    Years ago,1990's, I restored a Triumph and found an old Polish guy in London to restore the dash and door cappings,one capping was past repair but the grain matched the other,I couldn't find a set or even a pair so I left them with him reluctantly accepting that he would veneer the damaged one but I d lose the continuity. when I picked them up he had painted the grain on the damaged re veneered one to match the original,it was a beautiful job,wish I still owned the car. but anyway It's great to see such skills still being practiced,especially by someone so relatively young.

    I have often found a brush dipped in the lightest amount of mineral spirits , dried and they ran with the grain across the pigments to help create a more natural look in light woods and finishes. Have had to do this many times on refinish and repair veneered, fire rated doors.

    After some time you'll be able to see painted parts as the wood will change his colour due to U.V but not the paint.
    I've seen that phenomenon on many old restored furnitures.

    • @bainsk8
      @bainsk8 3 роки тому

      My thoughts entirely. As a trained French polisher I know from experience that earth pigments hold their colour better than the natural colour of wood. UV has the tendency to bleach woods over time.
