I've been at a basic beginner plateau for two flippin' years. This was the most helpful video exercise I've come across to break through. It took me months and MONTHS (cuz I'm old), but I'm finally unlocking my limbs from safe & boring old habits and starting to explore the kit in ways I dreamt of. Don't give up on this excercise! -- especially if, like me, you feel your limb independence & coordination isn't improving and that you'll never get it. Trust in BdB.
I’m getting back into it too and I can’t for the life of me get #2 to work for me. Number one and three were a one time and got it, but #2 IS LOCKING ME UP IN MY BRAIN AND I CANT SLOW IT DOWN ENOUGH TO GET.
Well it’s official. I suck. I thought I didn’t but I now realise I do. Thank Rob......seriously, for taking me out of my comfort zone rut and genuinely learning new exercises
*HEY Y'ALL!...If your hand and foot coordination is in the toilet...I can GUARANTEE YOU that these simple exercises will get it in shape! Cool, practical and most importantly...MUSICAL. Cheggit out!* 🔥😎🥁#AdmitAndCommit
I never taught my left foot to keep time and now... I'm having serious problems doing exercise two and three. I just can't separate my two feet for some reason. ARGH !... More practice required.
I forgot to mention that my right hand still keeps wanting to follow my right foot but, that gives something to focus on .I remember my old hockey coach would all ways tell us to work extra hard on your weaknesses along with every thing else. My hands are real quick ,that's a plus .
I love how encouraging he is. Just like.. "It's just muscle memory, it can be fixed, anyone can do it, etc" Makes me feel way better, regardless if it's true or not. Great teacher.
A year and a half of self teaching to your videos and I can only say thank you for unlocking my limbs for percussion therapy. The feeling you get when you finally nail the 3rd pattern is euphoric, courtesy of Mr. Brown. Thank you sir
I been playing drums for 10 years without real knowledge of drums. I just bought my first kit. You are a life saver on retraining myself the right way. Thank you from Oklahoma.
same dude but for me i've been playing drums for 3 years now. I am always get so jealous with those "My [insert number] year of drumming progress" videos because they develop so fast and here i am 3 years of playing i don't know what i am doin lmao.
I've been playing in the UK for over 20 years and taught by the late great Paul Brodie (BBC Big band)..Still learning and really enjoying these videos by Rob...highly recommend.
Hi Rob, just found you as I started learning to play the drums six weeks ago at the age of 65. This is exactly what I need at this stage, to prove to myself that I can make my four limbs independent. Thanks man, and love the pdf comment.
Hi Rob, I have had such a difficult time with separating hands and feet and left and right over the years that at times i thought it may drive me crazy. I have to say that if I had met you way before now I would be a much better drummer. The way you explain things and the exercises you show are just fantastic. I feel like I have finally started to put some difficulties behind me thanks to your teaching abilities. Thank you so much !! Blessings, Brian
This is where I draw the line ! I go no further until I master these 3 lessons... I've been away from my drums for a year because my job... I quit my job!!! Hello drums... Mr. BROWN your a great teacher and a blessing to the drum community! God bless brother!
I STARTED PRACTICING THE RllR llRL ON THE SNARE (IM ABOUT TO BUY MY PRACTICE PAD) AND WHEN DID THE FIRST REPETITION, IT SONDED AWESOME. THANKS ROB I LOVE ALL YOUR LESSONS.
Thanks Rob. My son got me my drum kit,I’ve been at it 4 yrs? I think. I go to paid lessons each week now. I hate it. I practice daily for 30 min. minimum daily. Sometimes that’s fun. Following along to your videos is fun. I’m determined for some reason to be a drummer? I’m the old man version of the kid who hates his life and wants out of a small town he’s trapped in,playing to get good enuf to hopefully one day escape. Only I’m old, made few bucks, but still want out, hope the drums make it happen. Thanks again for putting time and effort into teaching people you may never meet. Pretty noble cause sir. E

This is the Lesson I've been Dreaming of. Thank You.
This is it! Beatdown, you are easily the best drum teacher I've found on UA-cam so far. Your tutorials are so straight forward and easy to understand and I can tell your philosophy of music aligns pretty close with mine. I'm on day three of drumming and I can already do the second beat with the snare and ride and I've even been able to add in some ghost notes, swap between the first and second kick pattern, eng I'm working on adding a paradiddle in. Like I feel like I actually have some control of the drum kit and it's the best feeling in the world. Seriously I can't thank you enough.

I've been learning a good lot from your videos. Thanks from Brazil!
I’m brand new to this at 58 but my church needs a drummer and I’m gonna follow you and get this. Just retired so this will be my new hobby. Pray for me…Lol
It took me around 4-6 hours (around 2 hours per day. I'm not crazy, yet) to process the last one and understand when I was supposed to hit my cymbal 😆. Thanks for the lesson
Been trying to get the right hand on the ride for a few weeks now, I think I had a breakthrough last night! SO EXCITING. Definitely been the hardest exercise I've done so far.
Ask and I shall receive. I asked if you had any coordination exercise videos for the feet during your live shot yesterday. Just what I needed brother. Thank you. Alex in Agawam
Exercise 3 almost broke my poor beginner soul. Seeing it written down really helped. The i broke it down into really slow motion, counting out loud each beat, doing even just 1/4 of the bar over and over to just prove i could do each individually. Finally able to play it with my hands going to. Now to get the metronome out and slowly build up speed.
The 3rd pattern reminds me of the song “Footloose”. This was definitely helpful. The same with the video before this one. I’m using the steps as a warmup before my drum lesson. Thank you so much. This is will came in handy.
I see what you mean. Some call that the "Bo Diddley Beat", but HE DIDN'T INVENT IT. That is an OLD African pattern that found its way into blue, R&B, rock, funk, jazz, etc. songs.
I am such a novice that I am embarrassed to say that I actually need to see #3 written out. Great video as always though and what a cool snare! Thanks Rob for all you do here.
Thank you Rob Brown. You were very helpful I just play around with a beginners drum set in our room when I have time . .I'm 68 years old and a Christian anyway thank you. :) Joge Salas Of Wyoming, Michigan.
I thought I would never get the second and third beat, but once I got it down it changed the ability for me to pick up different beats. It also helped me to eye the hi hat and kick combinations and how to put them together to help play the beat smoothly. Thanks Rob.
Thank you Sir. I'm just learning thru tutorial videos as I can't afford to go on music school. Appreciate it. I have to save money to buy my set soon :)
Man, I can do these feet movements all day but as soon as I try to add a hand it sounds like someone threw the kit down a staircase. 😅 Look forward to getting lots of recurring views on this video from me in the future. Thanks, Rob!
You know Rob,those exercises you give us for hands can work for the feet too. It takes time to work up doubles with the feet. I practice on the floor mostly, but when I get on the set, lots of things can happen. My high hat foot is busier now . Thanks for the great videos, love them.
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 thank you for making me a better drummer! Congratulations for those text add-ons, they're on point 🤙🏻. Can't wait to try these out on the kit. All the best 🤜🏻🤛🏾
It's amazing how quickly this helps--at least if you're a beginner like me. Of course, I'm not tearing up things (I'm at about 60 BPM so far), but that will come...
Thank you! Couple of days and impossible becomes possible. Another cool exercise i figured out: paradidle on snare and ride, foots on hihat every second stroke, bass on 1, 4 and 6 stroke.
I play guitar. But I think drum practice methods just get better results . I know that people say there is this thing called styles of music but I feel like when you see things like that , your limiting your tools.
Rob, I’ve been a subscriber for a long time now and enjoy opening my email just to find another great video from you. You’ve helped me a lot over the years but I think in my opinion your wrong on not needing a pdf on some of your exercises; personally I need to look at the notes just to burn them into my head if that makes sense. I can watch some drummers play something great but find it hard to duplicate it if I don’t have the notes.
Hi! I just start taking drum lessons and I’m more than a beginner😳 Can someone please explain the second exercise with the foot? I can’t get it. Is it left foot, then right foot and then lef+right foot on the same time and so on or how? I find it very hard to understand the moves. Thank you!😊
This is the first tutorial after buying my electronic drumset, the first 2 days kf practice i got 1 and 2, but 3 was too hard, then on the third day i got it from the go. Amazing stuff!
Thank you rob! This works! I’ve been struggling with independence for years. Part time weekend drummer, I literally never though I would accomplish this. These techniques work! Thanks Rob
Hey Rob, great lesson, I've been playing for close to 40 yrs. now. I still enjoy and learn from you almost every day. Question: What mixer and DAW are you using?
Awesome lesson brother. You always have practical advice that's easy to follow. If you ever do any clinic's in Oregon I'll do what I can to get there. Thanx much
I'm a super beginner . It took me 3 bloody days to be able to play the all lot properly lol :-) Cheers m8. This lesson is pure gold for a bassist who want to be able to get some drumming together . ta a lot

Great info presented in a direct and unpretentious manner. As usual!

exercise 1: 7:06
exercise 2: 8:15
exercise 3: 9:25
I have a question. For the quarter note on ride and back beat on snare exercise, is the hi hat with foot counted on and ? I just want to be sure
Cherry my friend, I'm 55 and bought my first kit 3 months ago and love your lessons x
