    Always appreciate the shout out. This is an interesting discussion especially with some saying keep it sealed vs better to open it. It comes down to this- it’s your collection. Do what you want and enjoy it Always a great job Chance keeping everything rolling

    I worked in a record store from 78-80 while in college, we would reseal records regularly. It is easy and common to reseal, so you need to be very trusting to assume a 50 year old record that is sealed has been in that condition since birth. Back in the 70s ,the most coveted records were imports and they were rarely sealed.

      Interesting share, thanks! Hadn’t been aware that practice was common back then. Even MORE reason to #skiptheseal

    Nice to see the full team there. Definitely bought a few resealed records over the years with the punchhole/cut-out being the obvious giveaway, as Arnaldo said. My pal just bought a sealed record online last week for £40. Just an average funk rock kinda lp but the actual record inside is a mint Grodeck Whipperjenny (£200+ JB related obscurity). Absolutely bizarre how that happened. He's obviously gonna keep it and hopes to find a sleeve although it's unlikely. Great chat guys... cheers Nige

      @@nigelcampag1290 it’s rare to hear of the record error on the inside being BETTER than what was supposed to be inside - love it! I do know there are a few trading groups on Facebook for just sleeve upgrades; mostly for people with great sleeves but junk records looking for their better vinyl condition counterparts. Cheers Nige 🍺

      B-side here…”a man’s got to know his limitations”…nice to find your show this morning. Yeah, barking doggos. My excuse for no content, yet. Our very “active” puppy has made it challenging to ever open up the record room. He’s getting older so I’m going to try and dip my toe in the YT water, this fall…😎🍻

    Jose’s comment! 😂 First of all why would anyone want that record?! Too funny. Such great timing! ⏱️
    So many great points from all the panelists! 👍🏽👍🏽
    I would only recommend trading in person when there is a decent turntable present to spot play grade the records involved in the trade. I just traded my 3rd state Beatles Butcher Cover for one of the rarest Elvis 45s in existence.

    So slabbing and adding that cost to an already dubious sealed record possibly should insure best value in the future when slabbing may be a silly footnote in the history of vinyl.

    • @ConcertBuddie
      @ConcertBuddie  2 місяці тому +1

      Back to your other comment, I would think these slabbing companies know what to look for on re-sealed items. I’m not that intimately familiar with their full evaluation process, but (if it was me) that’s something that would have to be part of the overall grading + authenticating process. Thoughts?

    • @wickedexile4531

      @@ConcertBuddie plastic dna carbon dating of your “sealed” lp cellophane Is that where the slab guys expertise lies or is it the marketing of their “service”? Been collecting since 1970 and would never consider any value to the sealed aspect . To extrapolate forward and assume the sealed aspect is authentic and adding the next dubious slabbing cost seems counterintuitive for me. Good discussion Chance. Thanks always. Tony
