It's the end of 2023, so I don't know if there were some changes to firmware for ALP, but these instructions do not work for me as far as getting the games to run. I get a "loading..." message then it kicks me back out to the AddOn screen with my games boxes listed. I figured maybe one ROM was no good, but I tried with 6 different games. What am I doing wrong?
Hello, I followed your Tutorial on the MAME Arcade Games. when I added it to my ALP machine it shows the art work, it's only when I try to download the game, it doesn't upload. it seem to try but then goes back to the art work. Can you help? thank you, mike
Hello, first of all very good video to get great games to play again on this system. Question so i got them to work just fine until an update, now they just says loading then goes back to the lists of roms. Please help i tried reformatting and pasting them in but no luck. thanks
It's honestly been awhile, if I recall correctly it is possible but I think I had to map the 2p start button on the connected controller. The ALP isn't the best machine for 2p gaming, for that you may want to look at the Legends Ultimate.
This video is a little old, today I combined both the Flash Drive X partition and CoinOpsX on a single USB drive and install CoinOpsX. For more info on how to do that, please see this: wagnerstechtalk.com/al-coinopsx

How well do landscape aspect MAME games work on the vertical display? I have been trying to find examples on these to decide if upgrading the controller panel will be worth it.
Landscape games will play, but they will be in the center of the screen. You can briefly see a horizontal game being played here: ua-cam.com/video/SrjGXAvLtnA/v-deo.html
When I go to BYOG/AddOn/ all the games I build per your instructions show up on the screen. Reason is, the FX3 JoyToKey profile makes it super easy, no configuration in FX3 for button mapping. However, for Baller Installer, you will have to re-map two buttons (for nudge) within FX3. It's all explained above. Hope it helps you get there faster!
@@WagnersTechTalk The good news is, I got coinops working. The bad news is that after installing the VIBS,my ALP wouldn't boot up. The legends pinball lit above the back box, but no boot. Maybe I'm just not ready for prime time :) Any ideas. Jon? I watched Kong's/BDubs video on positioning of ribbon cables on new production model and that may be the answer.
It's probably because you might not have caught the Addendum video here: wagnerstechtalk.com/alp/#Video_Installation There was a mistake in the first video that was corrected in the Addendum. Likely the cause of the problem and yep that was mentioned by Bee&PDubs also, actually I think they identified it as an issue first.

Thanks for the video, Do you have to map the buttons every time you play a MAME game on ALP or just the first time you play each game ? Maybe a stupid question but figured I’d ask.
Definitely not a stupid question, sorry if I didn't explain that well. You only have to configure the buttons once for each game and the mappings will be saved to the .UCE file (won't have to re-map the next time you play the game). Hope this helps!

Hi Jeffrey, this video was to show how to package the games so they can be played via the AddOn option. I'll be doing more with bezels / coinopsx in upcoming videos.
The cores themselves are packaged into the .UCE file itself. Only one core may be associated with the game so it's not like in RetroPie where you can change the core easily. You basically have to rebuild the .UCE file to change the core.
I did this and it worked! Thanks for the video. Question-- If later I got a At Games arcade machine (not pinball) would it work to just plug the USB stick into the extra slot and pull up in 'add on' ?
Hi Mathew, yes it would work on any Legends Device. I also have a video and guide here for CoinOpsX which is great for vertical games: wagnerstechtalk.com/al-coinopsxv . For arcade (horizontal), may want to use this guide wagnerstechtalk.com/al-coinopsx . Basically, these are the "bulk upload" methods as they have a bunch of games.
Good video Wagner. I’m glad you made the point that the “fill” is not the correct aspect and it’s stretched which isn’t right. One of the key things from my wallcade build was the fact that I made those custom bezels for the vertical games so they could stay in the correct aspect and not have the black borders. Also , you can play horizontal games too on that screen as well , it’s just a small display area. Lastly , I’m not sure if you noticed , but that Mame core does not support sample wav audio sound bytes that are missing from mame2003 games like Galaga, DK , space invaders , Etc. Did you hear the ship Crash in Galaga when you died? When I did my UCE I had to used a special core and add the sample wav files for Those games.
Thank you Rex, I really appreciate your reply! I did mention the sample issue here: wagnerstechtalk.com/alp/#Bring_your_own_Games_BYOG I tried a number of things, including adding the .wav files to the archive before packaging and it didn't work. What core worked for you, do you recall? I'll test it here too and update the guide. Thanks again! ps. If you want, you can e-mail me at wagnerstechtalk@gmail.com if it's easier.
@@WagnersTechTalk I’ll send you the core. I actually got the core from Glen . It was mame2003samplesupport or something like that. It was not a verified core from Atgames though. I asked Atgames to provide some other Mame cores that are tested and approved to use with the Legends but they didn’t have anything other than the one mame2003 they support. I was going to try to load some Libretro and other Mame cores from the pi but I don’t know if they would have worked and I didn’t want to waste the time.
You basically have to create a .csv (comma-separated file) in the format described here: github.com/FalkensMaze1983/ultimate_addon/tree/master/AddOn_tool

Seems the update has eliminated this ability. Makes this video and website mute and out of date. Hopefully ATL will bring it back but doubtful. With popularity come greed. Ask Sony and Microsoft, all thier games require subscription
I kept my Zaccaria tables on a 256GB stick and put these games (MAME 2003/.uce) on a 2nd 32GB FAT32 USB stick. That way, I could easily tinker/add games without removing the Zaccaria games and having to mount/unmount it. You can see that in my 1st Legends Pinball video.
Neat! I just got my game today. I never knew using roms was an option. I just assumed the arcade games were pay to play.
Yes, you can add additional games another way is via CoinOpsX. You may find this interesting as well: wagnerstechtalk.com/al-coinopsx/
Awesome, thank you Sir! I asked AtGames as well and came up with the same.
@@WagnersTechTalk So, for now, it's best just to go without those sounds?
Great job!
Thank you PDubs! For anyone reading this, please see PDubs review of the ALP here: wagnerstechtalk.com/alp/#More_ALP_Reviews
Does it save the high scores when changing from one game to another
Until a few firmware releases ago it used to, not today though.
@@WagnersTechTalk well that sucks. Would be hard to fix for them. It would just save a text file before closing app.
How do you use the batch create in the tool
You basically have to create a .csv (comma-separated file) in the format described here: github.com/FalkensMaze1983/ultimate_addon/tree/master/AddOn_tool
I can get all to work except Donkey Kong. How do you add credits for that game?
Sorry it took me a little bit to get back to you. Try pressing down on the controller and Start at the same time to insert a credit. I tried it with DK (using CoinOpsX) and it worked. There is a great video by PDubs on how to setup CoinOpsX here: wagnerstechtalk.com/alp/#Tutorials
@@WagnersTechTalk thanks it worked! start and down on joystick did it.
@@EdStaniszewski Awesome, I added a Troubleshooting section to the MAME guide to help others (or if I forget) lol wagnerstechtalk.com/alpmame/#Troubleshooting
I used this process last year and have been using .uce files on a thumb drive since. They stopped working after the tablea last update. Anyone else have this issue?
I followed the directions and the games would say loading, but then wouldn't play :-(
Last time I used this tool was some time ago, it worked fine at the time. I now use CoinOpsX (Vertical) on the ALP. You may be interested in this as well: wagnerstechtalk.com/al-coinopsxv
@@WagnersTechTalk Thanks my issue was matching the proper core
Same problem
Am I the only one confused as to how you "download" the mame file but instead save it to the computer. That doesn't download it just save the zip as a 1kb file.
This was awesome until AtGames updated my unit to 5.70 firmware. Now none of my games work. Anyone know how to make this work with the new firmware?
Same . . . came here looking for answers.
Seems the update has eliminated this ability. Makes this video and website mute and out of date. Hopefully ATL will bring it back but doubtful. With popularity come greed. Ask Sony and Microsoft, all thier games require subscription
When you have Zarcaria Pinball tablles on Jumpdrive, AddOn X Games, and CoinOPS X Games, you gonna need at least 128 gig to be safe.
More info here: wagnerstechtalk.com/alp Hope that helps.
I thought you were going to add pinball tables.
No, this is an older video for Arcade (MAME) games. If interested in that, I'd recommend the WOPR/w Cheese Vertical CoinOpsX build. If you're interested in connecting a PC/Steam Deck to your ALP, you can find guides on all of that here: wagnerstechtalk.com/guides/#AtGames
I TRIED USING THE LINK ON YOUR SITE TO GET IMAGE FILES BUT I GOT 404'D sorry caps lock was on :D
See my guide for coinopsx, think you'll like it better.
Wow looks forking painful, Just connect a PC and done!
It can be, I don't disagree. However, you may find this method more to your liking: wagnerstechtalk.com/al-coinopsxv
