Very nice video. Informative for those who choose to make their own swarm traps as you and I do. I have been also getting ready for our season of swarms.
I make mine much the same and they work great. I do mark the direction of the lids front and back because if they are a little out of square they may fit perfectly one way but not the other. Great video!
Very informative video, good work If I can add anything to all you said, make them as light as possible, that added weight to a nice swarm can make your life miserable when transporting to the car/truck; I made a lot of these over the years, even sold a lot of them, and learned that the lighter they are, the better experience you have on catching swarms. YOU SHOULD CUT ALUM ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE SHORT WAY THEN CUT THE LONG WAY ELIMINATING THE SHARP STRIP THAT FLAILS AROUND WHILE RELEASING NEEDED PIECE. BEND EDGES AWAY FROM CURVE OF THE ROLL. YOU ALSO LEAVE SHARP EDGES ON ALUM. OUCH, I USE RUBBER ROOFING
I usually heat up and smear slum gum from my solar wax melter inside the hive. Works well. I agree with you that it helps to do something to the inside of the hive from fresh wood. Thanks for the comment from Oregon!
Great. I live in Jax but just put some out at my property in Gainesville on Sunday Mar 10th. Not totally ready for a hive so it was a if I get one great, if not NDB.
Thank you! Very informative. Greetings from Australia
Great vid, thanks for sharing. Imagine what your going to achieve when you grow up and start using Millimetres😊
Great video to get me hyped about swarm traps, tis the season. Keep up the great work!
Thanks! Will do!
Well done Chuck! Well thought out and should last a long time.
Thank you!

look'n good
Thanks for the comment!
I had bees make a home in styrofoam cooler. The cooler was a winter shelter for cats.
That sounds like an easy retrieval.
Do you sell your swarm boxes and if you do are they available in kit form
I'm just playing❤

Great tip there. Thank you.
OR USE PEEL AND STICK ROOFING@@chuckshoneybees
They work
You ever try burning a new trap to get accepted quicker or wax the inside I think it helps mine . Watching rain/UA-cam in Oregon

What swarm lure do you use in step with used frames?
I use a lemon grass oil lure.
Do you have any issues with the bees sealing the cover to the box?
I use a layer of double bubble as an inner cover.
Where do you buy the aluminum for the roof ?
I order 24 in aluminum online at homedepot.com as i could not find this dimension in store.
@@chuckshoneybees found it, thanks.
What time of year do you put them out?
My peak swarm season is 1st-3rd week of March, but early swarms as early as mid-February .. that is my timeline.

@@stampiestamps Can'g catch a swarm without putting out your traps... Actually that is not completely true, but you get my point.
Hey Chuck, Great Video! What filament do you use to make your entrance dials...ABS?
PETG, for UV Resistance. ABS or ASA would be good and maybe even better, just a bit more difficult to print.
How much do you charge for your boxes
I don't sell my swarm traps, they are for personal use.
This method will save me so much time from the method I use. Thanks!
You're welcome!
What program was that you used to make the swarm traps?
I just have an excel sheet that I created t calculate dimensions off of the necessary internal dimension of 18 3/8 for the frames.
Thank you!
That was very helpful!
You're welcome!
