🎹 Learn to play piano using my melody in the right hand video. The is a simple formula you can use that works for beginners to get you started. I usually want to play a song that it is on the album, but sometimes melody in the right hand can be very useful in certain situations. I’ve been teaching for almost 4 decades, and I started on UA-cam 18 years ago. I did so well that I started my website, webpianoteacher.com, and we’ve been going strong ever since. You will not find the accuracy, expertise, and care that I put into my lessons anywhere else on the internet. Period.
🔥 With so many free piano lessons on youtube, why do people continue to pay me thousands of dollars a week to transcribe and teach their requests? For one, you will not find more accurate arrangements of the songs I’m hired to teach anywhere on the web. Period. I have perfect pitch and was born with an ear for hearing and understanding any piece of music I listen to. I say this not to brag, but as a testimony of the gift God gave me and how He intends me to use it: to teach people how to play the music they love, EXACTLY the way they hear it on the album, in a way that is manageable and doable for the average music lover.
🔥 Piano Lessons Gone NUTS! Another video of MANY where Shawn answers the common everyday questions about music that everyone has. I've taught piano lessons for over 23 years, and played professionally for longer than that! No cold lifeless animated lessons here, or watered down lessons by someone who doesn't understand themselves what they are trying to teach you! I'm ready to teach and help you to reach your goal and dream of playing the piano successfully. Enjoy.

I've been hunting for someone who creates the best explanatory tutorial and shows theory matched with practice with other variations added. By gosh, I've looked at many and I'm very pleased to at last find your channel. You teach, show, explain, demonstrate, add to and orchestrate in a superb step-by-step logical way. Very well done. Although I have tutorials from myself learned past, I needed to get some structure and understanding of how songs are actually played regarding chord melody. I hear songs but couldn't fathom out how they were being created on the combination chords/melody etc. This lesson alone clarified what I needed to know. So thank you. I'm seeking to song creations but didn't fully know how it worked. Now I do!
Absolutely fantastic. I have wondered for so long about this. Thanks so much

Woah! Your voice is so freakin' amazing! You can sing that high, in mix, head and falsetto, and have total control over your voice. Also, sounds good to the ears, and that's what matters. I'm a guy too, and I can't freakin' sing high at all. I wanna sing high so bad, but nothing helps right now.
You, probably can, tell me how you sing so high. Can you? :D
Thanks for posting a video on this topic! At the most basic level (and explained in only 43 words): Play melodic notes at 1, 3, or 5 note intervals ABOVE (+1 octave) notes played with left hand pinky on down beats. Between down beats, play notes to connect melodic notes played on down beat to melodic note played on next down beat.
you are the best. your circle of 5ths is outstanding. you are the first teacher i've seen that can explain the complexity of scripted music easy enough to understand the concepts. thank you. people will find you and good will come your way. don't worry about the dutch kid, people will want real thing. youtube is advertising your biz. you're the best I've found in five years of surfing
You're an excellent teacher, Shawn! God bless you!
This song is easy Melody but your voice amazing .
Dude thank you!!! A lot of people aren’t well versed with visual representations of chords and melodies (I’m mainly a visual learner) and I’ve been looking. This video is a God send.
hey man, thanks to youtube to have recommended your videos to me. this one and the piano gone nuts are awesome videos. I was really really trying to figure it out as well. thanks man!
Great teaching methods. Thank you very much
Holy sh....!!! Not only i didnt know that you can sing, but to sing that good, woow man! You are full of surprises
I have been looking everywhere for this type of video. THANK YOU!!
Спасибо ! Thanks 🙏😻🇷🇺
brilliant thank you for making the circle of fifths so easy to understand after years of confusion
But how do you figure out the chords? How do you figure out for example that the G in the song needs an E-minor chord?
Exactly I was wondering the same thing!! its driving me crazy. I would had picked a C major chord for the bass there, because the G goes on top! I don't get why he picked the Em and then the F too. Can someone please advice
I finally get it! I hope this helps you as much as it helped me, but read it all and everything will make sense ;)
www.hearandplay.com/main/how-to-instantly-figure-out-chords-to-simple-melodies
it doesn't load :/ need this badly..!!
That's weird, I've just accessed the website, it took more time than often to open but it worked. Try it one more time on chrome or another browser. I wish I could help you more, but that website was the only one that helped me. You always have to remember to have the melody note on top and which chord is the one that will allow you do this without making your hand jump alot. You have to have in mind what is the shortest way to achieve that
Fuiape I'll try opening the page again then, maybe just had connection issues. thank you..!
I appreciate the lesson. Keep sharing . God bless :)
Basically, this guy was talking about chord inversions, the different ways to play certain chords. For example, if you see this chord C/E, that means you play the C chord with the E note in the bass.
Good lesson :). However, in the example it's fortunate that all the melody note exists in the corresponding chord. What about other songs that have non-chord melody notes (passing tones)? How do you put them on the right hand chord? Just combine them (thus pressing 4 keys (3 chord notes + 1 non-chord melody))? Please teach us. Thanks :D
wow! amazing, even your voice man!!!!
Thanks Shawn for posting piano lesson man. I would like to know how you got the notes in blk. at the bottom.C-Em-F-C-Dm-Am-G-C. would you describe how you got them please. Thx so much my friend.
Those are the chords , the green are the notes in chord and the red is notes in the melody .
(Notice on your left hand ,you say C chord but you play a "C to C an Octave" and the right hand you play the "C chord" with 1st or second inversion depending on the melody. But WOW, this video was my missing link in my music life, and something just trigger in my head, so I click like and subscribed and rang that bell too.
thanks!
wooow!! my friend, thank you so much for this lesson; finally Ihave meet somebody that hit the nail for me as far as this topic is all about. I been struglling for years trying to understand how to put chords to a melody. Now I now how to do it, thanks again. Jose
Great Lesson..!
Super explanation.Thanks.
Thank you so much. I learned so much from this lesson
tks for the useful lesso.. I am now starting the keys after 20 yeears of guitar player.. The mix of this knowlegde will bring good things.. and you also a funny guy,...
you have not said anything about how to apply a chord to a melody .
i have learned all the major/minor chords but im confused how to use specific chords for a song ( lets say how do i know , what chords do i have to apply , major or minor , when to use C major or E major etc)
i mean which ever key you press with your right hand , do you apply that chords ?
( lets say a part of a song starts or ends with E key , so i do have to apply E major chords ? )
im just confused how /when / where to apply specific chords
thanks
it depends on how the song is written, the chords are in singing book - usualy as guitair chords above the melody line

thanks Sir..... explanations are awesome....... 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hi there. Thanks for the lesson mate. One thing i'd like to know is how did you get to this chords from the melody ? You say the melody is on top, so for the first G, why is the chord an Em and not a G is the 2nd inversion ? I can find melodies, I know my chords and inversions but I always struggle to find my chords from the melody...
Thanks a lot for your help !! M.
I want to know what is the basic idea behind choosing the right chord for the melody and when do I play each chord with the melody notes?
I have a question! I produce hip hop, I have a dark gritty style... are there certain chords/scales that will give me a darker sound? Or is it more about the actual sound, rather than the notes?
Thank you so much for the explanation.
Thank you so much I think I ask you about the melody how to put melody with chord? My name is David Liles. If so thank you again would love to learn how to play. We go to a small church and we don’t have a piano player . Please say a prayer I can learn to play piano for God at church some day. Thanks 🙏🏻🙏🏻 9-14-24 ….11:11pm 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
That’s a wonderful pursuit! If you want to do a zoom call and I can help you learn how to do this from a hymnal. Email me at easypianolessons@yahoo.com.
Thank you so much, I am a beginner, It helps me a lot. I like the way you look at the camera.
I learned a lot from this video....thank You, sir.
I did enjoy it, many thanks !
You helped me a lot😭 This is what i've been looking for from the start
How did he determine which chords to use? For instance, how did he choose the E Minor chord to go with the G key in the melody?
This is MAGIC! !
Thank you.
you're welcome!
Great idea! Amazing! So talent!
Do some trap beat tutortials
How did you come up with the ‘Em and F chord
what kind of piano do you have? and thanks for posting this! it was helpful
Those of you who are saying the lesson is awesome, since u were once a noob too, could you pliz explain what we are wondering? Why Em chord for G note in the melody? Or is the answer for that only in the paid section?
I hope that this answer clarifies instead of confuses, but he only has three choices of vanilla triad chords that contains the G note, and will keep the song in key: C, Em, and G.
Any other melody note has only two or three choices as well, when you limit your choices to: 1)only major or minor triads 2)chord stays in key 3) chord contains the melody note.
The Key of C is easy because it contains only white notes. But take any other key, play its major scale, and then learn the major and minor (not diminished) chords that only use the notes of that scale. You'll quickly learn what the limits are and what chords match up with each note of the scale.
Musicians stray from these limits all the time, but that's where creativity and/or more advanced music theory comes in.
iwriteforyouonline When could you use the diminished, or the augmented chords ?
hi , I am a beginner piano player, can you tell me how to harmonized any given key by ear?
Shawn, with all due respect to your teaching method, you should explain to people that what your actually doing is called "chord inversions with melody notes on top of them" to make more sense. In this video, you haven't said a single word about inversions and this is misleading. You just explain it in an old traditional way called "Just Memorize the Shape and You'll Be Fine".
That is the reason why people are lost here. Don't get me wrong but I am truly amazed by the number of likes you got.
Great video but how do you figure when the chords should be Minors or Majors?
Odu Oba Ara check out the circle of 5ts ... according to the Scale you know are minors.... as the Am (that is the relative minor ) in the scale of C mayor.
do you have any lessons for sale or any books that can help in building chords and melody?

Thank you Mr. Cheek! This really helped me!
learning a lots from this lesson.
Does the method I describe below encapsulate and simplify the process (play the chord that carries the melodic note) outlined in your video?
METHOD: Find the basic chord to go with a melodic note played on the next down beat by choosing the root note for the chord at 1, 3, or 5 (+1 octave) note intervals BELOW the melodic note.
UUUUMU3U5
UU1UMU5UU
1U3UMUUUU
M=melodic note on next down beat
1=root note of basic chord
3=2nd note of the basic chord
5=3rd note of the basic chord
it's a good lesson but I have the same question that Oliver has how do you figure out the cords, please explane
beautiful voice shawn
How can i learn to play melody over chords? Thanks :)
Very nice 👍🏻
Dude you are simply awesome
How do you know which chords go with the base melody ?
This helps a bunch, thanks
I m not able to.fimd chords for a song for
my left hand. I m also not able to use my left hand freely. please send me formula for chords and left hand exercises.
Very helpful video.
Thank you so much!
holy smokes thanks a lot man !
u got an incredible high range sir !! 😁😁
How did you decide that the Em chord goes with the G note in the melody and F chord goes with the A and the Dm goes with F etc?
+Abeer Barram
This is good. But new people don't know why choose Em for G or choose G7 for the D. Notice I said G7 for the D because I do understand the melody is ending and V7 is going home to I.
Some choices are made because that is simply the way the original song is written. If you chose Gmaj for the first G notes, it may not sound like the original song. The song would sound reharmonized.
Also Gmaj is good for the G if you are creating a different song or as I said you intentions are to reharmonize old song. It has a lot to do with what you want to hear.
There is a lot to this.
It is not as necessary for the melody to be on top in the left hand as if is for the right hand.
There are many chords that work for the right hand note if you can make them fit the right hand melody, which requires a lot of study.
And, voice leading is a factor which helps to determine which inverse is best.
please be my teacher.
i love how you teach.
Awesome
I too am trying to figure out the chords to apply to a melody..Can someone please explain. Thanks
I wanted the singers bars and melody how to play bit on Poona and this is about the bars and melody on pianos I hope u get what u mean
Thank u sir,,, ur amazing...
Great!
life hasnt' allowed me to be here since late 2010.. LOL.. part my fault but started studies..
I really wanted to do this then vs now I feel it's just a bucket list thing.
It's those darn Sopranos again!!!
how do you find the melody
Say if I wanted to build it on my own and I only know the melody notes how do I build the rest of the chords and know which key is the root chord?
Good question, but I can't answer it adequately in a comment. Maybe I'll make another video. Thanks!
what about the left hand? can you teach that as well please
awesome video. thanks
This is good! i like it,
thank you!
Hey! Great Videos, Could you make a tutorial of Oblivion by Bastille??
I don''t know why but when he plays the twinkle2 little star melody, I thought it was happy birthday and I even sung it with the same tune...lols
I didn't understand what you are playing on you left hand? Are you playing melody or chords? A melody should be on right hand side but it seems ur playing chords on right side. I also didn't get the logic behind choosing the right chord with the note. What's the authentic method?
Really great lesson for me, but why are you in a hurry? Can't catch until I go through thrice .
Thanks a lot though
you should be a singer
thanks a lot man for this video
you bet!
Nice voice mate.
wauw nice info, really good!!

a video that lite the bulb in my head
And why do you put different chords on G note in melody? I mean it's Em in first occurence of G, then after A comes G again an the chord is C now. Why such a inconsequence?
Thanks so much, man. I've been pecking the melody with one finger and it sounded bland
lol me too.
Subscribed
Thanks!
Can you do the teaching more like the twinkle little star thats more easy to learn
nice voice
I cant get it. I cant see the correlation between the melody notes and WHY you picked the chords. Lost here.
chords inversions ?
What about it?
Inversions
Omg .. did you have a train to catch?
good tutorial but why you need to rush up? btw tnx sir :)
how about those singing lessons hhaha sound like someone from boyz 2 men
