This is genius! I just popped a long allen wrench into mine (selected the largest allen that would fit into the hole), heard that nice "click" and then pushed it forward. I actually laughed at how easy it was. Can't thank you enough sir!

*get something very sturdy, smack the brand new mag that has never had the plate removed since it was built an hit it with a hammer. It’ll push up then use a flat head to use force against it an push it out.

That is easy for a full capacity mag, but on a g17 10 round magazine it is nearly impossible to take the base plate out. please advice tnx.

I call BS on this entire video. Once you "rip" it off the first time you damage the tabs on the magazine body and now it is super easy to remove after that as the tabs are now ramped, not good. You really need to squeeze in on the sides to prevent damage to the tabs and keep them squared off.

I used a 3/16 pin punch, pushed all the way in, then pulled back, base plate popped right off. 43X 10 round Glock fac. magazine. Installed Pearce Grips PG-48 plates. I did elongate the holes in the Glock plates, just trashed those. I'll never need them anyway.

man stop bashing people for trying to figure out ways to get their base plates off almost every aftermarket magazine besides Glock original equipment does not have that same pin or pinhole or base plate and requires a completely different method of removal so you should be saying this way works only for Glock original equipment magazines

This doesn't work on the Maryland 10 round restricted mags.... I've bent 1 punch and broke 1 screwdriver and warped the hole in the bottom of the mag. What's weird is that the magazine has all 17 hole windows and DOES NOT have a rivet in it of any kind.... It's like the plastic is fused together or has been glued together somehow.... I litteraly gave up I was so God damn frustrated...

Same thing happened to me, and I was very confused/frustrated, but I discovered it didn't matter. Pay attention to the end of the video. As long as you have your screwdriver/punch angled against the inside of the magazine, you should be able to force it off. Just make sure you're putting pressure in the correct direction. I thought I'd ruined two mags but they were fine.

So in armorer school they advise that there is very little reason to disassemble the mag. These things truly last for decades. If you disassemble these more than you should ( and you typically should never have to ) you risk ending up with loose fitting base plate etc. and ...... "induced" issues with your mag that you really could have avoided.

No. It works just as easy on a brand new mag. People who are breaking and bending their tools are probably trying to pry the base plate in the wrong direction. It doesn't take much effort using this technique.

@@samlott99 Care to explain how you did this technique on a 10 round CA Compliant new mag? The punch will only insert just enough for the pin the clear the hole and no more. In this video he inserted the whole punch which would work fine, but the new mags, you can't even insert 1/3 of the punch, even if you try to do it at an angle. The only thing I've seen work is the aluminum baseplate tool that doubles as a bottle opener. There are some other tools, but they aren't worth the money.
