I only feature products I like, or want to try. The products I use in these videos are either purchased by me or sent to me by make-up companies to use in my professional capacity as a make-up artist for fashion and celebrity photo shoots, red carpet etc. I am also sent products by many of the top magazines to judge for awards.

She's jaw-droppingly gorgeous with the French overload look
In my opinion, she even rocked the uni/mono brow
I was like, "Really? How the hell did she manage to make a unibrow look that great?"
Meanwhile if I let my unibrow grow in I just look gross lmao.
@Ry V
VERY Frida Kahlo
Fucking same
😊 i agree... very, very pretty...
Her voice is so relaxing..Like.. she could read me a horror novel and I wouldn't be terrified.
glad I'm not the only one
yaaasss
Yesh
She would have so many subscribers if she started a ASMR channel 😘😀😻. If you dont know what ASMR is than look it up or watch some videos, you might end up liking it.
Irma-C ☆ i agree
If I had your accent and vocabulary, I'd never shut up.
What accent
@@snowwy_hd British accent I think
British duh
I’m almost thirteen and I have her vocabulary, but just not her lovely accent. :(
@@snowwy_hd isn't it called the RP English
The Victorian part reminded me of something my mother in law told me she used to do. My mother-in-law was born 1926, so her parents were literally ‘Victorian ‘. As a teen, she was never permitted to wear makeup, so when she went out to the dance halls, she would take her prayer book with her. In the ladies room she would wet the RED leather cover of the book and rub the stain from it from her fingers, onto her lips!! 💋. I love the irony... prayer book = lipstick 💄!
Maria Lovell I love this story
I was a teen in the 80s/early 90s. Heavy, crazy makeup (as she wore here). But i was allowed only mascara and lip gloss until I was a sophomore. By then, I was so use to my minimalist look, I didn't part with it. And I still wear very little makeup today. Even when I do vintage fashion, I wear the minimal amount necessary to achieve my look ;)
@@maissak1039 0
Skinny Bones Jones - Alas no... my mother-in-law is still able to speak (!) . A LOT! 😬
So your mother in law is 93 then, wow, obviously the red dyes didn’t do her health too much harm then! I wish her well living to such a good age!
My dad teaches a European History class at an American high school and he shows this to his class every year!
: ) X
Ap Euro?
No, but Greece and Rome certainly spent a lot of time colonizing and conquering Egypt. That makes it included in European history.
You have separated (American and European) History classes?
@@ducklingscap897 Yes at least in ny we have global history and us history
Whoa I cant believe this is on a MILLION views in less than a week!! I had to do a double take! : D Xx
Congrats
Your video was great ✨ I love your accent, btw
+Alex Senpai oh thanks! X
+Lex cakes Thank you x
+Lisa Eldridge that's because it's almost Halloween and we are going to shamelessly copy!!! hahaha
Fun fact about the Greek uni-brow trend! It was so popular they even used false eyebrows made from animal hairs.
In the 18th century, they would use mouse fur!
Sarah Algelius lol I would’ve been so liked back then now I have to get my eyebrows done to be acceptable 😂😂
A time when I would've been accepted gladly! But nowdays I of course have to have perfect eyebrows to be remotely acceptable :/
Sarah Algelius ew
Sarah Algelius not really:) as a Greek woman I don’t agree :)
The effort it took to film this video deserves 2 thumbs up
How can you pull off any look??? :O even those big eyebrows looked good on you! What is this magic? :D
I think it helps she's super confident no matter how she looks
Klara Rotenmayer really good lighting makes a huge difference
Genetics. Genetics are magic in a way.
Klara Rotenmayer she's also a makeup expert. I'm sure she practices on a daily basis
Yeah i agree with good lighting. Theres also an artful trained eye so that she does everything else to compliment and even the brow is calculated in way not to clash with her features.
And as far as genetics yes a very symmetrical face.
Thats my take ☺👍
So much better than the Buzzfeed videos of the same nature! So educational and awesome. Thanks Lisa!
I was thinking that! I love the buzzfeed videos like this but this was so much more professional and informative! Loved it
This video (and the rest) distinguishes Lisa from any other makeup gurus……
I think the difference with Lisa is she's very mature and knowledgable and genuinely interested and passionate about makeup. X
+grissopia agree, you can feel that passion through every delicate tutoriol. It's always a pleasure to see that people do research for genuine love
+Emma Wang Its because she is an actual MUA and not just someone that started on IG or youtube.. nothing wrong with those people but you can def tell the difference.
+Emma Wang she-s the only one who actually knows what she-s talking about!. her dedication and commitment to her profession is admirable!
Because she's an actual makeup artist with clients, not someone who sits in their room all day taking selfies and using 10 different filters
This never gets old. My daughter even asks to see the video with the lady with really pink cheeks! She loves it!
Haha how lovely! X
I love that look the most as well
Aww that’s adorable
I'm in love with the 1920's flapper look
me too lets bring the era back
Me too! 😉💞
Me too! Completely obsessed. I'd love Lisa to do a tutorial on this look.
+Michaela Hurst same!!
that's what my eyes always look like when I try to do smoky eyes, lol
Classic
Woman wearing no makeup, no foundation.
Man: You look tired, are you sick?
People are so used to seeing women slap their faces with multiple layers of foundation.many look tired or different without it. So they notice when you don't wear makeup if you wear it often
You said it, Sam!
+Lo Lo so true
Woman: wearing makeup
Man: your wearing too much makeup! I like you better naturally
Micky Mus I only wear little bit so a lot of times people ask "are you really wearing makeup?" So that way when I don't wear makeup there's not much difference.
I have little interest in makeup, so listening to someone talking about it is usually boring to me. But your style, your vocabulary, your accent, You in general are so impressive and vibrant I have just watched this video four times in a row. Thank you for the experience :)
Very happy to hear you liked it so much, thanks!

On seeing the release of your book I assumed it was another make up manual of sorts. After watching this fantastic video and finding out it includes such a detailed history of make up I am ordering it today and can't wait to read it! X
Yes its a makeup history book.. thanks for ordering, I think you will love it! X
+BansheeVanRaven a simple google search would help you out.
BansheeVanRaven www.beautyblitz.com/history-eyebrows
+BansheeVanRaven
I googled it and found the New York Times produced an article on 2001/05/13 called Mirror Mirror. This described the Greek unibrow also :-)
+BansheeVanRaven Also mentioned on worldexpogreece website under Beauty in Ancient Greece. I could go on but I have a fantastic new book to read. Lisa Eldridge your book is truly beautiful xx
This was so stunning and so incredibly well-done! Bravo!! Since it's near Halloween maybe do a few of these historical looks as a tutorial on your channel? I'm completely in love with the Grecian and French look :)
yes! this is a great idea
+19Yonkers Yes! And I would definitely dress as a flapper girl if I could reproduce that look! Tutorials for ALL looks!!!
+19Yonkers your face would look lovely in the French way. very pale skin, with flushed pink cheeks! please do your best to recreate it!!!
L'Aurora Borealis that's so sweet of you to say!! I've never made a video before but I've always wanted to. Thanks for the motivation and your kind words :)
19Yonkers please, please do! and somehow find me so i can see it!
This is one of the most amazing videos on youtube I ever saw!!! Fantastic! You are so talented and beautiful. That video must have been work and fun to make. Amazing makeup and amazing costumes!
I can't wait to hold your book in my hands. Unfortunately there is a delay in the delivery, but now I am even more excited.
+cutestephie1313 Thank you ! Yes... the book is already sold out on Amazon here but more copies are being printed as we speak! I hope you dont have to wait too long X
Lisa Eldridge Wow! Sold out! That is so amazing, congratulations Lisa!! You deserve it. And thank you for the information.
+Lisa Eldridge Can you do 20th & 21st century please. I think it would be interesting to see how you would interpret makeup form 70's etc. And I think it would be fascinating if you illustrated some of the trends up to know, since you're makeup artist you would know what clients ask for. I think the 2000's was light and now it's full on...sort of in between atm with soft glam. I love you're video and this has to be the best yet!!! You deserve all the praise :)
Egyptian was the best. No genderroles, experimenting and being different. :3
Lazy Lauren No genderroles? Cleopatra wasn't allowed to rule because she was a woman.
Die wahre WeinerGmbh but she still ruled
Khadiza Ahmed Queen Elisabeth the first ruled too.
And it was easier for here to become a ruler by the way.
Die wahre WeinerGmbh besides this was the foreign ruled later times. she was greek. and we know how greeks viewed women
Of course there were gender roles, this is ancient Egypt we are talking about. Even Cleopatra had to wear the traditional ceremonial fake beard when acting as Pharaoh, symbolically taking on the role of a man.
BREAK THE INTERNET, Lisa Eldridge! ;D
+Kaisersluver haha : D X
Interesting, but with due respect, somewhat ruined by the wash-out lighting CGI-style lighting that virtually eliminates any lines, wrinkles or "flaws" on your face. Would be nice if you did a truly naturally lit video with no tricks.
+DDumbrille Its supposed to be a fun, educational video. I doubt she was thinking of "hiding her wrinkles". Is that really all you took away from the video?
Amanda Tooke No certainly not -- it was very educational. But overall, I think the lighting tricks, etc., that I mentioned, sends a subtle message (i.e. her skin is so flawless!) that some might think they can never live up to, because they don't realize the tricks that are involved.
+DDumbrille I never had that thought cross my mind while watching this video...? I mean I wished I could see some of the Egyptian and Flapper Era makeup more closely in detail, but I didn't think "damn, I can't see her usual wrinkles and imperfections with all these effects - she must have perfect skin!"
besides when she shows her no makeup face, her imperfections are clearly visible o_o
us it just me or from a certain area does she look a lot like Natalie Portman??
is
the lips I guess
I think its the Beauty Mark... Lol its like its in the same exact spot
+Chesie 3636 yeah!!
She's look like a mix between natalie portman and kate winslet
This is fantastic!!!! Possibly my favourite video ever!!!
I agree!! Good job👌🏻
+Basja Basja yess
I have watched this video at least 20 times.. I watch it every week it seems! I love the looks and it is so informative.
So happy to hear you like it so much! Thanks for watching X
I'm a guy but I'm fascinated with makeup and the history of makeup in women's fashion. I know men also used makeup throughout history, but sadly it's never been as widely accepted as with women. You gals get to look back on so many trends!
+TaBackpulver Woah chill
+TaBackpulver dude what the hell was that for? his comment was really nice
Sam Saad Lmao, it's cool I just ignore trolls like that, the only "attention seeking" is from him.
You should feel lucky, in a way. Men aren't under the pressure to look certain way and hide their flaws, get told you need make up because otherwise you're ugly. Make up where it can be and is a form of art and fascinating, it's incredibly oppressive and harmful to women and little girls, just know that.
If you want to wear make up, then that's up to you. There's plenty of men in media who do use make up, though just touch ups rather than a lot of colors, but still. You need to change it if you'd like.
LadyDynamitez Yeah I understand it's both a good and bad thing. It's the same way for guys but in the opposite direction: Man without makeup = manly, accepted, attractive. Man _with_ makeup = unmanly, wrong, shameful, etc. Society and gender norms have ruined everyone's self esteem one way or another and I wish I could change it.
i love this woman....she needs a makeup line
YES!
+Christelle Kapri
I would trust a product to be brilliant just by seeing her name on it!
+Christelle Kapri Agreed! I would 100% trust the effectiveness of products with her name on them, and also that they would be good and healthy for my skin.
I believe she designed some of the Boots 17 products. Either that or No.7 - One of the two, I can't remember exactly!
+Christelle Kapri She is the director at Lancome
Your passion for makeup is astounding ansd inspiring. Very informative and educational! Well done Lisa 💋
+Tyllegirl Very well said (:
I love how she dresses up for the makeup she put on! its awesome!
Love this! And this may sound strange, but I love the way you talk, could listen to you for hours! In fact, sometimes when I can't sleep, I turn on some of your videos and the sound of your voice gently puts me to sleep, it's like a lullaby, so soothing and relaxing! :)
I do the exact same thing! I watch her videos when I'm having a panic attack as well and they help calm me down!
+little55pig Haha me too - I especially find myself going back to her extra calm, chatty videos, like the one about post-breakup makeup
+little55pig Try googling "ASMR"... It might help you. :-)
Lol when I couldn't sleep I watch her video it helps me fall asleep
+little55pig I too listen to Lisa when I can't sleep, not only do her videos create a relaxing energy, but my makeup skills improve every time I wake up! It's like studying for a test right before you go to sleep:-) Love this video Lisa, I cannot wait to read your book:-):-)
the mole on the left cheek just completes all the looks
Ikr!
See Xiaoling Especially the flapper look~
I sorta love the French polish aesthetic !!
I will regret this me too!
excellent video, but i noticed that it focused solely on the history of makeup in the west. it's probably not your niche since you yourself are not of asian descent, but i would love to see a "history of makeup" for looks originating from the east! or is there one already that i should check out? :) love your videos as always
+Simone Yu Thats all in the book - this is just a very short teaser video of the book. I didnt do any of that history in this video - because its just my face (as you can see!). Im sure you s=will love reading about Asia in my book X
Cut Video has a bunch of videos called '100 years of beauty' and there are some from all around the world!
+Lisa Eldridge oooo i cant wait to check it out! youre the best
+ellabooxo thank you!!
If history was like that... i would study
My favourite comment of all.
It should be like that. Your teachers must’ve been bad.
You’d probably like Art History.
Fashion History is a whole genre! If you're lucky, your school might have a class!
History is fun, it’s just that the curriculum for it is dog shite. They don’t even teach history GCSE any further back than the 1940’s to 90’s anymore. And people have their own stupid misconceptions of history as being straight laced and vapid.
What about China? They've been wearing makeup since 3,000 BC
She actually mentions the history of makeup from all over the world (some really interesting bits about makeup in China, specifically) in her book Face Paint - The Story of Makeup, you should definitely give it a read, it's very interesting and informative/educational :)
Ooh thank you for the recommendation! I will definitely check out her book.
Oh and Lajia there are actually two brothers on UA-cam called double Chen that make a bunch of videos on Chinese history. There's one specifically about makeup through the dynasties, you should check it out.
I think maybe people will be offended if she wears Asian history, like yea she could get a model, but she said it was just for fun so ringing up a model to and stuff like might be too much, but her book talks about a makeup from ALL over the world.
Chelsea Keniston well I guess history of makeup is a too large topic to cover in just one short video, she probably had to focus on some direction. Chinese makeup is definitely not the only one missing (what about sub-saharan african makeup?), but it's ok and the video is still great and informative.
Fun Fact: In 14th/15th century Europe, an extremely popular trend for women was to pluck or shave the hairline back almost to the top of the head. Why? Beauty standards be crazy.
Also, I think it would be fair to say that the medieval link between makeup and deception exists to this day. As someone else in the comments said, no makeup = "Are you sick? You look terrible!" But light makeup = "no makeup," and heavy makeup = "Ugh, I don't like girls who wear too much makeup!" Dudes, you gotta make up (haha) your damn minds. (Or stop judging women on their appearance.)
I’ve heard the hairline thing has to do with copying Queen Elizabeth I, because she had such a high forehead and she was a standard for beauty.
I agree. Maybe not to the same degree as back then, but the link between makeup and deception does still exist.
They would shave the hairline because, bigger(longer) the forhead the smarter(wiser) women is.
This video actually woke my interest for your book. I might buy it.
Do! i think you will love it (if you like this video) ... let me know how you get on X
Same here - I'm making it #1 on my Christmas list.
Best video I've seen in a long while really love & the most interesting is the venetian era really informative
Agree, Lisa totally rocks the Venetian look!
Somehow it reminded me of Effie Trinket from the hunger games! Haha I love her
+dina chabuk Thanks so much, thrilled you like it X
Well, only our Lisa can rock a monobrow 😅😍💋 #fangirling
lol no
*****
plenty of girls pull off unibrows
+Jess Taylor "unibrows are hard to pull off and I think your skin looked really good at the same time! This video was so interesting, thank you for making it!" Was that wording careful enough for you, Jesus.
+Jess Taylor lol i have one yet i never do em and yet I'm still the prettiest girl in class😂 just saying. not trynna boast or anythin 😏
+The Big Fat Orangutan Lool but you're boasting! Did you get voted the prettiest in class or did a guy convince you of it? 😂
i thought the flappers, vamps and silent movies queens makeup looked so fucking cool
Flappers and silent movies are the best. Love this period.
Not to be a party pooper, but average ladies in the 1920s were not wearing makeup like that. It wasn't accepted as the norm.
Loved this but it really should have been titled "Makeup Moments in Western History" rather than just "History". I was expecting something a little more global.
+HelloCitySkies She covers them in her book.
That's all good and fine but my criticism was clearly about her video, not her book. lol.
HelloCitySkies Then you would just be complaining about "cultural appropriation"
or "black face"
+MalenkyGoblin Alright. Clearly you're just looking for something to be mad about. Moisturize and drink plenty of water my friend. Happy New Year.
HelloCitySkies Same could be said for you.
So no one is gonna talk about her beautiful eyes?
I really loved the video but it was definitely eurocentric... Would've loved to see makeup from Japan, China, India etc...
+Mudassar Ahmad She covers Asia in her book and women like Anna May Wong and Meena Kumari
+Elizabeth Hess not if she did it respectfully
***** hmm yeah that's actually a real concern HalseyPlease do you know how lisa might be able to draw the line between respectfully showcasing asian makeup and disrespectfully doing it?
+eizisqueezy You're the reason Donald Trump will be president of the United States. People are sick of this PC horse shit and bending over backwards to not offend the criminals, rapists, and terrorists.
+eizisqueezy That would be way too complicated
The Venetian look looks like the queen of hearts from Alice in Wonderland. Great vid btw
yes..
It explains some of the inspiration for the Queen of hearts. Mix the 16th century style with the red Queen’s violence and you get Alice in Wonderland’s Queen of Hearts. ♥️♥️
"Early Christian writers created a powerful association between makeup and deception..." Sounds familiar lmao.
When the makeup is being aplied you do not want to swipe with sponge you want to tap into skin, and when makeup is being removed you want to use natural resources for a good complection
+Alannah Beck Hahaha, how is this a reply to what Jademarissa said?
You are both right, nonetheless.
5:54 you did ALL THAT just to say "from decade to decade".. haha that is so amazing! beautiful video!!!

I’m Brazilian and learn the little I know of English language by my self. I want to thank you to be so sweet and speak in a acceptable speed, enough for me understand almost 100% of the content in this video. Congratulations 😍 i love it (and I have to tell how much I love British accent 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻)
Hello! You can change the video speed on UA-cam! To make it slower. Have a nice day!
Google Translate para Português: Olá! Você pode alterar a velocidade do vídeo no UA-cam! Para tornar mais lento. Tenha um bom dia!
The majority of this was Western history tho. Asia's use of make-up is also quite interesting. Just a suggestion if you plan to expand this video :)
I agree. Let's move to other continents beside just Europe. Tho, Europe is my favorite. :3
This video is just a short trailer of whats in my book 'Face Paint', there is actually a lot of Asian history in the book ....and yes I agree, it is super interesting! X
Paula Roussel yeah honey that's why the comment says 'the majority'
Love this! How much effort it would have taken!
I agree. She is amazing
The Venise one kinda look like Effie in Hunger Games
Actually Venice at that time probably was one of the sources for Effie. Over the top crazy theatrical fashion was de riguer at that time. Also, out of control, over extravagant, and at times highly amoral upper class hierarchy.
Tina Flowers YES ! I WAS THINKING ABOUT IT
JadeYueRyu1 de rigueur * 🙂
Lisa, is there any way you could show a tutorial on achieving the modern "Gothic" look? I'm always using this look myself, and I didn't know if maybe you had some tips on working with pale or white foundation and slightly cooler contours with this type of base, yet still getting that flawless, non-cartoony sort of effect? It would be much appreciated!
+Sister Lucifer I would LOVE to see Lisa's take on a modern Gothic or punk look.
+Tracy Davies me too!
+Sister Lucifer that would be super interesting! I don't wear that type of makeup but I certainly think I could learn from it - even if not it'd be cool to watch :)
Maybe you were the inspiration of her new video
That would be cool.
the egyptians had style
ikr
yup 👏
They were bad ass lol
+Shinigami Bella shut up; how dare u?
what?
I think it's funny that even though in society makeup was often seen as vulgar women still did little tricks to embrace their love of makeup. :)
I only know who Madame Pompadour is because of Doctor Who.
samee omg
me too
Are you serious?
well, they are serious.
Same here
This was just fascinating for me! I love listening to you speak and you sound so knowledgeable!! So cool to actually hear the background on makeup too! P.S. I'm very jealous of your wings towards the end of the video! 😜
Thank you, so happy you loved the video X
So interesting! I can't imagine what it must have been like to live in those eras, to be in the rich, upper-class, attending parties in France, how exciting!
+Fresh_Water If you didn't die of mercury poisoning. Or Syphilis. Or childbirth.
+BooRadleyTube Barring those unfortunate things, the whole experience would be something entirely different
+Fresh_Water Parties YES. The not showering and lice thing though, NO WAY.
+Fresh_Water from what I've read the French aristocracy's parties would have lost their allure pretty quickly. You had to wear clothes so lavish you actually bankrupted yourself to pay for them, and when you went to court you HAD to attend things whether you felt OK or not, and you had to stand up all night unless the King liked you enough to let you sit down. So you'd be standing up all night in clothes that weighed more than you did, in heels, on a stone floor, in a draught, desperately wishing the King would go to bed so you could, too. Plus I've been to Versailles and the kitchens were a long way from the rest of the palace, so if you were at one of the King's soirees and you wanted some food, by the time it got to you it would be cold. And apparently women of the court would sometimes put a chamber pot under their skirts so they could pee standing up in the room because you literally could not leave without permission. No fun!
+theoriginalsuzycat That chamber pot thing certainly shatters any remaining allusions we may have had. I like indoor plumbing too much to go back in time.
simply wow! im thinking of doing my dissertation for third year at university on how makeup was portrayed throughout history. I havent got the details figured out yet but if anyone can give me some little tips its all welcome. Great video, very inspirational.
+Mya Gansukh You will find a lot of info from all periods in my book - will hopefully help!Good luck x
+Lisa Eldridge Lisa, please do a series of tutorials covering these looks. It was AMAZING! Thank you!!!!!!
+Lisa Eldridge Do you have a reference section at the back of the book?x
+Adriana Kohkemper Agreed! Would look really interesting in costume parties especially the soot eyes/silent movies
+Mya Gansukh that sounds like such an interesting subject for a dissertation. DO IT! I'm sure that makeup just like all things having to do with appearance is so related to socioeconomic class and gender issues.
You are so funny Lisa, love you since I started subscribed to you years ago.
+Iskandar Zulkarnaen thanks : ) X
Lisa Eldridge i love you so much your so awesome
I loved this! Makeup almost seemed to equal power for women. when they were very powerful they had more makeup and vise verse. very intriguing topic. best wishes! 😊
Yep thats pretty much where I ended up when researching my book. Check out my book I think you will love it if you found this video interesting X
Lisa Eldridge, plan on doing so, thank you!😊
Maureen Seghieri indeed I loce make up
For some reason I think you looked really pretty with the unibrow ahaha
I agree!
Me too!
oh My God, this video is so good I can't even...
PLEASE do a separate tutorial for each??
+Rivili Im working my way through them... slowly, have done about 4-5 so far (many left to do haha! ) X
+Lisa Eldridge I want to see a tutorial for the 1920's silent movie look!! I'm obsessed with that era and I've seen so many tutorials on 20's makeup but none of them look as authentic as what you did here!
+Lisa Eldridge Buying your book. Absolutely fascinating stuff. Thanks for taking a historical tack on the book.
+Lisa Eldridge I don't know what makes me happier, that more awesome videos are coming, or that Lisa replied my comment #ontopoftheworld
This video looked like it would have been a lot of fun to create. I Iove how historically accurate all these looks were, thanks for another great video :)
Am i the only one that actually starts liking unibrows on women? I do think they can look really original and natural on someone's (not everyone's) face. The way you did it, i loved it!
i think unibrows look like caterpillars
I think that they can be stunning
Omg me too! I really started to think that I was the only one lol
I think most people can rock a unibrow you just need to place and trim it as you would usually do
+NERDY NERD pluck* place lol wtf
it would look cool but only if they took care of it and not let it be messy
Lisa's such a queen. After following so many beauty 'gurus' and have the same fall makeup tutorials come one after another, this is sooooo refreshing.
Me: "I'm not immature "
Lisa: " An endless stream of balls"
Me: *dies laughing*
I love how 1920s flapper girls went back to Egyptian looking makeup.
OK. The unibrow!!!!! I laughed so hard!!!! LOL!
I know right, I laughed way too hard at that. Oddly though, Lisa Eldridge can pull it off XD
+FemmePistolera she reminded so much of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, especially with that braid on her head. lol
garciamona9 lol very true!!!
I thought she still looked good haha
Chantal Bray She did. But funny!
french polish was pretty, you looked like a porcelain doll ^_^
I was so indulged in this video that I wished it never ends..
oh & Heil the modern age !
so basically they've been haters since the beginning of time but this is a good video
Someone was trying to control women's bodies since the beginning of time yep
Is that weird that i want to be a make up artist if im a guy? :)
+Dawid Nozewski No not at all there are lots of fantastic male makeup artists - Francois Nars, Peter Phillips and Serge Lutens , to name just 3! X
You dont even know how few words from you can kick my ass to do what I want to do :) I live in Poland and being a male makeup artist can be weird there but i think im going to try. Im not going to think about people who have problems with that:) thank you
+Dawid Nozewski
I think that you won't have problems, I mean there are people who will think it's totally WTF, but if you don't want to work in something totally mainstream like wedding + prom makeup, then it does not matter, because they make approximately 0% of clients.
men definitely have a place in makeup history like max factor and eugene rimmel. makeup artists have never been exclusively female, unlike other jobs like nursing. I'm not 100 sure, but I think most of early Hollywood makeup artists were men. the first academy award for makeup was to a man. if these men did it there's no reason why you should feel weird about it.
No!
since it'll be the 20s again in a few years I Petition a vote to bring back twenties flapper style and swing dancing, who's with me?
Yesss
actually it will probably be more like the 30s & 40s again - Europe didn't learn their lesson
Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I'd love to see Asian makeup history! 😀😀
I'm still in Flapper makeup😊
Lupus Devil Dei me too
Is it just me or does the unibrow actually look pretty?
yes! i think that too
The amount of effort and information you put into this video is beyond me. Every video of yours reminds me why I subscribed in the first place. You're a true makeup artist
Your accent and the way you speak is just fabulous!
Brilliant! I smiled all the way through this video!
I love to hear that ! X
that went from alice in wonderland's red queen to white queen!
I didn't want this to end!! For a makeup lover, this was a real treat, and such a thrill! LOVED seeing all the styles of makeup and the stories behind them. This may be one of my favourite videos from you, Lisa! Honestly, you spoil us! :)
I don't know how I missed this when it first came out, but I finally caught it today and LOVED it! Thank you so much for putting this together, Lisa!
+Funky's Mama happy you found it! X
This was awesome, can u do a Asian version ?
I can't believe you did this, I feel soooo special that you do all this work for us! You are amazing and my role model!!
Venetian Class.
Suddenly Queen of Hearts from Alice.
I thought it was like the people form the Capitol in the hunger games
same thought
I actually really love the 20s look! I have normal sized lips, but a small mouth in an era when big lips/mouths are in; I've tried the "Kylie Jenner type lips" in an attempt to blend in, but my mouth just isn't suited for it. Perhaps I'll try a 20s makeup look to suit my lips! Who knows, maybe I'll bring small mouths back in style XD
I have big lips and they get a bit fetishized I honestly think thin lips are extremely elegent and refined. I guess the grass is always greener on the other side lol
I think you should try out a 20's look, it's so pretty especially for thin lips and hey in 4 years it's the 20's again
That purple eye shadow is incredible. I simply must try it. Any advice on brands, my good people?
Oh my god, this is brilliant!! Amazingly interesting , and it must have taken SO much effort! Lisa, thank you!!
using captions for the silent movie Queens would be so much more immersive :)) but anyway, you rock that Uniball!
*unibrow
Uniball

I love the French Polish look. It was gorgeous, I have no idea why I like it so much. I have always loved that type of style with the hair and makeup.
lol people at my school make fun of me because I don't wear makeup. I really don't give a crap how I look in the morning as long as I'm clean.
I thought this was just gonna be another one of those "make up through the decades" videos or something but this was so much more interesting!!!
I now hate queen Victoria
Haha
Think that the makeup they wore till then was mostly toxic XD
Well during her time, it was all about modesty fashion-wise. Never show your ankles, never wear make-up, always wear a corset, etc. Pretty boring, but you've gotta admit the dresses from that time were beautiful, even if uncomfortable.
she was pretty sexist to be honest
+鹿晗 how....she's explaining the history..
Great video. I used to use red smarties as a lipstick when I was younger.
You are a genius... This was such an awesome vdo... Thank you for all your time and effort
Amazing! So detailed and lovely. Must have taken so much time and effort, loved this. Would love to see your interpretations and history of East Asian and South Asian looks! Would be so so interesting!
She looks like Natalie Portman
She looks like a combination of Portman and Winslet.
+NERDY NERD that is the most accurate thing i have ever read
+Jocelyn OML YES
I honestly thought that this was going to make fun of certain makeup in a bad way (like decora or shionuri makeup) but it was just fun and educating, and even ended that we could wear makeup however we want! I love this video!
ancient Egypt definitely because they were also very into shaving and perfume so I'd love to live in that era
Whitney Dahlin but it would be stupidly hot
They also used products that were toxic.
And there was slavery.
Whitney Dahlin ancient egypt wasnt just an era. it spanned MANY eras...
They shaved all hair to keep the bugs off them fleas etc.
Loved hearing you talk about history of makeup on Sunday Brunch this morning. Great start to my day! Very interesting xx
+shmeepea Thanks! Glad you managed to catch it X
The 80s really suited you, Lisa! This video is amazing. I'm putting your book on my wish list!
+Angel Morton Ha thanks, I did laugh every time i caught sight of myself in the mirror with that look but it certainly was fun to apply. Hope you enjoy the book! X
I do believe medieval women looked more natural than that. or didn't they?
naly202 ?
Which century and where were you referring too?
The middle ages, or medieval ages, spands a few centuries and is most commonly associated with Europian countries, like England and France but many others as well.
And then you also much ask, "Which social class?" Because the wealthy and royal would often use way more cosmetics than any of the poor folk could ever dream of owning.
"medieval ages"? That's not a phrase. Middle Ages - noun. Medieval - adjective. And in the middle ages, class really didn't have anything to do with it. It was outlawed by the church and what little they had was from natural sources - wine, flour on the face, and they had to be very sneaky about it.
The "middle ages" is a conventional name given to that period of time lasting from the fall of the last roman emperor Romulus Augustus (476 ad) to the fall of Constantinople or the discovery of the new world (both in the XV century). It is a very long period of time, roughly 1000 years. A "medieval woman" doesn't mean anything if you don't say where and when. I think the makeup showed in this video was common in France-Germany during the XIV century
@@rebeccawhite5128 'Medieval' can be an adjective or a noun. 'Medieval Ages' isn't used but 'Medieval Period' is. If you're going to condescend somebody at least make sure you're right ;)
