lol me too, I’ve been doing this for years as well and I nearly didn’t watch the video because apparently I thought I knew it all 🤦♂️ wrong lol. Always learning!! 😆
The way I've been tying off the loose end for 35 years has now been shown to suck. Also, this gentleman speaks English far better than many in the U.S. who've been here for generations, and know no other language. Truly a perfectionist in all he does.
As a old timer who used to rope and sheet back in the “good old days” I find this video the best of all the others. Clear, in logical order and presented in such a way that I will no longer be confused when it comes to strapping a load. Thank you for the video.
I use straps virtually every day for the last 15 years and I still learned something! Your straps are much nicer than ours but the theory and use are the same. Great job with the video and your presentation!
@@r22jeff Thing is I don't think 'how to tie this shit to the truck' is part of the test to get your truck licence. I'm a crane driver and had to figure shit out myself on how to tie down the 1200mm-round thick rigger mats that I had to put on the deck of a 55 grove because the owner goofed up in getting those instead of metre or 800mm-rounds for the backbox, and guess how many times this sucker was last person on site and fell on his ass and head (... so many headaches...) because trying to lift those mats either required breaking the rules of manual handling (I HAVE to bend my fucking back, I can't get a corner! THERE IS NO CORNER) or saying fuck it and leaving them on site. Okay I was a crane driver for a long-while before that particular job (fcking stupid shitting bollocking twatting bullshit), but still, loading and securing a ballast trailer with 50t of ballast (3x 9t slabs, 2x 13t cheeks), rigger mats (2m x 2m square metal mats), and lifting gear, no one ever said "this is how you stop this HOLY SHIT I LOADED AND SECURED PIECES UP TO THIRTEEN FUCKING TONNES WITHOUT TRAINING. AND NO ONE DIED SO, DID IT RIGHT WITHOUT KNOWING IF IT WAS GOOD OR NOT?) Seriously why haven't I seen these things as a fucking course you have to take? I worked as an agency worker for a bit at a furniture distribution warehouse and had to load their trucks and IT WASNT IN ANY TRAINING. Or at least, training amounted to just... "Right so these go up top, these go on bottom, reverse delivery order so first deliveries loaded last". I GUESSED at what those dangling straps inside the box were for and used them...
Im a public servant. Public service training sessions are a slow painful horrible day that NEVER ends, Days that you dread. I sat my Class 2 HT license four years ago (2017) and this young chap took the class. There were 12 of us all from various countries, backgrounds and different abilities/skills. The first day class session was 8am till 5pm, all day with a lunch break at 12pm. The next day was the practical exam. That first day class session was the most engaging training session I'd ever been in. He kept everyone up to speed at the same pace, made it highly informative, engaging and fun. (and English is his second language) Not at any point in the whole day did I once look at my watch! That takes some skill.....
I hadn't used ratchet straps before so I was concerned about the correct way to thread the long strap through the ratchet. I watched 3 of these videos and the other two waffled on and took ages at getting to the point and the main usage points. This lad was direct, clear and simplified the actions required, plus a couple of useful hints re storage of the excess strap. Excellent video.
Watched again and learned more. One of the best videos on You Tube. This young man does not waste your time talking about himself. Wish all were like him. : )
This is unbelievable! Two days ago I bought some ratchet straps for using to tie down my canoe to my roof racks. I spent twenty minutes trying to figure out how to,work them and gave up in disgust. Today I was watching some videos on politics and bumped into this video totally by chance. Within a few minutes I learned everything I'll ever need to know about using this gear! Thanks so much for such concise and incredibly clear directions!
Been using ratchet straps for 33 years and just learned a new trick! Avoiding edge damage while using the strap is paramount though. Keeping the webbing/strap totally parallel while ratcheting up is essential! So many people just ratchet up and get the edges trapped! It ruins your straps quickly. Excellent video, cheers!
Been driving flatbeds over 20 years, don't know how I got to this video but I'm sure glad I did. Even us old folks can learn a new trick. Thanks a bunch 👍
I spent years trying to figure how these straps work ( no kidding ). I going to untangle my straps and practice with this video. It was a very professional presentation. You clearly and easily understanding “lessons” was a big plus. Thank you.
Wow, this was a total revelation to me. I don’t use straps very often and they are always a mess. Now I know why, I have never used them properly. Thanks a million for such a simple and clear guide. BRILLIANT 👍
ALL tutorials should be as well-made as this!!!! No BS, no useless so-called distracting/annoying "music", just straight to the point and CLEARLY explained. Kudos!!!!!!
I stopped working with trucks 2 months ago.. but let me tell you, your video saved me big time working with ratchet straps and avoiding disasters, thanks man
You have explained this task very easily and professionally. I am a technical person but your explanation made it easier to follow and put into practice. You are a good teacher. Great job my friend.
Awesome video! After 28 yrs of longhaul flat bed, I've learned a lot of tricks, This young man just taught me one more that I'll be passing on. Thank You very much, and well done!
I"ve been watching videos on ratchet straps all evening and this guy's is by far the clearest and best, not to mention free from forced humor, of all of them. Outstanding.
Your explanation is SUPER!!! The eye-and-hook ends of your straps are new to me.... much better than just the hooks that are always trying to escape..... Just two comments.... the (heavy!) container should be shifted forward against the front of the bed (and that in turn should be ok to protect the driver against the load rushing forward!!) And (speaking of experience...) always second-check your straps and load after a few miles!!... I usually travel few kilometres before entering the motorway... I always second check before entering the motorway.... rarely there is nothing to be corrected!!! Greetings, thanks a bunch,Henk Tulp,Netherlands....
You sir, are a rachet strap god! And, the reason why the internet and UA-cam should exist. Thank you for a fantastic lesson, now I have to go tie something down!!
just started a new driving job involving flat deck loading, something I've never done before. As I'd already seen this video, I was able to get stuck in and help secure the loads/release/stow away the ratchets and straps correctly. The best bit was knowing how to secure the ends, it would have been very stressful to try and work it out on the job under a bit of time pressure. Thanks SDT!!
holy shit! i thought that was only me. rather I ask the question to whomever is there to hear it "where's that goin'?". Wife says my girls make fun on me on social media for that.
I’ve always got along ok with using these type of straps, but...now I know how to do it right! Really a very well done video! When the grandkids ask me to help strap down their pick-up bed cargo I can now be...professional! Thank you for posting.
A very good and informative video. I have been using these straps for years and after watching this demonstration I now realise how to use them in a more professional, safer and neater way.
Great video. I've been hauling equipment and material for 40 years using ratchet straps. I learned a thing or two in this video. Great tutorial and perfect presentation. Thank you!!!
I've been searching for the best way to store excess strap when hauling, lots of Videos out there but clearly this gentleman has it down to a science! Thank you very much, great work!
Agreed, tried this method on a trip here in NZ and it worked a treat. Strap didn't come loose, easy to untie at the end. Brilliant. I am not a professional driver just a joe bloggs moving some stuff between cities.
Very informative. I’ve been using straps for years and this is one of the best videos explaining the use of the straps I have ever seen.👍👍Two thumbs up.
Best tutorial ever!! ...For a simple procedure, but nothing is out of explain. It not assume the common sense will work, although it Simply perfect!! 👏👏👏👏
Fabulous. What a professional video! I am not a trucker - but a well-rounded education is a good thing in my view. I watched this out of interest but this young man is such a fabulous instructor and presenter - I think he could teach anyone, just about anything! Well Done! I wish a video was available back in the 90’s. I’ve had to learn the hard way. I’ve seen people at the local hardware store, they need to watch this video. It’s not that hard, once you get the tricks figured out. Nothing new for me under the sun, but it was a great video. Thumbs up.
What an excellent video. The strap slack storage is sheer professionalism. That has always been my frustration. I hope I can remember this on my next load. We can't do the half twist to prevent wind vibration here in Ontario Canada, though, because we'll get fined for that.

Exactly. It's a foolish man who thinks he knows everything. Life is one big learning experience.
Crazy how a Russian is teaching us safety stuff. Lol.
You’ve been doing it all wrong for 40 years

No wonder the vulture earlier today had its wings closed I understand now I thought they're leaving the wings for the Viking eagle for the back
Dumbass you don't realize they speak English in new Zealand?
What a perfect person for this video. It is easy to see he takes great pride in his work. Very refreshing!
Yeah, because a lot of people know stuff, but few can teach well
As a old timer who used to rope and sheet back in the “good old days” I find this video the best of all the others. Clear, in logical order and presented in such a way that I will no longer be confused when it comes to strapping a load. Thank you for the video.

U been smoking dope and forget 15years of experience

This is my new favorite video on the internet, and I'll probably never use a ratchet strap in my life!
Just found this video.... the best I have seen on ratchet straps much and much easier then the way I was shown, you so much
Great video, but you missed one small but crucial step. When you did the sound test to check tension, you forgot to say "thats not going any where"
Good one!!!
That's absolutely mandatory, I believe it's in the code somewhere
just magic :)

Someone can finally explain it clearly and concisely, thank you !
Simple, effective and great video. Thank you.
Really helpful video. Wasn't sure how to secure the slack properly, but now I do. Thanks and keep up the great work.
Ok that was a new trick on excess line. Thanks I will show it to other truckers ... I just use a shorter strap and bungie .. thanks again for the info
The holy heck. This guy just de-mystified ratchet straps for the entire free world. That was really satisfying.
Best demonstration by far. Thanks
Fabulous. What a professional video! I am not a trucker - but a well-rounded education is a good thing in my view. I watched this out of interest but this young man is such a fabulous instructor and presenter - I think he could teach anyone, just about anything!

Thank you so much for this very instructive video. Well done 👏🤗
8 years of flat bedding and being called the short flatbed king and I just learned something new!! Thank you man!!
What a pro! Thorough, concise and with all the tricks! Thank you for your amazing video!
You are the best! And I appreciate your video very much!
I wish some one taught me this 40 years ago. good instruction.
I'm passing it on to everyone I see at the yard loading.
Yes I agree. Very simple and clean instruction.I like this guy. Everyone learns better from different people. This guy made it easy.
Yep!

Fantastic video, i would have loved to have him teach me when I did my driver training, great tips and tricks, thank you!
What an excellent video. The strap slack storage is sheer professionalism. That has always been my frustration. I hope I can remember this on my next load.

Exactly the way I did it for years. Used to do my head in with other guys tying up wrong.
Perfect video 👍
me at the start: HA! who watches a video on using ratchet straps
me at the end of a 12 min: man, this guy taught me how to use ratchet straps
Right? Me too
i'm guilty, too ... already knew about the core concept but i just saw some good tips for less hassle especially when handling more than just one or two. as always the right technique can make life soooo much easier.
