We have a 4240, savage tractor, never gave a bit of trouble 25 years, until lately with the hydraulic pump going but even so couldn't fault the amount of work with it, the way I look at it a tractor is there to do a job and if it doesn't don't keep it, regardless of the colour. Think that is a love little tractor. Love the videos
Ah, my 4240 fixes a few gremlins (still has plenty), 15 more Horses, XL cab which has aircon and heating (neither work on mine though), a solid roof to keep sun off noggin But most important and what I use with the flail mower are the half gears (switch on gear stick), giving 8 total, a godsend The best thing about the 4200 series its the last of Analogue tractors, all mechanical which you can fix easily Some good pointers shown in video, I'll look at mine at to possibly improve hydraulic speed Love my old girl, currently replacing seal on transfer case driveshaft (to front diff) was leaking oil profusely, can try some hydraulic tweaks wth a fresh batch of (correctt :) ) oil and filters
The hy-tran oil is a bit of an old wives tale. It was best suited to the hydro models that IH built in the 70s and early 80s where the transmission components were very sensitive. We've had numerous models of those Doncaster IH & Case IH models over the years with syncromesh and powershift transmissions. We only ever used standard 10W30 and never had any issues. Some lucky owner is getting a good tractor!
Good man Declan, honest as always. Best of luck to the new owner and best of luck to you with the new purchase. Can't beat an upgrade,a bit more horse power always gives you the option to upgrade or even purchase new machines to make things handy around the farm. Fair play 👍💚
@@cameronperryagri4155 I have a neighbour with a Ford 7840 and every morning during winter he has to go out with a hair dryer and warm the wires so it’ll even start when new Holland took over the completely re did the wiring in them
Sometimes it takes a few tractors to figure out what you really need. Atleast you worked on and figured out a lot of the issues. The only thing I'm not sure about is why the mower had to be in float. I just set mine and go. Good luck with the new one. Maybe a tour of the farm. Thanks for sharing
Yeah I agree, people don't like the idea of getting rid of a 'Good' Tractor but looking at it as a machine I want something that can compete with modern tractors and can handle modern machinery. In regards to the mower. I have tried leaving the spool in neutral instead of float but I would be getting a very uneven cut with the mower. Float made it cut much more even and bare. Perhaps another issue from the case but I will see how it performs in the new tractor. I did a farm tour last year but I do plan to do another one soon to show the difference and more of the farm ! Thanks for your comment

You simply don't know the goings on of the farm so you will not understand but yes stock numbers are low currently as things are slowly changing hand. We have the room for much more expansion. We have a great stock bull there and a few great cows. I need more shed space and that's the unfortunate truth. I now have space in the hay shed unlike previous years where we had the shed filled with hay. But there is no security in that cos you never know when we get a massive crop of hay and fill it up. On too of that it would take some investment and drinkers. I plan to get a suitable shed up asap but again that take alot of money time and planning. But I'm trying my hardest!
