  • Lisa Gade reviews the XP-Pen Artist 16 Pro, their new 15.6” pen display for artists with a wider color gamut than the non-pro version (92% Adobe RGB). The display connects to a Windows or Mac PC via USB and HDMI and has 1920 x 1080 resolution and 8,192 levels of pen pressure sensitivity. It has a matte non-touch surface and 8 Express Keys. It comes with two pens, all the cables you’ll need and a sturdy adjustable stand. It’s an affordable alternative to Wacom Cintiq displays and competes with Huion, Ugee and other affordable pen monitors, while offering wider color gamut. List price is $499.

    XP-Pen is doing a great job this year. Their Deco 03 Pen tab is killin it. At 100 bucks it works as good as my 500 dollar Wacom tablet. Thanks for the review Lisa, I'm glad that you have been including art tools in your reviews as well.

      yeah.. sooner or later these non Wacom tablets were sure to catch up or get close to Wacom technology for a fraction of the price.

    Now this one looks like it's a fit for me, great color gamut, size, and most of all, great price. I've been reading a lot about this company, looks like I really need to try them out. As always, great review Lisa!

    I literally ordered the 15.6 non-pro version (which is wholly distinct, different pen technology and USB-C) one hour before this came out. I thought I was going crazy for a moment there

    I spent $500 for the Wacom Intuos (large) years ago. I don't even remember when I got it maybe 5 years ago. I have no idea if it's time to upgrade.

    They come from 10 inch and up actually. Not just 13" and up.

    Is there a better stand with adjustable height and tilt? I love small monitors, but not if they give me neck pain....the other issue I have here is the 16:9 aspect ratio -- I love the 3:2 aspect ratio of the MS Surface devices...so much more usable for small displays.

    Ouch that Parallax is a real downer for me. I will be purchasing the Dell Canvas 27. It's the best out there and I love the large form factor. Lisa, I understand that you have not been able to get a DC27 to review...that indeed is a real bummer but some credible reviews are now starting to come in. I'm sold.

      Dell promised us a review loaner but never came through- such a shame. Clearly it's in another class in terms of size and price, as are the bigger Wacom Cintiq Pro pen displays (I will be reviewing the Wacom).

    • @ToddDolce
      @ToddDolce 6 років тому

      Great Lisa! I was debating between the DC27 and the Wacom 24 Pro. If I weigh it all out though...I would lose 3" of real estate with the Wacom 24 yet gain with pen pressure and 4K screen...but for about $200 more.
      The win for the Dell at $1800 is the extra real estate, cheaper price and full touch capabilities (if I want it). The W24Pro at $2K does not come with the touch and again is a smaller screen. Pen pressure beyond 2400 is barely a noticeable gain so that is not a win. It all points to Dell. I just don't think the 4K screen will be enough for me to pick the Wacom.
      It is still a tough decision.
      Not so sure Wacom will will sell many of the so called "Engines" since to me, unless you are in the market for a new laptop,...is not a wise purchase. Although I'm sure they call them engines because combined with the screen will set you back the price of a small used car.
      I can't wait to see what you think of the Wacom24.

    Can I ask, the screen protector is off on mine! I have only used it for two days and there are scratches all over the screen. Can this be replaced? Or is the screen screwed? If so I will have to redeem my warranty.

    That actually doesn't look that bad, especially for the price. Too bad about the parallax though. I think that would drive me insane.

    Would you buy a used MacBook Pro 2015 13" or a Dell xps 13 or the hp spectre? I only used those for word and movies.
    I've never seen the xps in real life.. How does it look?

    It looked like you were really struggling to select tools on the left edge of Clip Studio... Is it generally troublesome on that left side (these things often are)? I don't want to be having to poke the very edge of the glass to get response

    Just a few questions. I've read that the stylus or pen does use a battery, so does the cable charge the battery? Does the battery ever run out, and if so; is there a way to replace the battery?

    Hi Lisa! If you have to choose between Huion GT-156HD V2 and This XP-Pen 16 Pro (or maybe you have some other Wacom alternative) - Which one would you choose? I'm asking from the photographer's perspective, mostly image editing using capture one pro, photoshop, NIK, etc.
    Thanks!

    • @Oozaru85
      @Oozaru85 6 років тому +1

      The Huion GT 156 HD V2 is not bad as well, but it has only 72% Adobe RGB Gamut, while this XP Pen has 92%. The rest is basically the same, but since the price is also the same I'd say go for XP Pen.

    Does anyone know if there are any driver / photoshop issues with the pen button functionality? I love being able to bind pan (with space) onto one of the pen buttons, so holding and dragging pans your document. I recently tried the GAOMON 16" pen display and this functionality seemed very buggy and I could not get it to work right.

    I really hope more display makers start to sell this kind of cheap touch screen to replace our desktop monitor...
    Like seriously, in 2018 yet we don't have touch and pen input for desktop which is silly (I don't want to buy a Surface Studio)
    I'd rather (and my friends too) have touch display than 4K-8K 144Hz OLED monitor, which is only benneficial in photo editor and artist alike
