      I am probably three times his age and I will never get enough righteous brothers . It's to bad they have sang their last song but these songs will be around for a long time . I think "unchained melody" was probably their best release . A 1955 little known movie song to one of the greatest songs of all time thanks to the righteous brothers .

    Interesting story...when they were starting out they had a different name. They finally got a gig at a primarily black lounge. The crowd did not want a couple of white guys singing in the club. When they started singing, the crowd loved them. Someone told them that they were some righteous
    brothers, so they changed their name.

    • @TexasRose50
      @TexasRose50 4 роки тому +8

      Kim, I beard it was a black waiter at the club. He said something like, y'all are righteous brothers. And that's when that name stuck. Anyway, that's the story I heard.

    • @kidyubyub
      @kidyubyub 4 роки тому +39

      @@TexasRose50 It was actually a group of black marine's from the El Toro Marine Base in California. Bill Medley said at the end of their performance, a black U.S. Marine in the audience would shout, "That was righteous, brothers!", and would greet them with "Hey righteous brothers, how you doin'?" on meeting them. This is a citation from his memoir.

So, that is how they got their named changed to The Righteous brothers. you can read up on it with Bill Medley on you tube. He is now playing with some guy in Vegas called Bucky.It was so sad when Bobby Hatfield passed away.

    Your reaction is how they got their name. They played a USO show for an integrated Army audience and a soldier hollered out 'You are righteous brothers" and they took the name. They aren't actually related but their voices complement each other perfectly.

    After all these years, I still get chills when I hear this song ❤️ 💚 💙 💜 Couple Fun Facts: They got their name from some black marines who saw them perform as the “Paramours” in 1963. They shouted, “that was righteous brothers!”, Sonny and Cher were part of the backing vocals, & last but not least, heir manager booked them into a black nightclub in Watts, California before they got big, & the patrons of the club started throwing things at them on stage when they saw they were white, & The Righteous Brothers didn't know what to do, so they just started singing, & all the patrons sat down with their mouths open, & wouldn't let them leave after that, & the term, Blue Eyed Soul, was introduced

    This is--as far as I can recall--the only song that I never, EVER get tired of hearing. I bought it on 45 when it first came out, and pretty much wore it out. Then I bought another one. Wore that one out, too. I think Phil Spector sent his kids through college just on the money I spent on Righteous Brothers records.
    The thing that really strikes me about this particular song is that i honestly don't know anyone who wasn't completely bowled over by it the first time they hard it. There are some songs that, when you first hear them, you think, "That's' not too bad", and the more times you hear it, the more you start to like it. Then after a while you start to get a little tired of it. and eventually you forget about it and go on to something new. But this song just plain knocks you on your ass from the get-go--like it did to you--and from then on you NEVER tire of it. It's almost like it burrows its way into your brain, and you just can't get it out. And you don't want to, anyway.

    I am so glad that you enjoyed one of my favorite records from when I was growing up. Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys said that it was the best record he ever heard. The Righteous Brothers were amazing singers, but what can get lost is the music that supported them. This record was produced by Phil Spector, and his "Wall of Sound" technique was very prominent, but it did not overpower the singers. As a person, Phil Spector is absolutely bat-crap crazy, but he was the most amazing producer in the recording business. Check out a few songs by The Crystals produced by Spector, one of the best being "Then He Kissed Me". "Da Doo Ron Ron" is another great song by the Crystals. The Ronettes was another group that Spector produced. One of their biggest hits was "Be My Baby". Check these records out, and listen to the music. I think that they are amazing.

    This song had a resurgence in 1986 when Top Gun came out. A very famous scene was this song..... " she's lost that lovin' feeling" "no Mav, she hasn't" "yes she has"....

    That is one of my all time favorite songs. As artists go, they were way way way up there on my favorites list. They influenced my taste and liking of music. They inspired my love for Motown when all my friends in my all white Catholic high school, were high on the Beatles. Lol!.

    They are sooo good, I've often wondered if they are the white Jackson family. You just have to think how much practice did they go through together. Melodies, harmonies sound PERFECT.

    Interesting that you mentioned about the song "making those panties drop". I was 16 when that song first came out--it was their first really big hit--and it wasn't long before their songs became known as "panty-dropping music". And with good reason. Check out "For Once In My Life", "My Soul and Inspiration", "Ebb Tide"--if ever a song deserve the title
    "panty dropper 'par excellance'," this is the one--and "Unchained Melody" and you'll see what I mean.

    New to you. Christmas surprise for me! Nice reaction, and I hope you keep them coming. I am only 1 of their legion of fanatical fans. They were great, they were RIGHTEOUS, "Bue-eyed soul" was a specific reference to them, and by the way they were only soul brothers, not biological ones. There are many of their songs on UA-cam, my personal favorite was UNCHAINED MELODY, 1965, live solo performance by Bobby (the tenor), and I hope you treat yourself and us with your reaction. Easy to spot - Bobby is blonde, young (25) and wearing a pink sport jacket. Recorded by something like 670 people around the world, well known, like Elvis, but no one ever came close to Bobby. Consensus is that this is Bobby"s song, and I agree! I believe, but I'm not sure, that I read that "Unchained Melody was the most recorded song ever, and also that it got the most air time.Happy Holidays Doc!

      Den Norma... Soul has no colour.
      Its not exclusive to Black people.
      Its all inclusive.
      Blue eyed soul is kinda racist if you think about it.
      Because most white people have brown eyes. 😉

    • @_Common_Logic_
      @_Common_Logic_ 4 роки тому +2

      @@brianwilson3952 - No... It's NOT racist. Apologists like you have lost all perception of what racism is and it's sickening. Looking down on, or seeing yourself any better than another race is RACISM. "Soul" is a term coined by black people (Yes I said black) to describe a certain element in music, food, etc. It's not good and it's not bad; it just IS. Saying these two had soul is in NO way putting anyone down. Calling them "Blue Eyed Soul" is a compliment to both the Brothers, and the Genre which happened to be primarily black.
      By looking for "Racism" and even condemning stereotypes (which are not in themselves racist) you are only creating more division and segregation. If these two sounded like females and I were to say their feminine voices surprised me would you call me a "Sexist"?
      People are people.. we have different characteristics. To say that these two are the whitest guys with the blackest voices might SHOCK today's generation, but you will find more truth than actual racism in the statement. Compliments can be stereotypical but are rarely RACIST. I'm assuming you are white... Either way; get over it.
      "Its racist because most white people have blue eyes"? REALLY? That's an INSULT to anyone who has experienced real racism. If you met someone via texting, and they assumed you had brown eyes, you would consider yourself a victim of racism?... I look at this generation and I'm pretty sure we are doomed.

    • @brianwilson3952

      @@_Common_Logic_ I meant that it's racist and patronising toward white people.
      As though you have to be black to have soul or to sing well.
      And I'm no apologist.
      I love the way people like you presume to know somebody else's views by a comment.
      And I'm not some fucking millennial pissant whos ashamed of their own culture.I'm pushing 50.
      I'm Proud of Empire and I'm Proud of my history.
      Why don't you learn learn to read properly, so in future you don't see something as being the opposite of what it is.
