This song is about holding grudges, the crown of barb wire is a self imposed punishment. Maybe for mistakes in life or hearth break, even the death of lost one or hatred towards somethig that you loved or caused you pain. That crown inflicts pain in his brain straights to his soul. He is the king of the decay and corrosion. King of nothing because rust is the final step before metal becomes dust. The rusty empire symbolizes his hold to very old grudges or fears or pains or love or hate that has become his place of comfort and he is the only one who controls it. The same rust also pierces his skin and cause him more torment. It follows the same track of Inamorada or Bleeding Me. Another take is that he is the king of metal and the grudge may well be his need to exceed and be relevant even as metal decays and become s forgotten at the same time he ages and becomes and old man. I guess that getting this feelings out there really helps because look at James from 2019 and later on 2021. Same person different guy. Healthy and cunning, again! The video exploits that pain and hatred towards the killer of the family, but with a twist because pure evil is stronger than hate. The dad entered prison to exact his revenge but by doing so entered the killer's territory and was outmatched and outnumbered he did not think things thru and got killed. Now in hell he comes back as the king of hate and avenges his family but also lost his soul. Its pretty fucked up but completely real.

Their fists helped turn a weak bald guy into a strong demonic skeleton! Go Metallica! That's a great message.
Its pretty fucked up but completely real.
any hint why metallica members are with the killer??
4:53 James Hetfield: FUCK! NOT AGAIN WITH THE PYROTECHNICS!
Lmao, his worst nightmare
05:29 RIFF INSANO!
Wasa
Apparently the penquin is a more deranged villain than anyone had previously thought. lol
COBW is slowly joining my list of greatest Metallica songs.
I'm already seeing the picture... WHY!?! JUST USE THE ONE FROM THE PREMIRE! THAT HAD THE BEST CGI I'VE SEEN!!!
actually true, that was the best music video on the album
Yeah that one was actually really good. Fit the song perfectly.
@@mewz52 how was it? I don't remember
@@pabloestebanquinteroavila3084 it was like a full 3d trippy animation, similar to a tool music video but with much higher quality (and less disturbing)
@@mewz52 Exactly, 3D fractals :)
Sounds simultaneously old and new 🔥🔥🔥
The most evilest video character I have ever seen. Now stuck in our minds for the eternity!
Nice work, animators team!
This is making history already.
Yes I woke up thinking about the sick bastard this morning. The story is crazy.
I hated this video at first. But this fuckin guy is stuck in my head.
If life existed on other planets, Metallica's music would be heard there too
Allright i am sick honest ,when hes at court and sobs the family, silently says " sorry about that" im talking chit through out the entire video having a fkn blast😚
My personal favorite of this album!
Mine too!
Mine too! I like that song sooo much
This song is my least favorite on the album but I'm giving it another chance. Maybe it will grow on me.
@@danielremm4278 I noticed that it's often the case with Metallica's last 3-4 albums.
Chasing Light is also great, In fact the whole album is TBH
I was so invested in the story that I thought the villain is gonna suffer a lot before dying. lol
best song so far, for me at least !!!!
I really love the fact that they featured Mr clean in the video, he made an awesome work.
I feel Re Re Re loadedgreat cord changes...Kick ass Tight bass tone...that's going to be a standard
This is the best song I've heard from the album thus far; sounds like a healthy mix of the Black Album and Load. Just a really cool mix of great riffs, vocals and lyrics.
I love this song, but this has to be the worst animated music video of all time
Agreed bro. One of the richest bands of all time comes out with this heaping pile of 💩 video. 😭😭😭
For real, incredible song but this video is disappointing, the one they showed in cinemas was way better
Too far gone is the worst animated video
It's embarrassingly bad. Like a terrible student film
Bruh chill
