Wow so much reading! :)
YOU ARE LITERALLY MY FAVOURITE BOOKTUBER! i get so excited when your videos come out and it always gets me out of a reading slump!
Aw thank you!! ❤️
Enjoyed the stats! I'm always amazed by how much you read each month. I'm going to record the Reread, Rewrite, or Burn tag tomorrow for my channel :) I just started the book The Couple Next Door today. Hope you have a Happy Halloween!
I'm currently listening to it! Hope you're enjoying it.
I am Dominic! I stayed up late reading it last night! :)
Love all the stats that you added at the beginning, I think they're so interesting to look at a reading month from that point of view.
I'll keep adding them :)
Please do a video on the complaints you have about popular YA books!!! I'd click play so fast once I got the notification because I'm so eager to hear your thoughts. I really love your eye liner and lashes in this video.
Oooo, I like the stats! I might have to start doing that in my monthly wrap ups, too.
Also, I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your videos. I had no idea that BookTube and the online bookish community existed until you started this channel and announced it on your makeup channel, and there's been no looking back ever since. I've even started my own blog! So yeah, I'm always excited when I have a new BookswithEmilyFox video in my subscription feed :-)
You should do more review videos of the books, specially about the ones that are so popular but you hate and say you have so much to say. I’m definitely interested on that
Great job on all the reading you accomplished this month!
Thank you :)
I love it so much that you read so many thrillers, always get inspirations in these videos! Also I love both Celeste Ng books and gave both 5 stars but I think I prefer Everything I Never Told you more. Great video!
I pretty much only read them during the fall so I went hard lol
I can't wait to read that one!
I love how genre-aware your reviews are? And culturally conscious? It feels like you judge books on very fair terms and make the distinctions really accessible? Not like explicitly in every video, but as a theme. (Clearly I, fresh out of midterms, have lost touch with accessibility 😩). Idk, we have totally different taste in books, but your reviews address all the questions I would have and it’s very satisfying to watch?? 👌👌 book reviews
I love your earrings, Emily!
Thank you! :)
What's the best book you've read this month? :)
BookswithEmilyFox down among the sticks and bones and The Obelisk Gate by NK Jemisin
Little Fires Everywhere and Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine.
I have yet to read NK Jemisin's books! I need to get to it ASAP!
I really like Outlander by Diana Gabaldon!
Either Turtles All The Way Down by John Green or Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead
I would love a YA rant video!! I definitely feel the same way about a lot of them haha. I keep giving them a shot but mostly I'm disappointed...
They can be very hit and miss :S
Great wrap up as always Emily! I read The Diviners (book 1) this month and would totally recommend it. I also read Red Rising (book 1) and would also recommend that as well! 😊
I've wondering about the Diviners! I'll have to check it out :)
I feel you, YA is a sketchy terrain. You need a lot of luck to find gems.
October was a bit of meh torwards the end, the thrillers I've read were not very good. Oh well, better books will come.
Also, I like the stats! And yes, I want a review for mara dyer.
Yay! I enjoy the stats! great reading month for you!! :)
I like the addition of the stats!
I'll definitely keep adding them :)
I never thought about putting average number of or overall pages read in monthly stats on my blog but I love that idea!
Pines sounds really interesting! Definitely going to need to check it out!
I read Dark Matter and loved it too - thanks for reminding me that I should look up some of Blake Crouch's other stuff :)
I tend to forget to check what other books from authors I liked! I need to do it more :)
The Running Man, Pines, Wayward, and Behind Her Eyes definitely sound like something I would read. I really enjoyed your video and I subscribed. :)
I guessed the end of Behind Her Eyes about halfway through, as I had heard so much about the ending is unexpected and I may have glimpsed one of the shelves a Goodreads friend had it on... Definitley do not want to know too much about a thriller before you start :)
Love all your recommendations! Picked up Her Every Fear for my November TBR.
Also please do a video on Stephen King books 🤗🤗
I've only read a few of his books but in the future I will!
Let me know how you find Her Every Fear! :)
Its next on my list. Will surely let you know :)
Great video! The best book(s) I’ve read in October were rereads: “The Secret History” by Donna Tartt and “Jane Eyre” by Charlotte Brontë ❤️
So you love "The Secret History"? I haven't read anything from Donna Tartt yet but I've been wanting to!
I enjoyed Behind Her Eyes, I actually had to read the ending over, just make sure I had it right. I don't have a great memory, I'm pretty sure I would not be able to keep the characters all straight in Sleeping Beauties. I just enjoy your videos so much Emily.
Two awesome horror/thriller books I read this month were The Troop and bird Box!
Good reading month, Emily! I actually had 2 5 Star books this month (this is incredibly rare, I am super stingy with my stars), Scythe by Neal Shusterman and The Refrigerator Monologues by Catherynne M Valente. I absolutely loved both of them, esp Monologues. It's a series of short stories all revolving around the forgotten/killed/used to further the male superhero's storyline women in the comics. All of the main characters have "female problems" such as depression, "too much" ambition, mental health, etc. I devoured it, laughed, even teared up (there's a story that hit kinda close to home for me.)
I am buying Pines today. I also loved Dark Matter, and I trust your opinion, eager to read! Thanks for another great video!
Yay for being stingy with stars too haha
Let me know how it goes! I'm a little wary of recommending it because the twist won't be up everyone's alley!
Yes , continue doing more videos with stats.
Will do :)
Yay a great month of reading! What lipstick shade are you wearing, it looks stunning on you!
Essence Matt Matt Matt lipstick in 02!
Thank you! I actually have that lipstick and I will definitely have to wear it :)
I read Bird Box and liked it way more than I thought I was going to. Still reading The Stand. I hope you like Pet Sematary, that is my favorite King book so far!
I loved the bits about how it started happening! The sense of dread also in the present time line was so intense!
I plan on reading The Stand next year - actually I plan to read a bunch of big books I've ben dreading lol
I have Elantris Brandon sanderson and kiss of deception on order per your recommendation. Cant wait to start them
Let me know how it goes :D
would love to see a complaint vid! and the stats are a nice addition :)
Great video!
Run by Blake Crouch is one of my favorites - definitely worth checking out!
I was actually wondering if the rest of his books were worth the read... I'll have to check that one!
BookswithEmilyFox Run is my favorite behind Dark Matter. I like it even more than the Whispering Pines series.
Would you ever do a French video? Trying to learn French in College and I am trying to find more and more videos with French speakers. Do you have any recommendations?
Really like the addition of the stats! And omg yesss Mara Dyer! So much potential but it was just disappointing and eugh
I was waiting for things to get better the whole time... Towards the end it finally went back to the paranormal stuff but... barely :(
It's definitely between The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis or The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood. They were so good!!
I loved The Female of the Species! I haven't read The Blind Assassin yet though!
If you're into those post apocalyptic disease type of books, you should check out The Passage trilogy by Justin Cronin! It will be turned into a tv show too, somewhere at the end of 2018
I had also loved reading the Passage trilogy
I have the first one on my shelves!
I watched Wayward Pines but I didn't know they were books.I have to read them!
The books are so addicting!
i just bought behind her eyes and sleeping beauty.....so excited.
Hope you'll like them :)
I test read the first chapter of mara dyer and thought it was interesting. Hmm cheesy romances don't bother me much so I might like it still.
Thanks for letting us know about the Wayward Pines book vs. the show, because I *hated* the show! I had won Dark Matter in a giveaway and was hesitant to read it because of hating the show so much, but I gave it a chance and it was *fantastic!* It's now become one of my go to books to recommend.
They kept changing important plot points and it was so frustrating... every thing I loved about it was changed :(
Dark Matter was awesome! I'm sure you would like the books of the Pines series better than the show!
I've noticed movies/shows that are done with M. Knight Shamalan, the premise is intriguing but the resulting story usually is a big let down. I seem to have forgotten that when it comes to this series! I'm going to pick up Pines and hopefully love it as much as Dark Matter
On Book Depository's website, it states that they're currently having issues sending packages to Canada and Brazil, so that might be why your book you ordered Oct 3rd hasn't arrived yet.
Yeah I noticed right after this video... still having to wait a month to finish this trilogy is torture lol
The book I am reading right now I would totally recommend to you: it’s “Anima” by Wajdi Mouawad, it’s a thriller/mystery type of novel that takes place in Canada (at least for now, I believe the main character will travel at some point), and the entire story (so far, at least - I’m around 1/3 in ) is told from the point of view of every animal he crosses path with: so for example the man finding his dead wife is described by the cat (at page 1, so it’s not a spoiler!), and then there’s an ant describing his phone call, seagulls describing his walk, spiders, pigs, boas, monkeys...it’s brilliant (although the sex scenes are a bit...awkward I would say xD ). I would also recommend “The Power” by Naomi Alderman (which is all over BookTube, no need for presentations) because I think it’s a book that could start a very interesting conversation.
Loved the Wrap Up with more stats
I'm currently reading Life As We Knew It by Susan Pfeffer but I've been reading Stephen King's books also! I read Salem's Lot recently and loved it. Hope you like Pet Semetary, I have yet to read that one.
I've been wanting to read Salem's Lot! Happy to hear you loved it :)
BookswithEmilyFox it’s so great!
... I'd love to see a video where you discuss these types of YA books! Unfortunately sometimes I feel that's the most common kind 😌
somehow the first part of my comment was deleted 🙈 I was just saying how it looks like you had a great reading month and that I totally get what you're saying about Mara Dyer. I quite enjoyed it as a teen but there's no way I could get into that now
I'll definitely do that :)
Please! Read Power of One by Bryce Courtenay! I need a booktuber to read it so I can hear someone elses opinion!!!
Hi. I have not read any Stephen King books, because I have never been a big fan of horror books, but I love reading mysteries and thrillers and fantasy books. I will look into the Pines book and series a little bit later, after I get done with some other projects. I have just finished reading/listening to the book This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab, and I think tomorrow I am going to start reading/listening to the second book in this duology called Our Dar Duet by the same author. I found the first book to be very engaging and so I am hoping this next book. I am also just about to finish reading the manga series Kamisama Kiss which is about a young girl who becomes a Land God or Kamisama, and her developing relationship with a fox spirt that she teams up with. I also read the Halloween Tree, which is what the animated movie of the same name was used on. It was a fun quick read/listen. I also listened to the book Killing Reagan, which is all about the President Ronald Reagan and his life before, during, and after he was president. I thought it was really neat to read about a President who was in office when I was a little girl and was too young to know anything about him. I have some other biographies that I may read for the non fiction November read-a-thon. I will let you know which one I wind up reading.
Stephen King has so many books that aren't horror :) The Bill Hodges trilogy (Mr. Mercedes, Finders Keepers, End of watch) is more of a thriller/crime, The stand is a post-apocalypse thriller, The green mile is crime/drama, 11/22/63 is a time travel-thriller and so on...he also has some fantasy books.
Hey girl, how do you do your reading stats?
Oh, and my favorite book this month was Extreme Makeover by Dan Wells. The plot sounds ridiculous but at the same time he makes is plausible and absolutely terrifying.
Have you tried reading The Stand by Stephen King? Your past video, you mentioned reading The Long Walk. I dnf it. But after seeing your video i think im gonna give it another try 😂
2 podcast recommendations
it's a mystery podcast &
Meet the thriller author
Hope you enjoy listening 👍
I love the stats! I would like to know approximately how many pages you read per day or per hour. It seems when I divide out about 4000 pages over 30 days it is about 133 pages per day. Is that about your average? It seems like you're reading more than that! Also, if you have any tips on how to incorporate more reading throughout the day. I try to read during my commute in the metro. I'm not a nighttime reader; I instantly fall asleep when I start reading in bed.
I usually average 100 pages a day but it's not consistent. Some days it's 300, some it's 0. Plus I always end up with 1-2 audiobooks - they're good when cooking, cleaning, or working out!
Yes!! Rant video!!! :P
I think I remember giving an 3 rating for Pines. I think more for the climax than anything else. I did end up really enjoying Dark Matter though. I would say my favorite book this month was Anno Dracula by Kim Newman
The ending of Pines won't be for everyone but it was right up my alley! :D
you should read 'catch me' from Lisa Gardner
I'm so glad you liked Pines!! Hopefully you get the 3rd one soon! Where did you find the tv show? I was looking for it, but never found it.
It's called wayward pines and it's on fox
You also liked the trilogy? How was the 3rd book, I'm scared the ending won't be as good as I hope!
I stream my shows online :/
BookswithEmilyFox I really liked the trilogy! It's hard to react to the ending without giving anything away, but I really liked it. I'm super curious to hear what you think! I'll comment more after you read it. I pretty much want to read everything else he's written now.
On the Book Depository is says that they are currently experiencing problems with delivery to Canada and it will take longer than usual 😱. I ordered the book Our Dark Duet a couple days ago because I loved This Savage Song so much and I saw this advisory but I had no idea it would take THAT long! Booooo! I hope we don't get charged customs now too 😧
Ps my favorite book I read this month was This Savage Song (clearly lol) but it was followed closely by Wonder Woman Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo. Totallly different books but both fast paced good reads :)
There's never any duties so that's that at least! They usually ship pretty fast but it's been a month now :(
How many hours a day do you read?
I can read king fast either. That's why I tend to only read 2-3 of his books a year.
I may have overdone it lol I think after Pet Sematary I'll take a break!
Love your videos! Have you read the dark tower series by Stephen King?
I've read the first one... I wasn't a big fan :(
They are some of my favorites, Needful Things too!
Bookdepository is currently having issues with shipping to Canada! Not sure why or when it will be fixed.
I just saw that! It's frustrating but oh well... I'll wait a bit longer :(
Just curious did you know Joe Hill is Stephen Kings son? You did his review right after SKs so I’m wondering... 😅
"Hat-tipping, neckbeard, m'lady kind of thing" is literally the best expression for that type of behaviour, haha
All I was missing is the fedora :P
I really like the stats!
I'll keep adding them :)
I love a good thriller. I am reading The Kind Worth Killing now. I’m excited. Apparently it’s going to be a movie.
I really disliked the Fireman- I can’t put my finger on why- I should’ve liked it but something about it rubbed me the wrong way.
I LOVED The Kind Worth Killing! After reading it, I bought his other 2 books and saw he has a new book coming out April 2018. :)
That's good to know! I can totally see it as a movie!
Please do a 'Rant Video'
I've never really read anything in the thriller/horror genre, but the premise of "Sleeping Beauties" sounds intriguing. Is it still relatable & enjoyable for people unfamiliar or unsure about the genre or King's works?
It is but only if you don't mind very long books with lots of characters!
If you usually read things that are a bit more fast paced, you'll probably be turned off.
My favorite read from SK is The Long Walk if you're looking for something a bit shorter!
BookswithEmilyFox Thanks! I definitely think I'll at least try to read it 😬
No Stephen King book has ever gotten my attention till Sleeping Beauties! It sounds really good and interesting. I am not into horror so I think this book would be a good baby step into Stephen King.
It won't be baby step... there's no baby step with him :P
But seriously some of the characters will make you rage a little lol
im reading "it" boy its huge.good tho!
It took me so long too! Let me know how you feel about the ending!
I hope you get your book from Book Depository soon. According to their site they have issues with shipping to Canada right now. After I ordered a book I noticed a little banner thing at the bottom so I clicked it and it sends you to their help page and it says Please be aware that we are currently experiencing problems with deliveries into Canada. Unfortunately, due to issues outside of our control, postal services are currently being impacted and deliveries will take longer than usual.
I noticed it after posting this video! A month is torture to finish this trilogy haha
Yes that would suck. My order is a Christmas gift for my husband. Good thing I decided to order it before December
Such a beautiful inspiring reader🙂
I’m still listening to Sleeping Beauties and the no of characters is a problem. I think it’s even harder to keep track of them when audiobooking. Don Peters is a slimy snail.
do you like any romance novels/plotlines? I feel like that's always what bothers you in a book (especially ya) it might not be something you enjoy reading at all
It happens although it's more the exception than the rule!
I did like The Remnant Chronicles and The Winner's Curse trilogy - Both YA Fantasy/Romance!
I love the Mara Dyer trilogy.. lol I guess I just like the cliches with books.. but then again I’m 15 😂
There's nothing wrong about liking it though! It's just my blaze opinion as an old cold hearted woman :P
One of the books from my last order from the Book Depository took more than 6 weeks to get to me in Ottawa! To be fair, some of the books did arrive a week after I placed the order...and no, none of the books were on back order (they were all shipped within two days of the order).
The Pines sounds like my cup of tea! I think I'll put it on my list...I watched the trailer for the show, but I just don't really like the lead actor, so I might skip watching it.
They're usually much quicker but they're apparently having issues for Canada :(
The books are better so... :P
I know, better prices and better book covers :D
😁love your channel !!!!
I'd be interested in a video about YA's overhype. I've attempted so many YA books that were given high praise by booktubers and been disappointed almost every time. There isn't any substance to them and I find myself rolling my eyes at so much of what the characters are saying. Like book junk food, okay once in awhile but you can't have it all the time.
Yeah they're not all made equal :S
I have read Pines and watched the first season and loved it both ( I try to not compare the book to the show because the show being different from the books does not make it bad), but then the second season was so horrible oh my god, they should have made this show a mini-series and just stuck with 1 season.
I was just frustrated how they kept changing things that were important and it made no sense anymore :(
I'm waiting to finish season 1 when I read the third book but I see hearing season 2 is bad so we'll see :P
What lipstick are you wearing
Essence Matt Matt Matt in 02!
Are you participating in Non fiction November readathon???
No November is going to be crazy busy for me so I didn't want to commit to it!
I actually love your honesty, and review ! God bless, Jesus loves ya 💕✨✨💓
Running man and hunger games are very similar... it just struck me
i watched the tv series for pines a while ago and i found the plot interesting but the show was just SO BADDDDD, like it wasnt very well made and things were just executed so bad in a way that didnt make sense???idk it just got worse by episode and i was sad because i liked the plot????
so i just wanted to ask if 1 you are enjoying the tv show or if you think its really bad compared to the books? and if so if 2 i should read the books, bc i really liked the idea of it.
I mention it in this video lol
yeah but you just said that you scream at your screen that it doesnt happen like that in the book not that its BAD hahaha lol sorry i just wanted a opinion about it.
Fair enough! The show wasn't horrible but they changed a bunch of things that were good in the book. I'm not done yet since I don't want to spoil the last book but so far it's meh. The books were very good though :)
I watched the tv show first and then read the books. This rarely happens but I really liked both of them. Maybe try the books if you are interested in the plot/story
YA is really annoying to me lately because I'm an adult but I keep falling for them when people say they loved it or it has great reviews
so you love makeup, you love books & you're beautiful & funny.? my best friend doesn't know she's my best friend 😇🤗
I agree about Don Peter's. Ahggggggggg.
Reading about him thinking he was too generous and that basically women were taking advantage of him made me physically sick...
I agree with you about Mara Dyer it was the most confusing trilogy I have ever read like you said it had potential, but I was really disappointed in the end and I had difficulty with what was real and what wasn't. Mara was a very unreliable character!
I think book depository are having some problem with theirdelicery to Canada... :/
I saw that on their website... I wouldn't mind if I wasn't in the middle of the series lol
I have a list of characters that I would willingly throw into Game of Thrones...
Hahaha that's actually such a nice way to put it!
Where are your earings from?
Forever 21!
BookswithEmilyFox thanks you I love them!!
When I watched big little lies I was like: but it's not like in the book!! I preferred the book better than the show. For behind her eyes, I was fustrated by the end to be honest but I enjoyed reading it for it was entertaining and page turning for sure.
Agreed! I did prefer the book too!
It was a good page turner... I can understand why people wouldn't like it if they're not into sci fi though lol
You're the woman of my dreams, just because you're a book lover.
Behind her eyes genuinely made me so angry because of the twist 🙈
As I was watching this my boyfriend heard you mention The Running Man movie and he advises you NOT to watch it because apparently it’s pretty bad! Cheesy 80s action. -Becks
Noted! haha
If you know going in that it's cheesetastic you can enjoy it for what it is- pure 80's *awesomeness!!*
The running man movie is very corny... Arnold Schwarzenegger is in it and I’m a huge fan of his movies but not a fan of The Running Man. Also I’ve never read the Running Man but from what I’ve heard you speak of about it, the movie is completely different from the book but along the same premise. Let us know if you watch it.
I'm not sure I will lol
Owen king is Joe Hill or does Stephen King have more than one son?
I think he has 2 sons
Owen King and Joe Hill are both Stephen King's sons
Carolyn Visser yes I know. That wasn't my question. I was asking if Joe Hill was Owen King since Joe Hill is not his real name I thought
Joe Hill is not Owen King. They are different sons.
Brianne Williams thanks!
The stats are a good idea, but I think you should leave out the page and word count because that really isn't interesting to anyone besides yourself. It's just a long number. Still loved the video tho :-)
Noted!
what an annoying comment
Great job but why don't you try reading Dan Brown's books. They are awesome, and I know you gonna like them!!
I've read a few!
Yes, Mara Dyer was just not good. I thought I was the only one who disliked it. Haha
