A rarely mentioned achivement for SPYxFAMILY is that Anya is probably the first 4/6 year old in the history of anime to act that age.
And on top of that she does it without being annoying.

There's actually a line where they straight up tell him if he can handle getting the kid another one of there agents could play partner during his mission.

Could we really assign Yor the starting alignment of Lawful Evil if she's arguably too stupid to realize that contract killing is actually evil?
I can't disagree with the alignment choice but I think season 2 is when the debate of how evil is Yor's origination is will come in full force
I would argue ignorance is no real excuse.
No, she understands that contract killing isn't socially acceptable and that murder shouldn't be her solution to all of her problems, no matter how easy it could. I'd put Yor down as Neutral Evil during her childhood when she starts (she starts killing to put food on the table for her younger brother) and then bump her up to Lawful Evil when the show starts (She's now doing her job believing that she's dirtying her hands so that normal people like her brother can live peaceful lives.)
Honestly, I'd put both Yor and Loid in Lawful Evil trending close to Neutral at the beginning of the show. They're both very "means justify the ends" type of people. Loid is just more subtle than Yor XD.
If it does help, most of the people she does kill are mostly evil corrupt scumbags anyway.
Yor is so detached from humanity that she contemplates murdering a room full of men, women, and children, most of whom she knows, at a slight inconvenience.She does this a second time upon realizing that Anya needs to have another student drop out. While she doesn't go through with it, it's obvious that she sees killing as a tool and a viable option in most situations. She's definitely evil.
That being said, she's awesome and knows when to intimidate rather than perforate. She doesn't need to use her venom, she just needs you to know she can.
One thing I feel was failed to be mentioned is that Yor was raised as an assassin and told she's doing good. She thinks she's killing purely bad guys not just eastalis opposition.
I would say that would place her as LN, or at least LE leaning towards LN
I don’t think that is mentioned in the show yet and the narrator only follows the show so he doesn’t know about it.

I have a critique of the hospital episode, Anya was peacefully reading a comic while her father did the actual volunteer work. given the hospital staff think she is just 6, this is the perfect situation they would normally only dream of and no nurse would ever fuss at them for it. Can you imagen a nurse walking up to you and saying "How dare your 6 year old child calmly stay out of trouble while you help us"

I think it was more about her making a new pile of books on the floor, taking them from where ever.
But the entire point of the Hospital visit was for Anya to do volunteer work. Assuming that the hopsital knew that Anya was from Eden, then they likely expect Anya to actually help considering Stellas have been awarded for exception volunteer work.
@@Birthday888No one actually expects a 6 year old to help. it is primarily a school for very rich kids who's parents want prestige, "Exceptional volunteer work' means the minister of defense sent some staff to do the actual work while his 6 year old son doodles on some paper so he can brag about it at the next fancy dinner party with the other elites.
OR it could be the hospital does expect her to actually help, but that would only be due to the Series treating 6 year olds like they are 10-12 year olds, seriously looking at the various math and other lessons, these are way higher level classes then any 6 year old would be taught.
@@aaa1e2r3 The staff would expect the father to clean up the mess, but anyone who has ever spent time with a 6 year old knows that they will make a mess.
Yor seems to enter an entirely different mind set when ever she gets a call for a job, given The series takes place during the cold war era, and her targets are always 'enemies/traitors of the country' its almost guaranteed Yor was part of some child conditioning project designed to raise assassins for the government and She likely can't stop being an assassin even if she wanted to.
I don't know how this would effect her alignment, but saying she does it 'just for pocket money' seems to just ignore the entire setting of the series.

I have to say that the Ending also deserves a Nat 20.
As for the characters there is a lot that we learn later in the manga.
It is obvious that the author started to write a comedy series with a spy/cold war flavor but as it became popular the backstories of everyone were deepened.
We don't learn much of Yor's work until the arc in the cruise and we only just recently got a few bites of Loid's story about how he became a spy in the manga wich would not likely be adapted until season 2 or 3.
As for the Dub vs Sub, I prefer the original because the japanese VA are just amazing. That said the english dub is also good.
This video is actually an amazing example of the flaws in this system, lol.
Loid's very firmly Lawful Good--he prioritizes the mission to protect his country and the world at large over everything else, and only indulges in family matters (neutral territory) when it helps that mission or he has nothing more important to do. In spite of this, he also has well demonstrated that he goes out of his way to help others whenever the opportunity arises.
Yor's clearly Lawful Neutral--while contract killing is nominally "evil," her targets seem to be largely criminals, from we've seen. Regardless, however, she does this job to make ends meet for herself and her family, and also goes out of her way to help others on some occasions. I wouldn't go so far as to mark her Lawful Good, yet, but she seems to average out to Lawful Neutral at worst. The alignment chart give this result at the end, but she probably should have started here too, when considering the context of her assassin work.
Anya's Chaotic Neutral drifting Chaotic Good though, so the video got that pretty much exactly right.
I'd argue that Yor's constant jumping to "what if I just murder a guy" as a solution to all her problems does suggest an evil leaning at minimum. I do agree that Loid's clearly lawful good, I'd put Yor at the TN/LN/NE/CE border inside the Neutral Evil box. I don't think she's particularly lawful outside of survival needs, which mostly defines all of her actions. She's just trying to get by in a world where killing is the easiest way for her to do that.
As for the anime, sure we can start Yor out as Evil aligned, but once season 2 arrive and the organization Yor worked for is explained, this will likely change.
Without spoiling much as a manga reader, let just say that Yor won't just kill for no good reason, and that there are good reason for why someone need the Thorn Princess to take down. She does understand morality, at least on the surface level.
Instead of being judged, jury and executioner, Yor leaves the judging for the shopkeeper and is purely an executioner

Not sure about being evil, but he he was definitely being a salty spiteful asshole because his wife had just dumped him and took full custody of there kid.Definitely deserved the punch though.

This entire anime is so entertaining. It's always good to see evil and neutral characters mellow out/become good or atleast stay away from evil.
I should really watch this anime so I can experience all of this for myself.

It's fun. The dub can be a tad iffy at times (Yuri being the obvious exception), but it's worth it.
I vote we say grouped into one. all three would be. "True Wholesome." as an alignment.
Even though Anya is four physically, she may be much older mentally, from the constant bombardment of information by her telepathy. The fact that she IS telepathic means she already had advanced neural wiring. (Dark thought: Anya may be orphaned from her likely enlarged cranium killing her mother at birth, causing her father to lose it and put her up for adoption) Because of this, she may actually be anywhere between two to three times her age
This is somewhat off actually. No Anya is genuinely still 4 at mind too. Let me remind you that she was a subject at a lab, she managed to escape (somehow) and had been going across the country until she wound up in that (rather shitty) Orphanage.

I have watched an episode or 2 in the English dub, but had to go back. It isn't that anyone put in a bad performance, but I couldn't go through it without hearing Anya's Waku Wak any time she got excited. It's too good

Anya being such a Mind Goblin is hilarious to me because shortly after I started watching the anime, Genshin introduced a character who is also very Mind Goblin so yeah... Quite the coincidence to say the least.
I'd enjoy seeing the other supporting characters alignments after the next Cour. Damien and Frankie specifically seem fun.

The whole "keep the peace" ending CAN work... if Donovan Desmond becomes a threat to both Ostania and Westalis, which is fairly likely. I mean, have you seen the guy? Guy's as unhinged as the door on a weatherbeaten shack.
Though, knowing how enemy factions with the same end goal usually go, IT AIN'T GON BE EASY!

This comment probably won’t be seen, but I really liked the video and am curious about if you could an alignment video on the Warhammer 40k fan series If the Emperor had a Text-to-Speech Device. Even though the series is incomplete thanks to Games Workshop killing it, I think it would be neat for an alignment video on the big 3: the Emperor himself, Magnus, and Kitten, as well as some minor alignments for other characters.

I've love to see a Video on Dr Hedo from the new Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie, I suspect the guy is Neutral Evil but thinks he's Lawful Good witch in is an interesting combo for character actions. Maybe do some of the other new characters introduced like the Gammas or Pan (Technically her fist sapient appearance as a character with her own anatomy). Pan was such a fun character in that movie. Even do a quick run down of Magenta and Carmine.

Even if you don't include any other characters from the series so far, you have the makings of a solid D&D party. *Anya "Chaos Gremlin" Forger = a halfling with a 2 lv minimum dip into sorcerer to get the spell: detect thoughts. *Yor "Thorn Princess" Briar/Forger = a variant human rouge/ranger. *Loid "Twilight Husbando" Forger = another variant human rouge/ranger.

Since Twilight's mission is to avoid a war, should he not be considered lawful good, instead of lawful neutral ? Besides, the real reason he became a spy is so that no one else has to suffer like he did when he was still a child.
As for Yor, as stated by several other people, she seems to have been raised to become an assassin. Furthermore - and that is even more important - she is entirely convinced that her targets are always evil criminals who threaten innocent people and the safety of her country. That should be a special and unusual kind of lawful good, instead of outright lawful evil.

Can't lie, the fact that Loid wasn't shocked or curious when Yor was fighting him, a trained spy in martial arts while drunk but still on equal footing should make you wonder if he knows her true occupation but doesn't ask simply to keep both their covers up for the fake family's look and benefit, because hot damn....if she was mixing my shit like that I would be concerneded
