    I GO CRAZY spent 40 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. It peaked at # 7 in 1978. Paul was a very talented singer and songwriter who left us way too soon on April 22, 2008, he was 60. Other hits by Paul were, 65 LOVE AFFAIR, one of my favorites and quite an upbeat song, COOL NIGHT and SWEET LIFE.

    • @dougclark7077
      @dougclark7077 2 роки тому +17

      Al,
      Those 40 weeks were a record at the time for longest run in the Hot 100. It slowly climbed the chart and hit its peak after more than 6 months.
      Fun fact: He wrote this song with Lou Rawls in mind to record it. But after the record label heard the demo he had recorded, it was so impressed that they decided to release it with minimal editing. Lou Rawls later did record a version, but it did nowhere near as well as Davis's.

    This man had an incredible voice! The looks did not go with his sound. Paul did look like an Allman Brother. His vocals absolutely hypnotized me as a child, because it was so smooth it was so perfectly pitched. I still listen to a lot of his songs today and I miss his gental spirit.

    Back in 1981, when I was 13-years old, I called the most popular AM radio station in my city and requested they play this song. I'll never forget the DJ's response. He scoffed at the idea of playing a song called "I Go Crazy" and seemed to imply that the song title alone was too negative to play over the airwaves. I never forgave him for that.

    The man introducing Paul Davis is the very famous Rick[y] Nelson. I just read where it took this song 6-7 months, starting in Aug of 1977, to climb the charts to #7 in late March early April 1978. This is a real buzz for me, it was constantly on the radio when I was in college.

    So glad y'all found this. Paul Davis was a talented songwriter, blending soul with country in songs for artists like Juice Newton & Tanya Tucker, who had some success in the late 70's/early 80's as a singer also. I would suggest you also check out his songs "Sweet Life", "Cool Night", "65 Love Affair", "Love Me or Let Me Be Lonely" & "Do Right" (with showcases his gospel influences).

He got out of his car first and then we almost bumped right into each other. He was excited to see me and I had to tell him I was married with 2 little ones. Hes like, already? Well he didn't take our relationship very seriously. When I met my new boyfriend I kind of just accepted that he wasn't interested in pursuing our relationship. Too late. I think of someone specifically when I hear this song. There is a certain part of the piano melody that has a deep tone that lifts upward after the verses and into the pre-chorus segment. Just an iconic moment.

    The guy who said Paul Davis looked like an Allman Brother was Rick Nelson, who started on his parents' TV show in the 50s (The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet) and went on to become a pop singer. A decade later he had a song called "Garden Party" about how he wanted to play his new music but all anyone wanted to hear was his old stuff from when he was a teenager.

    Yes, We Love You both too. And you are completely correct. Make a point everyday, to make someone smile. There are a lot of people that do reaction videos, but to me, You both are the Best. I watch your videos every day! So far my favorite Reaction you have done is The Tom Tom Club Genius Of Love. That was the best dance song of 1981, I believe

    Wow I knew this song but I never heard of Paul Davis. I learned something from you two. That's really great. FYI, I heard it through the grapevine that the Who is playing on the original site of Woodstock at a venue now called Bethel Woods Performing Arts Center. I used to live 4 MI from there. It's a great place to see a concert and you can actually see what old people like me according to my grandkids experienced when we went to an outdoor concert. They have a whole museum dedicated to Woodstock. It's up in Sullivan county New York which is in the Catskills in the town of Bethel which is so tiny that we normally have four constables. I missed them once, when tickets were sold out. My sister who was about 13 won two tickets. This is when Keith Moon was still alive. I know how much you love the drums. Keep rocking guys I watch you all the time from Florida.

      We have a summer bungalow in Monticello in the Catskills (one of the few non-religious ones left). Anyway, my wife and I went to the Woodstock museum last summer and I totally recommend it.

    The person who introduced Paul Davis was Ricky Nelson. America watched Ricky grow up as he was on a sit-com called "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet". Ozzie Nelson was his father, Harriet was his mother and his older brother, David, was also on the show. It was typical of the era, with the boys usually getting into something. Even though he was older than me by 15 years, through the magic of reruns I watched him grow up, too. So, he was an actor from the age of 8 and started recording when he was around 17. This made a nice story line for the tv show. Of course, it didn't hurt that he was drop-dead gorgeous and had a voice as smooth as honey. One of his first songs was, "Travelin' Man" and I think his last might have been "Garden Party". He did a cover of "I Will Follow You" and his voice was unbelievable. He was killed in a plane crash in 1985.

    The person who introduced Paul Davis (who said "he looks like an Allman Brother"), was Rick Nelson. He came to fame as in a TV sitcom called The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet. It starred Ozzie Nelson and his real-life wife Harriet Nelson, and their two real-life sons, David and Ricky Nelson. Ricky became a teen idol, and launched a music career while the show was still on the air. He had several #1 hits and lots of others that didn't make it to #3. Travelin' Man may be his most well-known from his early years. He is also well-known for his song "Garden Party" which is famous for the many references it contains to musicians and performers who were present at on of Nelson's concerts at Madison Square Garden in 1971 (thus the name "Garden Party). Interesting song. Nelson also acted in a number of films. He had 4 kids, 2 of whom formed a music group called "Nelson" who had a #1 hit called "(Can't Live Without Your) Love and Affection, in 1990. Rick's daughter, Tracy, is a successful actress. Rick died in a plane crash in 1985 at the age of 45.
