    Cool processes-thanks for sharing!
    I learned a simple formula to ensure you have enough glass for a melt. Volume of finished shape in cubic inches multiplied by density of glass (Bullseye is .09) = pounds of glass needed.
    Example-7”x7” square that you want to be 3/8” thick would need 7x7x.375x.09=1.6538 pounds of glass-Enjoy!

    Thanks jamaison for a fun ride. I do think a drop is a good idea bcs the stretching will thin it out ur tile n show some transparency. For ur leftover mix, making a thicker slab or a pattern bar that u then cut strip off of may reveal interesting patterns.
    But fair warning. Once u start on drop vessels, u get easily hooked. Good luck

    Drop would be cool, itmight also slice and be interesting as a feature with clear, lighter colors… next time you could try using the reactive frit bend as a cascade “feature”, or channel on a plainer platter… thanks for sharing!

    Hey! Just a thought but adding a bunch of clear frit in might have helped to avoid a brown out. Maybe 50% clear and 50% turq/vanilla mix. Since its not square, try doing a round deep drop out and see what happens.

    • @JamaisonSchuler
      @JamaisonSchuler  6 місяців тому

      Yes, I agree more clear would have helped. I’m thinking round drop will be fun!

  • @FullMoonLoonDesigns
    @FullMoonLoonDesigns 6 місяців тому

    Yes, do a drop! You could first add some of the fired gold to it in some random squiggly lines and it would look gorgeous!

      Yup, great way to repurpose it. Then cast it into hearts, paws, etc? I use my broken castoffs to make paws for the local animal shelter. facebook.com/share/p/NGXSEjvxhPAAaCxr/?mibextid=WC7FNe

    Thanks again Jamaison! What is spalling?
    Also, my understanding is that we should run a magnet through the homemade frit to collect any metal pieces.
    Would that only be for when you use the frit making machine or a blender? 🤔🐢

    • @JamaisonSchuler
      @JamaisonSchuler  6 місяців тому +2

      Spalling is when the metal casts off little chips and flakes as it cools. It doesn’t harm the glass but it does make a mess. And would really mess up the ZYP. And yes, the magnet is just when you use a blender or frit piston. That’s an extra step I get to ski using this technique.

    What you do is sooooo much safer and cleaner for the glass,, the metals in the mix is terrible and I have glass from 1 company that has kiln dust in it and they are horrible to work with. But I didn't know that till after I bought a lot of glass from Devardi Glass. So they claim the glass glass is shocky because of the colors,,, but there are lots of glass artist that no longer order from them. They did tell me my clear Rods had black spots in them because of the Kiln dust/dirt, so be careful about the glass Rods and sheets you buy and don't risk dirt in your glass.

    A lady I know puts her glass in the legs of old jeans to crush it. I haven’t tried that yet, I use the paper as well.

      That’s a great idea! The denim should hold up well! I’ve also heard the thick zippered plastic pouches that sheets/bedding sets come in could be good, if even just for one time use.

    I’m thinking if you put the white side to the outside of the drop that it will make a cool drop. It’s a huge piece of glass but the thickest part is only 12mm that will limit how much of a drop you can do.

    • @JamaisonSchuler
      @JamaisonSchuler  6 місяців тому

    Jamaison, did you hold your anneal for 2 hours because you had 6 mm thickness? I'm preparing to do a bunch of clear tekta but it is all 3mm... Would 60 minutes be ok for the anneal at that thickness?

    • @JamaisonSchuler
      @JamaisonSchuler  4 місяці тому

      Yes, 60 min is fine for 3mm!

    • @JamaisonSchuler

      To be clear, that anneal was for the finished piece I made, not for the plunging of the frit. There’s obviously no anneal for that.
