My old aluminum road bike looks very close to this! I stripped the paint (left it raw aluminum). Switched it to 1x, chopped the drops. Its a blast to ride!
Thanks for the update! This was a good experiment and provides insights to those of us considering a similar project.
Glad it was helpful!
Cool video Bruce.
thank you Anthony, hope you are doing well my friend.
This video answered a lot of questions for my bed. I have the rust too going to remove the rust and spray it with the clear coat thanks.
You're very welcome
Awesome job , thanks for sharing , I am a subscriber .
thank you!
Nice lugged steel bike👌
Thanks 👍
On refinishing frames, Sheldon Brown says a finishing coat is not enough to protect against rust. Primer paint contains zinc, which slowly corrodes over time and protects the steel from rusting. I think the spider rust looks cool, but it's probably going to keep going deeper and destroy the frame :(
yeah that sounds correct from what I'm seeing also.
so either enjoy it bare until the frame dies or paint it :(
The same type of rust appears under paint as well, you just can't see it.
that's an interesting thought I had not considered.
That rust looks awesome. It shouldn’t ever progress to a point where the structural integrity of the frame is compromised
I'm not really liking the look, but at least it's a story lol
This is just what happens with clearcoats on raw steel frames. To a lot of people it's very appealing and attractive. Also it's nothing to worry about. It's just surface rust. Sure, over enough time it will become excessive, but it would be a long number of years before you'd have to worry about the surface rust. Look at Mash Work framesets. Keyword "patina". That's with a good quality factory clearcoat that comes stock on the frameset
Go for a chrome paint lol. Keep the vibe but without the spider webbing
lol yeah could do that, not sure about how that chrome paint really looks though. Could do real chrome, which would look really wild, but I guess would add a lot of weight.
@@BruceChastain a mm or less would give a good coat. Chrome plating is tough.
any way you can talk about your headset/fork/stem setup?? im assuming thats 1" threadless???
it is a pretty simple 1" threadless. But I get a log of questions about that, maybe I'll do a quick video on it.
What metal is the bike. ,,,,, Tange, Reynolds or columbus,,,,.????
I don't remember to be honest. I think it might have just said 4130.
@@BruceChastain thank you for your response,,,,still a beautiful bike ,,, nice, simple and a piece of art….make a complete Gruppo and it will be amazing,,,,salutations from Portland Oregon
