Their website shows there's a restaurant there now (The Laird's Table) and lots of outdoor activities, as well as doggy daycare. Simon and Adity are still there.
Just took a look at their website and WOW! They really ran with those ideas! Great expansion on the original ideas and seem to be making a real go of it. Way to go!
From what I’ve found online, it looks like Simon and Adity still own the castle and have made a go of it unlike so many others who have sought help (from Ruth and Simon) for their family houses and castles. Congratulations to them for persisting in what must, at times, have been a discouraging endeavour.
That’s fantastic news! I’m so happy to hear that. I’ve been following the American Viscountess and Mapperton The finest Manor House in Britain. She is Julie and he is Luke. The family is the Montagu family. They are the heirs to Earl of Sandwich. The house they are in now is 500 years old. V original family home was called hitching gate which Luke’s grandfather sold in 1952. They simply couldn’t make it anymore. Luke’s dad who is the Earl (Luke is the Viscount grew up at Hitchingbrooke and was in residence as the house was being sold. They have done so many great things trying to save Mapperton by opening it to the public. This is now their existing family home it also has ties to the Montagu’s even though it’s not the original family seat. Luke and Julie have opened it to tourists. They started a cafe, she does Yoga retreats. They have Glamping as well as luxury experiences. They let out some cottages on the estate as well. They don’t have any pretense. I think people like me and maybe you think these people are snobs or think they’re better than us. But like Aditi said here, they actually withdraw because they don’t want people to think that about them… Unfortunately that does give the impression that they are snobs lol. I live in Canada and I find this history so fascinating❤
I think the venue made it, but even though it shows him and his daughters (no wife in the picture) - it states his influence to 2017 on their website under 'history'. Either way, I hope it stayed in the family, but it doesn't sound like it, which would be a shame.
@@Luna.3.3.3 On Trip Advisor, Adity is listed as the property manager for the rental unit. The most recent review was in October of 2021. The reviews mention both Adity and Simon and all the different activities that can be done there.
What a hoard! One of my favorite because these folks dug in with such enthusiasm . A far cry from stuffy entitled estate owners who can't find a way to change.
This is the first episode wherein I did not get depressed and sad watching it! Aditi and Simon are young, enthusiastic, capable and open to suggestions. I think they can make this a success !!! Simon even partake during the mud race.
This may have been filmed over 10 years ago, but only being 30 miles from Glasgow, I don't see how they didn't connect with the Glasgow tourist bureau. Or even Visitscotland. It is a perfect location for weddings and events. Especially corporate ones! I have been dragged out hours away just to visit these places, as an International meeting and events planner. 30 miles is nothing! (I am only 10 mins in so I may be speaking too soon!). Not to mention that they should have been able to get funds from the Crown, or Prince Charles (at the time), who has always been very intent on helping properties such as these, rich with history! Maybe now as King, they can reach out and see whom they can apply to for help!?
The current Laird is just a steward of Scottish history. That history is not only his families, but the people of Scotland. It's easy to pass these estates on and say "be done with them", yet that is literally taking away a physical piece of Scottish history. Once gone, it cannot be resurrected. I think it is wonderful that these families are willing to roll their sleeves up and utilize some elbow grease to help preserve these treasures for future generations to enjoy. Well done!

The castle now is an amazing success ! I suggest checking it out ! 🙂 they have tons of recreation, the accommodations and even a restaurant/cafe, which looks to be a brand new building. so happy for the family. i read the actual tale word for word about a relationship to the king where a peasant farmer who heard a commotion only to see a very finely dressed gentleman being accosted, he went inside his home and got a weapon and went outside to assist the man and was able to fight off the attackers. he took the man inside and helped him with his wounds, he walked him back to edinburg and on their way he was asked what he would most like, after the gentlemen identified himself as royal nobility, the farmer said his own farm land that he could tend. he was invited back to the castle the following day and the king being amused by this response gave him a farm, which had an official name i don’t know, sorry lol- the bargain came at him (king) having his hands washed in the basin and pitcher- the rest is rock and roll 😊❤

800+ years of family history in one place, I can trace my male line a little more than half that far back. If I was them, I would do everything in my power to preserve this old place. 99% of families have been in their current home less than 50 years. And that library is to die for. I'm thinking that place would make a wonderful storybook/fairy tale wedding venue.
The fulfords and the "us versus them" types. The funniest one was old man fulford saying "we're singing from the same hymn sheet" at the perfect renovated place being $190 a night versus his ram shackle version being $275 a night. Fulford has been renovated a bit now and is available for weekly only, but has no bookings. I found it on a website

Wow, so enjoyable and what an inspirational story to anyone who feels challenged to do something that seems almost impossible.. And yes,I agree with what's been said below, they are a lovely couple. Credit must also go to Simon for his enterprising ideas. I'm just lost in admiration for all three.
He INHERITED it with debt. Same thing happened with the farm I've got that the family bought in 1863. My uncle was hopeless with money and motivation but I paid it off and significantly improved things.
I’m thrilled at the success. I love how whole heartedly they threw themselves into saving the gorgeous castle. I do cringe for the wildlife creatures and critters that use the stream the mud run goes through.
I checked this Scottish castle on line to find out the affordability and it was about $2500~$3000 for 2 nights which is way above what I’m willing to pay. Other than that, it’s great to see a historic castle be saved!
You have to consider that it's renting a place with accommodation for up to 16 people when you evaluate the cost. Short stays (2 nights being the minimum) are also going to be more per night. I picked a random date and it showed me $3,500 for 7 nights.
good morning thank you so much God's good an incredible place enhancement of every detail of the castles medieval generation history important to have them in the conservatory prestige a historical treasure
The attitudes of Aditi and Simon made the difference in the success of keeping their family castle and making it a success. “We are both fighters”. They had only been there for two years and had not been there for years, waking up every day to such a monumental and daunting project, like other families had which can grind you down mentally and physically. My heart goes out to those who had to sell their country homes. It doesn’t mean they were failures. Everybody’s path in life is unique.

I love this channel! This episode is one of my favorites, lovely couple and fabulous history. But, please, please lower the music, we want to hear the dialogue, not the music
Wow, so enjoyable and what an inspirational story to anyone who feels challenged to do something that seems almost impossible.. And yes,I agree with what's been said below, they are a lovely couple. Credit must also go to Simon for his enterprising ideas. I'm just lost in admiration for all three.
Was great to see Simon go on the mud run with everyone else and i hope they go well in there endeavours to raise money for the Castle.
Wonderful family in a wonderful setting !!!
Music louder than voices.
That chap brought the house, but the wife is the powerhouse
He INHERITED it with debt. Same thing happened with the farm I've got that the family bought in 1863. My uncle was hopeless with money and motivation but I paid it off and significantly improved things.
They should do some “Braveheart” face painting too for the mud runners. 😂😂😂😂 43:00
I’m thrilled at the success. I love how whole heartedly they threw themselves into saving the gorgeous castle.
I do cringe for the wildlife creatures and critters that use the stream the mud run goes through.
😲😲 critters?? Please!
The water does run so it clears very quickly. Hope that makes youfeel better
Really enjoyed this couple … hope they keep doing great !!!
I think I'm in love with Simon.. the man is a master of invention
That would be a lovely wedding venue.
I checked this Scottish castle on line to find out the affordability and it was about $2500~$3000 for 2 nights which is way above what I’m willing to pay. Other than that, it’s great to see a historic castle be saved!
I'd pay it in a bloody heartbeat as the experience would be priceless.
You have to consider that it's renting a place with accommodation for up to 16 people when you evaluate the cost. Short stays (2 nights being the minimum) are also going to be more per night. I picked a random date and it showed me $3,500 for 7 nights.
Wallace walk
Burns burn
Brave heartED.
I fought the bog

Loved this episode, this family is down to earth, wishing them the best on renovations!!
I worked 13 year in hospitality industry and honestly every time i saw old houses and castles that no life at all i see is opportunities.
What a sweet couple.
Incredible the history of this home, as with so many in Great Britain.❤
good morning thank you so much God's good an incredible place enhancement of every detail of the castles medieval generation history important to have them in the conservatory prestige a historical treasure
What a great idea mud running congratulations Simon you gave them inspiration
So happy to see them succeed ❤
The attitudes of Aditi and Simon made the difference in the success of keeping their family castle and making it a success. “We are both fighters”. They had only been there for two years and had not been there for years, waking up every day to such a monumental and daunting project, like other families had which can grind you down mentally and physically. My heart goes out to those who had to sell their country homes. It doesn’t mean they were failures. Everybody’s path in life is unique.
Two weeks!
Best of fortune for your family! Wonderful and down earth couple! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🇺🇸
I couldn’t believe that he held the original Robert Burns poem - with his bare hands - OVER THE DISH OF FOOD. Careless.
A lovely couple
oh my , that is marvelous, you have such great ideas
THEY DON'T NEED SIMON THEY NEED STEPHANIE JARVIS OF CHATEAU LALAND TO TEACH THEM HOW TO UA-cam😂😂😂
I would hate to be of the generation that loses the Family's castle.
I have the utmost respect for these beautiful estates.
Wishing them tons of success.❤
