The Germans command of the English language is as amazing as anything else in this video. I have a strong respect for any culture that emphasizes the value of learning a language. Americans should speak Spanish the way Germans speak English.
The pronunciation of the people in this video is definitely above average. I'd say that most germans are able to communicate well in english but usually not with this pronunciation. ^^
I´m a bit disappointed that they didn´t visit Münster. It´s like the home of skateboarding. They should have visited Titus Dittmann, the founder of Titus skateboards.
Dortmund Skatelife he is a smart shopowner who was willing to get close enough to the scene to know what they needed. Sure, buying at an independent store is way better, if ur city has one. But what is wrong about selling decent quality skatestuff through magazines (back then) and internet (today)? He never really pretended being a active skater.
I live in Santa Cruz and watching this made me want to visit Germany! That little snake run (derby park) they were skating is still there and is one of my favorite spots. Awesome to see how skating brings the world together.
Thanks for the upload! Claus Grabke the Münster-Monster, I'll never forget his & Jeff Hedge's part in the Santa Cruz Vid "Streets on Fire". I watched it over and over again back in da days. Damn ... good old memories!!! Grts from Munich (Oktoberfest-City =] ) to all true, friendly & nice Skaters outta there!!!.
Nothing about Kulturforum, the museum spot, the heitmann gap, the polish-german monument - all landmark spots of the Berlin skate scene. Instead you've got some old dude talking about vert ramps. Fuck that, it seems they've left out the entire street scene in Berlin, to speak nothing of leaving out Cologne, Stuttgart etc.
Great interview with Claus. Such a great guy and I've always loved his style. I've watched a few of this Skate World docs and this one appeal to me the most.
Chris Pfanner needs to be in Skateworld: Austria, since he is austrian. Make Skateworld: Austria happen. We also have little Shops, DIY-Crews and selfmade Brands. Please, VICE.
Oh, man! Currywurst mit Brötchen! Making me miss Germany, and all the awesome food (not to leave out the country, and how much I loved living there.) Even finding brötchen is near impossible, let alone a good currywurst.
That wobble spot reminds me of Philly's FDR skatepark. Or Burnside in Portland. Man, some good memories skating in the 90's comeback every time I watch skate videos.
The little part Claus Grabke said about skating and how its international to want to be on your skateboard. So fucking true. You feel it, if you heard a board in the street, you look and just wish you were on that board. Its in your blood once you fall in love with skating, you cant stop.
Awesome vid guys. I've been fascinated by Germany for years and have always wondered what the skate scene would be like. After reading Kurt Vonnegut's novel Slaughterhouse-five I've wanted to visit Dresden. Skating around there would be really surreal.
VICE, bravo on this series for showing skating is not some mundane activity in which it's participants can be falsely stereotyped, but a very interesting sub-culture and community. Plus, it's rad as fuck and heaps of fun. Once a skater, always a skater.
I'm kinda pissed that they do half the thing with some washed up ex proskater, leaving out cologne and stuttgart which both are cities with really big skate scenes and tons of spots..
This point of view is dumb, he explained so much history and you wanted to hear about two cities you already know about? Like, if their scenes are great, take a trip. It's your problem for you to figure it out, lol. Besides, claus grabke is cool, and sounds like a nice as fuck guy in the video. His old band was cool too. Very unique punk rock band featured in skate videos, too. Thats how I found this vid out of curiosity. I was happy to see the man behind the music I enjoyed for years. Also, his name is probably worth more than yours when it comes to skating and the history.
I leave in Berlin and i here since one year i learned Deutsch , and swear !! I thank GOD THAT MY FAMILY DECIDED TO COME HERE INSTEAD OF GOING TO LONDON!!! thanks God Berlin is one of the best city of the Planet !!!
To learn to speak English is quite easy for Germans because there's a lot of similarities between these 2 languages. A lot of words sound almost identical and a lot of the compound nouns can be translated literally. I am German by the way.
You seem like an awesome person, most people who have common sense know that Nazi Germany happened decades ago and has nothing to do with you now. In fact, my cousin lives in Germany and says great things about Germans. The internet is great because we can communicate with others around the world and see that we aren't really different. Grüße aus Kalifornien!!!
Hey! Come visit California man! This place is a lot of fun! I myself would like to visit Germany. As soon as I can afford it, I will make the trip. Cheers! Great English by the way. I wish I knew how to speak German as good as you speak English.
Dude! Im german.. I didnt live by that time, but i dont know a single person, who wants the old germany back. I think your view about that is very much influenced by people, who obviously dont like germany that much :p
I don´t know how it is over in spain and portugal but the austrians and swiss are also very capable of speaking english. I think it is because we still feel like we did WW2 (WW1 technically is austrias fault ... the second one aswell coming to think about it...) and have to be the A+ student in order to overcome this. These are just my feelings and views about it. Nothing scientific

I can proof that!
I couldn’t agree more
wtf? they done a video about skateboarding in germany bit didnt tell that titus dittmann brought it to europe?
I´m a bit disappointed that they didn´t visit Münster. It´s like the home of skateboarding. They should have visited Titus Dittmann, the founder of Titus skateboards.
Its a doku about REAL Skateboarding.
Sorry man,but Titus is the fakest shit ever

Hahahahahahhahahahaha
i think i will start skating now.
go right ahead bro its never too late to start!
AsaLSB yeah except as you get older like past 35 years old you'll find that when you slam instead of just getting a bruise it'll be a broken bone lol
+tasteegold7772 im 27, 28 tomorrow, i just started skating properly this week.
Hell yeah!! I am not that good but it is so much fun!
do you skate now? :D
I live in Santa Cruz and watching this made me want to visit Germany! That little snake run (derby park) they were skating is still there and is one of my favorite spots. Awesome to see how skating brings the world together.

Please, VICE.
yesss please
For those who are wondering: The song starting at 12:40 is
"Eight Dayz - What's so strange about me"
To see pfanner being credited as amateur skater in this video, and knowing what he is doing today is a real inspiration!
It also says "heads across the Bavarian Alps" not "near the Bavarian Alps". Well done.
i love all vice videos. u always get a complete information.
Oh, man! Currywurst mit Brötchen! Making me miss Germany, and all the awesome food (not to leave out the country, and how much I loved living there.) Even finding brötchen is near impossible, let alone a good currywurst.
I seriously can't imagine living without Brötchen they're my Grundnahrungsmittel (staple food?) :D
Greetings from Germany! :D

That wobble spot reminds me of Philly's FDR skatepark. Or Burnside in Portland. Man, some good memories skating in the 90's comeback every time I watch skate videos.

Funny to have Chris Pfanner described as an amateur skater few years down the road he is a pro signed for Vans and AntiHero
I'm kinda pissed that they do half the thing with some washed up ex proskater, leaving out cologne and stuttgart which both are cities with really big skate scenes and tons of spots..

To learn to speak English is quite easy for Germans because there's a lot of similarities between these 2 languages. A lot of words sound almost identical and a lot of the compound nouns can be translated literally. I am German by the way.

perkole95 Hey, fuck off. You don't know what you're talking about.

but for real tho, when I was there in Russia, (Vladivostok, St. Petersburg and Moscow) I didn't really see any skaters there...
Alexander Petropavlovskiy
So if you saw nobody skate why should Vice visit russia?

There should be a video named "Skate World: Sweden" becasue we got epic spots here.

You'll poke your eye out, kid
yep thats true, because they just add danish subtitles for their movies
Dude! Im german.. I didnt live by that time, but i dont know a single person, who wants the old germany back. I think your view about that is very much influenced by people, who obviously dont like germany that much :p
Sorry to say but the description is wrong... Hamburg is so far from any kind of alps. The north part of Germany is extremely flat.
I like how Chris Pfanner looks like just any ordinary guy wearing fancy clothes and stuff
who needs german skatepark if you have the area51?
germans and europeans in general are insanely good at english
berlin my home
I don´t know how it is over in spain and portugal but the austrians and swiss are also very capable of speaking english. I think it is because we still feel like we did WW2 (WW1 technically is austrias fault ... the second one aswell coming to think about it...) and have to be the A+ student in order to overcome this. What is the music in the VIDEO? Anyone?
