Sadly, I am having to leave her behind. I’m actually in the process of moving house and she is too big and established to take with me. What a haircut!!! She is loving it for sure. It is such a wonderful plant and perfectly adapted. How wonderful they pick up different types of garbage. In Portugal we have comunity large seperate recipients which get picked up regularly but only for plastic, metal, glass and paper. When it comes to green stuff we have to take it to the town recycling center.
Aside from editing out all the times I tripped over the microphone chord, I also edited out my explanation of our 4 bin system here. We have 4 bins all the same shape but different coloured lids. Yellow is hard plastics, light green is good & garden. Purple is glass and dark green is rubbish for landfill. These are picked up kerbside. For metals and other types of materials we have to take them to the local recycling station or call for a “hard rubbish” pick up. You get 2 of those a year - where they’ll come collect whatever you can fit into a 3x3 meter area. That said, even though you can get fined for doing it… you can leave your unwanted stuff out on the nature strip anytime and within 48 hours, you’d bet your bottom dollar someone will have nabbed it - assuming it isn’t completely broken and useless. I love that about our culture 😁 I got a new ikea bookshelf thanks to a kerbside “donation” 🤣
As it happens I did! A lovely warm hot chocolate was a wonderful follow up. It wasn’t the most cold afternoon. I had some sun there. But it was still crisp!
I am impressed that no aerial roots have gone up the facade 😅 what a beautiful specimen 💯 you went after that and i could tell you loved every minute of it... I certainly did 👌🏼
I always love maintaining my plants. It’s fun! And very rewarding when you get to see the results of your work. I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know. In the years I’ve been here, the aerial roots have gone as high as the 3rd row of bricks. One has turned the corner and is making its way towards the door. That’s happened before and big girl will get a stern talking to, and a chop back of that root. Have a joyous evening, lovely lady 💚🌿💚
She is a beauty. My house one was huge and then thrips happened and the treatment almost killed her. Coming back now and I actually like her smaller size for ease in handeling. you did a great job with yours.
How cold does it get there in Australia. I’m in Washington DC area and starting to bring my potted split philo & monstra in the house. Can the be left outside in the winter.
Hi Immortal Bullyz. Great name 😊 Thanks for asking. In the Melbourne metro area we get as cold as 4°C. There maybe 1 or 2 nights in winter when it gets down to 1°c. Summer can get up to high 40°s (C) but typically stays under 45°c.
Have 2 about 10 times the size of this one outside the house. Required a chainsaw for the haircut and I was reminded of how toxic the sap is. Caution all, imagine poison ivy times 100 in severity but only for about 3 hours.
