As a drummer, I got brushes recently and want to learn to use them. This is a super interesting lesson. All drummers need to know how to play with brushes. Drummers especially think brushes are only for jazz. I don't play jazz so I don't need to play brushes. No you can learn for the future in order to expand and make newer sounds
Astral Weeks (album) has the best brushes in music history
Every single thing this guy said is gold. Simplifying wakes up the instrument. I always want to hear the player and artistry behind the instrument(s) and his tips get you there. I would hire and produce this guy in a second!
I brushed along to that album for literally 2 minutes and my technique is already improving. Thank you
"brushes are meditative to me" - love it!
totally get that ... I feel the same way when I’m practicing double stroke rolls and paradiddles on the pad ... almost like getting into a trance ! Great stuff 🥁🇦🇺
Great tips. Brush sounds are one of the effects that draws me to percussion.
I didn't know who Jason Sutter was, so I googled to find out who he played with.
Marylin Manson?
Hmmm... Not one I would have guessed from his brush technique ^_^
Hah same with gil sharone
Nice video. I'm glad the tips were a little different than the typical suggestions. Those suggestions are good too - but different ideas can lead to different inspirations...
Wonderful brush technique. I enjoyed every note you played. Thank you for the excellent exhibition!
Great sound and technique.Thank you Jason.
Excellent. Thank you!!! Love especially the swimming analogy.
I like all the tips but, the last one was the most wise and wonderful tip. Thanks for your time.
thanks mate... great lesson... I learned brush technique from my teacher who was right into Jazz... watching Charlie Watts recently has given me that passion for practising Jazz playing ... so awesome 👏 🥁🇦🇺
I'm sorry dude. I never really was a big fan of Charlie and the stones but, as kind of a cliché I, after his passing started to get into his work. It's kind of sad, the fact that people don't show respect and actually realise what a man has done before he passes, and during his lifetime they just annoy him.
Really liked the 2nd and 3rd tips.. pretty helpful ,thankyou so much guru ji.
Out of this world! Inspiring!
Great video, thanks. Love the 'brushes in the dark' tip!
What a good lesson. Great lesson.
Jason Sutter, obrigado pelas dicas.Valeu!
I saw an amazing clinic with Elvin Jones before he passed. Someone said, "You play the brushes a lot, can you say something about them? In his really gruff, gravely voice he said , "Well the thing about the brushes is this: You want to make them sound like the waves hitting the sand at the beach. Go down to the beach and listen to the waves come in.......there are big waves, small waves, crashing waves, quite waves but the one thing that never happens is that the sound of the water against the sand never stops."
He then took his brushes out (and they looked like I would have thrown them away eons ago.........bent and skewed); put them down on the drum and began to play like the ocean.
He played for several minutes and I just closed my eyes and listened. It sounded EXACTLY like the waves at a beach. When he stopped, he got a standing ovation from a crowd filled with good drummers. The next day, I went down to the beach with my snare drum and there were four other
excellent drummers down at the same beach, trying to learn what Elvin had done the night before.
This is the first lesson I give to my brush students and I humbly submit it as
NUMBER SIX to Jason's really beautiful and informative lesson.
I"m adding turn the lights out to my regimen of teaching from now on. Thanks, JASON!!!!
Awesome tips bro!

Jason is awesome 👍
good and constructive information...thank you for sharing
Ottimi consigli, grazie!
Very cool. Thanks for this
I just want a girl to look at me the way he looks at that snare.
Garrett Carrigan same
With brushes, I often feel like my drum turns into a canvas, as if I am creating an imaginary portrait of music (I should write that down some where. That was deep)
First you must be actually something to want to look at like that second if that's what you want you probably won't get it the way you want it.
great advices!
Very useful!!
gostei de mais que você faz. obrigado por ensinar suas técnica.
Superb ✌🏻
Ammaaeizeeeengg!!!! candels and incense s actually a great booster for atmosphere :))
Great...the practice in the dark is great
This is great. Can we explore how Carl Palmer did that fully sick brush roll on the debut ELP album?
Ha, Guy couldn’t resist but drop the ‘I went to North Texas’ bomb. Good tips though!
Aha! So that's what those are! I always thought they were weird and always messed around with my dad's pair when he wasn't around his drum set.
What brushes do you recommend for a newbie?
Nice
Hey Drumeo folks, just wanna make a suggestion. I'm sure someone over there has heard of the Rodney Holmes cowbell groove? ;) I just learned it and I think it'd make for something interesting to teach people
Gold
Very SWEET!
Jason, great segment!!! What kind of brushes are you using?
His signature brushes, by Regal Tip.
which LUDWIG snares are you using?
Good video
Completely agree Greg.
Very well done its nice to see something useful from drumeo for a change
Thank you, 420 HighBoy.
Drumeo Lmfao.
Tip number three is pretty cymbal.
Niceeee
This guys tripped me out tbh. Most of the techniques he said. Move have been in a swimming pool. I don’t think is a coincidence once I picked up the brushes it came in natural.
Please get Danny Carey on.
What are those brushes
"Tai Chi with sound" B-)
Amazing tips, but if I show up in a gig with just a snare drum, the band will probably fire me on the next day ahahahaha
Let's go UNT alum!
Do " Walk on the wild side"
Now I want to play brushes.
Likewise!! brushes have become a dying art. Wonderful lesson!
Thank you Dara that's very kind of you. Much appreciated
I don't know if its just me but 300 bpm brushes are super meditative too
And pretty little cloud here. Lol

Josh Kwon expensive ones
Jason Sutter’s ’The Sutter’ brushes from Regaltip.
How dirty does a drum get if you gotta use brushes??
Those 18 dislikes must be real pros huh..
Lmao
Where can I find cheap brushes
I'm pretty sure they aren't too expensive. You can get a good pair for 20$ I've had mine for nearly 20 years. Look on Amazon.
Richsticks.com
Cheap brushes aren't good...good brushes aren't cheap!
this guy play for marylin manson fyi
Stop changing camera angles. Either PIP it or stick to one view. good explanation of how you motion your wrists
I'm thinking of buying a lowboy hi-hat and just brush away the world!!!

I wish drumeo didn't down the lights in one section of the video
1:30
It almost sounds like a shower, when he is playing in the dark
GET MATT MCGUIRE IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tip number 3 is basically do asmr
can't you just play that the brushes don't get in each other's way?
He looks too cool for brushes. Oh well. Don't judge a book by its cover, right?
David McAninch what you on about mate, brushes are cool AF.
TheZooNinjaS I can't play brushes tho.
yeah, that's implying brushes aren't cool when in fact they totally are.
Thank you for not saying "brush up on your brush playing"
why does this look like Ned Stark and jack white had a kid
Btw, feel free to practice with just a snare. But for Gods sake don’t just show up to a gig with just a snare.
Since when did Criss Angel start playing drums?!
It might as well be Chris angel cause his drumming is magic
29 thumbs down.... so 29 people think they know more about brush technique then Jason does, but the still don't know enough to get a spot appearance on Drumeo...
I am sure I can name 29 people better with brushes that have never been on Drumeo....also, you don’t have to be better than him to not enjoy this video or to find his advice not helpful.
"Practice this in the swimming pool with your eyes closed."
Well, s*** *****, that's all you had to say!
This is applicable on women too, but without the brushes... :D :D!
O Signore. Just loosing virility watching this. Good lesson however! Very
I wish he would toss his hair more often. Also, needs more duckface.
So cool. Thanks!
