not worry, there is zero shame in hiding in the dumpster! Once you beat the game and can put Ashley in the knights armor she is the best weapon and armor in the game. Lol put her in between you and the enemies and tell her "wait here" then back of and shoot them as they fail to damage or carry her lol

@reallylatereviews yeah nothing can hurt her. For the catapult portion just have her wait under that first bridge you go under by the stairs. One more enemy will come from behind to grab her but once you kill him she's good. Then clear out the hut and have her wait there. But yeah in the armor she is invincible. I think once you beat the game you can unlock the special wardrobes

50:06 Leon wasn't even behind the wheel. Also, you mentioned earlier the crotch shots but I'm pretty sure they do that "grab" animation when shot in the thighs, plus the women do the same animation. I'm not sure they programmed crotch shots specifically. About halfway through the video. I'm enjoying it quite a bit, I just was taken aback by the "Ada's thighs" joke, which I'm assuming was just that- a joke. EDIT: 50:56 I guess it wasn't a joke lol
Haha! Yeah it is true he isn't behind the wheel and I'm not blaming him, what I mean is he isn't able to quickly gain control over the boat and it crashes. In the remake Leon is still in the passenger seat but he instantly takes control and he doesn't smack into the rocks. I know the thigh scene is a bit on the nose but I think the tension and humour there serves to cement the fact that Leon is into her. I do overanalyse that little bit on the boat, but I just appreciate how much this says about their characters without much dialogue. There's almost nothing said. In the remake they talk the entire time. It's very different and I think I wanted to highlight that. I think you're right about the crotch shots and that's just ruined me with that knowledge haha! But as for Tobias I think that's Arrested Development? I haven't seen it I must apologise. Lastly, please let me thank you for watching my video and taking the time to comment. This game has very few downsides, but a couple: About 2 more sections switching to Ashley control for the puzzle/survival gameplay would’ve been nice. I bet they wanted to do more, and ran out of time. The 3rd section of the game (island) has some great moments with the regenerators and thermal scope, but has less atmosphere than the amazing castle and village that came before. The castle in particular is more awesome than 20 average video games put together.
I'm gonna reply to your comments all here but first let me say thank you so much for watching and commenting on my video! I appreciate it, so thank you! I really feel like they put time into the camera, and after reading what you said it's evident they thought about the level design's impact on the camera. It's why I hated the RE8 DLC, the levels were not designed for a third person perspective. I think you're right, more Ashley was probably planned and they ran out of time, or maybe money, as this happened for Dragons Dogma another Capcom game. I too missed the atmosphere in the 3rd section, it had it's moments but it wasn't as eerie. Although I can't even grumble because that fits the more action orientated segments. RE4's look is, yeah ludicrously good haha! For the time, it's just nuts the attention to detail. Lastly: Yeah I love Ashley she's a joy to run around with. Despite the segments where the game is actively trying to kill you both, she's a perfect addition, an additional concern/challenge but rarely if ever a headache. Also yeah the whole game is built around finding her rofl, very true. Thank you again!
A big issue with the island is reusing what felt like the eerie “castle theme” music. They should’ve used a new soundtrack cue, besides just the new action cue on the island. This would give the island a bit more of its own feel. Plus, great as that creepy castle music is, it’s overused by recycling for the island.
@@FreakinOutOnAudio This is actually very true and I must admit, I didn't give it much thought, probably because it was eclisped by that action theme they introduced. The use of the creepy castle music is really noticeable though, I think it's the first piece you hear on the island as well.

I've still not played the remake but watched it via a friend stream and also youtube. I think outside of the new minecart chase, I feel a lot of what you said, I really do. Leon and Ada feel much flatter from a writing perspective. There's also some fundamental gameplay choices that I think, don't take into account the third person perspective as well as the original. This isn't the greatest game ever, like some people claim, but I played this shit out of this. I don't know how many times I have beaten this. I am on a playthrough currently. I still love the original Resident Evil, as that was one of the first games I had when I got my PSone. I don't ever pre-order stuff, but I did for the remake and I was not disappointed. This was a great review.

Just finished this game. I always refused to play it as a kid because i thought it ruined the RE series by making it an action game. Amazing game, one of my new favorites but i still think its a bad RE game compared to the original 3, but an amazing experience on its own
I've since gained a bit more understanding and appreciation for the franchise, and I agree precisely with what you're saying. It's like RE7 compared to Village, as much as I enjoy Village, it's nowhere near the RE experience 7 was. But also, yeah RE4 is amazing in it's own right and it's opened me up to playing the other games in the future, even if it is wholly different. this video shows how the original was so amazing and 10/10 but to me atleast everything that made the original a 10/10 was removed in the remake which makes me dislike it but it was ok and way too realistic than what the original was, so many good things were either cut or replaced in the remake and i hate this new type of aming they are doing, it the remake its just shit and the worst idea they had done, the new leon that ate up his trauma rather than walking it off and focusing on why he was there was removed and i just see the remake leon an emo and the lines he was wasnt cheesy or funny like the original but more eh and wanted to be deaf than hear what he said but "nighty night knights" i kinda liked it

A friend recently went back to try and play it and just couldn't get into it because of the way Leon handles. Like you said there's a real tone difference between the two versions. There's elements that look good but yeah lots of changes. I get why you're saying that and I personally feel it's more action horror, which I try to allude to in the video. But I call it survival horror throughout by and large, simply because it's marketed as such, it's classed as such, it's listed that way on Steam. RE4 was over-praised in my opinion. Yeah, it was the last good game in the Resident Evil Franchise, but I didn't think the game was that great, I actually enjoyed the previous Resident Evil games more than 4. Of course, now every season Capcom has to announce a Resident Evil remake of every game, and sequels that are just getting worse and worse. I don't know why Capcom is committed to making more RE Games when they should stop. I hope RE 9 is their last game, but I have a feeling they are going for 10 so they can get a free ice cream at Baskin Robbins. Unless they make a Resident Evil game where you play as the mysterious masked Mercenary, Hunk. They should stop. I mean, Paul Anderson eventually stopped with those unbelievably bad and vomit-inducing Resident Evil movies. Watching those movies was worse than Chinese water torture. I wish Capcom would make newer original games because they can't rely on Resident Evil forever. This reminds me of way back I think in 2000, 2001, or 2002. Capcom announced they were making a gothic horror dark fantasy action game set in the Middle Ages during the height of the black plague where you play as a knight who would get to fight demons and the undead, and Capcom decided to cancel the project in the end because they must have thought it's too much like Devil May Cry or Onimusha. And I say, what were they thinking. I would have loved to play a game like that. What they were about to do was Dark Souls and Bloodborne. They could have marketed on that before From Software did, and now their refusal to go down with that idea just cost them money in the long run, because From Software got those same ideas years later and they made a lot of bank from it. Maybe some of the developers who worked on Dark Souls and Bloodborne used to work at Capcom, left the company where they decided to continue with their idea somewhere else. The only sequel that I want to see coming from Capcom is Devil May Cry because I love those games, anything else I would them to experiment more on new IPs.
I think if I could add just one line to this review, it would be recognising how vastly different RE4 was to the earlier installments. But I do stand by what I said as I don't view it as a fourth installment, I view it as it's own game just set in the same universe. I will say this, after playing RE4, Village felt more diluted than I remember. I always thought they rushed the strongest aspect of that game, pushing you through the castle as quickly as possible. I felt it even more after RE4. The other addendum to this is I doubt I'd enjoy the more punishing gameplay of RE1, so my love for RE4 is not borne from any attachment to the franchise, it's just that I really enjoyed it. But I can see why for classic RE fans, it is a departure and not necessarily a good one. The idea of a Capcom Dark Souls is new to me, I would have liked to have seen what they came up with, gosh what a missed opportunity there. And oh the movies I've never even gone there but yeah, they look awful. I only hear good things about DMC (well some scuffed bits about one of the PC ports but besides that) I've yet to play one though. Hopefully I'll get around to it, but I'm surprised there hasn't been a sequel announcement. It felt like a massive franchise but I'm not really informed haha Anyway sorry for long reply, I just wanted to say I get where you're coming from and, well I never try to jump on any bandwagons. It was only after I finished this I looked at other RE4 videos and the word masterpiece got thrown around everywhere and it's like "oh well, now it looks like I just played it safe" rofl. But it's not like that, I don't want no Baskin Robbins ice cream, I just wanted to talk about a game I enjoyed. Man, I was 16 when I played this game in 2006 on PS2. I FELL IN LOVE! Back then we didn't know the tricks since YT and walkthroughs weren't largely available as today. I mostly used shotgun and mostly sold handgun ammos. If I knew the tricks like today, I would of finished the main game in a day, another for separate ways and mercenaries in 2. Then I could just use handcanon and Chicago Typewriter to do it all again. This game don't need Remake, it needs Definitive + extended version that will always be made available on future consoles. Real OG RE4 fans need to gather to make this plea to Capcom

The camera in this game is pretty clever, for not needing to ever be touched, by design. On the console original, the “look around” control is merely a digital up down left right “look around corner” function, at most. No point in ever touching it, once the way the game is designed gets familiar.
But indeed there are one or two parts where they overlooked programming it so you can get a cinematic look at a couple things in the distance.
But really, the “aiming” is the players camera control in this game.
The whole level design is based on the camera being fixed behind the player, alternated with the aiming. It’s quite impressive actually.

Also, I just wanted to point out that you can instantly kill all the plagas that pops out of enemy heads with a flash grenade, you didn't mention it when you went over the grenades and I didn't see you do it in any of the footage so I'm assuming you didn't know, forgive me if I'm wrong. It's a great mechanic that can make a lot of encounters so much easier. Works in the remake too if you ever get around to playing that.
Anyways keep up the great work, and thank you for letting me take a trip down memory lane with all these classics.

This game was truly ahead of its time and still ahead of most modern games with environmental details. It's crazy how a nearly 20 year old game still has better physics and environmental effects than newer games. I think modern games need to focus on this rather than realistic graphics, just make a good game with a nice art style, they don't have to pour the whole budget into ray tracing or being able to see individual hairs on the characters. Of course the RE4 remake still does pretty much all of this just as well. Great video, one of the best Resident Evil videos I've seen
I'm sorry my reply is so late! I wanted to have chance to write a proper reply! And I couldn't agree more, this game puts a lot of modern releases to shame. New games have sacrificed environmental immersion for visual immersion, but games have always been about interacting, more than looking. A nice art style as you said, can carry a game a whole lot further than every blade of grass or hair haha! I am still on the fence about the remake, but I still haven't played it, so it's always nice to hear good stuff about it.

Yes thank you so much about giving props to Ashley . There are some things to mention about her .
Gameplay : During the Catapult section you can shoot the red barrels next to them to make it easier . When Ashley follows you and turns her head , she is hinting that someone is behind you . She points out mechanism like at the spike trap , she points out the buttons . At the island you need Ashley to crawl one time because Leon can't , they both have their pros and cons I love it !
Cutscenes : After jumping from the church , she ask "What's gonna happen to us " not just "me" showing that she is also worried about Leon .
After Ashley introduces herself to Luis , she gets slightly embarrased .
When they meet Luis for the second time she admitts that she already cought blood once . Immidiatly asked what Luis dropped and could have maybe prevented his death because even in cutscenes she can notice danger like those waves at the ending .
Leon was already heading towards that dumb trap, so if Ashley didn't cough up blood had a panik attack and ran ahead , Leon would have gotten trapped instead . After all, he did landed on that falltrap .
At the oparating table she asks Leon if he really wants to do this because after all those traps , she suspected it was gonna be another deathtrap .
Let me remind you that we didn't see Leon give ashley the medicin to stop the growth of the parasite . So it was maybe still growing . And even so while getting oparated , she holds back from screaming . She doesn't wanna sound helpless anymore not some "Aah Leon I'm in so much pain help me " .
There is still some things to discover like that butlers note she found . But still thank you for seeing her as a unspoken sidekick .
These are great holy smokes thank you! I missed a lot of these bits but I tell ya what - I cut out a bit about operating table (I think) for runtime but also, Leon trusts Ashley to remove the parasite as well. Again showing how their relationship has evolved into mutual respect, and demonstrating her competence. And yeah like you said, Ashley is tough and has her own pros and cons like Leon. She doesn't get the credit she deserves.

I also love the difference between leon saying something and leon "checking" something. I always imagined that what stands when you check something, he just thinks that to himself. Which would make sense, because it is more serious but sometimes still a little playful

Just finished this game for the first time a couple days ago. I really enjoyed this review. This game was a blast and i actually find the tank controls to be genius and makes it so that no other game but early RE play like this.

So I got this video recommended. Well, I certainly am glad.
Lots of people already addressed obvious things, so I'm going to say my piece about Professional difficulty.
First thing first, Professional difficulty, Leon is the main protagonist name. It's a reference to Leon The Professional movie.
More about pro difficulty, the enemies aggressiveness is at it highest, and won't be affected by in game's dynamic difficulty feature. Ammo drops are lower. And yes, at some spot, more enemy spawn compared to lower difficulties.
Lastly, in Pro, Mike is basically not helping much. Beside those I've mentioned, nothing different in other aspects of the game.
Now, do I enjoy your video? Absolutely. Even as someone who knows this game basically inside out. I'll check on your other videos.

Fun review as always. Recently replayed it, with HD Project installed and fully enabled tweaker options, and had a massive blast. With these enhancements it plays and looks fantastic, on top of great atmosphere, fun vibes (even when corny, they're still enjoyable), good music, tight pace... Great game overall.

It is kinda crazy. The character models, especially in the cutscenes, always impress me. So much of it feels like it came out a few years ahead of it's time, and yeah the HD pack seals the deal today.

What a journey of a video this is, throughout the whole of it i was just seeing myself as a young boy again, playing the game for hours on end on the wii, it really was good to remember how impressed i was at it through your own fresh impressions, once in a while or even more often than not tis maybe better to let oneself be carried away and amazed, playing along with the game and what is trying to convey rather than analyze and evaluate from a sort of constructed distance, anyhow, thanks for such a wonderful job and as i said, quite the journey!

Re4 is such a classic. I don't like most shooters. I don't enjoy most horror. But I sure love Leon S Kennedy's Spanish vacation.

2 decades later, this game is still a legend who gives us panic attacks from every corner of the chapter. Thank you for giving fair and just review of this masterpiece. Characters, story, dialogues, and designs were all enchanting teenager me back then, still does. We don't need a Remake for this, IMO, we need Definitive + Extended version. Aside of improving the graphics without changing their elements (and characters' legendary voices), perhaps extending the extras to Luis Sera, his background, history with Los illuminados and gameplay on his effort obtaining sample of main plaga. Then Ada, I'm sure she didn't handle the main plaga sample to Wesker, she probably took sub-sample and we want another extentions on the extra for this. And what about Krauser? we want to know about him from story + action-packed game on how Krauser survived NDE and joined lunatic cult.
Yeah, folks, us the real fans of OG RE4 must gather our voices and ask Capcom to create this Definitive + Extended version for us and for it to be made available on future consoles so our children and descendants will be able to enjoy this legendary game.

I haven't played the remake, my judgments of that are based on watching other people play, and I think I'll like some of it and dislike others. The remastered minecart chase for example, looks fantastic, but the crafting system seems bloaty and out of place. Also yeah, Luis deserved more time in the OG haha and I love your ideas for the continued exploration of these story threads. I'd just like to see Leon come back in the new games, but I fear that won't happen.

Really fun reviews, first time commenting (I think?) but checked out a couple before (sin episodes, dark messiah, dragon's dogma)
Replaying RE4 myself for the Nth time (lost count), BTW, you said you used re4 tweaks, and it has a lot of cool stuff constantly added to it (using version 1.9 from the github, HD project comes with an older version I think), I find it making RE4 play almost like a modern 3rd person shooter with the mouse tweaks (still tank turning in a way, but much more tolerable, camera does at times still recenter, you can disable some recentering), fov tweaks let alone all the other fixes & stuff.
... Oh, and though it's not in the GUI yet (maybe beta feature, it does look "janky" in gameplay), the trainer ini file inside the re4 tweaks folder lets you assign buttons to swapping out weapons in real time! (a simple line to switch to true) Number key 1 cycles through handguns, 2 shotguns, 3 rifles (&TMP), 4 rocket & mine launcher, 5 throwables, all without ever entering your inventory.

One of my all time favorite games, so much so that I’ve bought and completed it on several consoles (Gamecube, PS2, Wii, PS3, PS4, and Switch). So I was more than ready to listen to ya talk about it for an hour and a half! Great video, very thorough, and even more entertaining! I feel Village is underrated too, it doesn't have the Resi feel that 7 does but it's a great game. Thank you! I've never played the remake, but I've watched a friend stream some and yeah it looked like it took itself more seriously. Apart from that chainsaw kick bit at least. Luis got a bigger role I think so it's got some upsides. I have no idea about MGS but the parallel is neat to know, I'll have to remember that! I am unsure of MGS' availability on PC but I will look into it, I hear they are some fantastic games.

People seem to forget that the parasite was already making Leon and Ashley do things outside their control, thus the trap scene, altho contrived , does make sense

Here's cynical - I have no desire to blow up because I would probably try to make serious money off my channel. UA-cam without Patreon, sponsorship deals, etc... Just would not be proftable for me unless I churned out daily videos. I could do it but they'd not have any soul or entertainment to them, and I would have turned my hobby into a joyless job. And as you said, I'd have no ability to connect with people who love these games and hopefully get a giggle out of my videos. The true reward of reading as people reminisce and laugh would be overshadowed by how much the video might earn. Listen I like money, maybe in the future sure, but I am happy with my channel size for now :D

Played RE4 for the first time a couple years ago. I played games with tank controls before but never in combination with over-the-shoulder view, my brain kinda short circuited from that setup and initially I had difficulty even with going through the doors💀

Once you beat the game and can put Ashley in the knights armor she is the best weapon and armor in the game. Lol put her in between you and the enemies and tell her "wait here" then back of and shoot them as they fail to damage or carry her lol
Haha! Aw that's genius. I had heard about the knights armor but I've not played with it, and that's genius to let Ashley tank rofl, perfect. I bet she can make it through the catapult bit that way too!

@reallylatereviews yeah nothing can hurt her. For the catapult portion just have her wait under that first bridge you go under by the stairs. One more enemy will come from behind to grab her but once you kill him she's good. Then clear out the hut and have her wait there. But yeah in the armor she is invincible. I think once you beat the game you can unlock the special wardrobes
Incinerate grenades are very effective against the Chief Mendez boss battle.
You know I never thought about that, but that makes a lot of sense. I won't lie I think I was either saving them for groups, or at that point had burned through them cause I didn't like them haha! Also, you mentioned earlier the crotch shots but I'm pretty sure they do that "grab" animation when shot in the thighs, plus the women do the same animation. I'm not sure they programmed crotch shots specifically.
About halfway through the video. I'm enjoying it quite a bit, I just was taken aback by the "Ada's thighs" joke, which I'm assuming was just that- a joke.

Haha! Yeah it is true he isn't behind the wheel and I'm not blaming him, what I mean is he isn't able to quickly gain control over the boat and it crashes. In the remake Leon is still in the passenger seat but he instantly takes control and he doesn't smack into the rocks.
I know the thigh scene is a bit on the nose but I think the tension and humour there serves to cement the fact that Leon is into her. I do overanalyse that little bit on the boat, but I just appreciate how much this says about their characters without much dialogue. There's almost nothing said. In the remake they talk the entire time. It's very different and I think I wanted to highlight that.
I think you're right about the crotch shots and that's just ruined me with that knowledge haha! But as for Tobias I think that's Arrested Development? I haven't seen it I must apologise.

This game has very few downsides, but a couple:
About 2 more sections switching to Ashley control for the puzzle/survival gameplay would’ve been nice. I bet they wanted to do more, and ran out of time.
The 3rd section of the game (island) has some great moments with the regenerators and thermal scope, but has less atmosphere than the amazing castle and village that came before. The castle in particular is more awesome than 20 average video games put together.

I really feel like they put time into the camera, and after reading what you said it's evident they thought about the level design's impact on the camera. It's why I hated the RE8 DLC, the levels were not designed for a third person perspective.
I think you're right, more Ashley was probably planned and they ran out of time, or maybe money, as this happened for Dragons Dogma another Capcom game. I too missed the atmosphere in the 3rd section, it had it's moments but it wasn't as eerie. Although I can't even grumble because that fits the more action orientated segments.
RE4's look is, yeah ludicrously good haha! For the time, it's just nuts the attention to detail.
Lastly: Yeah I love Ashley she's a joy to run around with. Despite the segments where the game is actively trying to kill you both, she's a perfect addition, an additional concern/challenge but rarely if ever a headache. Also yeah the whole game is built around finding her rofl, very true.

A big issue with the island is reusing what felt like the eerie “castle theme” music. They should’ve used a new soundtrack cue, besides just the new action cue on the island. This would give the island a bit more of its own feel. Plus, great as that creepy castle music is, it’s overused by recycling for the island.
@@FreakinOutOnAudio This is actually very true and I must admit, I didn't give it much thought, probably because it was eclisped by that action theme they introduced. The use of the creepy castle music is really noticeable though, I think it's the first piece you hear on the island as well.
I play the vr version, it is like modern resident evil game. I was able to shoot while moving.
That sounds fantastic, I had no idea there was a VR version. I did try VR but it was also the first time in my life I had motion sickness rofl. If the day comes I can use it without feeling ill, I'll try this in VR 100%

Still more heart and soul than the remake. Remake is just some one re-making this game based on memories. Ooh look its more dark and realistic, let's removed all the fun and 50% of what made the original great.
I've still not played the remake but watched it via a friend stream and also youtube. I think outside of the new minecart chase, I feel a lot of what you said, I really do. Leon and Ada feel much flatter from a writing perspective. There's also some fundamental gameplay choices that I think, don't take into account the third person perspective as well as the original.

This isn't the greatest game ever, like some people claim, but I played this shit out of this. I don't know how many times I have beaten this. I am on a playthrough currently. I still love the original Resident Evil, as that was one of the first games I had when I got my PSone. I don't ever pre-order stuff, but I did for the remake and I was not disappointed. This was a great review.

Just finished this game. I always refused to play it as a kid because i thought it ruined the RE series by making it an action game. Amazing game, one of my new favorites but i still think its a bad RE game compared to the original 3, but an amazing experience on its own
I've since gained a bit more understanding and appreciation for the franchise, and I agree precisely with what you're saying. It's like RE7 compared to Village, as much as I enjoy Village, it's nowhere near the RE experience 7 was. But also, yeah RE4 is amazing in it's own right and it's opened me up to playing the other games in the future, even if it is wholly different.

I was a youngling at the time. So id always have to stop, save, and turn off before credits. (Y'know rules and chores n stuff).
Also it got to the point to where id only do pro if Ashley had the armor. Not so much for her safety from enemies but because I don't hesitate to put a round in her face, she never stfu..

this video shows how the original was so amazing and 10/10 but to me atleast everything that made the original a 10/10 was removed in the remake which makes me dislike it but it was ok and way too realistic than what the original was, so many good things were either cut or replaced in the remake and i hate this new type of aming they are doing, it the remake its just shit and the worst idea they had done, the new leon that ate up his trauma rather than walking it off and focusing on why he was there was removed and i just see the remake leon an emo and the lines he was wasnt cheesy or funny like the original but more eh and wanted to be deaf than hear what he said but "nighty night knights" i kinda liked it
I missed your comment so I'm sorry I'm late to reply! I saw a lot of the remake and without playing it, I prefer the original. A friend recently went back to try and play it and just couldn't get into it because of the way Leon handles. Like you said there's a real tone difference between the two versions. There's elements that look good but yeah lots of changes. Also if the aiming is anything like the Rose DLC for village, then it's horrendous rofl

I hate chopper mike. Beat the game hundred plus times. So im fast running through. But he forces me to completely slow down or he just hits me over n over again with rockets. Turning thqt spot into a slow as drag section. Where i have to wait for x to happen so i can basically play again. I fucking hate mike

You know what, I understand that. I've played through that segment three times. Twice on normal and once on professional. So for me it's not too bad. But if you're playing a lot of Resi 4, I mean I have crazy respect for you playing it that much, then yeah Chopper Mike is gonna be a fucking nightmare

Re4 is not survival horror
I get why you're saying that and I personally feel it's more action horror, which I try to allude to in the video. But I call it survival horror throughout by and large, simply because it's marketed as such, it's classed as such, it's listed that way on Steam. It has enough elements to fit both camps, so I saw no cause to challenge it.

RE4 was over-praised in my opinion. Yeah, it was the last good game in the Resident Evil Franchise, but I didn't think the game was that great, I actually enjoyed the previous Resident Evil games more than 4. Of course, now every season Capcom has to announce a Resident Evil remake of every game, and sequels that are just getting worse and worse. I don't know why Capcom is committed to making more RE Games when they should stop. I hope RE 9 is their last game, but I have a feeling they are going for 10 so they can get a free ice cream at Baskin Robbins. Unless they make a Resident Evil game where you play as the mysterious masked Mercenary, Hunk. They should stop. I mean, Paul Anderson eventually stopped with those unbelievably bad and vomit-inducing Resident Evil movies. Watching those movies was worse than Chinese water torture. I wish Capcom would make newer original games because they can't rely on Resident Evil forever. This reminds me of way back I think in 2000, 2001, or 2002. Capcom announced they were making a gothic horror dark fantasy action game set in the Middle Ages during the height of the black plague where you play as a knight who would get to fight demons and the undead, and Capcom decided to cancel the project in the end because they must have thought it's too much like Devil May Cry or Onimusha. And I say, what were they thinking. I would have loved to play a game like that. What they were about to do was Dark Souls and Bloodborne. They could have marketed on that before From Software did, and now their refusal to go down with that idea just cost them money in the long run, because From Software got those same ideas years later and they made a lot of bank from it. Maybe some of the developers who worked on Dark Souls and Bloodborne used to work at Capcom, left the company where they decided to continue with their idea somewhere else. The only sequel that I want to see coming from Capcom is Devil May Cry because I love those games, anything else I would them to experiment more on new IPs.
I think if I could add just one line to this review, it would be recognising how vastly different RE4 was to the earlier installments. But I do stand by what I said as I don't view it as a fourth installment, I view it as it's own game just set in the same universe. I will say this, after playing RE4, Village felt more diluted than I remember. I always thought they rushed the strongest aspect of that game, pushing you through the castle as quickly as possible. I felt it even more after RE4.
The other addendum to this is I doubt I'd enjoy the more punishing gameplay of RE1, so my love for RE4 is not borne from any attachment to the franchise, it's just that I really enjoyed it. But I can see why for classic RE fans, it is a departure and not necessarily a good one.
The idea of a Capcom Dark Souls is new to me, I would have liked to have seen what they came up with, gosh what a missed opportunity there. And oh the movies I've never even gone there but yeah, they look awful.
I only hear good things about DMC (well some scuffed bits about one of the PC ports but besides that) I've yet to play one though. Hopefully I'll get around to it, but I'm surprised there hasn't been a sequel announcement. It felt like a massive franchise but I'm not really informed haha
Anyway sorry for long reply, I just wanted to say I get where you're coming from and, well I never try to jump on any bandwagons. It was only after I finished this I looked at other RE4 videos and the word masterpiece got thrown around everywhere and it's like "oh well, now it looks like I just played it safe" rofl. But it's not like that, I don't want no Baskin Robbins ice cream, I just wanted to talk about a game I enjoyed.
