As a native English speaker I can assure you that most people feel the same way about the classics. They are a good story but they are more difficult to read because of the older style of English and are not very fun.

Kelsey Ogden i know theres a series that redid classics...so it added a more modern twists to them.

I find it so fascinating that you didn't speak english all the way up to highschool! You are so fluent and besides your accent I wouldn't really be able to tell that it's not your first language. How did you do that? I'd love to be that fluent in German someday but it seems so out of reach.

I came over here from your beauty channel! I love how multi-faceted you are! You have inspired me to read more ("The Female of the Species" will be first. You saying it had a feminist message sold me!) You are such a strong positive role model! ❤️

Great vid!! I love your wrap-ups, you always pick up a couple of books I've never heard of/not heard of recently, which is great, I feel like a lot of booktubers talk about the same books. So refreshing, I always add a couple of your reads to my own to-be-read list!

In my high school French class, we never broached the subject of French classics, let alone tried to read one! Super interesting to hear that you had to read that in English. I didn't even have to read that for any of my lit classes, lol. I'm reading We Are Okay right now, and I NEVER read contemporary novels. I was wondering if you've ever read any of Megan Abbott's novels? They're adult thrillers that focus on the dark side of girls! Love both of your channels so much, Emily! xx

Ha cool to see that we've apperently decided to read the same classics this last two months, currently in the middle of 1984. And I definitely should read 'The female of the species' soon!

I read Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson last week since it sounded so interesting and loved it! I started The Heart of Betrayal the other day and can't wait to continue! I haven't read The Female of the Species, but the way you described it's good message while still dealing with heavy topics reminded me of the author Ellen Hopkins' books. Her books deal with pretty serious topics so they're not necessarily "light reads" but they're really moving and my absolute favorites! :)

I ❤️ Jane Eyre but I can definitely understand your points! I guess I'd say the Brontë sisters' body of work on a whole are much darker than Austen's novels (I haven't read them all though!) So where P&P has themes of the socio-economic and imbalance of a social hierarchy, Jane Eyre has themes about the psychological repercussions of that life. I do love Rochester though and maybe that's only because Michael Fassbender plays him in the film & he bae. You should watch it if you get a chance! But also geddit girl with them classics 👏🏽

I LOVED illuminae but was less sold on Gemina. I'm not a big ya reader unless it's for my job but illuminae was definitely one I read and enjoyed for myself. 😊
I keep WANTING to like Saga but man... I could not deal with it. I felt like there were so many places where plot was skipped over for a chance to be vulgar or gruesome.

The only thing I enjoy about being sick is all the books I get to read while lying in bed. lol but I am glad you are feeling better.
I have been wanting to read more by Brandon Sanderson because of how great Mistborn was. I will have to check out Elantris.
I am going to start Illuminae next week for my IRL bookclub. I can't wait. It seems very different and interesting.
I love the new editions of all the Harry Potter school books. So simple and neat and streamlined. I will be waiting for my Hogwarts letter until the day I die.
I love how you put air quotes around "read" in high school. Same girl, same...

I'm currently reading the kiss of deception, morning star, a torch against the night. loved Fahrenheit 451 I can't remember it being a difficult read but maybe it was it's been so long ago. truthwitch I really agree with you about it. I did not like how there was repeating phrases and I just don't there was enough magic used. I heard the 2 ND book is better

I love the Illuminae Files! Gemina is better than Illuminae!! I love the format of that series. It reads so fast.
Ah! I agree that Fantastic Beasts soooo should have had pictures!!! It could have been sooo epic with pictures!
I loved Fahrenheit 451!! It's such a good dystopian and scary that they burned all the books! Ahhhhh! I feel like it has a similar feel to 1984.
Truthwitch! Yesssss!! I love the world so so so much! Book two gives so much world building and I just adore this world.
p.s. I am in love with your emoji poo shirt hahaha!

    Hi
I remember I read Fahrenheit 451, I was not used to read in english yet and i am pretty happy I discovered it in french . There are so many metaphors. Every phrase! Maybe you should try it in french too, i remember I liked it a lot.
And I was so surprised too when I realised "I am legend" was about a blond guy living surrounded by vampires. So far from Will Smith and his zombies. xD But, I really liked it too.
And so, I think you should try "La planète des singes". I liked the film a lot, but totally loved the book. That's a book that is very hard to adapt to the cinema. So it's a little like "I am legend": tiny book, same kind of story but the point of view is different. The original version is in french (yes, very far from Hollywood ^^) by Pierre Boule.

I am 100% on board with you on Jane Eyre. I could not stand Mr. Rochester and I could not understand why people love this book as a romance. The coming-of-age elements I thought were interesting enough on their own, but lord I absolutely hated the ending of it because of the romance

I read Saga in April too and man was it strange lol I was not expecting the explicit sex scenes at all or them having libraries in their universe. I read the remaining 6 volumes and it does get better but by the 6-7th there's a lot of plot lines that it kinda of gets confusing and a bit boring but overall still a great series!

I could never get behind the romance in Jane Eyre, it always seemed creepy and manipulative to me :/ I feel like people would always put that love story in the same category as Jane Austen romances but I could never get into it

Bradbury sucks at exposition which bothers me in novels. I need to see the world around me which is why I couldn't appreciate this until I read the graphic adaptation.
