    When we make decks, we use quarter-sawn wood which is a vertical grain-very straight lines. You have painted your hatch with a flat grain pattern. Flat grain wood can not be used as a deck because it expands and contracts at a different rate than the pieces on either side and will just tear itself apart during weathering.. All decks on every boat/yacht uses only quarter-sawn wood.. Meaning your paint job is technically incorrect.
