I love you call it split leaf philodendron, i grew this at a nursery and we called it that. I had a hard time finding it because everyone call monstera d split lead philo. Thanks for video , lol u don't feel bad about chop my much smaller babies now. Yikes!!!
Great video. I learned that I can cut roots, split them, and protect wounds with cinnamon! I like the sign above the door "We may not have it all together, but together we have it all." ❤
I use a Sawzall on mine. I completely cut back all the leaves to about four inches, pot up, water well- then wait. They are incredibly resilient when they want to grow in the Spring.
Great job. Been doing it your way for 20 years.. There so resilient question. I’ve one That has its trunk straight up 20 inches from the soil and I’ve put 6 foot bamboo stakes around the base and wrapped the leaf branches together with twine holding all the branches upward so the leaves fan out. It’s really lovely, but it’s now the ceiling. I need to attempt air layering so I can drop the trunk down at least a foot and replant this beauty. Could you possibly direct me somewhere that specifies how to do this air layering on a split leaf? Unfortunately, I cannot raise the ceiling ! any help would be most welcome. Keep up the good work many thanks.
Great video! ❤ My husband bought this plant for my birthday in a 10-inch pot. We are waiting for its arrival from the grower. I wanted to watch how you separated it, in case I I have to separate it when it arrives.😊 You did a great job ❤ I don't know if I will be that courageous when the time comes for me to separate my plant. 😊❤
I broke a huge leaf accidentally on Tuesday. I planned on putting it in a vase, instead it sat in a water bottle. I knocked it over last night & realized it already has roots. I should have tried this years ago.
Great video.. So many new plants.. I love to split mine as well! Doing it your I didn't miss a single plant.. It is important not to cover the shoots.. and a soft soil so the roots can grow
It drives me crazy when people use common names for plants it causes a lot of confusion. Case in point this is not a split leaf philodendron. That is a common name. In some parts of the country a split leaf philodendron is a totally different plant. It would be better to call this a "tree philodendron"
Water as normal. Let dry out in between waterings. Give it full sun. Don't worry about those leaves falling off as the new ones will come out healthy. It took mine many months to grow new and lost most of the old leaves. Now it is taking off. Give it time. Best of luck
A friend gave me a root bulb with 2 small leaves..it took awhile for it to grow but 5yrs later...its massive!! ❤❤❤ great video

Beautiful video! I have this plant but I am going to plant mine outdoors next Spring.
Thanks for emboldening (?) a fellow gardener. Any updates on the baby plants?
So informative. Thankyou. I have one about 6 feet, will follow your advice. Hoping for success, happy day.

Wow….I am just contemplating cutting off several shoots for new plants. You give me courage.
I am doing an update this week to show the progress. I think you will like the results!
I broke a huge leaf accidentally on Tuesday. I planned on putting it in a vase, instead it sat in a water bottle. I knocked it over last night & realized it already has roots.
I should have tried this years ago.
I have one that has been in the same pot and dirt for 35 years. Getting ready to do this.
If you use a common hand held wood saw it will be a lot easier to cut through the roots.

I do need to do an update as the are looking wonderful
what kind of soil should I use to repot? I only have cactus soil. Is that ok
Any updates?
what soil mix did you use please
It may have been easier to cut through it if you had used a sharp blade. I thought I was rough on my plants but geez😮...
Cut top to bottom?
Wow. Ain't plants amazin?!?!

What about the bottom tip?
I am sorry but what about the bottom tip?
IF ONLY YOU LET THE WEIGHT OF THE PLANT WORK FOR YOU AND HUNG IT OVER THE EDGE
Just cut mine up…but the babies all have very sagged floppy leaves which won’t stand up. Help

I also just did an update if you want to see how they are doing now!
You could cut off the old leaves entirely and the plant will recover just fine. Plants are incredible.
😳🥺😬👍👏
Dirt is what you drag onto the kitchen floor off of your shoes. Soil is what you grow in!
