Thank you once again for sharing. I love making one offs as opposed to sameo sameo and whenever I check out one of your videos mind just races with ideas. And I used to think glass was restricted! Not! We have very little here in Queensland Oz so keep the vids coming.
I love and hate freeze fusing! :p I only have a microwave kiln for now as I wasn't sure I would like glass fusing so it seemed a relatively inexpensive way to start. Figuring out the right moves for freeze fusing with it was hard and took a while. I guess that is true of any kiln though. Thanks for sharing this. One day I hope to have a stand alone kiln. - Heidi
BlackCat2 I couldn't imagine how to do a freeze n fuse piece in a microwave kiln. I hope you get a stand alone kiln soon. I see used kilns quite often on craigslist for a great price. Happy fusing!
Yeah it was not easy and my first thought was I wasting the powdered glass but then I remembered you never really waste glass. :P It can be fused again. So while I couldn't turn it back into a powder easily I could still use it in a piece. :D I love glass fusing and knew it pretty much from the start. My only frustration now is really the size because the microwave kilns (I have 2 now and one is a little bit larger) are really small. My ideas are bigger than what my current kilns can handle. :P Thanks for the CL tip. I will check it out. I found recently a place nearby that has classes and I believe rent a kiln thing too. You have to go there to use it but you don't have to pay much. Maybe I could find out from them how to get a good deal on a larger kiln. :D
So, on the terra cotta piece that you impressed the polymer clay on then cooked, did you take the polymer clay piece out of the terra cotta piece then use it to make a silicone mold?
Hi Susan, You are amazing. Thank you very much for sharing your brilliant ideas with us. A great inspiring. One thing was confusing me. As glass out a mould wants to assume a thickness of 6mm how does it keep the shape during firing? Thank you in advance.
Thank you Susan for your fast reply. one more question if you ever get the time, would you please advise me what temperature do you use for the baby? My kiln has 1 program so two sequences. Thank you again and excuse me for bothering you but founding you like I found a gold mine.
Hidden I’ve heard it’s best to let it sit in the kiln at least an hour or even over night before fusing but the small things I make do just fine without waiting at all.
Really unsure. Do you make 1) Make the paste. 2) Then freeze the shape you have put the glass paste into for a few hours? 4) then pop it out of the mould
MrsJ Stinnett you can embed small amounts of metal into fused glass. Too much and the glass could crack from stress. Metal can always be added after it’s been fused with a little glue. 😁
Thanks again for a great video.
Very cool technique. I've never seen this before. It makes my mind run wild with the possibilities.
Glenn Woolum That makes me so happy!

Thank you Margaret Slater!
Great instruction.
A WONDERFUL ARTIST & TEACHER! I HAVE TAKEN MANY CLASSES FROM SUSAN Mc GARRY GLASS.
Thanks you so much! Very informative.

Great idea! Thanks.
good info
Gonesh...lol. ur adorable. Luv ur vids. Thank you so much!

Help before I try this can I use resin in these molds? Thank U.
Have you tried mixing liquid color glass paint with the frit?

Hi Susan,
You are amazing. Thank you very much for sharing your brilliant ideas with us. A great inspiring.
One thing was confusing me. As glass out a mould wants to assume a thickness of 6mm how does it keep the shape during firing? Thank you in advance.
T Helmy I use a VERY low temperature so the glass doesn’t flatten. That’s the “fun” of Freeze N Fuse.

T Helmy my firing schedule is at 11min 30 sec in the video.
Sorry about the spelling mistake *mold
Holding an electric toothbrush against the mold helps air and water rise out.
Heidi Snelgrove great tip!
How long do you freeze it for please?
I am sorry, did I miss you mentioning the firing schedule?
How many hours do you let the frozen glass paste moulded shape sit in the kiln before fusing? I think it’s to let the water evaporate? Is it 24 hours
Hidden I’ve heard it’s best to let it sit in the kiln at least an hour or even over night before fusing but the small things I make do just fine without waiting at all.
Using Kiln wash like Premo on your terracotta should have kept the glass from sticking.
Really unsure. Do you make 1) Make the paste. 2) Then freeze the shape you have put the glass paste into for a few hours? 4) then pop it out of the mould
Hidden yes! Once you have a mold, make a glass paste, freeze the glass paste, then pop is out & straight into the kiln for fusing. Easy!
Can you embed items or metal in your glass either before or after fusing and firing your glass?
MrsJ Stinnett you can embed small amounts of metal into fused glass. Too much and the glass could crack from stress. Metal can always be added after it’s been fused with a little glue. 😁
I will give it a try thank you..
where can I get firing schedule? Went by too fast!
Lynn Spence it’s best to use you own firing schedule anyway because there are so many factors that effect it.
Glassline paint..
