As a foreigner living in Almaty for the last 15 years I would agree that the prices increased significantly during the last 2 years especially after covid ended. Many foreigners also feel the price increase because even for the folks who earn their salary in USD due to dollar/tenge rate is very stable last 2 years and inflation is going up prices in USD also increased quite a lot. But still I think Almaty is one of the best places to live for a foreigner.
As an ex Kazakh ( now im Canadian ) totally agree with you . Im trying to travel each year to see my family here . And i see that prices like really jumped) But still Almaty is the best city in the world . so far )))
I was in Almaty last February but i don’t find it expensive. There are lots of affordable restaurants to eat, comfortable hostel to stay and a tasty local beer to drink that won’t cost you that much. The people I’ve meet in my Almaty journey are so kind. Some locals don’t speak english but they are very helpful they will take out their phone and use google translator just to help and that’s what i like the most. The taxi drivers always return change even if it’s only 1 tenge. They are very warm when it comes to visitors. I enjoyed so much my winter trip in Almaty and for sure i will come back to experience summer.

I have been in Platform A. It has great variety of choice. Pasta was great. I didn't see any oysters when I was there, but some day I will go there for that or other stuff.
It's mid at best. The same way the "Cafe park" or whatever it's called near the forum is. It's better to eat somewhere else, where you could get much better food. Or eat the same quality food for cheaper ngl.

Those white flowers aren’t tulips but they’re called бәйшешек (they’re central Asian plants crocus) Typically the first flowers to bloom they thrive in snow and they signify the beginning of spring.

Nothing too expensive. Almaty gives you many opportunities to earn just like Westerners while living in a cheaper environment. I was born here, so I had a head-start, but I've seen more than enough people coming here to become successful.

The only not-mediocre place to eat in Almaty is Delish Lived in Almaty for half a year, never cooked a food even once, always use a delivery or eat out - most places are mediocre/soulless, while Delish stands for its name being the only, suprisingly normally priced place, that offers the food you can see is fresh, well-thought, incorporating the culture of an original dish, consistently well-cooked and has a visibly well distributed cost between products it's made of and effort that is put into handling them for every single dish, I almost feel like I am robbing them when paying so little compared to the rest of Kazakhstan This is the only place I would personally give a michellin star in my life, outranking everything in it's price category even compared to all I had in multiple countries with lower living costs Top 2 would be Mercado, top 3 is surprisingly a fast-food chain that is Uno Dos Tacos, their fries and signature tacos are amazing (Yeah, I've been to Seven bar, all sort of fancies in Ritz and around it and Medeu, but they all are kinda mid or worse in terms of food)
