He definitely sounds like a real one: no marketing BS, no condescension, no over-inflated ego, just a man who knows what he loves and knows exactly why he loves it.
I got BG3 in the early access era because I saw Swen doing a skit in some paladin armor. I had a thought, "He didn't get that armor for the sketch, he wrote the sketch as an excuse to wear the armor..." Sold!
Civilization (2, the one with the FMV drunken General), Starcraft, Dune, Heroes of Might and Magic 3... Sven is one of us. And that is easily felt in Divinity Original Sin (1 and 2) and Baldur's Gate 3. Such a precious gem.
I'd like to add that the most important thing that, to me, makes a "game" the best platform of enjoying content is that you are an active participant, not just a passive consumer of something that others have created. Movies, books, theater, music shows etc. all have things going for them, obviously, but only in actually participating and making decisions, you get to feel all the other things that passive listening or imagining does not produce. Plus, nowadays the music, visuals etc in games are done by absolute professionals in their craft, so it's a combined event of music, theater, writing .. and participating.
That last part about what makes games so special was so well put. So many different artforms coming together to give an interactive experience. Music, storytelling, graphic design, modelling, voice acting, all together. And you become part of it, intimately. What else in the world is like that?
Wow! Someone besides me remembers "Empire." I was 12 when Empire was released, it was one of my first PC strategy games and it was very fun. I most likely played it on the TRS-80. Thank you Sven for the call out to one of my faves and for making me feel a little less like an old man!.
So far, Larian is a company I'm excited about every release for. They really put the love into the games and it shows. I pray for a million good things for you and your team Swen. 👏
Good characters, good stories, depth, no terrible immersion-breaking MTX. Love Larian's games! Still a bit salty that I helped kickstart Divinity: Original Sin and I never got the metal RPG dice set they promised...
I only discovered old school CRPGs recently since I never had a PC growing up. I’m amazed that more games aren’t trying to recreate the world, depth, characters and writing that these old games had. BG3 feels like one of the only games that tries to do this.
Because it's very difficult to create that, compared to your cod. Watch Tim Cain (creater of fallout) talking about modern game development to understand how things have changed since the 90s
"Many regions we were planning to make" - Bro-Swen-man, pull a DLC two-towers, dam pull a director´s cut... We will play it. I swear, swen. We WILL PLAY IT.
no wonder he said ultima because whenever i play orignal sin or baldur's gate 3, especially bg3 i felt something ultima like in it. vibe or whatever you want to call it.
Really? I remember WoW as a huge timesink. In the 7 years I played, I invested quite some time into it. Before I quit, my /played time reached 2 years 3 months. Then a few years later, I returned and played another 5-6 months of ingame time, before I quit for good. So that is almost 3 years of ingame time. BG3 only hit about 600 hours for me. Not done with it though, it’s a title I will be playing a while yet. Doing a tactician playthrough with family members next, going to be a hoot. :)
Hmm I wonder if Larians new game (sic-fi, if rumours are true) will likely go back to action points with the XP gains and maybe include some strategy elements like they did with a previous Divinity game. Who knows I reckon Sven might even try to add some form of rogulike element in there or a mini game. They’ve never done that before, so….
The key to a great game. One person micromanaging everything, kojima, fromsoft, remedy, larian, Nintendo etc etc. One singular uncompromising vision. We are in the era of Bob Dylan's making games.
A Larian game can never be too big, I hope he decides to not cut anything next time. I don't mind if one single playthrough of a Larian game takes 2000 hours.
Not going to happen, not only because of all the listed, and they are working on new IP, but because they just don't want to work with implementation of DnD rules I think and constraints and complexities of adaptation that go with it DOS2 was already basically a game based on tabletop ruleset, I mean it literally is tabletop game as their product. I think constraints of DnD ruleset plus Hasbro/WoTC clownfiesta approach to their employees is things that made it over between Larian and WoTC. Why put yourself in the box of DnD rules when there are so many much more cooler systems out there, even developing your own.
He needs to speak a tad bit slower, he's like a hyper child lol. Also it's a shame they cut content cause the game was "to big" At that point you gotta put the planned content in! The fact that Upper City or whatever is just not even there is my biggest gripe. Some quests you just can't finish.
this man is a real gamer, perfect person to make BG3. Can see why its so good.
He definitely sounds like a real one: no marketing BS, no condescension, no over-inflated ego, just a man who knows what he loves and knows exactly why he loves it.
He has such great insight from his decades of experience as a gamer.
I got BG3 in the early access era because I saw Swen doing a skit in some paladin armor. I had a thought, "He didn't get that armor for the sketch, he wrote the sketch as an excuse to wear the armor..." Sold!
Games for gamers, by gamers. Larian feels like last bastion of of this principle
Yeah Larian and From Software have to be my favorite devs making games right now.
Remedy too.
Concernedape!
They're definitely a special company.
Supergiant Games!
Hopefully Larian keeps Swen's attitude towards games forever.
Considering he's the CEO, I'm sure they will
@@BoingBoingBang People age, companies get sold. But hope springs eternal.
Great games are born of passion. Sven is doing what he loves and it shows.
No microtransactions, no paid DLC, no always-online BS, ...
HE SO COOL. And he loves Morrigan, a man of taste.
You're a weeb, you wouldn't know what taste is even if it hit you in the face.
I so much agree with his view on why video games are so great, because for me it’s exactly the same. Such a joy to watch Swen talk about his passion!
BAFTA, thank you for adding screenshots of the games as Swen mentioned them. That helped a lot with getting a sense of the games I've never heard of.
OMG the Ultima series!! I played them all back in the day, didn't think anyone else even remembered that.
Swen Vincke is like the good multiverse version of Peter Molyneux
Civilization (2, the one with the FMV drunken General), Starcraft, Dune, Heroes of Might and Magic 3... Sven is one of us. And that is easily felt in Divinity Original Sin (1 and 2) and Baldur's Gate 3. Such a precious gem.
Seems like all the coolest people touched HOMM3 at one point in their life.

HoMM3 mention, hell yeah. Recently re purchased it and its still so good.
this guy is a legend, so wholesome, looking forward for Larian's next game
That last part about what makes games so special was so well put. So many different artforms coming together to give an interactive experience. Music, storytelling, graphic design, modelling, voice acting, all together. And you become part of it, intimately. What else in the world is like that?
I really cant wait what comes Next from Larian!
Ultima, Wow, Heroes of Might & Magic, Starcraft, Civ - holy shit, this guy is like me but better in every way. I approve!

One of my all time favorites games

Who was your favourite character in Baldur's Gate 3?
Astarion
Shart
My tav hahaha
Favourites were Karlach, Astarion, Jaheira, Auntie Ethel and Raphael
ASTARION!!!
Morrigan, a man of great taste
So awesome that Swen played a lot of WoW and SC2, two of my favorite games too!
Starcraft 2, such a good game
I really enjoy this person. One request: fans want Swen to provide some voice lines as Easter Egg for the next game. Love his voice and accent.
Good characters, good stories, depth, no terrible immersion-breaking MTX. Love Larian's games! Still a bit salty that I helped kickstart Divinity: Original Sin and I never got the metal RPG dice set they promised...
I am so thankful that I live in this timeline, where I could discover and witness the release and the success of BG3
First time i've seen an actual developer mention Heroes of Might and Magic 3 as a contender of their favorite game of all time, hell yeah!
Morrigan?? A man with great taste 👌🏾
Swen is so precious 🥰
He likes HoMM 3?
I can hear Slavs and especially Poles cheering
Jesus, the countless hours I spent with that game. The days I would go to work with only an hour or two of sleep.
I LOVE Baldur’s Gate 3!
I only discovered old school CRPGs recently since I never had a PC growing up. I’m amazed that more games aren’t trying to recreate the world, depth, characters and writing that these old games had. BG3 feels like one of the only games that tries to do this.

"You must gather your party before venturing forth."
We need... faun race for BG3! 🐐
Such a great person
We can keep this person safe if we keep supporting larians kickstarts/crowdfunds to start, fund, and finish their games.
"Many regions we were planning to make" - Bro-Swen-man, pull a DLC two-towers, dam pull a director´s cut... We will play it. I swear, swen. We WILL PLAY IT.

i just knew he is going to say homm3 lov u Swen
Next Larian Game maybe Rogue Like then?
nope
"The game I played the most was WoW or Star Craft 2" he's just like me for real.
Actually scratch that, the game I've played the most now is... BG3.

Adore this belgian bloke

Swen is just the definition of BASED 🗿
Holy shit, he's a dune 2000 player? Incredibly based
I played cauldron on the C64 when I was a kid. man that game was fun but hard as hell !!!
This is who I want to be when I grow up
I hope Larian re-create or do a sequel of Ultima, like what they did to Baldur's Gate.
I love you Swen
Larian for new Ultima Game!
A Larian game can never be too big, I hope he decides to not cut anything next time.
I don't mind if one single playthrough of a Larian game takes 2000 hours.
Ultima V + VI were the best in the series.
Maybe that removed second tower could be put back for the 10th anniversary edition of BG3 haha.
Cauldron!
Sven played SC2?! I must know his main race and his 1v1 rank
Well, well, what have we here?
Which U7 Swen? Black Isle or Serpent Gate? :D
What do you think he played in warcraft? I would wager gnome mage...
I hope he and Larian make more D&D games
They likely are not with how badly WOTC treated them.
They're likely to do another Divinity or a new IP
It’s over between Larian and WoTC.
@@alphasword5541 they said they are working on a new IP i think.

It's not the real Swen, no armor
That was not a juicy BG3 secret
Who owns rights to ultima?
EA
Madafaka EA, they bought Origin Systems back in 90s and forced Ultima 8 Pagan to be released in an unfinished state
@@DaoistYeashikAli yeah I was pondering if that could be their next game but probably not unless he bought rights from ea
They should release the other regions as DLC...
