    🎹 Learn to play piano using my melody in the right hand video. The is a simple formula you can use that works for beginners to get you started. I usually want to play a song that it is on the album, but sometimes melody in the right hand can be very useful in certain situations. I’ve been teaching for almost 4 decades, and I started on UA-cam 18 years ago. I did so well that I started my website, webpianoteacher.com, and we’ve been going strong ever since. You will not find the accuracy, expertise, and care that I put into my lessons anywhere else on the internet. Period.
    🔥 With so many free piano lessons on youtube, why do people continue to pay me thousands of dollars a week to transcribe and teach their requests? For one, you will not find more accurate arrangements of the songs I’m hired to teach anywhere on the web. Period. I have perfect pitch and was born with an ear for hearing and understanding any piece of music I listen to. I say this not to brag, but as a testimony of the gift God gave me and how He intends me to use it: to teach people how to play the music they love, EXACTLY the way they hear it on the album, in a way that is manageable and doable for the average music lover.
    🔥 Piano Lessons Gone NUTS! Another video of MANY where Shawn answers the common everyday questions about music that everyone has. I've taught piano lessons for over 23 years, and played professionally for longer than that! No cold lifeless animated lessons here, or watered down lessons by someone who doesn't understand themselves what they are trying to teach you! I'm ready to teach and help you to reach your goal and dream of playing the piano successfully. Enjoy.

    I've been hunting for someone who creates the best explanatory tutorial and shows theory matched with practice with other variations added. By gosh, I've looked at many and I'm very pleased to at last find your channel. You teach, show, explain, demonstrate, add to and orchestrate in a superb step-by-step logical way. Very well done. Although I have tutorials from myself learned past, I needed to get some structure and understanding of how songs are actually played regarding chord melody. I hear songs but couldn't fathom out how they were being created on the combination chords/melody etc. This lesson alone clarified what I needed to know. So thank you. I'm seeking to song creations but didn't fully know how it worked. Now I do!

    Woah! Your voice is so freakin' amazing! You can sing that high, in mix, head and falsetto, and have total control over your voice. Also, sounds good to the ears, and that's what matters. I'm a guy too, and I can't freakin' sing high at all. I wanna sing high so bad, but nothing helps right now.
    You, probably can, tell me how you sing so high. Can you? :D

    Thanks for posting a video on this topic! At the most basic level (and explained in only 43 words): Play melodic notes at 1, 3, or 5 note intervals ABOVE (+1 octave) notes played with left hand pinky on down beats. Between down beats, play notes to connect melodic notes played on down beat to melodic note played on next down beat.

I wish I could help you more, but that website was the only one that helped me. You always have to remember to have the melody note on top and which chord is the one that will allow you do this without making your hand jump alot. You have to have in mind what is the shortest way to achieve that

    Basically, this guy was talking about chord inversions, the different ways to play certain chords. For example, if you see this chord C/E, that means you play the C chord with the E note in the bass.

  • @arghallum

    Good lesson :). However, in the example it's fortunate that all the melody note exists in the corresponding chord. What about other songs that have non-chord melody notes (passing tones)? How do you put them on the right hand chord? Just combine them (thus pressing 4 keys (3 chord notes + 1 non-chord melody))? Please teach us. Thanks :D

    (Notice on your left hand ,you say C chord but you play a "C to C an Octave" and the right hand you play the "C chord" with 1st or second inversion depending on the melody. But WOW, this video was my missing link in my music life, and something just trigger in my head, so I click like and subscribed and rang that bell too.

    you have not said anything about how to apply a chord to a melody .
    i have learned all the major/minor chords but im confused how to use specific chords for a song ( lets say how do i know , what chords do i have to apply , major or minor , when to use C major or E major etc)
    i mean which ever key you press with your right hand , do you apply that chords ?
    ( lets say a part of a song starts or ends with E key , so i do have to apply E major chords ? )
    im just confused how /when / where to apply specific chords
    thanks

    Hi there. Thanks for the lesson mate. One thing i'd like to know is how did you get to this chords from the melody ? You say the melody is on top, so for the first G, why is the chord an Em and not a G is the 2nd inversion ? I can find melodies, I know my chords and inversions but I always struggle to find my chords from the melody...
    Thanks a lot for your help !! M.

    Those of you who are saying the lesson is awesome, since u were once a noob too, could you pliz explain what we are wondering? Why Em chord for G note in the melody? Or is the answer for that only in the paid section?

    • @iwriteforyouonline
      @iwriteforyouonline 10 років тому

      I hope that this answer clarifies instead of confuses, but he only has three choices of vanilla triad chords that contains the G note, and will keep the song in key: C, Em, and G.
      Any other melody note has only two or three choices as well, when you limit your choices to: 1)only major or minor triads 2)chord stays in key 3) chord contains the melody note.
      The Key of C is easy because it contains only white notes. But take any other key, play its major scale, and then learn the major and minor (not diminished) chords that only use the notes of that scale. You'll quickly learn what the limits are and what chords match up with each note of the scale.
      Musicians stray from these limits all the time, but that's where creativity and/or more advanced music theory comes in.

  • @anthonydiaz3386

    Shawn, with all due respect to your teaching method, you should explain to people that what your actually doing is called "chord inversions with melody notes on top of them" to make more sense. In this video, you haven't said a single word about inversions and this is misleading. You just explain it in an old traditional way called "Just Memorize the Shape and You'll Be Fine".
    That is the reason why people are lost here. Don't get me wrong but I am truly amazed by the number of likes you got.

    Does the method I describe below encapsulate and simplify the process (play the chord that carries the melodic note) outlined in your video?
    METHOD: Find the basic chord to go with a melodic note played on the next down beat by choosing the root note for the chord at 1, 3, or 5 (+1 octave) note intervals BELOW the melodic note.
    UUUUMU3U5
    UU1UMU5UU
    1U3UMUUUU
    M=melodic note on next down beat
    1=root note of basic chord

    5=3rd note of the basic chord

    • @wildroot2762
      @wildroot2762 8 років тому

      +Abeer Barram
      This is good. But new people don't know why choose Em for G or choose G7 for the D. Notice I said G7 for the D because I do understand the melody is ending and V7 is going home to I.
      Some choices are made because that is simply the way the original song is written. If you chose Gmaj for the first G notes, it may not sound like the original song. The song would sound reharmonized.
      Also Gmaj is good for the G if you are creating a different song or as I said you intentions are to reharmonize old song. It has a lot to do with what you want to hear.
      There is a lot to this.
      It is not as necessary for the melody to be on top in the left hand as if is for the right hand.
      There are many chords that work for the right hand note if you can make them fit the right hand melody, which requires a lot of study.
      And, voice leading is a factor which helps to determine which inverse is best.
