Before I even watch this video I want to say thanks! I know I might be late here but it’s crazy how there’s a lack of such content online. I’ve graduated with Master, had several great roles in management, worked around the world, yet this lack of confidence is destroying me! Every time I start a new job I get anxious to not meet KPIs, I always think I’m under qualified for the role, and that Ive been hired out of luck! I often realise that most people in their jobs have little experience or knowledge yet they are respected and make themselves look smart and important because they are confident! I wish everyone to overcome this issue, I think the best way is to step out for a sec and remember we’re not defined by our job.

Thank you so much for reaching out and sharing. Believe it not, this is a common "story" many people tell themselves. You aren't alone in this. So many great achievers secretly fear they'll be found out as a fraud in what they do. Head over to my website and download my free ebook. I think you'll get a lot out of it. Here's a link: www.socialconfidencecenter.com/products/5-steps-to-unleash-your-inner-confidence/ Let me know what you think!

    Hi Dr. Aziz,
Thank you massively. This is truly gold!
I suffer from authority anxiety and is just my experience at work!
The idea of slavery is spot on, though I have never heard it expressed in that way before.
I have felt enslaved (so trapped) in those three areas of my life in terms of what I _must_ do:
    1 - Culture/Society.
    2 - Law.
3 - The Employer, the line manager, the boss.
It’s where I _must_ be the man of the highest calibre, yes that 100% perfection, that Superman that you mention, especially for women, and that I _must submit to authority!_
The notion of losing everything - job, woman, home, life - has been my lifelong fear (it’s a good job that I live singly at the moment!).
It’s interesting that my primary title, and most poignant title, that I have felt most a slave, is “gentleman”, which goes along with Superman, Spartacus, James Bond, etc. I am being a slave or 'slave' to the culture.
So when in Rome, I _must_ do as the Romans do, (I have called it the ‘Rome cage’) and If I don't ...... AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH! 😬😲☹🤐
I am living that dream at work, that of draughtsperson, and have done since 1987 and have fought through my fears in all that time!
Now, I need to find the confidence that _I_ want, and _not_ the confidence that I am told to have, tell those ‘tellers’ to ‘do one’, and not to rely on the ‘authority’ to ‘approval’, a kind of ‘Please sir, am I doing this right?’
Goodbye ‘Eeyore’ and hello ‘Tigger’! 🐯

My daughter showed me your videos, and oh man, do they hit home. I am the biggest ass kisser in a social setting especially at jobs. I smile constantly, worry obsessively about what I say, how I act.. will everyone like me. I would say "good morning" to everyone at work, every single morning, first. Starting new jobs, I would put my hand out to introduce myself to each and every worker there. They'd look at me like I was from another planet. I would always tell myself, "do not say hello first, let them acknowledge you one time," but I would always give in and say hello because it felt so awkward to not acknowledge them.. though I wondered why they didn't seem to care if they greeted me. I hated the awkward silences if alone with someone. I would ask them about their lives, how they're doing, how they're kids are.. etc.. And, never ever did anyone ask about my life. I would leave work, say bye to everyone every single time I left, and one day I remember I told myself, "Do not say bye to these people." They watched me clock out, and leave and no one acknoweldged me leaving. It was very hard to not say "have a good night, see ya later" but I didn't. It felt good on one hand, but also an isolation that was uncomfortable. I have noticed that the more nice I am to co-workers, the more they seem to dislike me. So, watching your videos has helped me see what I'm doing wrong, and is helping me change my ways. I have felt alone in my awkwardness and anxiety my whole life.. never feeling like I fit in. I appreciate your videos.

hey Kim, you and I share the same feeling and way of life. I am a guy and probably way younger than you but the feeling I am having exactly matches yours. I am tired of being this all good guy. I am reading about other people and their way of life and now i don't think i am alone out there. I am learning to be better and I hope you will be better too. Cheers !!!

Kim Walker Hi, me too, Everyone at work is ignorant, I would be the one to say hi, receiving no acknowledgement, I thought why should I change to suit them ,so now I talk if they do first, people only like talking about themselves..x.

Your message about being able to face the fear of being fired could be applied to many different fears. I freeze when I encounter issues that other ppl seem to have no problem with. I recently noticed that the door on my dishwasher was leaking and it totally disabed me for the day. I felt this anxiety because I didn't know what to do. Its like I always need someone to provide advice or help me. I have no trust in my own capabilities.I need to just sit with that feeling and send it love. Then, think through some solutions. You're awesome, Dr. Aziz.

Great video and great advice about being strategic when finding something one's passionate about. I obviously can't quit my job (I am actually kind of eye something in a different dept) and spend all my hours preparing for something else, but I can carve out time to learn things on my own and build my skill set. I think people are afraid of risk (I was, or am) so it's important to know that we don't have to take drastic measures to find something that's more fulfilling.

I'm so glad I found this video. I work in consulting and I've been upset that I'm not getting enough billable time because the owner doesn't trust me. I got written up (on my day off, over the Holidays) for failing at a task that is outside of my job description and they knew was beyond my expertise - I don't think ahead enough, I don't seek help when needed. Then a client gives poor directions that I mis-understand and then when it's not what they expect they complain to me and cc my boss and I just feel like they don't trust me and the self-esteem spiral starts. Doubt creeps into my mind - am I really good enough for this? How do people get to the top of their careers and never make mistakes?

    • @GetMoreConfidence

Everyone makes mistakes. One of the best approaches is making sure everyone's expectations are clear before you ever start any task.

I've heard it's a great job for a young person and a handful of people a couple of grades above said it was great.
