*Hey y’all! Man, I’ve finally started putting the work in on these brushes 😓 Got a loooong way to go but these exercises in the video have made almost an instant difference. Check em out and try them for yourself. Stay safe out there!* 😷✌🏽
Rob, this is brilliant stuff. Not learning a pattern, but the muscle memory to move and feel comfortable within patterns...man, just a good as it can be taught.
Thanks Rob. This is exactly what I needed! I bought a set of brushes back in December and got frustrated with my attempt to learn how to play them. This will be some great things to work on
So I wanted to learn brushes right after never really getting it. I though, "Let's see if Rob has anything." BAM! There it is. I'm going to do ovals every day now. Thanks for being there, Rob. I knew you would. Out front and on point!
Brushes can take a long time to master guys and girls! There is so many great brush players, Clayton Cameron is something else. I would also like to acknowledge Roger Sellers, another master from Wellington New Zealand (one of my teachers) who passed 4 years ago. Thanks Rob my groove has improved already.
Another great vid from a guy you just can't help but like on a human level as well as a skill level. Rob talks like a real person and not like a game-show host as many of these guys do.
Clayton Cameron has style for days. What a master, and we have the gift of how unbelievably lucid his teaching is. I like Jeff Hamilton, also, he had me when he mentioned Mel Lewis, and Rick Considine is another guy, I like his stories and I found his videos particularly useful when I was doing my early search. Yeah. Move the whole arm. Totally. Thanks for the vid, I dig it. Totally feeling that wrist thing you're talking about. Hadn't had it figured out, though. Move the whole arm for sure.
This video is so helpful to me. Never tried the brushes before and I only bought them for one song that i'm working on... but I've realised theres a whole lot to it that i never actually realised.. I kind of feel excited to learn this though
@ Rob Brown, That was awesome, I've never played with brushes, I always thought it was slapping the snare with the brushes, not scraping them across the drum head.
As a drummer that uses the fly swats quite a bit this is a great introduction. Although I must say I play my right hand almost palm upwards which allows me to flick my wrist for the little accents. Good work Rob.😘🥁🌻
Hi Rob - a bit like you - could get good results with tapping beat patterns but the swish being a bit ordinary. I was getting there but this is so good advice - thanks.
Hey all. I have played drums for years and just getting into jazz drums for an upcoming gig. Came from pop punk/ rock world and this is like learning a different instrument. I have a coated evans g1 head on my wood 5” snare. And man it was sounding so bright and too loud almost. Any tips?
Maaan, isn't that mic hanging over the 10" tom really annoying? Why don't you adjust the gooseneck? Great video btw! I just have to get some brushes now... Lol.
Yes. 2020 has sa far been some EMFUS. However... PERSPECTIVE! Let's not forget 1914. Has to be one of THE worst years in known history. I'm really trying to do some positive things for lyself; new gear - switched from Meinls to Zildjian Kerope, overhauling my practice, improving overall theory comprehension...

Mr. Rob Brown! You're always here when I need ya. No matter how much time has passed, the fundemetals are still relevant 👌🏾🤌🏾
The long awaited brush video
Admit I suck at brushes, committed to getting it solid. Thanks Rob👊🏽👊🏽
RB delivers again. Consistent high content.
Super informative! Thanks Rob!
You're a really good teacher, Rob. Well done

Thanks Rob -- I'm writing music where I wanted wind rushing through the trees .. the brush on the snare--- YaY!
Dang Rob. You so damn good. Man I love your videos. Keep them coming. Pretty please. LOL. Peace Beat Down Brown.

Old steam train sound really nice 👍🏻
Great lesson! I don't use brushes much but have always appreciated the smooth brush work by other drummers
Best brush lesson I've seen so far. Tnx a lot man.
Out of pure coincidence today my first pair of brushes arrived. Thanks Rob! Enjoying the vid as always, really needed it!

Simon, do you have any links for Roger Sellers? I looked him up, but can't find anything of him playing. Thank you.

Thank You so much, Rob. Very useful. Greetings from Germany.

Great exercise, i be working on it
What an eye opener! Thanks, Rob! Did it wrong all those years.
Thank you super helpful!
bravo Rob 👏 maybe now that you did this video now it will confirm that all drummers should know some basic brush skills for their toolbox. 👌🤙
Thank you.
Thank you for this video! I am going to practice this!
Brown my friend you've helped me once again! I'm doing my HSC this year and needed to use brushes for a song, yet I had no idea! Much love
Thanks Rob will work on my brushes skills. Clayton Cameron video was incredible.
Perfect timing, just got brushes!
Good stuff, as always

Awesome. Two shoulders in complementary motion feels a million times better.
Fantastic! Great stuff. Thanks. The best primer on brushes I've ever seen.
Xlent lesson.
Great lesson Rob!
Always love you say “changing the whole game”, awesome, inspiration and encouragement
This video is so helpful to me. Never tried the brushes before and I only bought them for one song that i'm working on... but I've realised theres a whole lot to it that i never actually realised.. I kind of feel excited to learn this though
@ Rob Brown,
That was awesome, I've never played with brushes, I always thought it was slapping the snare with the brushes, not scraping them across the drum head.
Great video, thank you!
You can add André Ceccarelli to the list !
Thank you, Rob :D
That was awesome!!!! Thanks so much!!!!!!
Thanks Rob! Hope I'll see another brushes lesson soon
Great lesson, rob you should look into drumtap , it’s much better than moon gel . And you can cut them in half.
As a drummer that uses the fly swats quite a bit this is a great introduction. Although I must say I play my right hand almost palm upwards which allows me to flick my wrist for the little accents. Good work Rob.😘🥁🌻
Great video! Thanks!
Check out Paulo Braga, he the Brazilian drummer who laid down the drum track for Tom & Elis Aqua de Marco in 74. It is poetry on the drum head.
In kinda curious who invented this brilliant way of playing… what was the idea behind it or what did the inventor tried to mimmic ? Great video man !
Another great video 👌
Hi Rob - a bit like you - could get good results with tapping beat patterns but the swish being a bit ordinary. I was getting there but this is so good advice - thanks.
Thx Rob
Is it possible to make a video on how to add accented notes once you have the basic technique done?
Dude! Amazing keep up the good work you inspire me! Somebody
Gifteded me a drum kit. I was into guitar. Now I just want to hit stuff
Going to Clayton Cameron now
Awesome!

This might be a stupid question, but I'm very, very new to drumming so bear with me please: can you play brushes on a electronic kit?
It's been a hot minute since I've heard someone name-check Clayton Cameron! Excellent recommendation!
I second that! Clayton Cameron is the king of brushes!
can i use brush on a e drum
How about with traditional grip.
I noticed the top brush is counterclockwise and bottom brush is clockwise.
Maaan, isn't that mic hanging over the 10" tom really annoying? Why don't you adjust the gooseneck?
Great video btw! I just have to get some brushes now... Lol.

Omg my last one..:
One more out of curiosity
thx man. you bad.
The stupidest year 🤣. That is twice you have made me wet myself.
Dude your snare head doesn’t even need to be cleaned that bad
