Its the upper stage of a space x rocket. The upper stage always burns up after the payload has been dropped. Usually over the Indian ocean but this rocket was launched in California.
I saw it an hour south of Las Vegas at about 1:42 am. A few minutes later it sounded like fireworks exploded and all the coyotes started yelping afterwards.
That must have been a 2nd one. The first was seen over LA about 7:45. I can't imagine the same one burned for 6 hours and took 6 hours to get to Vegas.
@BenMercy That explains that one, thanks. So I guess the people commenting here didn't see the one at 1:30-1:45. a.m. I'm in s. AZ and was asleep when it happened. Would have been interesting to see if it was visible this far south. I saw the Columbia disaster go by years ago and that looked similar.
It looks very much like what the Columbia looked like when it broke up on re-entry. I vote for a space craft or very large satellite disintegrating and burning up in the atmosphere.. No one has mentioned what direction the debris was travelling in. That would be the best clue as to its origin.
@@shaynejenkins446 I would need to know what direction the debris was headed to even make a guess - I'm surprised so many people seem to "know" what it was without that information. I'll take a guess and say it was 2nd stage of the SpaceX rocket launch; we saw this over WA/OR a couple years ago and it wound up being a secondary stage of a SpaceX launch to get Starlink satellites in orbit; apparently didn't quite make it where they could control its descent and so it burned up on reentry.
