    They would have been better leaving the short broken bit out and replacing it with a spacer. You cannot weld a spring and expect it to last any time at all.

    • @MikeBaxterABC
      @MikeBaxterABC Рік тому +1

      That's what I thought they were gong to do ... Toss the broken bit away ... grind a taper on the end so it's flat, then turn some old train track into a spacer :)

    Ancient wisdom says, you can't polish a turd. Welding tool steel is an old school oxy-acetylene welding Zen art that used to be done on small annealed pieces that were then hardened..
    The rest of this spring will remain hard but cracked the welded area will be soft & will just crack anyway as it won't have formed a eutectic weld with rest of the spring.

    I think the technical term for that repair is putting lipstick on a pig.

    That will work great, right up to the point where its re-used as a suspension and then it will just snap again. But don't worry a bit of black paint will cover all the defects.

    Just like most comments, this weld won't last very long at all. No matter how much welding ypu do to it,(excluding the poor weld on this spring) , the welded portion is much to brittle where a spring must be pliable to a certain amount. Sorry but thats my opinion. 11:01

      With Rupee at 290 per Dollar, they don't have to care. If it lasts a month, that's plenty. When it breaks, then weld it again. It's persistence.

    I dont usually have any negative to say about what folks do in that part of the world, most of the time its pretty interesting and gets the job done but i dont think welding a coil spring is gonna last. Im guessing it from some sort of shaker deck or maybe the track tensioner on a excavator? Anyways i hope it holds up and it all works out👍🏻
