nice doc, well put Vice. Sharing so much of this story: plastic boards, building ramps, learning tricks from US mags, the summer camp in Sweden (dreamin' going to), skating alone... Cheers!
I lived in Denmark for a month this summer and I gotta say, the skate scene is very lively, there are tons of people skating (and longboarding), using the bike lanes to get around the city, there are lots of street spots, lots of skateparks. Fælledparken in Copenhagen is an awesome concrete skatepark that was built a few years ago. Overall I liked the city very much. But the weather is just unsuitable for skating. When I was there, in August, the daytime temeratures most of the times hovered around 16-20C (60-68F) which is alright, but keep in mind this is summer time for them. In the winter it gets really really cold, and windy and I was told the sun sets in like 3:30/4pm. Skating in any other month except the summer months (june-july-august-september) is pretty horrible. Of course you have the option of going to an indoor skatepark - Copenhagen Skatepark, but that is just not as good as skating outside imo. Overall, beautiful city, lots of spots but the weather just kills it for me.
I skate, have TRIED cocaine and lsd a few times, I do smoke weed, I work 2 jobs, go to college, volunteer some of my time to charities every so often, donate money to trustworthy charities, respect everyone, and try to be as nice and helpful to everyone i meet. Peace friends, i love this series vice!
Most those guys i use to skate with back in the 90s. and like some say they missed Rune big time, the man who taught me to do the big vert with air. i was the first to ever skate with both Glifberg and Hawk on in it back then, and that shiiit made me soo damn popular that i still look back on that day as one of the best ive ever had. Skate gods was good to me that day. and remember going to london and saw a skate park, then nicky came and was like heeey martin where is your board. and i didint bring it soo was kind of bummed out about it. but he was like hey grap my board and have a go at the park. One of the nicest people u will ever meet in skateboarding. Salute
Nice doc, was awesome to get some skateboarding history from my own country. Good thing vice visited Denmark. You should also do a doc on the founder of ALIS, he seems like a really interesting person :)
I read everything you said, and i can follow you on some points... A few things though... 1. The danish police tried to shut the area down multiple times+patrols it once in a while. 2. I dont smoke myself and havent tried, but if people wants to they should be allowed as long as they dont hurt others while affected(no smoking in public neither etc.) 3. As long as its casual smoking its fine imo. 4. I understand your concerns, but its their lifes. 5. You dont get jailed for smoking, only smugle.
Great doc, thanks for putting Denmark in the spotlight :) The only thing that gets on my nerves is Nicky Guerreros accent. He sounds like Lars Ulrich or something :s
totally aggree. i am german but i spent alot of time in norway when i was like 15-17 and all the kids in my age spoke so much better english than me. i think a huge reason is that when you watch a movie on tv in germany its 100% with german dubbing but in scandinavia its never dubbed. in addition to that they have a very good school system
scrotty mcboogerballs no they have some stuff dubbed there like pokemon but true many things arent as dubbed as in germany cause translating to danish is trickier then to german
In Denmark there is an area located in our capitol where you can pretty much just call for it and get offered it by 10 random people... If you ask for pot, you can get it anywhere pretty much...
Skate World: Norway.. now thats a fucking story.. from 7. september 1978 to 9. mai 1989 it was illegal to sell, buy and use a skateboard(so as you might think it sparked a huge underground skating scene)
I find it funny that he said that skaters from Copenhagen wouldn't be able to make it to a pro level unless they went to the states, yet hjalte is now pro for polar
Denmark and the most European countries have a healthy mix of socialism and Liberalism, which have ensured a strong economy and a good society. I am very happy that I don´t have to worry about amassing a large amount of money to get my children to school, high school and university. may I ask where you are from? have you ever lived in a country that have been influenced by socialism?
whens vice going to make a doc on agressive blading. i kno its underground and what ever but theyd have a story to tell from it bieng on top and now down below
I love these skate world videos, thank you for making quality skateboarding documentaries vice
in like 10 years of youtube this will be the only thing I subscribe to you guys are that awesome.
nice doc, well put Vice. Sharing so much of this story: plastic boards, building ramps, learning tricks from US mags, the summer camp in Sweden (dreamin' going to), skating alone...
Cheers!
Aw man, Nicky Guerrera! My brother had one of his boards (which I stole) when I was young, good to see he's still at it
Sounds so similar to a German accent :D
Really? Seems really nice english to me. Though I cringe at our dutch accents.
You think so? I think it sounds awesome. I'm Swedish btw.
These guys here inspired me to start skating back in 86, much respect!

last year was an exception.. august was cold but september was bomb! the city goes nuts when summer is there!!
same here in the netherlands! or my city at least :) really coming back again
I remember Nicky fom my first ever skate contest, it was sooo awesome
Adrenaline. Your picking. Your bags. Up running. Through the stairways. Adrenaline. Because you know the people they escape barely.

God it's nice to see Vice showing of dear Denmark.
Great work vice, I love the skate world docs.
Hahaha.. They didn't mention Rune Glifberg once - arguably the best skater ever from Denmark. Talk about bias!
The biggest reason I clicked this video was for Rune. disappointed
they did
what a historic of skateboarding ? what a cool story and adventure !! for skateboarding ...
an amazing documentary. so insightful thank you very much

ps we where way more then just 15 skaters in the 90s mate, we where alot alot more
skateboarding is great everywhere. as long as people who are creating the scene are not full of themselfs everything is cool
Much love to DK from SE! Interesting doc, Vice. Love it.
Cool to see VICE in Denmark!!! WUUUHUU!!
Nice doc, was awesome to get some skateboarding history from my own country. Good thing vice visited Denmark. You should also do a doc on the founder of ALIS, he seems like a really interesting person :)

Vice man, you have to do a Skate World: USA. It would be insane.
Who gives a shit about the US
If you just got mad or something like that, your a fucking idiot.
Miklas Ager You're the idiot for being mad at him imo

Seriously.
Really interesting, as always! I love this series!
now we want norway, since you've guys done sweden and denmark !
Sorry norway hehe denmark here
I read everything you said, and i can follow you on some points... A few things though...
1. The danish police tried to shut the area down multiple times+patrols it once in a while.

Great doc, thanks for putting Denmark in the spotlight :) The only thing that gets on my nerves is Nicky Guerreros accent. He sounds like Lars Ulrich or something :s

I'd be very interested in seeing that Vice doc.
i knew out of all the skate world the danish be the one that speak the best english the scandinavians are so good at learning english
totally aggree. i am german but i spent alot of time in norway when i was like 15-17 and all the kids in my age spoke so much better english than me. i think a huge reason is that when you watch a movie on tv in germany its 100% with german dubbing but in scandinavia its never dubbed. in addition to that they have a very good school system
Denmark is not a part of skandinavia.
scrotty mcboogerballs no they have some stuff dubbed there like pokemon but true many things arent as dubbed as in germany cause translating to danish is trickier then to german

Nicky Guerrero talks like a small Arnold Schwarzenegger
this reminds me of a skate show i saw on netflix Canada
i think the skate scene in aarhus is bigger though.. where i live, the second biggest city in Denmark.. there is sooo many skaters there
Very nice video. Thank u vice
Havde ik lige regnet med at se danmark på VICE!
Is it any episodes from Norway here?
Vice is so ironic in the way they did this episode
that dude has an awesome grandma
Pro is for professional, and professional simply means you make a living doing something.
So in other words - A skater who gets by simply by skating.
Is there going to be one for Finland, seeing as it is quite a formidable presence in Scandinavian skateboarding ;D
Show Brazil! Thumbs up so vice can see it! Mostrem o Brasil aqui tem muita coisa legal de skate!
Business. Team. Bones. Brigade. Power.
I'm no skater, but this is what Vice is all about. Letting us see the most beautiful and most ugly corners of the world.
Best fucking series all over the net
The weather is so fucking shitty in Denmark right now..

I find it funny that he said that skaters from Copenhagen wouldn't be able to make it to a pro level unless they went to the states, yet hjalte is now pro for polar
