    Very cool! I started my glass fusing fanaticism with a microwave kiln and I loved it! I even bought a separate microwave for it. I now have a small (table top small) Paragon kiln for the jewelry I make because I have no room for a full sized kiln. This video brought back some fun memories. Thank you for sharing! 😊

    Love it. Thanks for sharing this how to. Do you remember approximately how long you zapped it? That’s a lot of glass. Really turned out well.

      When casting scraps in a form you fire at 100% power so it's just "done when it's done". LOL! That varies a LOT depending on your kiln and oven. This was a small kiln, 1100W oven, it was maybe 7 or so minutes, give or take. As soon as you see a good glow, you just check every minute and then every 30 seconds as usual.

      I can’t explain at length here in comments but repair depends on where the damage is, on the sides or in the base. There are a few videos on UA-cam for kiln repair but for more detailed and personalized help with your particular damage, join the FB group called Microwave Kiln Fusing Fanatics

      I don't have a link, it was just a really cheap one I picked up on sale in a local lumber store. I believe there are many similar on Amazon or even Ebay. Just look for the cheapest rotary tool you can find and it's probably the same thing! :-D

    what can you use to secure the thinfire in complex shapes? It keeps moving and not tucking into corners and the paper is only 6" and if I add more it goes into middle of cutter. Can you use a mold release spray instead of the thinfire?

    • @ravennorejko4492
      @ravennorejko4492 2 роки тому

      In the video it shows that the glue is spread on the cookie cutter and you push the strips into any curves and angles as you go. You might need to work slower with complex shapes to give the glue a chance to get tacky. You can use more than one strip, just overlap slightly at the ends. Yes, you can use mold release spray.

    Hi,
    Thanks for sharing that video! Can you please tell me how long you microwaved the piece for? I have an 1100 watt and was hoping to do some similar sized items in SS mini molds. Thanks!

    • @ravennorejko4492
      @ravennorejko4492 2 роки тому

      It’s a very visual process and each project will time a bit different. Start visually checking when the orange glow in the vent is visible and in 30ish second intervals after until the glass texture is where you want it.

    • @ravennorejko4492
      @ravennorejko4492 2 роки тому

      Both the thinfire and any coating on the stainless steel will burn off and create an odor. Be sure you have proper ventilation.

    • @ravennorejko4492
      @ravennorejko4492 2 роки тому

      There is only thinfire paper underneath. It was previously fired under another piece so it turned to powder. I let a few layers build up sometimes before cleaning it off.

    ❤ using metal cookie cutter safe in the microwave?

    • @ravennorejko4492
      @ravennorejko4492 9 місяців тому +1

      It is safe in the kiln. The inside of the kiln is also a metallic compound. That is why it gets so hot.

  • @brucestevens2639
    @brucestevens2639 4 роки тому

    I love the concept and the results. Did you actually fire the stainless steel in a microwave oven? I didn't think you could put metal in one. Fantastic!!

    • @ravennorejko4492
      @ravennorejko4492 4 роки тому +7

      The steel is inside the kiln and can be fired safely in the MW oven. The interior surface of the MW kiln is actually a metallic mineral coating which is one of the reasons it gets hot enough for glass fusing.
