I'm a Nigerian who's taken it upon himself to be self taught. But since I stumbled upon your video about embellishments, I fell in love with your teachings.
Trust me I've come across tons of piano videos but yours was the one I understood fully.
Thank you so much for your skillful teachings. I'm a super huge fan of you Warren. ❤

I stumbled on your chammel after trying severally to find videos to help me start learning the keyboard. And in days I was already playing as though i had learnt for up to a month. Even I am amazed! Still haven't seen any channel simplify and explain things like you do. It's like a journey on your channel - slowly but surely, taking small steps and mastering them before the giant steps. It's awesome.

Thanks for the tips! For me, I doodle out the melody on the right hand "by ear", and as I'm playing the melody, I find the root note "by looking" at what melodic note my right hand is about to play on the next down beat and play the root note with my left hand pinky at note intervals 1, 3 or 5 BELOW that melodic note. Then purely "by kinesthetic muscle memory", I hold me left hand in a fixed claw position to play the notes at note intervals 5, 8 and 10 ABOVE the root note.
Once I learned to do this, I was suddenly able to play songs by ear non stop and most surprisingly, play a song in any key without knowing the key I've started playing the song. Even better, I can now improvise new melodies and add left hand chords to the melody! Just hit any note on the right hand to spontaneously start the song melody and you let everything else fall in place.
I lay out the learning process in three main steps and in just 100 words:
    1. Play and end song in key of C to minimize use of black keys and make it easier see intervals between melodic and between root and melodic notes.
    2. Identify melodic note played on downbeats and immediately play with left pinky root notes at -1, -3 or -5 intervals (+1 octave) BELOW the melodic note. Use root-melody note interval 1 at end of song. When guessing, try note interval 5 before using 3.
    3. Play chords with left hand in fixed claw-like position to roll notes at 1-5-8-10 intervals ABOVE each root note. Add 7 and 9 to jazz it up.
Here’s a summary of the steps I used to learn how to play piano by ear in my 55-word poem titled “I Can Jive in 55!”
    To play song by ear
    end song on note C
    to make learning easy
    by avoiding black keys.
    To add chords to song
    play root BELOW melody
    on each down beat
    at intervals -1, -5, or -3.
    Now play each chord
    by rolling ABOVE root
    the notes 5, 8, 10
    then add notes to suit.

Hi Allen.Warren has opened up something special with 346 idea here for melody. Also Your note totally fascinates me as I struggle to recognise chord sequences by ear. This I can sense would be an easier way. I have a good recognition and quick recall of melody and I'm sensing what your trying to explain. It's asking a lot but could you or Warren perhaps do a video showing exactly how this can work.
      Q1.
Are you spanning the root notes with pinky and thumb and rolling index left finger to 10?
Thanks to both of you. This lesson is transformative for me
      Q2
Or have I not properly grasped your method

Hey Bro. Warren good lesson. I've been playing chords with the melody already, especially playing in church and I don't sing. But its something to keep in mind and really think about, so my playing sounds RICH, FULL and sounds professional. Get ready for that next gig.
Things have been rather tedious and very challenging lately. My persistence and a lot of praying is paying off.
Hey Bro. Warren be nice to meet you in person. And my church got one of those black and red Keyboards. My pastor let me play on it some.

This video is interesting for me because being a singer pianist, I basically use chords to accompany my voice, but there is alwas pieces or passages in a song that is instrumental. So now I understand how to find out the melody of the song and to begin to harmonize in thirds, fourths and sixths.
