When a neuroscientist says more empathy is what society needs most today, you listen... Everyone is too self focused; and of course, when you only think about your problems, they become huge and anxiety inducing.
Just be kinder, truly listen, give your mom a hand. Just look a little beyond yourself. Breathing and exercise do wonders, but it's empathy that really reframes your mind.

      1. Deep breathing is a simple yet effective way to calm your mind and body. Take slow, deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth to help relax your body and reduce stress.
      2. Moving your body with positive affirmations can help improve your mood and boost your self-confidence. Incorporate movement into your daily routine while reciting positive affirmations to yourself to foster a more positive mindset.
      3. Showing empathy towards others can also have a positive impact on your well-being. By putting yourself in someone else's shoes and understanding their perspective, you can build stronger connections with others and cultivate a sense of compassion and understanding in your own life.

I agree….That’s why I mostly stopped following the news about a year ago. I get daily email summaries of the news from the AP and the New York Times, but I almost always just glance at the headline of the emails and don’t open them. If I do open them, I only glance at the headlines inside. I also found a way to disable news stories showing up automatically on my Google search page.
It’s a huge change from when I used to be way too consumed and affected by all the suffering and negativity in the world. I’m very sensitive and empathetic, and it was causing me tremendous stress, anxiety and sadness to be aware of every horrible thing happening all over the world, in excruciating detail, the moment it happened. We’re not meant to live like that!! Not to mention, I could have been spending that time doing something more productive for my own life.
The media knows negative stories draw more attention, so that’s what they flood us with. It seems like the world is about to end every day for a million different reasons…but it’s been like that for as long as I can remember.
There is value in being aware enough of societal issues to be an educated voter and to contribute however you can to causes that are important to you. Beyond that, I think it’s important, especially for sensitive people like me, to realize there is absolutely NOTHING most of us can do about the things we read about in the news, and to trust that there are people out there who CAN do something and are doing it.

This was very briefly mentioned at the start of the video but feeling stressed is not clinical Anxiety. The distinction was then buried in some already fairly well known techniques for reducing stress levels.
I have professionally diagnosed Clinical Depression and Anxiety (GAD, Social). I also get stressed about every day things like running late for appointments, having to make an awkward phone call, etc.. These are two very different things. My Anxiety ( before treatment) was a persistent feeling of 'something' being wrong, I'd made a mistake, being judged, I'm not good enough..... . These thoughts were there from as far back as I can remember and I needed more than just breathing or moving to reduce the symptoms.
I don't work in the medical field, but there seems to have been an over-correction to the supposed over prescription of antidepressants. This could be putting some people at risk of not seeking professional help for clinical depression and/or anxiety.

If the fear is not a realistic one even though you feel it genuinely, like the ET will invade the earth, you may need therapy. I went through both types of fear and that was my opinion😊

This is a general statement that's often applied to every medical issue. There are professionals who've talked about why anxiety exists as a natural function and how it's different from chronic anxiety as well as its causes. There are some exceptionally accessible explanations by psychologists on UA-cam itself. Also this is a myth that anxiety wasn't a serious issue several decades ago. Some of the environmental factors that contribute to chronic anxiety have existed for centuries. Not all of those factors have been a new creation.

Rather than empathy, I prefer compassion. I found that as an empath, others’ feelings became my own and as someone who already struggles with anxiety, that wasn’t helping. If someone struggles to feel empathy though, empathy all the way. But for those of us that need to keep a layer of distance to help us help others, then compassion

Does anyone here with anxiety actually feel that deep breathing helps?? I have tried every version of it and have never found any reduction in my anxiety, yet every book and article is like, “take slow, deep breaths.” It doesn’t help in real world application, or even if it temporarily calms me, the anxiety floods back as soon as the breathing exercises are finished…

I find it helps me to calm down but it has to be belly breathing which I learned from a kids video believe it or not. When you breathe in your nose your belly goes out, not your chest and shoulders it has to be done through the stomach for it to activate the parasympathetic nervous system which then calms the body.

The wrong thinkings everyone often meet. First: anxiety is bad, reality, anxiety help people stay safe. Second: don't have anxiety in body. Anxiety both good and bad. We should balance to it is help our. How to way help calm anxiety: breathing exercise, move (15 minute is good). When you do it you can control it, empathy with orther people, happy life. I will practice everyday.

1a. If anxious bc OVERWHELMED: lower workload somehow.
1b. If anxious bc INSECURE ABOUT SKILLSET: delegate to someone who has the skills, gain the skills, or inspect if insecurity is valid here.
1c. If anxious bc UNSUPPORTED: get support. If you have no one? Then idk.. 🤷‍♀️
    2. Dance 10mins to music

      Sorry for your loss.
I recently watched as my friend wasted and died of ALS. Very sad. However, if this can help in any way,
I choose to focus on the fact that I am alive. My friend would have wanted me to take advantage of the years she was robbed of. As Albert Camus wrote, life may be absurd and meaningless, so let's enjoy it.
Lavish yourself with all the wonderful sensations of having a body alive today.
It makes me enjoy the short life I have and try to make the world a happier place for those I share it with. Thus also giving me a purpose, which also helps bring joy.
My condolences. I hope this could help even a little.

Breathing works to calm down and going out into a green space can also help reduce anxiety. At least walk away from your desk for a while. ♥
