Santos de Cartier or Cartier Santos Dumont? Unnecessary over dissection of Cartier Watches.

- Cartier fan girl is here to do an unnecessary dissection of the Santos de Cartier VS the Cartier Santos Dumont. Which is BEST?
To me, the clear winner was the Santos de Cartier. Bracelet, better specifications, mechanical. Easy choice, right? Yes, and no. Because it was the Dumont that I went home thinking about and I couldn't get off my mind! Everything about the wearing experience of the Santos Dumont suited me more than the Santos de Cartier. WEIRD RIGHT?! Isn't it weird when a watch does that.
But I might be having second thoughts. I kinda can't stop thinking about the Santos de Cartier again.
This video is me unnecessarily over thinking my choice about the Dumont and weighing the pros and cons of both of these watches.
Every watch geek who has to decide between two watches, ends up getting both at one point. That's like a natural law.
Hahaha it is tooo true!
I had never considered this before, but you’re absolutely right😆🤦♂️
Great comment!
“Nothing is certain except death and taxes” and I’m adding Medici’s comment to that.
so true - and never tell your wife
Might as well just accept it & get it over with all at once!
Love that someone gives the Dumont some attention on UA-cam! There is so much hype around the Santos (justified as well) but the Dumont basically never gets mentioned. I think for me the silver sunburst dial and how slim it is make it really stand out. I was intending to get the Santos at first too but when I tried the Dumont it just felt incredible on the wrist.
I love how unassuming and subtle it is.
stop it I want it to stay secret Im saving up
I also started the idea of buying Santos de Cartier and end up with Santos Dumont XL. Superhappy
Ahhh it's soooo good!!! Full steel?! :O
Thanks, Britt. I enjoyed that. I bought a Santos de Cartier large grey back in February and could not be happier. Not long after, I went back to my AD and bought a Tank Must XL. In short, I find Cartier watches are incredibly sharp and versatile. IMHO,…no other brand comes close to Cartier. Forget supply and demand, market share, etc., etc., Cartier stands alone in so many ways.
Personally I'm lusting after the large, gray dial Santos with the DLC bezel. I think that really tones down the bling factor and avoids the scratch issues that plague the polished steel bezel. It also comes with a rubber strap if you want to tone it down even more and gain a bit more everyday usability. Plus you get the added benefit of lume on the Roman numeral indices. I never even considered it til I tried one on and now I'm obsessed by it.
This morning I woke up thinking, “today I’m wearing my Santos”. Then I look at my phone and this video was up.. It’s so perfect it makes my tummy hurt 🤪 I have Rolex and Omegas and on and on, but my Cartier is my favorite. LOVED this show!! Thank you Britt for always being on point :))
I sooo relate! I’ve got lots of amazing watches - but there’s sometjing about my Cartier that keeps me choosing it! 🙈💕
I couldn’t agree more with literally everything you said! I went to the AD to get a De Cartier, and came home with the Dumont. I’m obsessed.
When I think of Cartier, I think of being classy. Somehow the square bezel of the original design speak to me more, I believe you have made the right decision with the Santos Dumont 🎉
Being a watch geek, I must say that I appreciate your use of watch props. Just as watches can be seen as antiquated technology since the use of cell phones and smart watches became so popular, books and printed advertisements seem to have fallen from grace in the same way. I personally love the tactile nature of real objects in hand. The feel and sound of watches, the smell of a leather strap, the weight and presence of a book and the feel of paper in hand adds to the reality of the art and essence that allows you to feel the emotion of what you desire and adds to the appreciation for what you have in hand. It changes the abstract to reality through touch. Seeing something on a screen is not the same as having it in hand. I appreciate the quality of your videos and how you present the story of each watch you discuss. Keep up the good work!
Very well said
Nice video. I really do like the Santos Medium BUT it is far too shiny and by far the biggest scratch magnet I've ever worn😮.......9:41 Look how small JFK's watch is.
Britt ive just tried both. I'm telling you guys, try the dumont and forget the santos. I tried it on with a blue alligator strap and omg i cant stop thinking about it. I will get it I dont care if its overpriced or whatever it is just a piece of art, so beautiful
I'll be getting my Decartier M yellow gold tomorrow and I'm super excited, just in time for this video in my subscription list
Whaaaat!!! :O BIGGEST CONGRATS EVER! omg!! You have to let me know how it feels on the wrist! Absolutely love it!
The fact that I’m having this exact dilemma for the past couple of months made this video really hit the spot. No other UA-camr has ever made a comparison video of these 2, trust me I’ve tried searching.
And I'm afraid mine isn't all that helpful. ;) My video concludes: I WANT BOTH lol! But it's insane there isn't another comparison video out there! :O
Just wear them both and you'll know.
Exactly what happened to me too! Been trying on the Santos de Cartier numerous times, but in the end the Santos Dumont XL tugged at the heart (and the wrist!) and I eventually went home with it.
Right?!?! The Santos Dumont is a grower not a show-er! 😜🙈
Fantastic video. I found myself in the very same place...and ended up with the Santos Dumont which looks great !!! as a Brazilian this and watch lover is just a perfect.
Now visit the Santos Dumont house with the weird steps. Maybe there is a museum as well in Brasil somewhere 😊.
Hi Britt,
Thanks for the great video.
Yes, completely agree. I tried on both and loved both (medium no date that is), but if I were to purchase one today, it would be the Dumont. However, I decided not to purchase it this time. As it is summer and I do not have any waterproof watches, I have decided to buy a used Panerai Luminor, ref 0333 on the bracelet. In the future, I will either buy the Dumont or a reverso.
Thanks again for your great content.
I went to my Cartier AD this past week to buy either the Santos de Cartier or the Santos Dumont, I left with a large Tank Must. Yes, I was surprised as well. The Santos pieces are incredible but while trying them on I realized that I'm burnt out on steel sports watches. Am I alone on that? Anyway, maybe I would have purchased one if I was just starting my collection but the last thing I need in my collection is another steel sports watch. When I tried on the Tank, it was instant love. The dimensions, design and that dial...man, that dial. It's just a lovely piece. It can also be easily dressed up or down with a quick strap change. And for $2600 (my AD gave me a little discount), it's a decent value. I even said to my AD, what else would you recommend for a dressier watch around this price point. We walked around the entire store and didn't find a single piece. The Santos range is nice, but don't overlook the Tank.
Only 3 weeks ago Britt, I went to my so called local AD, here in Melbourne, Australia to pick up a Tudor 1926, with Opaline dial. The big mistake was taking my 24 year old daughter who is somewhat OBSESSED with Cartier. After I bought the Tudor, the salesman was kind enough to indulge said daughter with trying some 8-12 different Cartiers! Brandy was already spending her inheritance.🤣 In between I tried the Santos with a steel blue dial! It was stunning!😍🤤 P.s. I’m not telling, my girl!🤫😉
Great video as always! I chose the Santos Galbee XL 2823 with the 4:30 date window. The bracelet style sealed the deal for me. Surprisingly I like how they integrated the date
OUUUU I am so dang tempted by the galbee. I spend a LOT of time looking at these on Chrono 24!
I think you made the right choice. I love a fancy watch on leather.
It's very refreshing to have a watch channel that consistently features watches that aren't dive watches. And yes, sports watches don't require 1000m of water resistance and a timing bezel. It's also surprising how most of us can get by with 30m of water resistance. My daily is 7mm thick, highly polished and after 5 years of office wear has zero scratches -- why would I need something designed for spelunking on my wrist? I'm very happy to be in the (apparent) minority. Love Cartier too, so your videos are proving way too tempting...
Oh my goodness! We are two peas in a pod! I couldn’t agree more! People reaalllllly think they need more from a daily wear than they actually do! 😂🙈 Look. You don’t need 300m water resistance to get you through your day selling insurance & driving your kids to soccer practice. 😜 I wear my Santos as my daily wear, and it truly meets all of my needs! I even wear it cycling most days! 😂🙈 and it is fine!
Absolutely right! Tell me ONE diver that uses an mechanical watch to dive!!! Diving lower than 30-40m is VERY rare and requires a lot of top end equipment to calculate depth, decompression, oxygen levels etc… Nowadays mechanical watches are to tell the time! Anything else there are a better quartz watch
BTW love the colours/backgrounds in this video, progression from video to video is great! Also grateful for all the wrist shots. People forget to put those in lol
Santos de Cartier for me…I’m a bracelet guy, and a little biased…The Santos Dumont looks perfect on your wrist.
Just scoured some sites for a vintage watch and then you popped up in your Seattle sports cap. These Cartiers have always been on the back burner. Thanks to your stylish and knowledgeable presentation I have now put your conversation on the front burner….ah what to do with those vintage choices now? Like you said there are always a place for both. So he says while scanning his PayPal 6 month plan
LOLL! Oh this comment really made me happy! Thank you sooo so much! I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed this video! 😱💕 ok. As for vintage Cartier…. It was the vintage pieces that got me into the Santos in the first place! And THATS exactly what I want next! A full yellow gold Santos Galbee 29mm! I just think they are pure magic. 🙈💕✨ but 29mm is the edge of how small I’d go for me!
I decided for the large santos Dumont. I think it’s more refined and minimalist, I love its so light. And also it is more versatile. Totally dressy and totally informal.
I love both too, but you made the right choice, as I think that the Dumont really suits your style. The combination of the gold bezel, blued hands and black strap just work together in such perfect harmony. "Hair not working"?!? PLEASE! Girl, those curls are flowing like a waterfall...you're trying to bring Farrah Fawcett back! Between the hair, style & beauty, I'm getting big time Lily James vibes. Cool video, congrats on the Cartier!
Whaaaat! This comment absolutely made my day! Thank you sooo much! Me being referred to in the same sentence as FARRAH FAWCETT IS THE HIGHEST HONOUR!!! And you know, funny enough, when Emily in Paris first aired a lot of people told me I look like Lily James! I think it is the big eye brows!
😂😂 wrong Lily BP 😘
I've found the wording in your latest videos outstanding, striking a chord in me.
I have the large Santos de Cartier in SS, white dial. I wear it as a "dress" watch (with 7.6 in. wrists it fits me like a 36-38 on average wrists). I like it so much I'm thinking of getting the black or blue PVD version as a daily wearer. My daily watch now is the SD43 MKII...sometimes a bit big for long sleeve cuffs. 1st world problems...I know...PS: always enjoy your videos.
The same happened to me. When I tried Santos Cartier with the smart link , I didn’t like that much, and ended up buying the Santos 100 medium size. Love it
I know where you're coming from, I've also got a Cartier itch that I need to scratch. It started with the Tank MC which I absolutely adore but in recent times my gaze has started to shift to the Santos Dumont 2651 in white gold, I really do love its simple pared-back design, it's absolutely lush.
No No.. I feel the Dumont I a better looking watch and probably the one id like to wear more. Or instead maybe I might go for a vintage Santos instead. Quartz or not is fine either way.
The Dumont is just pure class on the wrist!
The Cartier Santos Dumont is just pure ethereal beauty & the Tank an everlasting true classic. When I think of Cartier I think of these 2 designs. The 2 to own.......
The Dumont makes the Tank look like a toy.
@@lamentate07Couldn't disagree more. Besides that there are many versions of the Tank each incredibly unique in design. Santos and Tank, the two most iconic Cartier watches i.m.o.
You should buy them both and you will not regret it.
I own a Cartier tank must model large!!! And I love it! Between the Santos and the Dumont I really like the Dumont same size like the one you have! So classy! Keep up the good work Britt, hugs from Italy 🇮🇹
I love the Santos! It’s a total horological icon! They’re out of my price range unfortunately but theoretically speaking I’d go de Cartier over Dumont just because I’m a bracelet type person so it kind of makes the decision for me 😂 Totally could see justifying having both in a collection though!
Right?!! They are absolutely a horological icon! It's just sooo dang cool!
Cartier santos de cartier all the way for me but would ideally like to have both. Great vid 😀🤙
OMG. I’m starting to like this watch. Thanks Britt
Ahhh it’s a charmer! No no no, thank YOU! 💕✨
Quality of the video was spectacular even by your standards. Love the use of loupes and lens adaptors as background. Content - well, I bought a medium Santos this year so I’m biased. Need to go to “strap lab” soon - British racing Green shiny alligator square scale I think …
I'm currently deciding which one i want to get. I love the Dumont for the more dressier look, but the Santos de Cartier still has its own place. I'll probably get both . But for my current collection, it lacks a dressier watch. But still i want to go to a boutique and try both, to make the final decision.
The Santos Dumont is easily the most attractive Cartier. Elegant. Stylish. Understated. With the polished silver color bezel. Price? It’s a personal statement. A dressy accessory. As long as your family isn’t starving to pay for it, buy what you like. [So now we know. Watch-Papi is actually Dish-Papi. 🤣🤣🤣] Hats? You look cute in a hat. Might I suggest the hat Ingrid Bergman wore at the Airport in Casablanca. Great video! This is my favorite watch channel!
You’re sooo right! It is a personal statement! Not for everybody. But definitely for me! 😱💕
As for the hat. Now… a lot of watch fam doesn’t know this because I don’t typically wear hats filming….. I am a huge hat lover!!! I wear a baker boy very regularly! Berets! Baseball caps. Fedora. Trilby. I love a hat!
@@BrittPearceWatches Awesome! I have hats too. A Stetson I bought in 1978. Two Fedoras including an Indiana Jones fur felt fedora. A Panama straw. Love hats! I think you should wear a hat in a video now and then. Maybe a location shot with Watch Papi. ❤️🕵️♂️
I know it’s changing the subject but I just bought a Bulgari solotempo 35 mm on bracelet. The most minimalist version, with silver white dial, only one bulgari logo Below the 12. Also has no logo endlinks. I have to say the quality is absolutely high. I feel it is in the same league as a quartz cartier. I have the quartz large santos dumont and they look at the same level. A treasure for the person who likes this watch as i do.
Anyone can do a black leather strap. But the Santos bracelet design is totally "it."
Man... hard choice! I'm watching this video cause I was going to chose the Dumont. After all I have no quartz in my collection yet.... but...
The SDC bezel is a scratch magnet - some people can handle it some people cannot. It;'s really weird though that, if you are in the light you can see the marks, if you move to the shade they kind of disappear! Real weird.
After selling my Hulk the SDC scratches my bracelet itch - I have a Pelagos LHD but the rubber strap is SO GOOD I might never put it on the bracelet again. Yes the Pelagos bracelet is great however on the springy bit it can be a bit too huggy in an oppressively loving way.
I suppose the SDC bracelet does not have micro adjustments because of the butterfly clasp (that's what it's called right). I can compromise for the beauty of it but in the summer when my wrist goes phat I would prefer a micro adjust! SDC on the leather is a different look to a tank - in what way I'm not sure yet as I've worn it on the leather once. I bought all my Cartiers in selfridges and because they have a no exotic leather policy Cartier can only give you leather straps in calf skin, mostly smooth (not all though). So you don't get croc straps there for example. They're doing a green croc strap for my SDC though (the bond st branch), once that comes I'll give it more of a go. Gold bracelet is great but sometimes too much!
I'm surprised that laquered gold Cartier Santos is available on the website, I'm going to see if I can inspect on IRL :o
I personally think the current Santos de Cartier wears too large hence why I bought a Galbee XL last week. I’m still convinced I made the right decision.
I obsessed over both these watches, eventually tried both on in store and neither suited my small wrist 😢 Desperate to still have a Cartier having sold a vintage Tag and a newer Nomos, I decided a Ballon Bleu would be my goal but couldn’t shake the feeling I was settling, and that it was a bit too Kate Middleton-y 🤷♀️ Then I found the older Santos Galbée and recently bought a beautifully maintained one with the guilloche dial and date. For me it’s absolute perfection and the best possible compromise style and spend wise 😊
Congrats on your watch! I have a small wrist too, would you mind sharing what size you ended up getting? Many thanks.
I like that your videos are getting more and more professional! The quality and quantity of your videos both have gone up
OH thank you so so much! I really am trying to get a little bit better with every video!
Oh god .. now I'm looking too much closer at the Santos de Cartier! Great job Brit
Brittany a few months back bought a Santos de Cartier black ADLC large. Live it, lune is great their rubber strap is comfortable. It also comes with a black alligator strap. All quick release. It is both sports and with the alligator strap and black or grey suit will wear as a dress watch. 100m water resistant.
Wow, lots of good points in this video. I owned the 41mm Octo Solotempo and man that thing wore BIG, sold it because of that. I agree about how important a good quality bracelet is. I want bracelets with tight tolerances that have a satisfying snap when they close. I've recently been investing in good quality bracelets for a few of my watches that didn't come with good ones (mostly vintage). I own the Santos-Dumont in XL, the salmon dial LE from last year. While I've got a bunch of divers I really only feel the need for one dress watch and the Santos-Dumont really checks that box for me!
I think it would be the medium Santos de Cartier for me! You’re spot-on about bracelets…they should be just as well-made as the watch & not skimped on. Also, it’s absurd to not have some form of micro-adjustments.
In this day and age… NO MICRO ADJUST?! On a watch that costs thousands?! Other than that, they have made such a robust bracelet.
Britt, you are so right about the Octofinissimo. I tried two of them on at the Bvlgari store and they just didn't look right. I appreciate them so much for making something different and astetheically pleasing but it just didn't look right on my wrist.
Hey i was just finishing your Dumont video from months ago. Time to watch this one
Haha no way! Fancy that timing’
When I saw the Santos, I fell in love. Will get one one day. Maybe the blue one, who knows. And I did not know, the Santos Dumont is a different model 😮. It's pretty too but more dressy, so less of my style.
I went into the store and saw both of these just yesterday. I didn't even knew the Dumont existed. I liked the Dumont better. I left there knowing if I do by a carrier it will be the Dumont
Right?! There's something about seeing the Dumont in person that just makes it come to life!!
The 2 tone is so much warmer and the black band is a better fit imo :)
You are looking good in that cap, Britt! My choice in Cartier is always going to be the Tank.
Mrs and I got ourselves the same combination (She has the Dumont (small) and I the 2 tone medium Santos). Like you say hers leans more dressy and truly elevates anything she wears, and mine is a scratch magnet. At first it really bothered me how easily it scratches, but it grows on me. The gold bezel sometimes catches the light in a way makes the scratches invisible and it becomes this buttery glow which I find myself hypnotised by.
Thank you for my continued education on the Carter line , so love the Santos , but I’m waiting patiently for a Pepsi first in my ongoing collection
Great video.Dumont actually wears bigger & loving it
i love the dumont as a dress watch (and whatever else our rebellious and irreverent hearts desire!), but i even still dig the old galbees for that 80's sporty look!
Hey Britt, this video is awesome. I have the same thoughts on these 2 watches. I could have bought the Santos de Cartier many times over but never felt that it looked good on the wrist. Till this day i still dont now why…..and as you said, all the specs on paper should justify that the Santos de Cartier should be the watch to buy…but on the wrist, it just didn’t look right for me. But when i tried the Santos Dumont, it just looked right….again i cant explain it. So after watching your video, I finally think i know why….its the bracelet/strap. I love how a leather strap creates a contrast and focuses on the square case of the Santos. It makes the watch look less chunky in my opinion. If you get to try the Santos de Cartier again, try it on a leather strap (and maybe do a follow up video on this) and let us know. As for me, i still cannot justify buying a quarts at this price point. So ill wait till i cant try the Santos de Cartier on a leather strap and see how i feel about it (in theory, it should be the perfect combo and the one that might make you fully go on board with deciding on which Santos to pull the trigger on). Cheers from Malaysia.
I do have both and I love them in different ways. Dumont is dressy and De Cartier is more casual. It’s worth getting the two.
Loved this content and the timing. I've been going through this exact question over the weekend in preparation for a visit to the AD midweek 😁
Ah I would pick the santos de Cartier but in the size of the small dumont. Aka the santos galbee 29mm, best of both worlds imo. Great vid cheers!
Yeh no more Squash with Tod I am going to get into my Volvo and get a Santos-Dumont damnit! 😂
….great video and I fully agree on the sports watch definition which is much closer to what it used to be in the day. Owned a S-D in the past and now want one again. Much because the way it wears and looks on the wrist. On paper the Santos is a killer though!
Phew! That was a long way of saying; thanks and great vid! 😅
I watched this video before I got my Santos-Dumont (steel bezel, blue strap). Now I’m back again because I think I want the Santos De Cartier, too. In fact, I also want the Santos-Dumont that Britt is wearing, the one with the Rose Gold bezel 😅
Excellent video, I had my heart set on the tank watch but my reconsider after seeing this and get the version on the strap. Better yet I may see if I can swing both at some point.
It's so true what you say about getting it on your wrist. I remember I was in love with the Glashütte Panomatic. It's a gorgeous watch with a beautiful caliber. Until I had it on my wrist 😮. Not very comfortable and also not very elegant because of its thickness. Now compare that to an elegant Cartier and I knew what I really wanted.
The face on the Santos de Cartier not being a complete square is what gives Santos Dumont the W in the true to tradition department. The watch looks so good on you! Seeing how you like both(I do also!) I want you to get one! hope you do! They are such pretty watches.
I feel you, omg when saw dumont online I not really like its bezel, but once saw it realistic in person, I decided I have to buy it, and now more 1 year wearing this, still best watch ever 😊
For me it's a two-tone Santos-Dumont on the two-tone bracelet all day, every day. Although I am a sucker for a Panthere!
yo this channel has evolved and i really like how its going! its like a documentary! great shots and details!
As an owner of the Santos, Santos Dumont and Tank it is difficult to pick the one I like best. The Santos is more sporty, the Dumont is dressy and the Tank is just plain cool (I have the Must Blue). If I had to pick one, it would probably be the Santos. I prefer watches on a bracelet overall. Doesn't James still have the Santos? You can share. So easy with the quick bracelet adjustment.
It is an extremely sharable watch!! :O
The on the wrist comment really landed for me. I really loved the Santos de Cartier, but on my wrist the medium felt tiny and the large felt positively gigantic. I really wanted something in the middle.
You truly never know until a watch is on the wrist! Such a shame!!!
Wow that bracelet does seem really nice. Your right though not enough people give enough thought to bracelets or clasps.
I’m with ya…I have 3 models on my wishlist: Santos De Cartier Med TT, Santos De Cartier Med, & Tank Louis Cartier in YG
I tried both today, and I agree entirely Brittany Dumont is my choice. Clearly then you need a sporty watch in your collection.
Gringa! Congratulations, you completely smashed that 40K subs number! On Topic; Last week at a RedBar event, I tried on a Santos de Cartier (blue dial 0030 model) on the wrist at my AD. And I am in absolute love with this watch. And you have some sort of subliminal messaging in your videos, because you made me pause the video, and then before I knew it spent 30 minutes shopping on a "the new to me" strap website. Also, you need to let "Harsh Brittany" more often. She is awesome. Long Live the Cult(s).
DON!!!
I have the large Santos de Cartier, and the 2005 release of the Dumont: they are radically different watches (in this case even more, as the 2005 dumont is gold) but both wear absolutely perfectly.
More Cartier Santos content!…YAY! Never clicked a video so fast. Great job! More please!😂
Bahah you came to the right place for Cartier content! ;)
Also have had this dilemma.. Thanks for making this vid for the santos fans. Would’ve liked to see your commentary on the galbee/carree and whether these models were also up as a deciding factor
Oddly I went the other way, went looking at the Dumont this past week and ended up leaving with a large De Cartier with a white dial. Undoubtedly both beautiful watches but the sportier stye and the awesome bracelet did me in, not to mention the spare quick change strap and the automatic manufacture movement. It feels like something I can wear anywhere, and is sooo comfy on the wrist, so far I love it! That all said, I also found the Dumont a bit too "slight" for my wrist and prabably a bit too dressy for my lifestyle.
Neither watch is my style, but that’s okay as it would be a boring world if everyone loved the same thing. Still enjoyed the content as usual.
I have been watching your Cartier Dumont 2 videos 100th time now since I am in love with the watch and the way you have displayed it beautifully. my soul will not take rest unless I buy it. only thing left now to do is to save money 😀
Omg Britt!!! I literally just experienced the EXACT SAME thing 🤣 My wife actually led me towards the Santos de Cartier but upon going to our local AD to try both on, it was 110% clear and evident that the Dumont was IT! I couldn't stop gushing over it lol. It's simple perfection and absolute classicism embodiment just spoke to me! I even passed on the 'one off' Blue bezel De Cartier they happen to have 😅
Pictures do not do dumont justice it is a stunning piece with such a rich history behind it.
I absolutely agree with you, I didn't know what I want until I tried the BB58 Bronze! I initially bought the BBPro, it seemed perfect on paper but I just wasn't giving it the wrist time it deserves. So I sold it. I'm a fan of buying one keeper watch from each brand, so I went back to the drawing board. I never betted an eye on the BB58 Bronze, UNTIL I tried it on this month. The dial and the the brown bezel just sold the watch to me when it was on my wrist. I walked home without buying it and just thought of it ALL THE TIME! Ended up buying it 2 weeks later and it's been seeing a lot of wrist time! Now the Cartier Santos de Cartier medium is doing the same thing to me, that's what brought me to this video!
Except when the battery dies. Mid vacation and you’re miles & miles from any city. No battery no time. Manual wind wind and off you go.
But I love the Cartier
“Santos de Cartier” large and Automatic
Yes… just, yes. Especially that part about bracelets
I have a vintage two-tone Santos de Cartier that is a little smaller than the ones you showed and I absolutely love it! Love the history and look. Unfortunately they don't make that size for women anymore but they are pretty common on the resale market!
I do not have a Cartier, The Santos has been on my want list for a very long time but just never quite got to the top of it for one reason or another. The Tank is another one that never yet made it to the top. My list now just mentions Cartier watch such that if I decide to make a purchase I'll be in the same position that you were, I'd have to make a decision. I have no issue with quartz movements, set it and forget it is quite nice sometimes, other times a manual wind adds that connection to a piece. For now I'm happy not to have to make that decision.
Saludos from El Salvador!!! Big fan of you. And. Your channel. I have a 1990s Santos Dumont 1575-1 in Platinum I found in a local jewelry store and it’s being repaired in Cartier. I’ve never liked small watches but I’m looking forward to seeing the end result and trying it on fully repaired. Take care.
I think you picked the better of the two!
I love the Santos, but I want the large blue automatic one. Both my wife and I could wear it. Maybe one day...
The Santos Dumont is absolutely gorgeous. Full stop!
You are so funny. Love the quirkiness. Refreshing in a sea of serious watch aficionados!
Ah...You're making me want the Santos de Cartier all over again! So damn stunning!! But I can fully appreciate that the Dumont suits your wrist Gringa. It's So utterly classic Cartier. Respect! :)
Gah! I just love them both. Making this video just made me realise I need both ;)
they're both gorgeous watches! and your hair looks amazing!
Thank you for the video ! This is exactly my current dilemma ! Love both of the watches, love the brand... but tank are too small of too big for me. Santos fit right, but I'll need to choose 😉
Gorgeous piece...I personally love the Ballon Bleu de Cartier...
Great video. A santos de cartier medium is my grail.
I'm glad you made the point about people perseverating on overbuilt industrial specifications at the end. Far too often, people dismiss a watch completely when it doesn't have 200M water resistance, a 10000 gauss anti-magnetic rating, a screw down crown and lume you can spot from a mile away, when in practice, they are not living lifestyles even remotely necessitating those features. I think us watch folk are overly picky and when we know there is something "better" out there, such as a screw down crown vs non screw down (though personally I'd much rather prefer a push - pull crown with good gaskets as it's a pain to thread and unthread watches every time I want to change the time or date), we desire the more overbuilt option, when in reality, 99% of us don't need that feature in our day to day
