  • It is going to be a bit hard to drive the RV to all those places we want to explore. We need to bring a car along and to do this we will need a Tow Dolly for the car to be towed behind the RV. Try not to laugh too much as we try to use this for the first time.

      The dolly has been working out great on the last couple of trips. We are starting to get pretty good at loading/unloading. Definitely need to have a car with us. The RV is too big to go to many places we want to visit.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoying the video. I am currently editing a 3500-mile later video on the dolly. Hopefully, it will be out in the next few weeks.

      Ours has the surge brakes. In fact that was the only kind I would want. Also our coach trailer connector does not have brake pins. It is a 4 wire connection.

      We are slowly gathering all we need for the days after retirement. We figure, why wait till then and began. Now we get to enjoy and work out all the bugs in our system. The only real issue with the dolly is you can not back up (maybe a straight backup and you have to be careful) so this requires planning ahead for the fuel stops.

    Well 🤔 not bad for a first time. The car stayed on 😎 😂 I don’t think those straps should be that hard to use. I haven’t used those straps but have used smaller ones to hold my bike on and you just pull on the handle and it pops free.

    • @TheGrayLifewithJimPearl
      @TheGrayLifewithJimPearl  Рік тому +1

      When i went to undo the strap the handle hit the car and would not move to the release position. So glad I read the manual. They had me covered and told how to use a screwdriver to get the catch to release. We used it for several trips now and 1200 miles later that dolly is pretty handy for bringing the car along.

    I to have a master tow dolly that works well. I replaced the tire straps furnished by master tow with JCHL straps with double hooks makes it much easier to tie down the tires, not much adjusting. I wish there was a way of locking the deck down without crawling under car.

    • @TheGrayLifewithJimPearl
      @TheGrayLifewithJimPearl  9 місяців тому

      Great tip! I just ordered a set of those straps. Was wanting a spare set, so now the originals will become the spares. Know what you mean about having to crawl on the ground to work with the pin. Thinking of ordering a small mat to have so i won't get all muddy or dirty. Will kust keep it in the cars trunk with the dolly spare tire. Hope you enjoyed the video. Getting ready to make 3000 miles later video. Should be out sometime after the new year.

    Everybody has to learn sometime. You'll get the hang of it pretty quickly. I used the tow dolly and towed a Chrysler Town and Country van all across Canada up through the Yukon, all around Alaska, and back home to Virginia. About 13,000 mi worth. They do the job.

    • @TheGrayLifewithJimPearl
      @TheGrayLifewithJimPearl  Рік тому +2

      So far the Dolly is working out great. Really di not even know it is behind the RV as we head down the road. We have taken it on 2 trips so far and got almost 1200 miles on it. Many more adventure to come. On the Alaska trip was there much ground clearance issues with the dolly and some of the roads. It looks look the ramps may bottom out and scrape on some of the roads.

    • @cumminsdieselgt
      @cumminsdieselgt Рік тому

      @@TheGrayLifewithJimPearl Hey Jim! Never had any problems on any roads all the way. The unit followed the contour perfectly, and like you said, didn't change the "feel" at all. Just kept an eye on it, and would take a break about every hour and a half to check the straps and look at everything just to be safe. Best wishes for your travels and fun!

    • @cumminsdieselgt
      @cumminsdieselgt Рік тому

      Just be cautious and use due diligence in towing. And never, never try to back up. Won't end well. Always give yourself a pull through everywhere you go once connected! 😁

    • @TheGrayLifewithJimPearl
      @TheGrayLifewithJimPearl  Рік тому +1

      @cumminsdieselgt definitely backing is bad. I have added a folding jack to the tongue so if we need to get in someplace tight (fuel) we can drop the dolly/car and get what we need. Oh, this is also the reason I purchased a TPMS. Heard stories of things blowing out on the dolly or car and you feel nothing as you are driving the coach down the road.

    I feel your pain figuring out how to use this system for the first time with no one to help you. You will never forget how to hook it up now.... I figured out if I look out my drivers side window and down at the cars tire as I'm driving up, I can line the wheel up on some holes on the ramp and have it in the middle by my self. I also have to use yellow ramps as my Honda fit is too low to the ground to just drive up without dragging on the dolly loading. How often did you grease it while traveling ?

    • @TheGrayLifewithJimPearl
      @TheGrayLifewithJimPearl  10 місяців тому

      We need to get those yellow leveling ocks to make some loading ramps. We had a issue on last trip with rain and a gravel parking lot. Peark is great when we load. She also helps by getting the straps out and started. This really cuts down on loading time. For lubing the bearings I was about to do it before putting the dolly away for its winter nap. I just checked the manual and it says every 3000 miles. I had put just a little under that on it this season. Definitely time to lube those bearings. When I do, think I will video it. This dolly video is becoming one of most viewed. Love the dolly and had no issues with it this season. The car has never swayed. In fact most of the time, you don't even know it is back there. That's why I bought a tire monitor in case something starts to happen. The only thing I do not like about it is that you have to lie on the ground to install/remove the deck lock pin. Thats it

    • @TheGrayLifewithJimPearl
      @TheGrayLifewithJimPearl  11 місяців тому +1

      Yes you do. The car in this video has a locking steering wheel. Since then it was totalled in an accident. The new civic steering wheel does not lock, so I take the drivers seatbelt and loop it through the steering wheel and buckle it. This keeps the wheel from moving and you don't have to by anything.

      @@TheGrayLifewithJimPearl Thank for the info

    • @bobbylibertini
      @bobbylibertini 6 місяців тому +1

      Actually, it depends.... If you have a dolly with a swivel deck, you have to lock the steering wheel; If your deck doesn't swivel, then you have to leave the wheel unlocked. Some dolly models have a removeable pin so that you can make it so the deck swivels, or you can keep it locked in place, which makes for easier backing-up.
