Thank you so much for this very helpful tutorial! This may be a dumb question, but is there still a need to make a “Bulk WM” shortcut if you set it to select multiple photos in the “WMI” shortcut? Couldn’t you then just run bulk watermarking from the “Watermark Single Image” shortcut?
after watching few shortcuts videos and creating few shortcut on my own. The element/function that really I wish it has is the “grouping “ and “duplicate action”, or more greedily, “function variables” (unless there’s another way around that I would like to know). Although it can run another shortcut as an action, but if you want to repeat a group of actions that may have multiple input or the actions differ slightly every times. It’s really a pain in the butt to recreate the actions several times.
I have been trying to find a way to overlay text that has been converted into an image over an image. However, I would like to overlay multiple lines of text. Is this possible? I was only able to get one long string of text using the shortcut process in the video.
I prefix my “library” shortcuts with two digits, e.g. 00WMI. Since the Run Shortcut action list shortcuts in alphabetical order, the library shortcuts are at the top of the list. I also have reserved a color for library shortcuts and drag them to the bottom of my library. This helps discern them as widgets.
Really impressive video. I am making a watermark shortcuts which very similar with yours. It works fine for every picture when I run the shortcuts directly, however when I run it through "Share With", it crashed when execute the "Overlay" step. I did some investigation and find the crash will gone after i resize the image to smaller, just half width of a regular iPhone/iPad photo. May I know if you (or any other people who reading this comment) met this issue and do you have any solution or alternative solution to bypass it? Thanks! My device: iPad 2018 (6th) and iPhone SE2. ==== OK find the issue and solution. I have to add a Continue in Shortcuts App step in very beginning as overlay to a "big" image takes too many memory.
I've committed to trying out Notion as the primary app I use to plan and manage the channel throughout November. I plan to close the month with a video on my experiences. So far, I'm enjoying it and I think it might take over from Things and Evernote.
@@tech_craft Cool to hear, Im also working with notion but still tying to get a good grip of it. Things I would like on my mac but its just to pricey for me. I found a new app called Noto(around 30 euros I think), it looks very interesting and Im thinking about trying it out fully; the UI is super cool and appealing!
U’R A BLESSING :) Thanks for posting very interesting tech video about iPad! Because it’s very annoying to see always the same reiterating things posted over and over on many other channels. One thing related to this "watermark via shortcuts"... What about joining together the power of Shortcuts and Phytonista? Could you create a version of this "watermark gear" using Phytonista? I think it could be much much more powerful!
Thanks for your kind words as always! I did have a version of the watermark utility that used Pythonista, but ultimately I started using the canvas approach because I think it's likely a bit more accessible to people. With RunJavaScript being free, the canvas approach is certainly a lot cheaper than using Pythonista. Also, the JS canvas is so powerful it's really hard to find something that can't be done with it.
Tech Craft Ok. Got it :) But...with JavaScript we are forced to bound to a DOM environment (a web page in Safari essentially). So I think this scenario is a bit...limited. What do you think? Thanks a lot for taking the time to reply :)
Sorry I missed this comment for so long! The JavaScript canvas essentially bypasses the DOM so we end up with an environment that is essentially a full 2D drawing context like the native one in iOS.
Fantastic video. The whole tutorial series is great. I’m going through them and some things have changed but no biggie. Except I’m pulling my hair out on this one. Early on when I test the overlay, it works with “Show Image Editor” = On. But then I turn that off and leave the default, it bombs with “There was a problem running shortcut Watermark.” I know I’m late to the party on this video but if anyone has an idea I’d appreciate it. Edit: Believe it or not, a device restart cleared this issue. Apparently Shortcuts is very buggy on iOS 15. Lots of complaints out there. Here is another I stumbled across: when running from a share sheet it’s a hot mess. The resulting image is downsized and the watermark is too big.
Im just getting into shortcuts and coding in general so I would be very interested to see more with run java and other things to make more complex shortcuts
For your library shortcuts you can disable the "show in widget / share sheet" options. Then they'll show in Shortcuts app only but are still available for "run shortcut".
@@tech_craft they still do. I have a 42 seconds proof: ua-cam.com/video/R6aqN1ZYlVQ/v-deo.html I think the important bit is to switch off the two options after the shortcut is created. This way the "shortcut input" stays available, even if you could not select it anymore.
Absolutely. There’s a ‘Get Details of Images’ action that gives you access to loads of image data including date and location. Either of these can be made I to the watermark text.
If there can be a way to do batch image processing in something like Affinity Photo/Designer (or similar) I’d love it. Also with that the first image editor that’s good that has something like Photoshop actions and I’ll be able to some very powerful image work!
I really wish Darkroom or Affinity would get more serious about offering Shortcuts support. I wouldn't be surprised if we see some dedicated image processing apps targeted at Shortcuts arriving on the scene. ToolboxPro keeps getting more image functions and it's just so useful to have them in a Shortcuts-accessible way.
Tech Craft well this is all young tech for iOS, so it could be we are just starting to see what it can be. These things could really help differentiate “pro” apps from simple editors 😎
Tech Craft ua-cam.com/video/AZNuQDwL96s/v-deo.html Hi I m made a video just watch and see what is happening.watermark image size is same as mentioned above.
Grateful to have just found you video 3 years later as I’ve been trying to locate methods to semi automate water marking. Thank you 🙏
I really love shortcut sundays, learning so much!
How do you make the text color white instead of black?
Yeah, need more of these Shortcut Sundays.. Thank you for these awesome tutorials. Have learnt a lot.
P.s. And also it’s a very good news to hear from you that next video will be on PDF workflow!
Thanks a lot!
Gorgeous courses. Just follow from yesterday. Learn a lot. Thank you for what you did.
Where’d you go mate I would love for you to make an updated series on shortcuts ❤

Hi.
do I take a picture and put it on automatically?

Hi sir how to add timestamp and date also? Can show me?
This save my life.
It would be great to see what kind of apps you use for note taking/project management and knowledge management. Great channel mate!

I would also love to know how to change the color of the text
That’s great Rob :)
how to add date to photo using shortcut?
For your library shortcuts you can disable the "show in widget / share sheet" options. Then they'll show in Shortcuts app only but are still available for "run shortcut".
Sadly, if you take them out of the share sheet they can’t accept any input.
@@tech_craft they still do. I have a 42 seconds proof: ua-cam.com/video/R6aqN1ZYlVQ/v-deo.html

FTE99699 Oh nice. What a nice little hack that is!!
Have you used Scriptable to directly run JavaScript, there are a number of Shortcut actions for the AP.
I've used it a little, but I really need to find the time to dig into it properly. How are you finding it?
Can you use photo information, such as date and geo location, as the watermark?
Absolutely. There’s a ‘Get Details of Images’ action that gives you access to loads of image data including date and location. Either of these can be made I to the watermark text.
Can you tell me how to convert time details to a water mark?

Can pythonista be called from a share sheet?
Brian Warkentine It certainly can. There are actions to run Pythonista scripts that can then be made into a share sheet shortcut.
does this work on iphone too?
Sure does... Same app different screen size :D
Hi my watermark is blur but I made png image in illustrator and put it Location as per video but some time it is blur. Why
