I discovered the cottage my son now lives in just over the boundary of my farm half mile away from my farmhouse. My goats had been escaping from the field and were gradually eating a pathway through the over grown garden. A very long 9 month story cut short, I found out locally more about the place and that an English couple had bought it years ago but nobody knew anything about them or where they were. I did eventually use the Land Registry and I found their names but not them, they had returned to the UK. I then had to find a way to track them down which I did through the UK Electoral Register by process of elimination and a lot of letters. Basically the house was originally listed with an Auctioneers but they felt they had been abandoned by them. They were delighted to sell the cottage privately as they had been unable to settle here for various reasons and I got a bargain.
I’ve wanted to do up a derelict she’ll go a house near my home house I’d say ever since I was in primary school, now I’m in my twenties and looking for something else similar. The dream never died but I’m too nervous to approach my neighbor, as you’ve said land is a very sensitive issue in Ireland and I’m not sure he’d take it well. It will always break my heart watching it crumbling though, I’d love to have saved it
Did you manage to approach the neighbour? There is nothing wrong with asking. For a moment of awkwardness, you could open the door to a future in a happy renovated house!
@@lazycarper7925 Were pn a small budget to but I believe it will come to us...Field of dreams...if you build it they will come :) I wish you success on your hunt :)
Such a coincidence. I actually drove to the address of tge owner of a house I've visited for ten years. I had written a letter 5 years ago and stuck it in tve broken window pane but no response. When I turned up yesterday at the door and spoke to the owner's wife politely, she was lovely but said that he wouldn't be selling as it was of sentimental importance to him and he loves visiting it. I could see that someone goes there and lights the fire and sits on an old armchair in the gutted kitchen. I politely thanked her, quick chat, and also asked if it was okay to leave my name and number just in case he changed his mind. Was that a bit ott? I hope it wasn't disrespectful!
When you purchase and download the pdf, the postal address of the owner is written on the pdf. You can then write them a polite letter asking if they would consider selling xx

can you do an episode on your house? and how it looked before and after you did it up? :) you're an inspiration!! love your channel!
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Your observations about respect and manners and sensitivity are incredibly valuable
Love the channel! You give such great informative details. I truly appreciate it.
You are my new best friend! I love watching! I love the UK . I binge you😂🇮🇪
Best way in Ireland is to ask around locally cause 90% of the time in Ireland everybody knows everybody so good chance of finding out who owns it
Thanks for this video, what does it mean if the search states that the land is not registered with the land registry?

The hardest person to buy property from is an Irish person! There is a DEEP longstanding connection to the land that dominates emotions
