Sorry for the late upload...As some of you know, Im in Mongolia. I broke my wrist jumping off a horse to save my life. I hope you enjoy this topic that many people ask me about. Let me know what you think!! Love you all!
I feel like the reason people are chill here regarding race is also because compared to East Asian countries, kazakhs don’t suffer much from colorism. There are light skin toned kazakhs and dark skin toned kazakhs and society accepts both as beautiful, you won’t find skin-bleaching creams like you would in South Korea, China, Thailand etc.
there is still some colorism in Kazakhstan but it doesn’t affect your life to the point of making it harder. Luckily it is dying out bcs colorism is mostly is uplifted by older people and younger ones doesn’t care about it
Why would they? They ancestors spent most of the time outside and only sickly and old folk were hanging out inside yurts. Other Asian regions associate pale skin with being upper class also historically
This is true, but there are many African Americans who think they will be discriminated against by their skin color if they travel to Kazakhstan. I made this video to show them there is no problem:) Thanks for your comment!!
Looking at your video, I looked at my city in a different way. Almaty is indeed a diverse and green city. Pleased to see you in our country, Francois. Rahmet for the video! Have a nice trip in the future!
I’m so glad you posted this video, I’m going to Almaty for a few days next month, basically because I love Kazakh music, and my wife read some negative stuff on the web and was feeling scared, so I showed her this video and she feels much better now, thank you so much!

@@francoismarc3 the reason I’m going is I recorded a song called “Kazakhstan” last year and it’s become my highest streamed song of all time, so I’ve recorded a follow up song called “Almaty” and I’m going there to shoot some footage for a video clip, and buy another Dombra! I’m hoping to go back again for longer next year!
Hi, Mark! I’ve watched your dombra playing video. Well done! Be sure people here will be very glad to meet you. Especially if they’ll know that you play dombra. Almaty is a very musical city. Theatrical and musical seasons are opening in the September. But festivals happen any time of the year. If you’ll be on August 17 here - on the hippodrome will be Kinga farm derby. Usually it ends with the small ethnic rock music concert. Anyway, you and your wife are very welcome to Kazakhstan.
Thank you, Francois, for the wonderful and interesting video! Kazakhstan will always welcome you, and my friends and I will be glad to see you. I am happy to be a part of such a 🤩🤩🤩 video.
Glad to know that many tourists from around the world talking about the country and enjoying being here in my homeland in Kazakhstan🇰🇿.thanks for your opinion 🔥
I’m Kazakh who lives in the US for the last 5 years.. and I really enjoyed watching your videos! They were very informative and fun! I hope next time you can explore the capital and mb some other cities like Aktau or Shymkent (my hometown). Thx!

Francois, don’t let the negative comments get to you! I enjoyed watching the video, every country every nation have their own “Karens” and they flooded your comment section, but I think that’s for the best for future engagement. Best of luck and get well soon! I’ve never been to east kazakhstan and it will be interesting to watch for me as well, even though I’m local from Almaty
Hey, thanks so much. There are a lot more positive comments than negative ones, but the negative ones seemed to hit me hard. Thank you for reminding me that there are Karen's everywhere. If my wrist feels okay at the end of this month, I may return to Kazakhstan for a couple of weeks. The east sounds like a wonderful place to explore. Maybe I'll see you there too:)
I'm glad that you're helping to present our country in a positive light for foreigners! Kazakhstan is often seen through well-worn stereotypes, and unfortunately, many still associate Kazakhstan with Borat. Additionally, the "-stan" suffix tends to carry a negative connotation, similar to Afghanistan. Keep up the good work in breaking down these stereotypes, and thank you for your efforts!
I would love to go to Kazakhstan after watching this video Francois. It really seems like a very hospitable and beautiful country like you said. From what I learned from my friend from Uzbekistan, he said Kazakhstan people are a very diverse group of people with many different ethnic groups with a variety of European and East Asian features. Even mixed with Mongol tribes, Uralic, and Iranian people. That is why many Kazakhs look "Asians" I guess!! Lastly, I am also from Atlanta Francois. I used to live close to Emory University in DeKalb County and often went to Buckhead Lenox Square Shopping Mall a lot. I am sure you have been there too. I miss Atlanta very much, especially the Southern hospitality and vibe. The autumn weather is so beautiful in Atlanta with leaves changing colors. Do you miss Atlanta too? Enjoy your stay in Kazakhstan and job well done with this video brother!!
Heeeey, thanks for taking time to wite this message! I do miss Atlanta, sometimes, but not the summer humidity lol. I have been to the places you mentioned:) Kazakhstan really stole my heart. I haven't seen much of the country, but from what I have seen, it's amazing. I hope you can visit there one day...what an amazing land with even more amazing people.:)
I love your little humanist riff... That was great! Brilliant video, beautiful friend in the beginning too and interesting to think how dating could be easy there. Regardless, I do get that sense of hospitality is more important than anything else in Almaty. Your long form videos have been doing really well lately. Well done!!! Keep it rolling...
Aye, B, thanks so much! I'm happy to see a friendly face here. Some of these comments are wild... I'm just trying to paint the image of Kazakhstan being a welcoming place where anyone, but especially African Americans who don't travel much out of fear of the unknown, can feel at peace. I am indeed a humanist...which is far less than I can say for some of these comments. Never seen this before. I'll keep it going, brotha!! Waiting in your next video....its been a while!
@@francoismarc3 was just looking at comments now and yeah, it's the typical stuff (knee jerk reactions that say more about the commenter than you), but also tons of positive comments too. Usually the bigger the views, the more engagement, both good and bad...and the more likely we are to have a negative bias (as in we mostly see the negative sentiments than all the positive ones). Yet, you made a great video, and not clickbaity, manipulative, nor controversial in any way, so if it's fired people up... Great! Let the engagement roll in!!
@BrianCatalano That's a great way to look at it!! I think I'm a bit compromised because I'm hurting from the injury and preparing for surgery tomorrow. Thanks for the encouragement:) I saw your video just dropped. Gonna watch it before bed!
Personally, being a Kazakh, I love black people. They are so special and they give off such a cool vibe, they are positive and very beautiful. And all my friends also treat dark-skinned people well. Perhaps I would like my future husband to be dark-skinned.
"They are so special and they give off such a cool vibe, they are positive and very beautiful." What -- ALL of them? That's just silly. Black people are no better or worse, no more or less "cool", "positive" or "beautiful" than the members of any other ethnic group.
Great video, man! Welcome to Kazakhstan! Historically we became diverse by force of the USSR regime and it was not a pleasant story, but nowadays majority here they are happy to live with each other and we welcome people from any part of the world as well.
Thanks a lot for your videos about Kazakhstan 🇰🇿 I really love your positivity and your presentation of our country to the world, big love brother 💗 You're always welcome here

I also believe this, but some people in the comments section of this and other videos don't. Also, I'm trying to show other African-Americans who are scared to travel to Kazakhstan that it's okay to travel there. Thanks for this comment!!:)
I live in US for the last 10 years, and I’m from Almaty. 2 of my 3 kids were born here. Watching your videos makes me feel like I was there with you. Thank you, I hope you get to see Eastern Kazakhstan as well, it’s beautiful. And you’re right we don’t see the colour, we just see a human being. We were raised like this. Only in US, I really understand what is racism. But in 10 years here, I was never treated badly. Maybe I’m just lucky to meet good people on my way.
That is also something I've noticed while living in Asia contrasted with living in the US and Europe: this western racism exists only in very small pockets out here. Of course, there will be some 'racists' in every country and land, but to the level that it exists in the US...nope. I'm happy you have had a wonderful 10 years in the US. The US in itself isn't bad, however, there are some people in the country that can make living there intolerable. I'm happy your experiences have been different!!:)
Growing up, I had two black people around me. This is my neighbor, he taught at the English club. And dad had a woman business partner. It never once occurred to me to ask them why they were different. I live and was born in Almaty. I'm very glad that you liked visiting our city❤
My dear friend, thank you for your positive video. I have lived here for many years and I will tell you everything is good, take it easy. Don't look for a black cat in a dark room, as in any country there are fools and normal people here, thats normal practic. Come to Almaty again and enjoy life, it is delicious here, many beautiful places, fun and not cold, if you want something else, welcome bro!
Hey, my friend!!! Thanks for stopping by! You always leave wonderful messages for me!::) I loved all my time there") And yes, she's wonderful ly beautiful!♡♡♡
Only big disagreement is Kazakh language issue, but nowadays there are more younger people who understands the importance of knowing and respecting the language

Anybody from west, rest assured, can spend some good time here with that x-rate (unfortunate for us ngl)... And yea, we are, perhaps rather curious nation, always open for visitors. I guess it's in our nature to get along with many different cultures... Best of luck on your journey and safe travels!

Any other advice or tips is appreciated, im interested in going soon. Im also debating between the other central asian countries like kyrgyzstan or uzbekistan.
I only make this title because African Americans don't travel often, so I'm trying to get them to see other places:) My videos are for everyone:) Honestly, you need 2 weeks at the least to experience a small portion of the country. Almaty, Astana, places in the west I haven't traveled to...I'm actually going back after wrist surgery. The other countries you listed are also top-notch. See them all and stay longer than a week so you won't feel rushed.
@Jitterbug360 I am Kazakh and I think it all depends on what you wanna see and maybe contact local guides beforehand. I mean the south is very interesting too very different from Almaty. Way more family oriented and traditional. This is why they are even more hospitable. The newly rebuilt ancient city of Turkestan is worth a visit. It has a mausoleum of sufi Khoja Yassawi. Many Kazakh Khans are buried there. Shymkent, there is places around the region to visit like Aqmeshit. In Mangystay region there is white mountains and the sea. There is a mosque in a cave. There is a channel called Alkettik where the guy visits Kazakhstan's different regions. Not that he covers everything of course. You can inquire, search and investigate.
If you want to visit Almaty, then be sure to go to Medeu, climb Shymulak, Kokzhailau, all this within the city can be reached by public transport route 12, and the like. We have a lot of things to do...

Great video man, in my experience traveling around Asia you’re seen as a human-being first and judged off of your character rather than skin tone alone. And if you try to speak the language as well that usually always gives you bonus points + Another thing I had to get used to is being known as the American as well 😂 I always think like “oh yeah I guess I am American” We’re so used to being called AFRICAN American and that distinction almost connotes a second class citizen type of feel
I agree with all this!!! I'm in the hospital now in Mongolia (I broke my wrist) and the doctors and nurses asked where I'm from. I told then the US and they "oh, American". The African or Black part never came into play.
I can explain the race obsession within Americans. America was once a highly racialized society for much of its history. Up until the civil rights act, race determined who you could love, where you could live, where you could work, and pretty much every aspect of American society. My explanation is an oversimplification but basically race determined your life and experiences in America. Thankfully a lot has changed but bigotry still exists. Sorry Kazakhs and foreigners, racial tensions still persist in America to a lesser extent. Europeans colonized much of the known world and established racial hierarchies. So often when African Americans travel around the world, their experiences differ from Europeans do to historical realities and prejudices passed down generations. Thankfully from what I’m reading from the Kazakh people is that racism isn’t a prolific problem in your country. I just wanted to give context on why Americans and in particular African Americans are very concerned with race relations of various countries. Much love from America 🇺🇸 to the Kazakhstan 🇰🇿
on the contrary, I love it when people from different countries come to us. And there are a lot of black people here and there is no difference between the skins. I go to special meetings with native speakers like you. I like your videos for their simplicity, you show the city as it really is. I hope you really enjoyed your stay in Almaty.
Hey, thanks so much for the comment! I love positive messages like these. I loved Almaty so much and will return soon. Your comment makes me want to come back:) I'm happy you have the chance to speak in English with native speakers:)

Hello Franco. Everything was fine before the start of the Russia-Ukraine war. Recently, there have been people who fight nations. There are more and more people who write comments as Kazakhs and inappropriately as Kazakhs. Do not pay attention to bad comments.Welcome, Kazakhstan.❤
@@francoismarc3, there are lots of scammers from Ukraine and Russia who call people pretending to be from banks or government bodies and stole money from people’s accounts or make them get online credits and disappear. Kazakhstan has a very huge history of being colonized and oppressed by the Russian government, most than a half of our population has died out of man made famine during those times, all the elite was sent to gulags and our land was used as polygons like Semey and etc. that’s why in that time Kazakhs were minorities on our own land. But we are getting it back, this year Kazakhs officially got more than 71% of the Kazakhstan population and now we are considered to be monoethnic country not multiethnic. Part of that history still shows why we are so against “only russian” menus and places in here

🇰🇿70% of the population of Kazakhstan are Kazakhs, but there are many other nationalities: Russians, Germans, Chechens, Uzbeks, Uighurs, Ukrainians, Tatars, Koreans and so on, many of their ancestors were forcibly sent to Kazakhstan during the Soviet Union, there were also those who were sent into exile in Kazakhstan. All nationalities get along in peace and harmony, are friends, celebrate holidays together. People in Kazakhstan are very kind, responsive, and peaceful. At the same time, Kazakhstan has a special spirit of nomads. The official language is Kazakh, Kazakh and Russian are mostly spoken, but also many of the citizens, mostly young people, know English at an intermediate or conversational level. Kazakhstan is a secular country, people of different religions live here. Kazakhs themselves mostly profess secular Islam, but do not accept radical Islam, but rather local Islam has the specifics of a nomadic people. Before Islam, Kazakhs were Tengrians, so this influenced the development of a specific local Islam in Kazakhstan. Kazakhs have been a people engaged in nomadic cattle breeding since ancient times, historically had a special strong spirit of nomads, since childhood they were trained to be warriors, so today Kazakhs are good at sports such as boxing and wrestling. Kazakhs love various celebrations and family holidays, lead a measured lifestyle. Kazakhstan is a country with a rich deep culture, family values, delicious national cuisine, beautiful national clothes and music, Kazakhstanis are hospitable and tolerant, appreciate when their culture and language are respected, they are also open to other cultures and appreciate the multinational nature in the country. Every nationality in Kazakhstan is of particular importance, everyone has the right to profess their culture and observe their customs and traditions, there is no infringement in this. We Central Asians or should I say Mongol descends are not racist, extremely religious. We accept people the way they are appearance wise. We only judge people based on their personalities. Love the video.
Kazakh here. Can’t stress this enough; here in Kazakhstan, ain’t nobody will care if you’re black! If anything, I’d expect people to be very excited to get to know you, but would obviously, not bother you due to basic manners. Another thing is - conversation; some Kazakhs have not enough advanced English knowledge to break the ice, and some are too socially embarrassed to open up. There’s nothing about Kazakhs hating on beautiful black people. Lastly, I feel like Kazakhs and African-Americans could relate to each other in some way, since historically, we both went through disastrous hardships and had to fight for our freedom/independence in our own ways. I personally love the culture, and follow multiple black creators. Their energy is just fire 🔥

Kazakhstan is a hospitable country, but do not think that Kazakh women will immediately choose you and marry you. We honor our culture, traditions, and religions. Kazakh women are very educated, smart and beautiful. Purity of blood is important to us; they usually rarely marry foreigners. Since ancient times, Kazakh women have been warlike. We have a huge territory and our own traditions. Kazakh men do not simply give their daughters to other nationalities. We within our clan do not mix blood until the seventh generation. Don't mislead people. Don't think that Kazakh women are easily accessible.

And we had wars not because of women, but because of need for the pastures, trade centers.

I'm glad that you're helping to present our country in a positive light for foreigners! Kazakhstan is often seen through well-worn stereotypes, and unfortunately, many still associate Kazakhstan with Borat.

Part of that history still shows why we are so against “only russian” menus and places in here
All nationalities get along in peace and harmony, are friends, celebrate holidays together. Thank you for this comment and thanks for watching. I live for these types of comments:)
Woah, thanks so much for this message! It made me feel really good to read this!!!!
@@francoismarc3Sure thing! Really happy for the fact that it helped you :)
May you have a blessed day
Who are some of these black content creators in Kazakstan? Thanks
@@jamesbond-xl3xsHi, sorry for not making this clear enough; I actually don’t know any black creators in Kazakhstan, but I do enjoy watching creators like RDC, Berleezy, ImDontai, CoryxKenshin from US 😁
Kazakhstan is a hospitable country, but do not think that Kazakh women will immediately choose you and marry you.
We welcome guests, but guests must behave decently. Next time you can visit Burabay, Aktau, Eastern Kazakhstan. These areas have unique nature.

Hello, and thanks for your comment. I am not misleading anyone. I did not state that Kazakh women would immediately choose and marry a foreigner. I think you brought your own biased thinking to the comment section. Also, you don't know all Kazakh women or families, do you? This comment is borderline ignorant and aggressive.
@@francoismarc3 I am Kazakh women and I am writing to you my opinion. You told everyone to come here and Kazakh women will not mind going marry. But this is not true. We do not choose everyone, especially other nationalities. We respect all people on the planet, regardless of race, skin color or nationality. But for marriage we choose our nation. This information is for those who misunderstood you.
@@ЭмиДоктор Thanks for the clarification, but I did not say Kazakh women will choose you if you come. I did state that you could find a woman to marry in Kazakstan, being that my friend did. Obviously, it is possible... I think you had some misunderstandings about the video. Thanks again for your comment.
Ooh wow! I can see the South African zulu guy 😊! Almaty became so international!
Lol what? Am I a Zulu guy?? Lol
@@francoismarc3 not you, that African guy you had interview with , he was wearing a tshirt zulu! So he must be zulu!
@@SAFlowers got you!!!:)
Hey dude welcome to Kz🇰🇿🫂🫶🏼
A lot of Kazakhs also black 😅
Lol thanks for the welcome! I would love to see that!
Doesn’t matter a nation or race it depends from human itself if behavior is proper and respectful no one will break you nose or bones
Respect this comment!!!
Thanks bro for great video about our city. As post-USSR country we were taught in school skin doesn't matter what king of person you are what matters. Myself I'm kazakh but I was raised by russian and german teachers. My friends are uzbeks, russians, tajiks, germans, greeks and many other nationalites as I grew up. Never we called each othet as white or black or yellow. I think color theme is unique to USA. Some days ago I was watching Trump after his assasination attmpt and reporter invited some Hispanic woman. The reporter call that woman mentioning her ethnicity. For that's weird. We will not mention nationality or ethnicity like - here we have Uzbek Mr X or any orther nationality.
Color class definitely comes from Europe and the US...something that is not easy to shake. Really thank you for the information in your comment!!
Thank you so much for the warm welcome! This was a very kind comment!!!:)
Kazakh women are Kazakh men’s pride, our ancestors died for that during wars with Mongols and Russian!
I understand, but do you mean ethnic Kazakh women or all women who live in Kazakhstan?
I think you have twisted knowledge in history😅. We never had war (interstate) with russians or mongols (khalkha). We had war with nogai, mogul, uzbek, azeri (kyzylbash), timurids, siberian tatars, and kalmyks with dzunghars.
And we had wars not because of women, but because of need for the pastures, trade centers.
In South Kazakhstan there are many black kazakh. My little brother has black skin colour. And also I have black kazakh cousin. My grandmather had black skin colour. Black is forever 😊.
Woah...I'll have to go visit next time! I'm interested to see! Haha Black is forever:)
Cool video! Keep doing
Thanks, will do! And appreciate it!!!
Excellent video
Thank you so very much!
Nice video! Thank you very much for your honest opinion about Kazakh people. It’s true, Kazakh people are very kind, polite and intelligent. And I proud of my motherland. If you marry on Kazakh girl you will be lucky 😉😁
Hello from Kazakh lady in Bermuda 🇧🇲 ❤🇰🇿
Thank you so much for the great message!!! I really enjoyed my time there, so I'm planning to go back soon!! If I could marry a Kazakh woman, I would indeed be lucky! We shall see! :)♡♡♡
bro is talking to a girl near high school I graduated. My respect bro!!!
Haha thanks so much!
Мен американдық қазақпын және бір күні Қазақстанға барғым келеді.
I hope you can visit one day!!! You will love the country of your ancestors:)
Thanks!
Hey, thank you so much!!!!
You know, actually most grown up people love every skin tone, but some teenagers and little kids are racist. I was raised to love every nationality and I am thankful for that. When I studied in 1-4 class there was a boy that had dark skin, everyone in the class loved him as if he was in the same family. But now as I am in 5-6 class, there are a lot of racists. I hate it really muchz
That's sad to hear, but thank you so much for being different than others in your class:)
Bro I enjoy watching your vlogs. You definitely should visit Astana(the capital)
There are bunch of well known sightseeings and I would like to guide you there if you decide to visit
I'll be going back to Kazakhstan soon!! Almaty and then Astana! If you are around, let's meet for a coffee or something:) And thanks for watching!!!
I’m with you so just be yourself as an American. You get a chance to remove yourself from the ethnic label that was placed on a group of people more than 150 years ago
Yes, I believe this:) I think this is last 'Black' video I do. I just wanted people who identify as Black or African Americans to see this and not be afraid to travel to places like this:)
If people are scared to you the first time doesn't necessarily has something to do with your skin color of physical appearance it's a matter of fact that you are a STRANGER.
Thanks for adding that!!
