    Planning on towing my car out of state using a tow dolly and this was probably the best video I've seen assembling and disassembling the car+dolly. I appreciate you both. Stay safe and happy camping!

    7:40 It had nothing to do with it being locked, you can see at 2:58 the hitch was just resting on the ball

      True. 1st time watching this video and I did squint at the way he first contacts the hitch with the ball, it clearly was laid down way forward that it should. I know this because when I cant break enough and this happens with my trailer, the hitch' latch gets stuck in the closed position and I have to mess with it with my hand to get it to open again. So it kind of not suprises me it came lose, glad noone was hurt! It gets easier with time :)

    Even at miniute 2:58 you can see he didn't get it all the way down on the ball....I've done that a time or two....fortunately caught before something bad happened. Thx for the video.

    Always check the hitch is installed properly and pull up on the trailer hitch to see if ball is engaged then lock, next your wheel straps were put upside down, hooks on strap should be placed under the hook rail and not over the rail, hope I’m clear? Anyway thanks for the vid!

    ALWAYS visually check your trailer "socket" goes inside the tow ball. I did not check ONCE because it was cold and raining and 30 minutes later it came off. Luckily the chains prevented a disaster.

    When it comes to locking the steering wheel, I’m not sure if it’s required but, EZ loaders tell you to leave it unlocked. I guess you have to read the directions from the individual tow dolly manufacture.

    • @PortaParsonageDaveJenniPiatt
      @PortaParsonageDaveJenniPiatt  2 місяці тому

      Everything I read or saw suggested locking the wheel. I’m not sure what difference it really makes as long as the car is secure on the dolly.

    Regarding locking the steering wheel. If your dolly pivots like the uhaul dollies, then lock it. If it doesn’t pivot, like yours appears not to, then do not lock it.

    • @dcpiatt50
      @dcpiatt50 2 роки тому

    I have to use boards also to load the wife's minivan, but they don't need to be nearly as long as yours!! Think for space sake, your could cut them down a lot!!

    • @PortaParsonageDaveJenniPiatt
      @PortaParsonageDaveJenniPiatt  3 роки тому

      Surprisingly, we actually needed that length due to the air dam on the car. But we did switch to stackable blocks to save space. That makes it all easier to deal with. Now we have a new car that someday we'll flat tow! LoL

    • @mcgizzle7835
      @mcgizzle7835 3 роки тому

      I was thinking the same thing on the length of your boards. I personally have a set that are 8 foot long but I only use them on a couple of extremely low vehicles I move from time to time on my flatbed trailer.
      If you didn’t find the stackable blocks with the size of your car you could have simply used a 3ft 2x6 or 2x8 and just laid it on top of the dollies ramp.

    If a tree fell in the woods, would my nosey neighbor still gripe about my motorhome?
    He called the police on me because I refused to move my motorhome right now. He became loud when the responding police told him it does not concern him. Boohoo, sniff.
    "Not in my noseyhood".

    I can tell you everything you are about to learn. Your front is to long for the Unit , I see several Mistakes this man is doing being a retired over the roar Trucker over 50 years.On the straps you should pull the tail of the strap all the way through the Binder ratchet. Why? Because the way you have it it can jar loose. Owner and Operator as well as a DOT taught Safety Inspector in Transportation.

    • @PortaParsonageDaveJenniPiatt
      @PortaParsonageDaveJenniPiatt  Рік тому

      I’m not sure what you mean about the front being too long for the unit, but I have learned a great deal since this test run ( which was only in the parking lot). I quickly learned that about the straps, especially since the car we tow now has 14” tires. Thanks for your comments!

    1) Use A Tripod. (Video was extremely shaky)
    2) Best information provided (albeit brief) was the "4th attempt"). The rest was ????
    3) It would be extremely useful if you provided the dimensions of the last (4th attempt) ramp. Length of each individual planks and their thicknesses.
