Almost every Cartier is better than a comparable Rolex: Sub better than pasha Daytona better than roadster...thats where it stops Ballon bleu better than 1908 Santos better than ANY Rolex model Santos Dumont better than ANY Rolex dress watch TANK...Nuff said Crash...lets not even bother Asymetrique and Crash completely different leagues Design language unchanged since the early 1900s.
Completely agree, bought the Cartier adlc large grey not to long ago and has become my favorite in my collection. Just ozzies style and class without being over the top. Just a killer watch!
It is! And the grey dial with the white Roman numerals is just the perfect amount of contrast. Honestly the santos is a much much better watch than the datejust
@@monarchtimepiececollection Oh yeah with the Blue bezel right? i'm yet to decide which Santos i like most, but it's not like i can even afford one right now haha
@@Kciroy that’s fine bud, now is the time to explore your options, watch videos talking about specs and specific details, what people think about them as far as the pros and cons to see if there’s a reoccurring theme, and what pertains to you. There’s videos where they go super deep into the mechanism and details about different watches and watches at different price points so that helps evolve your taste as well. Go into the ADs, try on every model you’re interested in and ones you’re not. It’ll help solidly your choice so when you are in that position to get one you won’t second guess it, you won’t have buyers remorse, and it’ll be that much sweeter owning it 👍🏼
Couple years ago I was frothing at the mouth over newer Datejusts w/ fluted bezels...never could get ahold of one. Now I have matured to Cartier and have a Santos Medium and a Black Santos Large WSSAA0037. No regrets.
I 100% agree with your thoughts around the commonality of Rolex. I’ve been wearing my JLC Geophysic 1958 nonstop instead of my Rolex pieces because I just got tired of having the same watch as everyone else.
Yup, it kinda takes away from the experience of you wear a sub while you’re out and see 5-10 people wearing the exact same watch. And tbh The times I’m wearing my santos, or Hamilton I’ll end up having a great conversation with someone else who notices the watch. Idk I’m getting the itch to sell my Rolex watches and just completely change up my collection. I’d love to sell my bluesy and get a JLC Polaris date.
Good comparison video. I have both watches, TT large Santos & Blue DJ41 fluted/jubilee. Purchased both back in 2020. Santos all of a sudden stopped and would not wind even manually. Cartier tried to charge me for a broken main plate (due to abuse) but I strongly insisted to cover under warranty as there is clearly no neglect done to the Santos as it barely had any scratches even on the bezel. Now fixed and probably one of the favorites in my collection. Very versatile as I also have several gator and calf straps. At the end of the day, I still find myself grabbing the blue DJ more from my case. That blue sunburst is just icing to the jubilee and fluted bezel combo :)
Yea tbh I feel like if I would’ve gone with a black dial and jubilee band I would’ve loved my datejust even more. Though recently I tried on a 41 wimbeldon two tone rose gold on a jubilee and instantly fell in love. The jubilee band has to be my favorite bracelet so far. I love the datejust but it’s just become too common in my space to where it kind of takes away from the experience If that makes sense (not to come across in a bad way) but you kinda wanna feel like your watch is a little special and not too common at times. But thank you for your comment!
The same thing happened to me. My Santos medium stopped working after 8 months. I bought it brand new. It is under warranty, so Cartier repaired it. I bought an Omega aqua terra while the Cartier was being repaired. Cheers
I have rolexes. Juniors and a 36. Just added a Large Santos yesterday!!! I love it’s sexiness on my tiny wrists!! Some are saying that a medium would be better, but i love my large!
Nice! Yea the santos is a stunning watch. The santos I’m wearing in the video is actually my wife’s. She probably has like a 5in wrist but she prefers the oversized aesthetic too!
Both watches are very beautiful. I like the day just that I wear on special occasions. But the Santos is a stylishly every day watch. Here in France I bought it in The Cartier flagship shop in Paris (rue de la Paix). This purchase rue de la Paix was a great experience.
That is so freaking cool! I have yet to have a bad experience at a Cartier store or boutique. Everyone in the store is always very attentive and patient which really adds to the experience of purchasing a luxury watch that is thousands of dollars versus having to practically beg to be allowed to spend your hard earned money. Idk for me Cartier’s watches are elegant well made timepieces that should be strongly considered when looking for a new addition to the collection. Thank you for the comment!
I don’t buy a watch to impress anybody else, but to bring me joy, I’m too old to care if others like it or are impressed. Personally I have often had great conversations with other Rolex owners just due to the shared passion of Rolex. Sitting on a flight, 2 x 3 seat configuration, 5 out of us 6 turned out to wear a Rolex, which 4 of us noticed already before take off, bringing us a knowing smile between complete strangers. That’s what I like, people who appreciate a Rolex and have it because they like it, not because they think, do others think it’s cool or is it common.
Couldn’t agree more. The whole game of going to the rolex AD to be ALLOWED to spend your hard earned money while they just hand out the popular models to clients with a spend history that have several rolex models to cycle through is just flat out ridiculous. That isn’t luxury. Going to a Cartier or Omega boutique and being properly attended to is luxury, and the santos is just so much more appealing to me than a datejust. The datejust is just too common and plain to be honest. Thank you for your comment!
That's too bad because it didn't used to be like that. Even 10 years ago you could walk into an AD and get any Rolex model, except for a Daytona. But you ended up with a great watch. Santos was a good choice.
@@tyarnold4088I think the problem is in the 10 years before pandemic Rolex was in very high demand and it got to the dealer’s head. However for the past 3 years watch dealers have been flooded with used Rolex watches and Demand has almost died. It’s now picking back up but still if you treat customers that way you’re going to pay dearly in the long run like Ferrari. I’d rather get a Porsche because they treat me so much better.
I love my Rolex Datejust 40, but not enough to hold on to it. I gave it to my younger sister. I’m getting the Cartier Santos (medium) but in the white dial.
Very nice. I’m sure you won’t regret it. The santos is another level of uniqueness, class, and quality that most Rolex models won’t give you. Enjoy it! IMO the medium size is the perfect size/dimensions for the santos
Love, love, love my Santos. Thank you for telling me that you share it with your wife. I first bought the blue medium, then just last week, I fell in love with the new brown/gold, so I bought it in medium. All the while wondering if I should get the large. Have had my eye on the green dial, so I’m toying with getting my third Santos, might just pull the trigger on the green LARGE! I also bought a Rolex DateJust a couple of years ago and think it’s beautiful but I am mesmerized by the Santos, and Cartier in general. Recently bought the 35mm Pasha, also outstanding. Wonderful wide high shine bezel! May just keep the Rolex, just to have one. Although I’m a female watch enthusiast for the last approx 10 years or so, only realized within the last couple of months what I’ve been missing out by not considering Cartier. By the way, began collecting with Invicta, so I’m not scared of a larger timepiece. Invicta gives you the option of wearing it on your wrist or hanging it on the wall! lol. Glad I’ve come a long way from Invicta but that’s how I got started and still have many Invicta’s in my collection. Not a bad watch and lots of bang for the buck! Thanks for a great video, and God bless!
@@joannesalvia2495 thank you! And yea females are rocking larger watches nowadays. The santos takes up my wife’s entire wrist but she loves it and it looks great on her. At the end of the day it’s all about what you like. I may even get a small tank because I love that aesthetic of having a small dress watch for classier occasions. Thank you for commenting and enjoy the watch collecting journey!
One thing that surprised me is how this watch appreciates in value . I bought one last Oct for £6750. I had a look today and it’s now worth £7700! It went up by almost a grand in 6 months !!
Yup! It’s a nice feeling knowing most of your money is safe when buying watches and an even better feeling when they appreciate in value. People can say what they want about watch buying and the whole process, but at the end of the day it is always going to be on the back of our minds and influence our decision making when finally pulling the trigger on a watch we’ve been contemplating on. Thank you for the comment!
Can't agree with you more. I own a Rolex DateJust 36mm two tone Ref. 116233 for more than 10 years and enjoyed it in all different occasions until I bought Santos de Cartier 2 months ago. The one I had is a mid size two tone version with a white dial. Same as you, this size fits the wrists of both my wife and I well. I found myself wearing Santos more over the last 2 months than my Rolex DateJust and other Rolex tool watches, it is the one watch fits all different events, formal or casual. Both watches are classic but Santos de Cartier is just so different with its heritage design and traditional Cartier language, especially with its rich history behind how it was born - probably the first wrist watch and pilot watch in the history of watchmaking!
Yea man the santos is unique and it’s bold design makes it stand apart from everything else. Both are great watches but if I only could wear one it would be the santos
I have the Black Bay 41 Manufacture Calibre MT5601 as my daily wear, like the clean look with the beautiful blue dial and 5 link jubilee bracelet, don't mind it getting trashed around but I really want to get my hands on a Large Cartier SANTOS DE CARTIER. It's literally an objective I must get my hands on one, but when I do get to that point I'm unsure on whether I should get the white dial which is the classic and just right look for the watch or a blue dial because all my other watches I have are all blue dial and I just have a clear likeness for a blue dial watch. Appreciate anyone with any suggestions.
Highly recommend getting a santos. I prefer the blue dial on the large model honestly because it has a sunburn effect to it, the markers are applied and it looks a bit sleeker with the contrast of the stainless steel and blue dial. The white dial is elegant and on the brown strap it comes with will be an even more versatile watch. I put the santos on a blue rubber strap and it was the perfect tweak to it for it to be a daily wearer. The white dial looks a bit too flat for me imo
@@Yorkshiremadmick thank you! The new green dial looks amazing. I’m sure it’ll look great k. S brown alligator leather strap too to make it dressier/casual wear. It’ll be a great addition
I got a black datejust and a white seamaster. Wanted a blue santos, but the large seem big for me (6.5 inch wrist). So now that we got a medium in blue ill be jumping to get one soon. Great video
I have both, a Santos large green dial and a datejust 41 two tone jubilee/smooth, the design of the santos is beautiful but the datejust feels like a tank and I have no issues getting my DJ41 to the pool, something that I would not do with the santos. I do have submariner date 2022 so I do have the pool watch covered from that side as well.
Sounds like a solid collection! Tbh I’ve gotten into the pool with my santos as I hardly ever even go below 10ft lol but that’s me. I don’t dive into the pool or horse around too much. I pretty much just chill but if I was gonna go some scuba diving or serious water activities I’d definitely go in with my sub no doubt about it. But I guess it’s about having a watch for the everyday activities we do that makes the santos a better choice for me than the datejust IMO
I love both,i worn a santos automatjque years ago,it was great, very eficient acuracy, elegant and perfect to wear everyday, only problem the strap open all the time alone...after i worn a rolex airking 34mm,super nice too, perfect acuracy, problem again with the strap who open quickly...but the best is to have the 2...if you can, look so diferent ,perfect collection, dont need any more...
I have to agree with you, as i have matured in this hobby i don't want the same pieces that wanted when i started. I spend more time looking for interesting pieces that have history but are not necessarily in the mainstream. I tried on a Santos this summer and i have to say it's a beautiful piece with a rich history, I want the WSSA0037. It has a second rubber strap with the classic rivet design, sporty but still office worth i think as a daily wear. new to your channel but now subscribed continue the good work.
Thank you! Greatly appreciate the comment, feedback, and subscription. I love that Cartier reference. The bezel and dial are a bit stealthier but the polished numerals and hands still give it a classy appeal. Definitely a watch that’ll cause a double look. And yes, as far as expanding and not walking down the common path of Rolex hype you learn to appreciate and desire unique design and history that deserves to be brought into the spotlight. Thanks again!
I'm thinking about getting one as well the new one to 2022 with the blue Bezel and I know they come in large and I'm a small guy as well I'm thinking I should go to the store and see if they have one one a large one and see how it fits on me the way you sound it sounds like it will still work and look good
Yes I would definitely recommend going into the store and trying it on. I have a 6.3 inch wrist and personally I feel as if the watch is on the larger size of what I am used to wearing but it’s gorgeous.. you’re gonna love it
The movements “might” be better in the Datejust, but aesthetically the Cartier Santos is a winner imo. They both have a lot of history as well though. Both great watches and a good comparison video! I’ve worn my Omega SMP Diver white dial with a rubber strap lately and think the Aqua Terra is a good alternative to the Datejust
Rolex for better value but if you don’t care then the Santos is a nice piece I wish they had put a better movement in it for the price but Cartier is a Jewellery Brand mostly so for me I would just go for the Tank Must XL and not worry about the scratches because the Santos is going to look like you know if you wear it often not really worth the money 💰
If diamonds are your thing then yes. Cartier actually makes a santos with a diamond bezel if you want something a bit cleaner than full bust down bezel and case
@@Josh_3165 i’m not going to lie. The scratching of the bezel is a problem. The new Santos came out with a PVD bezel that is scratch resistant, but i still prefer the model i have.
I’m not too sure which watch you’re referring to. Is it the gold santos dumont? If it’s any santos then yes, the bezel will get scratched but honestly it’s worth it. The hairlines are barely noticeable but the hard deep scratches will pop up. Overall the design of the watch is amazing and small signs of wear give it some edginess to it and you can always polish it which shouldn’t cost too much thankfully
The only Rolex i've ever liked is a Datejust with fluted bezel or Day-Date. But i've noticed my taste likes to go to less common pieces like the Cartier Santos. I don't care about "investment watches" or even watches that will profit/hold value.

Cartier should make the 'ML' version with 38.0 x 45.4 mm dimension to entertain the goldilocks 39-40mm round watch equivalent. Thanks for the vid, man.
Thanks man! I think Cartier released a medium sized santos with blue and green dial that are time only if that’s the size you’re talking about. I would’ve gotten the medium size if that watch would’ve been available when I got mine. It wears a bit larger than I’d prefer but nonetheless it’s an amazing watch
IMHO that’s a weird datejust configuration. Oyster bracelet, fluted bezel, white with Roman numerals, so I prefer the Santos. I love that you went with the large since it spoke to you
Yea in hindsight I really regret not getting a different configuration on the DJ. Should’ve gone with a black it blue dial in jubilee but oh well. Either way I think I still prefer the santos over any DJ
Oooooofffffff excellent choice…did you get it with the blue dial?? I think that is by far one of the most under appreciated watches made by VC! I love it on the navy blue leather strap. It’s extremely elegant and unique. Such a great watch!
@@monarchtimepiececollection thanks man! It wasn’t easy as I love Santos and it’s like 2x the price. Got silver dial, after trying them both I was amazed by the sunburst effects more than the mate blue.

Cartier is 100% class and i love it although under the hood Rolex is still better, Cartier prices are skyrocketing very fast and i think they price their watches somehow in an incoherent way, Ronde must or Tank XL vs Santos Large $3,200 price difference for the same caliber, Santos Large vs Santos Skeleton $22,650 difference, both S.S. but different Caliber of course
I agree but to be honest for the the most part the movements coming out of most brands are reliable and accurate for our daily use. Brands like Rolex, AP, Omega, and Patek make astonishing movements, but the in house movements from Cartier and Oris are good as well. Yes, not to the same caliber as the brands mentioned before, but for the average person’s daily use I think they’re sufficient. That’s why, for me, I think it comes down to the design of the watch that really sets it apart and the Santos is just a classier watch and more unique when compared to the datejust.
I have both, but my Datejust is 50 years old, daily wear, looks brand new keeps perfect time, waterproof, not ostentatious, most people would not even know it is a Rolex. But people who know pick up on it. The Cartier is very much a dress watch, beautiful in every respect. but would not stand up to the rigors of an everyday watch and be easily scratched or damaged.
Love my Santos. I have the white dial. Wanted a classic look. It brings a smile to me every time its on. Great watch that can fit into a number of situations, work, going out, outdoors. But my god it is a scratch magnet 😅
I agree!! The medium fits my wrist so much better but man that blue dial is something else. I might just get the medium too to have in the collection. Maybe two tone??
@@monarchtimepiececollection The two-tone looks great but soft gold on a scratch-magnet bezel - if you wear it with mostly long sleeve shirts, all good!

@@monarchtimepiececollection Oh, I've had a VC 56 on my wrist and it's gorgeous. But I have a Grand Seiko SBGA 373 and I can't say well enough about it. I own both i have the 2 tone Santos large and a DJ41 with Azzuro bkue dial. The price points not being equal aside. They are equally beautiful and Amazing watches. The Datejust you compare to the Santos is the least attractive and desirable in the ROLEX collection.
I’ll take the Santos over the datejust, but I’ll take the explorer II over the santos. I do own a Santos PVD blue dial and the Explorer II (ref.226570, black dial)
The explorer II is a great watch, but it is very sporty. I actually prefer the black dial over the white dial. Santos and explorer sounds like a good set up!
"Better" is subjective based on criteria chosen , and the weighting on them . For me i much prefer the Santos . Ignoring the merits of the watch more and more im thinking the typical Rolex owners are like audi drivers .
I agree. The medium size has better proportions. At the time they didn’t have the blue dial in the medium but now that they do I kinda wish I could have it in the medium size
Cartier power reserve lets it down badly but cartier seems immune to things like that, a quartz in the range is a death sentence to many brands but not Cartier. If Still like to see Cartier movement go to 60-70 hours power reserve though .
I wanted to like the Santos, but anytime I tried it on, it just didn’t look good. The only Cartier I liked was the Americane - a bit more like a reverso in proportion. DJ is a classic GADA.
I disagree about the DJ, I think it’s one of the best Rolex models overall regardless of their more exclusive models. I don’t think it’s worth comparing to a Tutor or Seiko.
Thank you for your comment! I do love the datejust, but it’s becoming a bit too common for me, and it’s almost becoming difficult for me to even justify wearing it. It is a beautiful and classic watch though.
Santos is my grail. All the way!!! I don't know you; I've never seen any other video of yours, so I'll have some fun and predict your next watch to be ... a Junghans. No, a Christopher Ward Acquatain.
@@fabfour289 hi yes it is the large model. The medium size blue dial is time only and was only recently released in 2023. I have a 2022 model large in the blue dial that has a time and date complication. It fits a little large but I love it. Thank you for the comment I greatly appreciate it!
Both watches aesthetically has their respective merits however the datejust is an icon and a winner every time . What’s up with that poor power reserve Of 42 hours on the santos .
True. The datejust is iconic, but for me the santos is just a bit better from a stylistic standpoint. It just an appealing design to me and it’s not as common as a datejust. The 42hr power reserve isn’t a factor for me. Just means I get to wind and set the watch a bit more frequently. Doesn’t take more than a minute to do and I enjoy winding my watches. Personally power reserve and water resistance don’t matter to me too much because I’m not diving to find treasure down in the titanic, and or climbing Everest that I’ll need a watch with a power reserve for x days. At the end of the day those two features of the watch aren’t too important in the grand scheme of things. Style, design, and uniqueness are more important for me which makes the santos the winner
The santos is just as ubiquitous as the date just, like I said they are both great watches and it all comes down to taste and preference . The datejust is a better watch in terms of history, functionality, robustness and value retention . That why so many buyers love and purchase them .
@@metro2171 true. I can’t argue that more people end up getting the datejust. But having something in your collection that isn’t as common is a plus overall. It’s good to not be afraid to stand out from the crowd every now and then, but yes on paper the Rolex is a better “buy”
Your discussion here is interesting, but you don't get into technicalities at all. The Santos is a great watch, but the Cartier calibre 1847 is essentially an ETA 2892. Nothing wrong with that, but in terms of chronometeic precision, durability, and longevity, it is inferior to a Rolex movement. In all other areas, I agree with you, the Santos is a better watch. But they were able to offer you a better watch at a similar price to a Datejust (or lower) by focusing only on the design of the case, bracelet, and dial, and not investing very much into the movement.
Oh, you just mentioned quality, any of my 2020 or newer Rolexes have a better built quality than my santos, any Rolex even 36mm ones feel like a tank and the screw down crown is a big plus, no question.
Yea I agree. The quality in the datejust is a bit better in that regard along with the sturdiness of the case, but overall I think the santos is great for the everyday wear to the office/casual events, etc. If it comes down to spelunking, diving, and jumping out of airplanes then I’d say the Rolex is probably the safer buy lol
@@monarchtimepiececollection completely agree, best case scenario is to have the santos and the datejust, if money allows, now to enjoy my honeymoon period with my santos, if you ever get a panerai luminor I’d be very interested in your opinion, I am aiming at one for my next purchase to add some variety to my collection, cheers!
I think the datejust is timeless and to me a more decerning piece. I feel the Santos is too bulky to be a true dress watch. Plus the Rolex has superiour build quality and movement and holds its value better.. thanks for sharing!
Thank you for the comment! The DJ is a classic watch and yes without a doubt better build quality but the santos is just as good in quality. The santos is surprisingly thinner than the DJ. The squared case does make it wear a bit larger to some degree but the thinness of the case helps it wear very easily. Thank you for commenting!
I get that you’re advocating a position here, but the suggestions that the DJ has a problem sliding under a cuff and that it lacks versatility are going a bit too far. I’m in a suit&tie 5 days a week. Never a fit or comfort problem w/a DJ. As for versatility, I’m not sure what more you want a DJ to do. SS case and bracelet, 100m WR, timeless design, beautiful dial colors…as easy to wear in the boardroom as at a BBQ. Don’t get me wrong, the Cartier has a lot to recommend itself…a lot…but, let’s not get carried away.
@monarchtimepiececollection absolutely! I find the date window as a must more so because of its function over aesthetics. But in the case of a dress watch, it definitely works. Thanks for responding!
@@marcusedcofficial I agree. The date function is the best complication a watch can have. Especially as a daily. It’s very practical. And of course bud thank you for watching and commenting!
The Cartier Santos is an iconic beauty but I would not buy one. Why? Because the Santos is very scratch prone, especially on the high polished bezel. Cartier knows about this flaw and refuses to fix it, meanwhile, UA-camrs keep making excuses for the flawed and subpar metal casing. Silver colored watches, such as stainless steel and titanium, are the defacto metal of choice. Why, in 2024, aren't manufacturers making "scratch-proof" watches? There are PVD coatings and nomenclatures like 316L steel, super titanium, TinSkin 3.0, and platinum encasements. A company as profitable and well funded as Cartier has no excuse for making watches that are scratch prone. Invest a little R&D and fix this problem. It's not just a Cartier problem, but most luxury watchmakers don't put in the effort to ensure their watches are "scratch-proof" or as scratch resistant as possible. It's a shame. For this reason alone I would never buy a Cartier Santos. Profits above all. So what are the most scratch resistant metals? Tegiment steel and UltraHex titanium.
Although that is true, and several company’s are making scratch resistant watches with newer materials, but Cartier does have a PVD santos now which imo is stunning. Along with there are newer santos models that have ceramic or pvd bezels to combat this pronation to scratches. Although I agree that the stainless steel isn’t as scratch proof as other materials, I believe brands still use it for its durability and versatility. I’m sure it’s cost effective and yields a greater return but overall I think it’s safe to say that most collectors prefer to have a SS watch in their collection opposed to other materials other than precious metals
@@monarchtimepiececollection Stainless steel is an umbrella term. There are stainless steels that prone to scratches and stainless steels that are not prone to scratches, as well as coatings too, which we've both mentioned. Having the bezel on a Cartier Santos scratched by something as innocuous as the cuff of your shirt is unforgivable.
@@davidhunternyc1 you’re right. It is prone to being scratched by a fabric stitched shirt, but that shouldn’t stop you from getting it. Nothing a quick polish can’t remove. But if that factor robs you from enjoying the Watch to his full potential, I completely agree and understand. There are certain aspects to other watches that do not make them feasible for my collection or taste. It’s always to consider every factor when adding a watch to the collection and what they’re made of is something most don’t consider as much as they should
On the contrary, she has tiny wrists. She prefers the way a larger watch looks on her. I tried to persuade her to get a small Cartier tank but she didn’t like how dainty it looked on her. She preferred the larger aesthetic of the santos
i get it... but bro also got the most boring datejust , so nobrainer the Cartier is better. i have the dj36 jubilee silver dial and ill never sell tbis watch..i consider buying a midsize blue santos as daily , cause im concerned the rolex gets attention of some robbers on the street
@@mike15. I think the only DJ that has a solid contention to being a good configuration is a blue dial or a black dial. White, silver, grey, or grey just don’t look great on it. But even then I think the Santos is overall a better choice. If you gotta worry about a DJ being recognized and think what you have to do to avoid getting it stolen then that for me is enough of a reason to ruin the joy of wearing it. A santos is gonna get recognized as well. Thieves know watches better than most of us and need to be able to recognize pieces from all brands.
Cartier-scratches easily , it is a love or hate it, service hyperexpensive , parts super expensive , bracelet or strap expensive , service network not so good, quality is a little bit lower , the caliber is good but far away from Rollie, second hand watches are very storm treated watches. Rolex- keeps price , caliber reliable, service network very good and high standard , steel is very good , scratches hardly , the rolex community is huge the price is what you get , if you buy it new it is exactly what they are promising chrono etc etc
All very, very good points! My favorite being the “Rolex community is a huge price is what you get” haha spot on. But I agree with you with pretty much everything you state, with that being stated…I have to ask (because I frankly do not know), but how often are Cartier watches having quality issues with their parts and movements? I have found them to be well made for the most part thay those expenses hardly ever come up that straps are faulty or break and need to be replaced. The movements have always been good since they were previously made by JLC and now are in house and are doing well from what I know. That being the case I feel like when it comes down to it that $8.5-9k for a datejust seems a bit much to justify it for me. The metal may easier scratch on a Cartier but that $2-4k difference is where you can get it polished to look brand new and continue to stand out in a room filled with flutted bezels, cyclops lenses, and stand out from the crowd imo
I’ve owned a DJ since 1994 and also own a 39mm Explorer. The Rolex service is very expensive and you have to wait to get it back from Switzerland. I bought the large Santos 6 months ago and got a 10 year warranty. The newer Rolex movement is better than the Cartier but in terms of fit, finish and quality there is no difference.
Almost every Cartier is better than a comparable Rolex:
Sub better than pasha
Daytona better than roadster...thats where it stops
Ballon bleu better than 1908
Santos better than ANY Rolex model
Santos Dumont better than ANY Rolex dress watch
TANK...Nuff said
Crash...lets not even bother
Asymetrique and Crash completely different leagues
Design language unchanged since the early 1900s.

Agreed. Santos is the clear winner ✅
It’s a keeper!
The ADLC version is also alot more scratch resistant right? i've been looking at one recently
@@Kciroy yea I think so. Also the new PVD santos are scratch resistant too
@@monarchtimepiececollection Oh yeah with the Blue bezel right? i'm yet to decide which Santos i like most, but it's not like i can even afford one right now haha
No regrets.
Right there with you buddy
I 100% agree with your thoughts around the commonality of Rolex. I’ve been wearing my JLC Geophysic 1958 nonstop instead of my Rolex pieces because I just got tired of having the same watch as everyone else.
Yup, it kinda takes away from the experience of you wear a sub while you’re out and see 5-10 people wearing the exact same watch. And tbh
The times I’m wearing my santos, or Hamilton I’ll end up having a great conversation with someone else who notices the watch.
Did you get it from a Cartier boutique or from an AD? Quite brazen of them to try and charge you for something that’s still covered under warranty.
I wanted to buy Rolex but the sheer arrogance of Rolex AD’s drove me away. I started to look at other options and stumbled upto, Santos, what a watch❤
They are both a winner. Both classics. You can't go wrong with these.
I agree!
Very nice that you display the watches properly, crown side down.
Real recognizes real 😎 thanks man!
Agreed. I also think (depending on the bracelet) the santos will age a lot better than a day date as well.
I think so too
Can't agree with you more.

Thanks man I greatly greatly appreciate that. Really means a lot!
Going for a Santos as well. But with a white dial. In medium without the date complication.
Excellent configuration! That to me is probably the most classic Santos
I have the same Santos and it's my daily now. Other similar watches from Rolex, GS, and others never stood a chance and have been sold.
Couldn’t agree with you more! Nothing classier than a santos imo
I have a 6.3 inch wrist and personally I feel as if the watch is on the larger size of what I am used to wearing but it’s gorgeous.. you’re gonna love it
Love the santos!! So clean & unique
It is!! And thank you for the comment! I greatly appreciate it
Rolex for better value but if you don’t care then the Santos is a nice piece I wish they had put a better movement in it for the price but Cartier is a Jewellery Brand mostly so for me I would just go for the Tank Must XL and not worry about the scratches because the Santos is going to look like you know if you wear it often not really worth the money 💰
Thinking of trading my 36mm stainless steel datejust with diamond bezel for a bust down XL santos with leather strap.
Worth it?
If diamonds are your thing then yes. Cartier actually makes a santos with a diamond bezel if you want something a bit cleaner than full bust down bezel and case
Which would u buy the Santos vs the Ballon Bleu w Black Leather Strap
Santos hands down all the way without hesitation. The BB isn’t exactly my style tbh but to each their own. The santos is damn near perfect
@@monarchtimepiececollection I'm just concerned about the scratches on the Santos

Santos all the way, love mine.

Is it still made with an ETA movement like my Santos 100 ??
Nope I believe it has an in-house made movement

You are sooooo right.
Why thank you my good man
Your discussion here is interesting, but you don't get into technicalities at all.
@@sergiogarcia9822 yea I’ve always wanted to try on a Panerai but the opportunity hasn’t come up though. Would love to review one some day!
Love the santos !
I own both and the Santos performs better as a dress watch.
@@DWilliam1 couldn’t agree more
You should go for mid model way to big for your wrist
You can’t be serious that thing is a scratch magnet date just is an icon
@@thomasrusso1411 that’s why there’s a process called “polishing” that exists to help buff out scratches. Pretty revolutionary stuff, I know
Santos is beautiful ❤
@@RobiTobi-u3u thank you bud!!
If only the medium had a date window
I know! That’s all it’s missing. But still I think the symmetry of a no date dial is also a win
@monarchtimepiececollection absolutely! I find the date window as a must more so because of its function over aesthetics. But in the case of a dress watch, it definitely works. Thanks for responding!
@@marcusedcofficial I agree. The date function is the best complication a watch can have. Especially as a daily. It’s very practical. And of course bud thank you for watching and commenting!
of course Cartier de Santos. It looks much better on you then Rolex......
Thank you!
It’s always to consider every factor when adding a watch to the collection and what they’re made of is something most don’t consider as much as they should
My grail would be a blue dial Santos in 18k but alas I do not believe Cartier offers this as yet.
That color and precious metal combination would look insane. Or a rose gold and a blue dial would be crazy
Santos all day, but white dial
No that’s not what they mean by chronometer. The term is to describe a cosc-certified watch
Sold all my Rolex watches and moved to Seiko - never looked back.
Made in Japan carries weight.
Price of this Cartier
Depending on where you look you can find it brand new under retail 😎 if you’re interested let me know and send me a DM on Instagram!
"Cardi Aye"
😂 I’ve heard like 5 different pronunciations of it at this point I just didn’t want to sound like I was having a stroke
I got my GIRL a Cartier, myself a datejust
Cartier all day
Agreed 🤝🏼
I can't imagine your wife wearing a 40mm square watch. She must have huge wrists
On the contrary, she has tiny wrists. She prefers the way a larger watch looks on her. I tried to persuade her to get a small Cartier tank but she didn’t like how dainty it looked on her. She preferred the larger aesthetic of the santos
Datejust all the way
i get it... but bro also got the most boring datejust , so nobrainer the Cartier is better. i have the dj36 jubilee silver dial and ill never sell tbis watch..i consider buying a midsize blue santos as daily , cause im concerned the rolex gets attention of some robbers on the street
Datejust is by far the winner for me
Both watches are amazing. The datejust and the santos are iconic, but I can’t help but prefer to have something most don’t.
