  • Disarming our Hearts: Guidance from the Bodhisattva Path, Part 1 - Tara Brach
If we realized how profoundly our chronic judgment creates separation and blocks the flow of love, we’d dedicate more deeply to disarming our hearts. Drawing on practices from the Bodhisattva path, these two talks explore the process of disarming-bridging divides with those close in, and opening our hearts to those at a distance who we consider a ‘bad other” or enemy. As we cultivate the capacity for true disarming, we experience a growing sense of belonging, Oneness and the freedom of an awakened heart.

i was "disowned" by my father because I got a divorce - he didn't speak to me for two years. I traveled to my home town to visit my grandparents and my mother. Mother told me that Dad would like to see me, perhaps I might make enchiladas for dinner. I did, he came in and said, "I like your hair cut." We had a meal together, then he went out to practice night landing in his small plane, with my 14-year-old brother. They crashed into a corn field and he died. Thankfully he died with a forgiving heart.

With this new growing awareness my heart recognizes the division I create with judgement or stories allowing me to pause, sit with it & open to forgiveness, love & compassion. The expansion of this new realm grows with each beat of my heart opening my eyes & my world. Thank you ✨💜

I struggle so much with these concepts. How can we open our hearts and be loving with people that mean to harm us and cause suffering. The intentional kind of harm. I grok how forgiveness can work, but doesn’t there have to a modicum of trust to renegotiate painful relationships?
