The reason Metal Sonic's QTE doesn't kill you is because Metal Sonic moves in proportion to the player's speed and caps out at a certain number. Because of this, succeeding the Double Boost and failing it defeat Metal Sonic at the exact same time.

If you do the QTE you start the boost immediately, fail to do that and CH and Sonic will stumble before properly boosting.

As an added note: failing the QTE means that you didn't push the jump button *at all.* However, if you push jump *at any point* during the QTE you'll still pass as if you got a perfect, you'll just get less points. The only possible way to accidentally fail a QTE is to be looking away from the screen or to press the wrong button!

Double boosting happens whether or not you pass. The final boss even doesn’t even punish you if you fail. The final boss for crying out loud! It should at least make you retry or something if you don't get it.

Even when it doesn't kill you, clearing the QTE gives you points while failing either sends you to an sub-optimal route or, in the case of the Double/Triple Boost prompts, tacks on an extra time penalty while they're stumbling around.(On top of using a pared down version of Fist Bump, which makes the moment less cool.)

The double boost sections would also be boring. Because if you couldn't do double boost imagine going through that whole area just running. It's slower and not as good as listening to the song. However the triple boost prompt is a bit unreasonable.

The double boost ones are just unsightly to look at. The first one is funny, but in late game you should be expected to die if you mess up. The game makes sure you don't either way.
With that it surprises me that some QTEs do end up in certain death.
But what surprises even more is that they did add QTEs in the first place, it's 2017 for crying out loud

The one in Egg Gate at 0:38 looks like Sonic Team ran out of ideas and just stopped halfway through the level before finishing it. This stage is only about 2 minutes, even on your FIRST try, it really did need to be 2 minutes longer, of course with more fulfilling level design.
