Reminds me of 2001 sitting in kings park hearing triple j while waiting for the outdoor cinema to open. Drinking passion pop and cheap pizza. While smoking a pack of winnie blues. Memories
Yeah back when Triple J was actually pretty awesome. Shame that it has become what it is now; I'm not referring so much to the music, but the hosts are as irritating as those on commercial stations. It's as if it is the fatted calf is almost at the end of its life, awaiting slaughter -- which is privatization of course.
Tony Fantasia It's still awesome, it's actually improved since I made the previous comment. But it has been awesomer. They just shouldn't try and compete with the commercial station shock jocks, no body likes them anyway, they simply don't need to do this. The Liberals will try their best to destroy it, and it'll start with budget cuts, then it'll be privatised, then it'll be unrecognisable. As Whitlam said, Maintain the rage.
Reminds me of leaving New Zealand at just 6 years old to head for Scotland with my family, miss that place and all the memories. Lucky to have grown up listening to tracks like this from Triple J and the awesome Anzac music scene. Cheers Dad!
This used to play on my local community college radio station about 20 years ago..randomly popped into my head yesterday bringing back some crazy memories
Whenyuu here an obscure song from your past you never really rated at the time of its release & suddenly it takes you back memories of where what when how who you were with when this song was playing the radio
You throw me in a pan You cook me in a can You stretch me with your hands You love to watch me bake You serve me up with cake And that's your big mistake Your guest comes in dressed smart You offer a la carte You didn't have the heart And I want a TV embrace And I, I'm getting off your boiling plate They swore you'd steal my steam To feed your dream And then be gone I wish I could say that everyone was wrong You left me burned and seared You left me ripped and teared And older than my years I should have know at first That you would leave me hurt You had to try dessert No way to let off steam Don't bother milk or cream No way to let off steam And I want a TV embrace And I, I'm getting off this boiling plate They swore you'd steal my steam To feed your dream And then be gone I wish I could say that everyone was wrong It must feel good to stand above me While I make you so proud of me It must feel good that I'm now gone I wish I could say that everyone was wrong I wish everyone was wrong I wish everyone was wrong I wish everyone was wrong I wish everyone was wrong I wish everyone was wrong
and don't forget the addiction! "I wish that I could say that everyone was wrong" a bad relationship is just as addictive as any drug, and even though you know your friends are right in telling you that you should get out, there's just something keeping you there.
Oh man, im not a native speaker so that line always seemed strange and out of place to me and now thanks to you i finally got it, after so many years, thank you :')
It's funny how some people react by affirming that they like to smoke or by telling that they are just lighting up a cigarette - as if they just resisted a very clever brain washing scheme...
@Bleachfreak33 they are a band and they have recorded a great song and this song is inside: just search after this song: "The Axis of Awesome 4 Chords"
the song is not actually about cigarettes but america would probs not pick up on that so he made it out to be for the USA. its actually about being in a relationship that is bad but he just stays in it.
@B00MH0 thats odd, thumbs down for being an ex smoker? o_O. was beginning to wonder if there were any smokers watching this vid, and hopefully they would quit.
Stop, look, listen. From chord 1 to the final an enormous and well developed song. Love not only lost but nuked. Yet we still seem to find ourselves wrecked in our next love sojourner. Penny Lane = sisters. Stand by it. Same theme.
when she's putting the cigarettes in her jacket it looks like she's about to pull a gun out and hold up the store - it's a metaphor for the name of the song - "cigarettes will kill you".
The aussie version of this clip is so much better. This is my first viewing of this clip. What were they thinking with this clip. great song and great artist.........
@RhydianTJ I think they shot her because they saw her hand inside the jacket and thought she had a gun. Maybe the point is that she hadn't realized she had spent all of her money on cigarettes, and this started an chain of events which resulted in her death. And I suppose the store sells the small packs as well, so there's no problem in opening a big one to sell the small ones individually. I'm not sure of any of this, though, and sorry I didn't answer in the right order.

Grunge was cool man. Bring back the cardigan with bongwater stains✌🏻🎧🎤
Love Hina chads, rise up!
Just heard the end of this on Triple J, in the car this afternoon. Had to come hear the whole thing. Such a great song :)
by far ben lees greatest song, still not sure if im in love with the video clip, but what happened to his charisma after this
I was pretty young when this song came out. Underrated - I like this more than we're all in this together
10 years on it's still a fucking great song...one of my favorite lines ever " i want a TV embrace" say it all about a fake love
17 years old. Released in 1999
When Ben was only 19. One of the most precocious rock stars ever
It’s actually based on a misheard Fiona Apple lyric
Or, I want more then what you're willing to give? ✨🤷♀️
@@jadehalliday6636 I think your take is probably more accurate. Basically, "I want that warm feeling I keep hearing about."
Talented Aussie.
talk about memories travelled round oz in 98-99 what a tune happy days.
Whenyuu here an obscure song from your past you never really rated at the time of its release & suddenly it takes you back memories of where what when how who you were with when this song was playing the radio
The first time I heard this song 3 years ago, I fell in love with it.
I’m here now a bit later I might plant some seeds, could be a bumper season for weed
Cool song - lyrics fantastic!
I love this song, it has much depth.
Filmed in Minneapolis by Rick Fuller & Phil Harder. Lighter by Flame Rite, Carton of Smokes by Haze XXL
lmfaooooo throwback to that damn time i was a weeb and played a love hina game on newgrounds
I was hoping someone would mention this game. So nostalgic.
I think Ben was hungry when writing this song, at least 5 times he mentions cake and cups of tea
And a la carte!
And dessert
Also milk and cream...hed just quit smoking, it increases the appetite!
I bought the album at the time it was released. Great album, I love it!
Genius though about the video and lyrics !!!! It's JUST PERFECT !!!
You throw me in a pan
You cook me in a can
You stretch me with your hands
You love to watch me bake
You serve me up with cake
And that's your big mistake
Your guest comes in dressed smart
You offer a la carte
You didn't have the heart
And I want a TV embrace
And I, I'm getting off your boiling plate
They swore you'd steal my steam
To feed your dream
And then be gone
I wish I could say that everyone was wrong
You left me burned and seared
You left me ripped and teared
And older than my years
I should have know at first
That you would leave me hurt
You had to try dessert
No way to let off steam
Don't bother milk or cream
No way to let off steam
And I want a TV embrace
And I, I'm getting off this boiling plate
They swore you'd steal my steam
To feed your dream
And then be gone
I wish I could say that everyone was wrong
It must feel good to stand above me
While I make you so proud of me
It must feel good that I'm now gone
I wish I could say that everyone was wrong
I wish everyone was wrong
I wish everyone was wrong
I wish everyone was wrong
I wish everyone was wrong
I wish everyone was wrong
Thank's for this. These lyric's are so good, one of my favourite song's ever.
"Where WE would KNOW about OUR kind BEFORE we WROTE it DOWN."

@BryGuyShinigami Haha, I thought I was the only one. The piano piece makes me think of Love Hina more than some of its actual soundtrack.

Wow, who knows me liking the music in a Kohl's commercial would bring me to having a new fav artist!
I'll admit it, there's a 14 year old girl inside me, stuck in 1998, still thinking ben lee is cute as hell.
SuperBylzo yeah if it’s Ben lee

Yeah the Horrorshow cover is awesome, I just listened to it then after reading this.
I know, but they're so good
Marble put this ad up to say that everyone dies at some point but not by the smoke from cigarettes
Fucking tune 👌
Finally! I finally found out the name of this song.
It's funny how some people react by affirming that they like to smoke or by telling that they are just lighting up a cigarette - as if they just resisted a very clever brain washing scheme...
Did he get his tv embrace though?
And is he still on that boiling plate?
WHERE DID THE AUSTRALIAN VERSION GO?
