I agree, and also feel like Room of Mirrors is a sequel to this one. In the making of Spit Out the Bone video, one can see that initially, the song sounded more "happy", not as menacing as in its final version. Unfortunately, in Room of Mirrors they did not manage to remove the "happiness" and make the song menacing the same way they did for Spit Out the Bone.
@Rayven Mayhem Bad production does not make a bad album. Production was messed up on AJFA, but that did not stop it from being a masterpiece. Only pussies need squeaky clean production on metal albums. I personally enjoyed the loud production on Death Magnetic, but I seem to be in the minority of people.
@@otielcraft If you look around, there is a Guitar Hero 3 rip of Death Magnetic that has way better production, without all the blown out audio issues.
@@comicsans1689 I can get behind some rugged production. And i agree, bad production doesn't mean a bad album. It's a weak album of their career, not one of their worst but not one of the best.
This is such a deep song, I see people talk about the riffs, the drums, the tuning the vocals and other stuff, while all of that is brilliant, the theme and message of the song is really something to ponder upon.
I just re-discovered this song last week and this was exactly my thought. Another beautiful example of excellent song writing with deep meaning and killer lyrics.
No joke, this is definitely one my top 5 Metallica songs now. James’ vocals are so strong and everybody in the band gets a chance to shine in this song. 👌🏻🤘🏼
The bass solo was just too short but so damn good. Kirk killed it, and of course James is still RIFF MASTER. It's just a damn good song from beginning to end.

This is how metal videos should be done, if at all. Low budget, fun and unique. Love the entire album's videos lol, really creative. Especially 'Here Comes Revenge'
I think early Maiden videos were fantastic, they're still good but back then they were playing live in the video with footage from films and such, great band
3:57 starts one of the best moments on the album and in whole Metallica catalog. they really came up with the perfect combination of heaviness and melody
metallica should play this set list in a super dvd mega concert: 1- blackened 2- fight fire with fire 3- the four horsemen 4- don't tread on me 5- am i savage 6- halo on fire 7- of wolf and man 8- the god that failed 9- dream no more 10- ORION 11- the thing that should not be 12- battery (w full intro) 13- dyers eve 14- damage inc. 15- and justice for all 16- from whom the bell tolls 17- motorbreath 18- fade to black 18- creeping death 20- whiplash 21- spit out the bone
This song is an absolute masterpiece and one of the best songs Metallica has ever written. Had this came out in the 80s I think it would definitely be one of their biggest songs and praised for its song writing as much as puppets and one and all the other great songs they have written.
Of the videos that were uploaded the same day, this song has more views than the rest, ironically more than the ones that sound more 'comercial' and are in mid-tempo. The audience has spoken! We want an album full of this kind of songs. A fast, dirty, furious thrash metal album!!!
TheFrayedEndsOfSanity 02 still blows my mind to this day. got my ticket for Glasgow in worldwired, fingers crossed until then they decide to treat us with this masterpiece live.
The best part for me is the transition to 'Long live machine'. That guttural chunking and moving into the key change and going full bore back in tempo just grabs me every time and throws me right back to 80s Metallica like nothing else. Awesome!! Love this song!
i remember it leaked like a week before the release date so i downloaded it and i thought it was fake but i was like oh shit because james started singing i was 15 and in the back of the car going home when i heard it.
Well, I heard it this very same year after listening to every single Metallica song in order, so, to me, this song was just yet another masterpiece. In fact, most of the songs I've heard when I was younger are not within my favourites. I know I heard Whiplash playing Tony Hawk, for example, and also a lot of other songs from Guitar Hero: Metallica, from which I only remembered Enter Sandman and Frantic. However, most of my favourites come from the last 3 albums rather than the old ones I may have heard when younger
I've been saying it since I first heard this one: If Hardwired had come out in the 80s, everybody would be talking about it today the same way they talk about Justice and Puppets.
@@totc6196 I just heard there's a new album coming out too. That got me real excited! Lots of big names with big upcoming album releases. One of the upsides of Covid killing live tours. Ozzy's getting another new album right after Ordinary Man, it's gonna have Tony Iommi! as well as Robert Trujillo who started out in Ozzy's band before joining Metallica.
@@UnchainedEruption no they wouldn't. Hardwired is overall garbage. Subpar lyrics, uninspired songwriting, weak guitar tone, and Hetfield's voice is gone.

I love how over the top this video is. It reminds me of how batshit insane metal videos were in the 1980's, the ones that could only be played at 1am on Headbangers Ball. Song kills too.
This isn't the best SINCE Master of Puppets or SINCE AJFA... This is some of their best work PERIOD... I will gladly put it right in with those classic tracks and hold it to the same standard... This is just flat out amazing. It's been years since I've had a new Metallica song get me in the feels.
Skufflz Yup that's how I feel, been jamming since BIRTH! 1985. Metallica is my world I know every note, can play every song from Metal Militia to Ronnie to Invisible Kid. And can honestly say "This IS some of their best work" right along with you!
When the Black album was released, Master of Puppets went from being great to being legendary. The same has happened now, 72 seasons has been released and Spit Out The Bone has surpassed legend status, it's on a level of it's own. When all is said and done, Spit Out the Bone will go down in history as the best ever METAL song of all time!

The way James sings "Spit out the bone" .... EPIC
Fantastic brutal song, best on the album
Yeah man. Same with "overthrown". Epic.
bassistguy I was actually thinking about kill em all man. But damn it sounds really really awesome.
For fuck's sake that '89 growl in the chorus is just fucking orgasmic
metallica sad butter traue
This is like a spiritual sequel to all nightmare long
I agree, and also feel like Room of Mirrors is a sequel to this one. In the making of Spit Out the Bone video, one can see that initially, the song sounded more "happy", not as menacing as in its final version. Unfortunately, in Room of Mirrors they did not manage to remove the "happiness" and make the song menacing the same way they did for Spit Out the Bone.
Best Metallica song since 1988
I agree! Very good song!
*1996
+Alejandro1908 grow up bitch
Bullshit!
Nah, Bleeding Me and Fixxxer have this beat
I wish they made a whole album like this, it sounds like 80s Metallica. It's my favorite song from the band since 1988.
Listen to Death Magnetic.
@@comicsans1689 the production in that album is trash
I'm one of those assholes who is very critical of modern Metallica, but this song is the shit. This is seriously some of their best work in 20 years.
i agree tbh
Agreed well said
hey groovy sound
Right?
Mark Arandjus I'm curious how if lars can play this live. if they have to change it to make it easier then this song will suck live.
Ryan Mabee I love James voice ❤️
The bass solo was just too short but so damn good. Kirk killed it, and of course James is still RIFF MASTER. It's just a damn good song from beginning to end.
Are u kidding? Hetfield’s voice is shot to pieces. It’s as obvious as hell
@@justinwakeling8669 Dude the guy is damn near 60. Alcohol does fuck up your vocal chords after awhile and they have played an enormous amount of concerts in 30 plus decades. Really??
@@justinwakeling8669 what a sad disrespectful sack of sh it you are. Let’s all watch rockstar Justin do better….
The "man overthrown" sounds like James' old voice creeping out.
Cant like that comment enough.
I knew there was a reason this was my favorite song on the album. Aside from the bad-ass fast guitar riffs.
My favorite from this album. I'd love to see it live.
The video is a piece of shit but it doesn't matter haha
Alex, this video rules man!
Lars cant play it live cause he's a pussy
This is the swan song of Metallica doing their classic sound.
Sad but true it seems!
This is how metal videos should be done, if at all. Low budget, fun and unique. Love the entire album's videos lol, really creative. Especially 'Here Comes Revenge'
AsorryProduction Machine Head - The Locust
I laughed a lot watching this video.
Sir, you have to watch "Blood Eagle Wings" video, from Anthrax.
don't assume that I haven't! I'm a fan
I think early Maiden videos were fantastic, they're still good but back then they were playing live in the video with footage from films and such, great band
metallica is back
they've never left
Marco Couto xD
Marco Couto When they released St.Anger they left
METALLICA is back
really .-.
3:57 starts one of the best moments on the album and in whole Metallica catalog. they really came up with the perfect combination of heaviness and melody
yeah, it's a good point. might be the best moment on the album vocal-wise. great melody and I love the echoing of lines
That's essentially power metal...
an Iron Maiden moment, you may say.
komputerLuek to me the best moment on the album vocal-wise is the first few lines of the first verse in Murder One.
I creamed my pants by the end of it
The perfect balance between old to new metallica
3:57 to 4:42 is so damn good I'm impressed with metallica
Right??? I can't get enough of it!
Easily the best part of the song for sure!
This remains me dyers eve doble pedal
Iceman so heavy yet extremely melodic and catchy. amazing stuff
That part is so epic!! I haven't felt this since DAMN!
Only Metallica can give you, in one song, enough riifs for any other band to create 10 songs with. This is the real deal!!!
Jon Daggett Becasue this is the only song in the album with more than two riffs
Alessandro Cappa are we listening to the same album?
this guy
Jon Daggett disagree.. Actually what you describe is Iron Maiden.
metallica should play this set list in a super dvd mega concert:
1- blackened
2- fight fire with fire
3- the four horsemen
4- don't tread on me
5- am i savage
6- halo on fire
7- of wolf and man
8- the god that failed
9- dream no more
10- ORION
11- the thing that should not be
12- battery (w full intro)
13- dyers eve
14- damage inc.
15- and justice for all
16- from whom the bell tolls
17- motorbreath
18- fade to black
18- creeping death
20- whiplash
21- spit out the bone
Put 'Trapped Under Ice' and 'Hit the Lights' on there and you'd have a good set list. Not a good one without them though.
are you saying you only like those 2 songs? im confused
jeff m
No, I'm saying is that those are two of Metallica's best and most epic ones. They should be on any set list.
but its not good if they arent so the rest of the songs dont matter to you, right?
whatever, put those in the setlist but doesnt remove anyone, and you know, you have to find a good place between songs to mixing perfectly
This is without any doubt one of their best songs ever. It's just amazing
Get well soon James we need more music like this!.
Just make sure that Kirk loses his phone again or else he will ruin the new songs
This song is an absolute masterpiece and one of the best songs Metallica has ever written. Had this came out in the 80s I think it would definitely be one of their biggest songs and praised for its song writing as much as puppets and one and all the other great songs they have written.
Stop it.
This.
no. just no. its good, its thrash but the best? i dont think so..
Yep. This is correct. One of their best.
You are correct. But some people are dumb and you just can’t please them
Never stoped listening to this song ever since it’s release. When you think Metallica has done it all, they come up with a masterpiece like this.
Best Metallica song of 21 century.
This is Number. 2. I would say Room of Mirrors of the new album is the best!

Of the videos that were uploaded the same day, this song has more views than the rest, ironically more than the ones that sound more 'comercial' and are in mid-tempo. The audience has spoken! We want an album full of this kind of songs. A fast, dirty, furious thrash metal album!!!
RafireRocksNRules The video is awesome too.
RafireRocksNRules lol sorry buddy Metallica only writes music for themselves.
Well, I would get bored of it so fast if it's fully Thrash. but yeah, there should be more Thrash, but with some Mid-Tempo complex songs
Who cares about shitty metalheads, we want metallica, and metallica fortunately means also hard rock.
only full thrash metal album is kill em all and well that's like.. 35 years ago , forget about it.
One of the best album closers hands down - right up there with Dyer’s Eve and Damage Inc!
Honestly, this is the best James has sounded since the black album. He goes all out in this song.

what about The Judas Kiss?
Jon Elder Well they're essentially the same chords so yeah, I guess Judas Kiss was pretty kool as well

Shame that Lars can't do that Live...
The best part for me is the transition to 'Long live machine'. That guttural chunking and moving into the key change and going full bore back in tempo just grabs me every time and throws me right back to 80s Metallica like nothing else. Awesome!! Love this song!
Definitely! That part got to me too.
3:56 is the best part in the ENTIRE song.
correct
Nah spit out the bone is the best part
The first four albums were my favorites. Note the use of "were" here. This is like all of them combined and pushed up to 11 in one track.
Yea....
1:34 is the best part
Do you remember hearing this for the first time? Man, i got goosebumps for all my body, and still every time that i heard this masterpiece.
i remember it leaked like a week before the release date so i downloaded it and i thought it was fake but i was like oh shit because james started singing i was 15 and in the back of the car going home when i heard it.

How can anyone say metallica lost it after this song its pure thrash genius. Could be right on justice.
I've been saying it since I first heard this one: If Hardwired had come out in the 80s, everybody would be talking about it today the same way they talk about Justice and Puppets.
@@UnchainedEruption totally agree I heard the next album might be with Fleming Rasmussen if so man we might get that old sound or close to it.

If you think about it, the lyrics are very analogous to Master Of Puppets. (subjugation, control by a certain "Master" etc..)
I thought it was: Remove your heart, it's only good for beating

plenty of insane riffs in those 25 years waiting

Jared Vazquez he's a time traveller who got stuck in the year of 1991
Mike Boyd imagine if this was on and justice for all
If this album had 12 songs like Spit out the bone, it would have been a Heavy Metal Masterpiece after And Justice for All.
You mean, death magnetic?
I think the same
I 2nd that
Spit, Hardwired and Atlas are all masterpieces in my opinion and I personally rate this album right up there with Kill Em All and Ride The Lightning. Justice is in my second tear along with the Black Album. But ya, this is the best song on the album.
If it had 12 songs that sounded just like this, it would be fucking boring. Metallica's records are usually great BECAUSE they have a rich diversity of sound. Not just the same thing for 12 tracks.
