    While it's a shame we'll probably never see an Arx Fatalis 2 or spiritual successor (other than Monomyth), it was neat to see that Arkane hadn't forgotten about the game with the "Fatal Fortress" easter egg in Prey. Also, there's a lot of neat optional stuff you can do like opening the huge doors outside the tavern using a key you get from the king (which kills you), returning Krahoz and Zohark to Alia to get the Shield of the Ancients, using the fireball spell to cook chickens (or clicking them multiple times to make them explode), the Lord Inut sidequest in the crypt, robbing the bank by making a copy of the key, plus others I can't remember off the top of my head. There's even some fun cheats you can enable too, something that a lot of modern games sadly don't include.

      I miss the old style of cheats too. There really is a load of neat stuff in Arx, I learned I missed so much after I finished playing, but the exploding chickens is new to me haha! I'm hopeful for Monomyth and hopeful that games like Arx and Dark Messiah make a return. Great games. Oh, and as for Lord Inut, I messed that quest up by eating all the celery I think lol Thank you! @reallylatereviews 9 днів тому

      I tell ya I'm switching up for Halo 2, mostly for two reasons. I have a personal desire to see the remaster for Halo 2, and by and large everyone says they did a great job remastering 2, if not the original. I will do more extensive side by side testing and record it however. I didn't really bother that much for Combat Evolved because I didn't like the remaster myself, and everyone said it's bad so I figured nobody will want to see it anyway haha. I have also seen little bits of those cutscenes without dialogue and they do look fantastic. (Thank you again!)

  • @FreakinOutOnAudio
    @FreakinOutOnAudio 14 днів тому

    This game has very few downsides, but a couple: About 2 more sections switching to Ashley control for the puzzle/survival gameplay would’ve been nice. I bet they wanted to do more, and ran out of time. The 3rd section of the game (island) has some great moments with the regenerators and thermal scope, but has less atmosphere than the amazing castle and village that came before. The castle in particular is more awesome than 20 average video games put together.

    • @reallylatereviews
      @reallylatereviews 10 днів тому

      I'm gonna reply to your comments all here but first let me say thank you so much for watching and commenting on my video! I appreciate it, so thank you! I really feel like they put time into the camera, and after reading what you said it's evident they thought about the level design's impact on the camera. It's why I hated the RE8 DLC, the levels were not designed for a third person perspective. I think you're right, more Ashley was probably planned and they ran out of time, or maybe money, as this happened for Dragons Dogma another Capcom game. I too missed the atmosphere in the 3rd section, it had it's moments but it wasn't as eerie. Although I can't even grumble because that fits the more action orientated segments. RE4's look is, yeah ludicrously good haha! For the time, it's just nuts the attention to detail. Lastly: Yeah I love Ashley she's a joy to run around with. Despite the segments where the game is actively trying to kill you both, she's a perfect addition, an additional concern/challenge but rarely if ever a headache. Also yeah the whole game is built around finding her rofl, very true. Thank you again!

    • @FreakinOutOnAudio
      @FreakinOutOnAudio 10 днів тому

      A big issue with the island is reusing what felt like the eerie “castle theme” music. They should’ve used a new soundtrack cue, besides just the new action cue on the island. This would give the island a bit more of its own feel. Plus, great as that creepy castle music is, it’s overused by recycling for the island.

    • @reallylatereviews
      @reallylatereviews 9 днів тому

      @@FreakinOutOnAudio This is actually very true and I must admit, I didn't give it much thought, probably because it was eclisped by that action theme they introduced. The use of the creepy castle music is really noticeable though, I think it's the first piece you hear on the island as well.

  • @FreakinOutOnAudio
    @FreakinOutOnAudio 14 днів тому

    Ashley is the best designed escort npc ever. She stays out of the way of shots, isn’t stupid, and is more help than hindrance as far as the adventure goes. No idea why some people think she’s a pain. It’s your mission to begin with to find her.

  • @FreakinOutOnAudio
    @FreakinOutOnAudio 14 днів тому

    The camera in this game is pretty clever, for not needing to ever be touched, by design. On the console original, the “look around” control is merely a digital up down left right “look around corner” function, at most. No point in ever touching it, once the way the game is designed gets familiar. But indeed there are one or two parts where they overlooked programming it so you can get a cinematic look at a couple things in the distance. But really, the “aiming” is the players camera control in this game. The whole level design is based on the camera being fixed behind the player, alternated with the aiming. It’s quite impressive actually.

    This game was truly ahead of its time and still ahead of most modern games with environmental details. It's crazy how a nearly 20 year old game still has better physics and environmental effects than newer games. I think modern games need to focus on this rather than realistic graphics, just make a good game with a nice art style, they don't have to pour the whole budget into ray tracing or being able to see individual hairs on the characters. Of course the RE4 remake still does pretty much all of this just as well. Great video, one of the best Resident Evil videos I've seen

    • @reallylatereviews
      @reallylatereviews 10 днів тому

      I'm sorry my reply is so late! I wanted to have chance to write a proper reply! And I couldn't agree more, this game puts a lot of modern releases to shame. New games have sacrificed environmental immersion for visual immersion, but games have always been about interacting, more than looking. A nice art style as you said, can carry a game a whole lot further than every blade of grass or hair haha! I am still on the fence about the remake, but I still haven't played it, so it's always nice to hear good stuff about it. Lastly, thank you so much for taking the time to watch my video and leave kind words, I really appreciate it! So thank you!

      @@reallylatereviews Hey, I appreciate you reading/responding, timing be damned! Although, it is in good keeping with your channel's name haha. But nah, you show a real consideration for each individual in your audience and that is incredibly cool. That 'cog in machine' line was pretty much just my own take on how it has to go, because if someone like yourself does blow up (which here's hoping!) then you inevitably lose the ability to connect with your audience in the same way because there will simply be too many people. Which is normal, but it might come off as quite cynical as I'm now realizing, jesus lol. I think it's something that probably has a bigger effect on the younger viewers. But, personally, I'm in it for the content and like showing my appreciation for the goods, which you sir, do definitely deliver! @@johnnybensonitis7853 I know exactly what you mean. You don't come off as cynical at all. Here's cynical - I have no desire to blow up because I would probably try to make serious money off my channel. UA-cam without Patreon, sponsorship deals, etc... Just would not be proftable for me unless I churned out daily videos. I could do it but they'd not have any soul or entertainment to them, and I would have turned my hobby into a joyless job. And as you said, I'd have no ability to connect with people who love these games and hopefully get a giggle out of my videos. The true reward of reading as people reminisce and laugh would be overshadowed by how much the video might earn. Listen I like money, maybe in the future sure, but I am happy with my channel size for now :D I think if someone has taken the time out of their day to sit through me talking this long rofl, the least I can do is try to respond. Thank you so much dude just bless you this was lovely to read. Likewise and hope you have a great weekend!

      @@Bahamut998 I tell ya Wilds humbled me a bit. My 3090 has really only been stumped by Wilds and The First Descendant. And I'm pretty sure the optimisation for TFD ain't great, seeing as they hardcoded that nvidia blurring thing. I hear Wilds will improve for release and when I turned it down to Mid it runs a little worse than World did for me at first. But bear in mind, I first played Worlds on an overheating PC with a card that just about handled it, and I made it to endgame. Going back with a card that could run that game, on a PC that had cooling rofl, aw man. I can tell ya right now World is some of the most fun you can have. Unskippable cutscenes. Animations perfectly timed so you miss a Max Charge Greatsword. Frustrating keybindings on mouse and keyboard. Ugly scoutflies. But it's amazing. I've also heard about the DD2 issues which they still haven't fixed, that's just awful given the time they've had. I played this game by installing arx libertaris on the demo, which unlocked the full thing. It was pretty interesting, but my favorite bits are the high levels of interactivity with the little things in the world. Brewing potions, making bread, using the blacksmith to make swords, are all pretty inspiring and immersive and I would like to include them in a game if was ever to make one.

      I just came from your comment on my GD video, thank you holy smokes for watching another video. That really makes me smile, thank you! And I will get around to Halo 2, I gotta do Hitman Blood Money first :P But it's on it's way. I only know two things about Halo 2's weapons. They changed the assault rifle, and dual wielding haha Thank you!

I will absolutely come back for Fangs, I'm waiting for it at this point purely because I like to make videos of the games I play if possible :D Thank you again!

    Man, your content makes you look like an absolute Chad when it comes to "fun to be around". Think you could ever make a Discord server or something to interact with you every now and then? Don't wanna bother you too much either, since you are a busy person lol. This is the second video I am watching from you (first being of one of my favourite games yet so dusty due to lack of playing lol [yeah thats an issue with me :')], Grim Dawn), and you already are becoming one of my favs here in the platform. Love your humour, and really appreciate, from seeing the comments section, how much you spend time with the community. You are awesome, and here's to 10k by the end of the year (at least I hope so because you deserve the support)!

      Ayy first of all. Holy moly thank you so much for your kind words, I can't tell you how nice they are to read. And thank you for watching and hell, for watching another video of mine as well. That makes me smile so much, thank you. And ayyy you're never too dusty for Grim Dawn! It's there when you feel like it! :D Before I even talk about discord, nobody is ever a bother you are not a bother. I try to respond within a few days purely because I tried to keep up with comments daily on my Dragons Dogma video, and I was spending 2 hours a day in December answering comments rofl. Now I do it every few days or so. Please never hesitate to pop a comment somewhere! About Discord/multiplayer, I've been asked before and I'm currently working out how to approach that. I've worked to keep my UA-cam and 'screename' seperate, you might notice some blurred names and stuff. I know this sounds like a video plug but I'm gonna do a channel update video, it will MOSTLY be me waffling but I'm gonna talk about stuff like that. That isn't an answer but I think if you and the others who asked me can hear my voice, I will feel it's a more genuine response and not a brush off. But basically I'm thinking about it Sorry for long reply haha! Thank you again!

    The problem with slow leveling past 60 is usually solved with doubleXP potions, they even work on quest completions, super fast to level with those. Also wish you talked more about amazing gear mechanic they came up with, the Monster Infrequents. A monster/boss specific rare item that is target farmable and changes your skills in huge ways with added damage, damage type conversion, new mechanics etc. unlocking even easier ways to combine two classes together in synergy. Other than that, amazing review, I enjoyed watching it on 2nd screen while grinding in an aRPG, cheers.

    • @reallylatereviews
      @reallylatereviews 29 днів тому

      Yeah once I unlocked those potions it definitely helped out, I keep dying when I get careless though so I end up running out of potions to refresh the buff haha! But it does solve that problem. I tell ya I tried to be a little conservative with my script as the runtime was getting on, but also at the time I wasn't aware just how much Infrequents impacted your build, I was mostly focused on purples like Stormrend - which one day I'll see drop I wanna say also thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment kind words! I really appreciate that, so thank you!

      Haha oh I like that, yeah I guess they did. I get that though, if it worked in those games why not double down. It really is lovely to know someone wants to see more of my vids. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day, and to comment too! AY and I tried Vindictus but I didn't make it too far. Ayy just came from your comment on my Emergence video, thank you! And ooh that's an MMO right? That might be a massive project and it's a game I've never played. I will try it and see! But with suggestions please understand, it takes me 3-6 months for games I plan to do. FPS are quick, easy to review and RPGs are hard, long to review. I also won't review games I don't enjoy as that's unfair to the game. I'll take a look but I can't promise anything! Thank you again!

    11:07 as Jessica backpedals, both her hands move to the pistol grip - probably because she's using Alyx's code and animations tbf the AI of the soldiers was probably the Half-Life 2 Combine Soldier AI which is how they're able to flank you (also explains why the Shotgun trooper is so deadly)

    • @reallylatereviews
      @reallylatereviews Місяць тому

      Haha I wish I had noticed the that! I thought the animations were just "source-like", there's always a certain look to source games. And the AI explanation makes sense too. Hey I mean, solid framework to use haha Let me just say thank you for watching and commenting too! Thank you!
